In the same way that Lyon have complained to the French Professional Football League about Marseilles attempts to derail that Gomis transfer to Newcastle United, maybe Newcastle will have to protest some of Laurent Blanc’s rather unprofessional and uncalled for comments today about Yohan Cabaye.
Yohan Cabaye – in action this pre-season
It’s not the first time Blanc has openly talked about wanting Yohan Cabaye at PSG, and he has even had the cheek to say that Tottenham are also interested in the 27 year-old Newcastle central midfielder.
In early July Alan Pardew complained bitterly about Blanc doing his transfer business in the media, but then unfortunately in the same interview Pardew went on to say that Newcastle were after Remy, Gomis and Bent this summer. 🙁
Here’s what Laurent Blanc has said about Cabaye today:
“He is a very good player, I have not changed my mind.”I read that Tottenham are also interested.” “I hope he will be at a big club come September.”
It’s always bad when a club does their transfer business in public, and unfortunately that is what Newcastle have done this summer, and we hope that will change in the future.
Blanc’s comments are nothing less than a clear attempt to unsettle Cabaye at Newcastle, not to mention his insinuation that Newcastle are not a big club, even though we finished 5th last year in the Premier League – the best football league in the world.
Newcastle have every right to complain about the new PSG manager trying to unsettle one of the club’s very best players.
But Yohan Cabaye will cost £25M, so if Tottenham or PSG have that kind of money to dish out for Yohan, then we suppose Mike Ashley would let him leave, but if that happens Newcastle must bring in a suitable replacement.
Cabaye was an excellent Graham Carr capture from Lille two years ago, and he cost only €5M (£4.25M at today’s exchange rate), and since joining Newcastle he has been capped 23 times by his country and become a regular in the French side.
Yohan has improved immensely while at Newcastle, and in two season he’s played 73 times for the club with 11 goals and 11 assist, and he has also been linked with a possible move to Manchester United this summer.
But we would still be very surprised if Cabaye leaves Newcastle this summer.
What do you think?

Comment #81I like the fact nufc runs at a profit now, especially with the fair play rules coming soon. Has anyone noticed how these rules have been ‘coming soon’ for ages but nothings been enforced?? I could be wrong. Have a feeling now the french teams have billionaire owners, platini and co might cool off on the idea of fair play. We’ll see though. I have a feeling it wont change anything anyway, it will just make smaller clubs be more desperate to sell their players to the bigger clubs for cheaper fees to balance the books. Win win for the big clubs (the important ones, with the most money 😉 )

When I say that things are shaping up well, I know there are a few areas that could be improved and I hope they will be. But I’ll wait to see how we’re playing in the PL before I judge style and so on.
I still think we’re in a better place than we’ve been for years. We do have 2 goalies good enough for the PL, but I’m not sure if 3rd choice will be Alnwick or we need to bring someone in.

Comment #83How much do you reckon it would have changed us for the better had we won the league in 96? Okay blackburn also have and look where they are now…but I firmly believe that we would have gone on to be challenging year in year out like Arsenal.

Comment #85When will people realise this?
A few signings and we’ll be flying.
A few signings and well be top eight.
No we wont. It doesn’t make a difference about our signings, because Pardew will more then likely play them out of position if at all and have the team on a constant negative tempo.
We’re continuing to defend 1 goal leads and then losing them, we’re also continuing to play the likes of Gutti and Tioté.
All the signings in the world wouldn’t change that.

Yes, the point I was trying to make was that the size of the stadium and it’s capacity doesn’t make the club / team that plays in it a ‘Big Club’.
It only means the club has a big stadium.
West Ham will have a bigger stadium than us at 54000 when they move into the Olympic Stadium but whether they get those numbers I doubt.

If we bring in a third choice keeper I’d prefer an experienced player at the top level, someone who is coming to the end of their career. Ship Alnwick out on loan, as we did with Krul and Forster. For me the crucial thing for backup keepers is experience. Coming on with 30minutes to go I’d be much more confident knowing the player has been on a pitch at the top level numerous times and won’t be fazed.
Plus an older keeper allows room in the squad for when Alnwick and Woodman are ready for first team football.

Comment #89For a club , who have never won nowt since 1969 it is amazing that we still fill that stadium with over 50,000 fans ,says enough.
We are a Massive club.
Do you think Man utd or even Barcelona ,would have that fan base after nearly 45 tears of nothing but heartbreak @ tears.
I think not !

Yeah, I’m all for an experienced keeper. I heard there’s a good lad at Hull we should think about…Hooper is it?
There must have been a reason we let Harps go though. Many clubs are in our situation and just hire an experienced goalie on an emergency loan if one of the first 2 get injured.

Comment #94It was stupid rule dreamed up by Platini because he was jealous of the English clubs success in Europe.
He’s been very quiet about it since Psg started spending all the money, and now Monaco are doing the same.

Newcastle supporters would say how loyal we are to support a club so much that has won so little.
Fans of other clubs would probably say of us that we are delusional.
Wiki “delusion is a belief held with strong conviction despite superior evidence to the contrary”. Says it all really.

Hooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwlllllllllllll.
There now preliminaries over. Anybody got any thoughts about the results of the SC Braga game and the City game.
Braga have recently drawn 2 -2 with Norwich and beaten West Ham 1 -0. They finished fourth in their league so look to be doing ok. My punt for Saturday is a draw 1-1.
City -game – if they get first day nerves we may get a result. If they click -we may get a walloping. Sticking my neck out whilst I want us to get a result I fear a 3- 0 lesson.

Yeah, I have mentioned that in the past. I really think there are more important areas to focus on then Keeper unless Krul’s injured shoulder is looking like it may not be a one off. We did the emergency loan twice in the past during the Prem years, Budgie came back, as did Tommy Wright.
As for Harper, I was under the impression that he chose to not stay as he wanted to end his career with more opportunities, rather than being third choice?
Martoon,
Yes, they are all up for sale, but matching there generous Anzhi pay packets may not be doable.

Julio Cesar is still at QPR. Available to buy, but at a club. He has also said that he will not take a pay cut, which is the only thing holding up a move to Fiorentina at this point in time.

Comment #103OH SHOLA, I have certainly taken that into account.
When you are a club that win trophies year after year like your Barcelonas @ Man utds you accumulate supporters from all over this country @ the world .
Just in the small world of Low Fell, there are numerous people who support Man utd , Liverpool even Chelsea @ Arsenal.
No doubt where you live ,you will know people.
They are called glory hunters.
Would these people be supporting these clubs if we were successful .
Again I think not ,they would be Black @ White .

I find it difficult to predict the Man City score as they will have a new manager and possibly a new style of play even with many (but not all) of the same players.

Thanks for that reply,it’s really just what I wanted to hear.I don’t normally go overboard about any player unless I’ve seen them live & never judge them by you tube BUT,I ‘ve sort of hung my hat on this guy & feel he’d be a great fit for us. Siem De Jong would’ve been my first pick but he’s staying at Ajax for now. Tadic is my choice now.

Comment #119I’d be very surprised if we’re seriously interested in another striker.
Is a midtable side managed by Pardew really appealing enough to have an £8m striker sat on the bench? Because Remy, Gomis and Cisse will not all be on the pitch – in fact given that Jonas has a guaranteed starting spot, we’d be lucky to see 2 of them simultaneously.
