Can Magpies Get Gomis On Board This Summer – Poll

9:28 am, Thursday, August 8th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 41 Comments

It certainly hasn’t been easy for Joe Kinnear this summer in his new job as Director of Football, and although it took a while Joe was successful in getting Loic Remy on a season long loan deal, and Joe deserves some credit for that.

bafetimbi gomis-07

Bafe Gomis – can we still get him?

And in his interview with Sky Sports on Sunday he said he wasn’t dragging his feet and then the news broke on Tuesday night that Marseilles has been illegally interfering with th deal and the Lyon President reported them to the French Professional Football League.

Newcastle have an excellent name in France and it will be even better now whatever happens with Gomis, because Newcastle seem to have acted impeccably in the transfer negotiations.

But it now looks difficult for Newcastle to get Gomis before September rolls around – due to the interference of Marseilles.

And we wonder if this is linked to the hold-up on the fees his agents want from Newcastle?

Maybe Marseilles are offering his agents bigger fees than Newcastle have, even though the French club have not agreed terms with Lyon for the striker, and are said to be unwilling to pay the €2M in add-on payments.

But that would at least explain the current situation.

Let is know what you think.

    Ohh those cheeky scoundrels!

Seriously though gomis and his agents would no this is a violation of league rules as do marseille
The lad has stated he wants to go to OM just move on

At the end of the day we still need a CF, no one wants to see another long summer saga of us desperately chasing one target

Get your list Joey lad time to move on to the next target

I also disagree when people say on paper this is the strongest squad we’ve had

For it to be the strongest that has to be all over the pitch

We have absolutely zero width in the team
We have no creativity in midfield either
We desperately need a LW, and a CAM because no matter how many people put benny there in there fantasy line up the lad has proved time and time again he can’t play there

    Your right it doesn’t
Mainly because an intelligent football fan or coach wouldn’t put remy at LW in a position he’s rarely played
RW yes but at LW were relying on yet another player to constantly cut in rather than make actual runs in to the area

  • 4 Jail for Ashley // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:35 AM

Felipe, although not a fan of Pardew I am not one of those to blindly slate him, you say we played some wonderful football that season we finished fifth , we did in a handful of games maybe you missed the utter garbage that resulted in narrow wins for the majority of that seasom.

  • 5 Sydney Toon // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:35 AM

I am a fan of Pardew, but I am realistic that last season was diabolical for so many reasons that you could not just pinpoint Pardew for blame. I hope we find a LW that can cut inside like Hatem and allow Sissokho or Cabaye to drop slightly back. Giving Cisse, Remy and hopefully Golis channels to run into. I would like Sinclair or Ince, even a cheeky loan bid for Andre Ayew from Marseille. Guti should be used as a utility. I am expecting a top 8 finish, I think we can as long as Pardew goes back to the successful play of the 11/12 season. Much depends on the form of Hatem, Cabaye and Cisse

  • 6 Markaccus // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:39 AM

    Oh look

Ed has changed the subject…… and people are still discussing pardew. How original.

On Gomis. Yes i think he will come here. OL really need the money and he is not likely to go elswhere now. I think he will be a good player for us.

  • 7 cyprus // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:39 AM

Your post at 13 is fair enough. And I do sense your frustration.
Though I’m not yet convinced by AP, I too am not sure if our disjointed performances are entirely AP’s fault or the players’. Maybe they ain’t the world beaters we think they are, but, damn it, they’re internationals! Not too long ago, hardly an NUFC player was away from training when internationals were played…
I for one am hoping for a good season.

You are right about that 5th position season. In so many games we were outplayed yet we won, even in those first ten. I (and AP!) were a bit bemused by it all 🙂

  • 8 Rotonda heights // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:40 AM

We should have walked away from this deal by now.
28, last year off contract etc etc.

    1 x top 6th place finish in 14 years
    1 x Johnson painter trophy
    1 x F.A cup runners up

If you’re happy with that I think that says more about you and lowered expectations than anything else.

Many good players who’ve played a lot of games and also journeyman players like Pardew don’t necessarily become good managers. Just look at Shearer for one.
Your argument is fatally flawed. Try some blue sky thinking and don’t just settle for dross.

    No? What a surprise.

Not half as fkn clever as you think you are eh

  • 9 daztoon // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:43 AM

Marveaux should be given the no.10 role. The lad has decent pace,a killer pass,a good shot on him.He is wasted out wide, doesn’t see enough of the ball. His all round game is better suited to that position as apposed to Benny

  • 10 gorgonzola ( former Pecorino former to gorgonzola) // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:44 AM

    I dont care either

  • 11 Felipe // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:45 AM

Jail, not all football is pretty and you can’t blame all the ugly stuff on Pardew. We are slowly building a squad after relegation and it’s definitely getting better. Not doing it last summer hurt us but I expect to see real progress this season. If come May there is none then I too will expect change.

  • 12 beautifulmind // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:47 AM

Remis wont be coming. If he had wanted to come he would have agreed the deal with Newcastle. it is him that is allowing this situation to happen as he wants to go to Marseille and is going along with their plan to get him. Whether that’s a matching bid or just sit tight til January when you can go for free is unknown but like I said if he had wanted to come to Newcastle then he would be here by now

    Rotonda heights // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:25 AM

What a ludicrous argument by whoever it was that said we the fans don’t know as much as Pardew because he’s a qualified coach. I’ve never heard anything so daft in all my life.

SAF never had a coaching qualification in his life, does that make Pardew better than him?

You aren’t comparing bloggers without a coaching badge to SBR without a coaching badge are you?

Because if you are to quote your own words “I’ve never heard anything so daft in all my life.”

  • 14 beautifulmind // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:49 AM

last post was about Gomis and not Remis lol

  • 15 Sydney Toon // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:49 AM

I like Gomis, I think he will be more Demba Ba than a target man, when he is on, he is almost unstoppable. He is powerful and strong, great touch and will give us options, I like the fact we have Remy and Cisse, Remy is a great goal scorer and Cisse is a poacher. Add Gomis with his power and strength and Pards can change the game much better than last season. Add a packet winger like Hatem in the left, Marveux, Anita, Taylor on the bench and we have strong options we didn’t have last season. Season before, we had a fit squad regular and good squad players like Guthrie playing for their futures. I think we can expect 2-3 more players to come in. Yes a bit longer than we wanted but better to get the players we drastically need first then sort out rest. Still 3 weeks to go of the window, plenty can still happen.

  • 16 Tommyy // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:49 AM

Not fussed. He’s average and we’re a poor side. All I want now is new management or at the very least proper, renowned coaches.

  • 17 Markaccus // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:49 AM

Who the hell is ‘Remis’ ???? 😀

  • 18 Jail for Ashley // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:51 AM

I agree with that, although I still think that the squad needs more investment, Shola, Obertan and Gosling need getting rid of BUT replaced with better players, , never the less with the squad we have anything less than 12th is inexcusable.

  • 19 cyprus // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:51 AM

Daztoon, I was nodding agreement till I realised you meant for HBA to be replaced! HBA is our most talented player, our Ronaldo if you will. Seriously, if Ronaldo saw some of those goals he would be fittingly envious.

The problem with Marveaux is that he hasn’t been consistent but then again he was never given a run. The problem with HBA is, I dread to say, ‘is this dude a Dyer’

  • 20 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:52 AM

    NUFC just walk away!

…if what Ed reported in the last thread then Gomis is just as much to blame for the problem. Is he really worth it?

  • 21 joeinthecheapseats // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:52 AM

If Ashley sacked Pardew it would be like everything else he does
There’s no way he would pay the going rate for a top coach
He would bring in either another manager with a mediocre record or gamble on an untested coach.
Swansea do well as they play with attacking wingers were we don’t have any to speak about but again will Ashley buy any
Probably should have kept Routledge and never bought Obertan
Then we would have only needed a left winger to supply service for Cisse and Remy.
Perhaps we should go back to a conventional 4/4/2 at home with wingers and 4/5/1 away from home to try and pinch some points

  • 22 beautifulmind // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:53 AM

markuus – don’t know but he might be worth a look 🙂

  • 23 Lilongwe Geordie // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:54 AM

Can we sign him? Of course we can. Will we is a completely different question. Do I care if we do or don’t? Not particularly, he isn’t worth all this hassle, and I would prefer someone else.

  • 24 joeinthecheapseats // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:54 AM

The kids he tried on the left wing Ferguson and Ameobi flattered to deceive before people say nobody else was given a chance and Marveaux needs to play as an attacking central midfielder

  • 25 jeff // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:56 AM

    what a stupid poll

  • 26 clinath@ed // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:56 AM

    Remis Dousos….oversized greek stopper.

  • 27 Jail for Ashley // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:57 AM

    Sydney Toon,
A lot can still happen, Man U could realise that they’re not getting Fabregas and whack a 20M bid in for Cabaye in which I think Mashley would take their hands off.

  • 28 geordie@bergen_norway // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:57 AM

Based on the YouTube-stuff I’ve seen from this lad, he looks a class act. However, he fits best in a 4-4-2 formation. In a 4-3-3/4-5-1 i assume it’s either him or Papiss in the ST-role, and Remy/Gouffran/HBA/Marv on the flanks.
Still hope wi sign him as we only have Papiss and Shola to play ST. Papiss needs more competition to get back in early 2012-shape.

  • 29 nut meg // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:57 AM

For all you people who want a LW to be brought in,check this guy out. Before anybody starts yelling,I’v only seen him on you tube but ,check out his stats on transfer market, they are IMHO very impressive & he’s valued on TM @ 10m euro. I’ve already asked a couple of times if anyone has seen him play live but no one responded so far.He can play on either wing or as a AMF scores goals & creates chances for fun. Take a look. He’s just what we need IMHO.

  • 30 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:58 AM

The only thing I really fear is that if it’s not Gomis then it will be Bent 🙁 how’s that for excitement?

  • 31 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 8, 2013 at 9:59 AM

it worked with demba lw and cisse through the middle so why not remy?

Because Demba Ba has and had regularly played LW throughout his career, and is left footed
Remy hasn’t and is right footed

    2 completely different players

  • 32 jackostoon // Aug 8, 2013 at 10:01 AM

Morning people, how the devil are we,
Noticed that the sky sports advert for the new season is playing the same music as the Remy video on you tube, not sure which video, someone posted it when he signed, obviously a sign from the gods we are to have a canny season, I wish.

  • 33 keeganjr // Aug 8, 2013 at 10:01 AM

Im not the biggest fan of pardew and co. But can we just try to support the team and not the regime style.. Just support the team or fcuk of.. very tired of all the negativity.. let the rollercoaster ride begin

  • 34 Lilongwe Geordie // Aug 8, 2013 at 10:01 AM

Please, Ronaldo envious of HBA?? HBA has great ability, but as an actual footballer, where he has to engage his brain to understand the best thing to do he is distinctly average most of the time.

Few assists, fewer goals, regularly loses the ball. Talented, but until he actually learns how to use it, he will never be anything more than a decent player.

For those of you who would like to discomfort MA.

  • 38 daztoon // Aug 8, 2013 at 10:05 AM

For me Marveaux is more suited to that position and is more of a team player.Likes to receive the ball but will lay it off quick too, more a give a go type.Benny for me is better suited as a wide man, likes to beat his man and looks far better when he’s running at a player and cutting in or crossing

  • 39 Consett Mag // Aug 8, 2013 at 10:15 AM

We need to walk away from this Gomis bloke. Talent is minimised by lack of desire.

  • 40 nufc 11 // Aug 8, 2013 at 12:37 PM

Id leave him where he is Ba on loan or Niang and bid 10-12 million for Shawcross and another loan deal for Sinclair.

  • 41 The next Mike Williamson // Aug 8, 2013 at 1:20 PM

We seem to be forgetting Gomis is the french Heskey. Ameobi would hit at least 15-20 in Ligue 1. Look at Salaman Kalou and Aliedere, they’re both cack and banging them in. Let’s not forget Gameiro & Erdinc
