Debuchy And Sissoko In French Squad – Cabaye Left Out

2:48 pm, Thursday, August 8th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 91 Comments

For the friendly in Belgium next Wednesday the French squad has just been announced and both Mathieu Debuchy and Moussa Sissoko of Newcastle make the 23 man squad, but surprisingly Yohan Cabaye has been left out.

yohan cabaye captain

Yohan Cabaye – Newcastle midfielder not in French squad

French manager Didier Deschamps has named this list of 23 players:

Goalkeepers: Hugo Lloris (Tottenham), Steve Mandanda (Marseille), Mickael Landreau (Bastia)
Defenders: Mathieu Debuchy (Newcastle), Eric Abidal (Monaco) Eliaquim Mangala (FC Porto), Adil Rami (Valencia), Gael Clichy (Manchester City), Patrice Evra (Manchester United, Bacary Sagna and Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal)
Midfield: Josuha Guilavogui (Saint-Etienne), Geoffrey Kondogbia (Sevilla), Rio Mavuba (Lille), E. Capua (Toulouse), Moussa Sissoko (Newcastle), Clement Grenier (Lyon).
Forwards: Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich), Mathieu Valbuena (Marseille), Dimitri Payet (Marseille), Samir Nasri (Manchester Cit) Karim Benzema (Real Madrid), Olivier Giroud (Arsenal)

L’Equipe are reporting that PSG center-back Mamadou Sakho, who would be great at Newcastle, is a major player missing from the list, as well as Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa of Newcastle, but Cabaye is not mentioned(?).

These Internationals are taking place just three days before the Premier League season starts a week on Saturday, and it seems a terrible time to hold the rather meaningless games which are only friendlies.

It’s not that surprising Ed he had a sh1te season and judging by the pre season match reports he’s been well off the pace pre season

  • 4 Transfer Sage // Aug 8, 2013 at 2:53 PM

does this mean the france squad is picked on form and not name/reputation?

if only england did this sort of thing

Cabaye is suspended for France’s next qualifier….the ONLY reason he has been left out.

when mapou starts playing regular prem footy he will be straight in there also.

    Mmmm where is Bigi??

  • 17 Ibizatoon // Aug 8, 2013 at 3:01 PM

Beattie…Didn’t he feature with the England under (insert number here) during the summer? Seem to remember he was given more time off….does seem late mind.

    Alien abduction seem far fetched?

  • 18 Beattie25 // Aug 8, 2013 at 3:02 PM

Haidara is starting light training today with Remy and Amalfitano (according to NUFC.co.uk).

Bigi must actually be in in TADS’s basement.

  • 19 Tinman // Aug 8, 2013 at 3:02 PM

Beattie25, he was training with the first team. He’s in one of the pics in this slideshow :)

  • 20 Tinman // Aug 8, 2013 at 3:04 PM

Guys, Beattie was with England u20s, never really got a game though. Was given some time off for the other games and is now back in training.

In that slideshow you can also see Haidara training with Remy and Amalfitano.

  • 21 Tinman // Aug 8, 2013 at 3:05 PM

Just highlight the whole of that link to get it to work!

  • 22 Ibizatoon // Aug 8, 2013 at 3:06 PM

Tads…Re that link about Cabaye. Reading between the lines, if we he can touch balls over 100 times a day he’s happy if not he’s sad.

Come on then you local lads, do your part. Yo wants your balls.

“I don’t know how France sees them now to
be honest, but last week I saw my old team-
mates and a few players told me: ‘Can you
speak to the manager for me?’

an im sure it was debuchy who askd him to speak to pardew about him

  • 24 Ibizatoon // Aug 8, 2013 at 3:08 PM

That shouldn’t have read “we he”, seems a little camp and I’m all about being butch, as you’re all probably aware….

    Toodles x

  • 25 Tinman // Aug 8, 2013 at 3:08 PM

Hahahahaahaaa just realised I said Beattie was with u20s instead of Bigi. Classic

  • 26 JackButler // Aug 8, 2013 at 3:11 PM

Biggi and Haidara both went to visit our new signing Barnetta they were both seen entering the hotel room and nothing has been heard off either of them sinse

  • 27 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 8, 2013 at 3:12 PM

    Beattie
Of course he is, it’s not easy to get out of there either, ask Debuchy he’d of been here last summer otherwise

  • 28 Tinman // Aug 8, 2013 at 3:14 PM

Theres a link which doesnt need copied and pasted.

  • 33 Toon-Prodigy // Aug 8, 2013 at 3:26 PM

What is that Blanc playing at? What a disgrace. Lowlife.

I’v expected Cabaye to be away all window so I wouldn’t be to disheartened if he left to be honest.

My worry is will he be replaced.

  • 34 ilovetoon8788 // Aug 8, 2013 at 3:26 PM

Pardew can’t bring the best out of Cabaye. As far as i’m concerned thats pretty much a fact.

He would turn world class in Manchester United or Arsenal team.

  • 36 big papa // Aug 8, 2013 at 3:38 PM

TOON P,i think the statement is wrong mate, its Ryder putting the statement out in his useless way to cause bother hes a arsehole, the statement made is he hopes cabayes is “stll”at a big club, big diff in my book like, read as you may

  • 37 Mister Tuff // Aug 8, 2013 at 3:47 PM

timan @30 – yes indeed -when Sissoko first came apparently the staff could not believe how fit he was. When you see the facilities these guys have -they really are lucky people.

  • 38 Toon-Prodigy // Aug 8, 2013 at 3:51 PM

    Big Papa,

Ahh, I see what you mean, possibly. Maybe Blanc will come out and clarify exactly what he means. I’d sure be interested to know.

From what I have read about him in the past he comes across as a bit of a t1t to be honest. Has a habit of thinking he is up on a pedestal and shows a lack of respect.

  • 39 GeordieoftheSouth // Aug 8, 2013 at 3:58 PM

I have to say I have never been bowled over by Cabaye, don’t get me wrong he is a good player and has scored some important goals however, noway near as good as some of the Toon fans go on about him.

But the more we big him up, then more money we will get for him I guess…then we can sign a similar kind of player…Danny Guthrie

  • 40 lesh // Aug 8, 2013 at 3:58 PM

Well just as well Cabaye’s suspended for the French game otherwise he’d be thinking he needs to be at a ‘big club’ like PSG to get a regular game for his country.

No doubt Joe’ll anticipate that and get a replacement in before he goes. Like what we did before Ba unexpectedly left!

  • 41 Graeme // Aug 8, 2013 at 4:00 PM

Surely NOT having our “Purples” playing meaningless friendlies, the week before our season starts, has to be a good thing!!!

With our luck, Cabaye would come back crocked and if it happens to our No1 RB its not in our best interests whatsoever!!

  • 42 JackButler // Aug 8, 2013 at 4:04 PM

Again Mr. Blanc has nice words to say about NUFC, anyone who wanted this man as our manager obviously knows nothing of how he views us

  • 43 big papa // Aug 8, 2013 at 4:06 PM

TOON P aye your right mate, but one thing he didnt say was toon are not a big club that was arsehole ryders take on it

  • 44 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Aug 8, 2013 at 4:07 PM

This is the d**k Laurent Blanc putting pressure on Cabaye to leave.

    He has been saying

‘he’s still keen on luring Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye to Paris Saint Germain, but revealed Tottenham are also in the hunt for the French international’.

I would of thought that it was against the rules for International managers to get involved in which club a player should play for

  • 45 Toon-Prodigy // Aug 8, 2013 at 4:12 PM

    Big Papa,

Snidey dig if he meant it that way. Could be a journo’s twist though your right mate.

The bloke needs a dressing down if the case.

Pardew can get Cabaye playing also, which is mentioned by a poster above. Injuries, consistency, and depression seen him under par last season.

The season before he was accustomed well into the league. Credit where it’s due.

He covered the most miles on the pitch in the Premiership the season before last.

  • 46 Pokat // Aug 8, 2013 at 4:13 PM

@37 – didn’t take long for the NUFC fitness regime to tone that down though judging by the last 6 games of last season. I think our program of an hour on the wii fit once a week maybe a little light.

    For
God’s sake! Read the actual quotes from Blanc!

    He’s actually very respectful!

“Newcastle, Tottenham, or Paris — I hope that he’ll still be at a big club in September”

  • 51 Ibizatoon // Aug 8, 2013 at 4:21 PM

Jamsha…Basically you want to get Bent?

Have to say lads and lasses, whether you want him or not this Bent transfer has been mildly amusing, to me atleast

  • 52 surreytoon // Aug 8, 2013 at 4:21 PM

Cabaye was often more of a liability than Tiote last season, the number of reckless challenges you could see them coming. We never dominated anyone in midfield. I understand he was depressed but I can’t help wondering if we would be better rid…

  • 53 Ibizatoon // Aug 8, 2013 at 4:22 PM

Meaulusteen, is getting released by Anzi, get in there JK and sign Proper coach, that would be a terrific signing for us, not a cat in hells chance is there, our lot need to freshen their ideas up considerably.

  • 55 JackButler // Aug 8, 2013 at 4:26 PM

    gonufc

He’s already pi**ed NUFC off earlier in the year by saying that he want’s Cabaye at PSG. If he wants him either put a bid in for the lad or keep his mouth shut as for mentioning that he believe’s that Spurs are also interested in the lad what is he trying to achieve?

His aim is to unsettle the player in the hope of signing him.

Personally if we receive a big offer for him 20 million plus, I’d take it and move on

  • 56 big papa // Aug 8, 2013 at 4:28 PM

  • 57 Jackel001 // Aug 8, 2013 at 4:29 PM

According to the twitter account ” looneytoon” which is the only account that I bother to look at, they say that talks with gomis reps went terrible and the deal looks to be dead. And attention will be 100% on bent. Thoughts?

  • 58 JackButler // Aug 8, 2013 at 4:31 PM

Personally don’t want Bent, we now have Remy so would much prefer us to look at a younger player or even look at Shane Long who only has a year left on his deal at West Brom.

Bent is well past his best and has lost that yard of pace

  • 59 JAMSHA // Aug 8, 2013 at 4:32 PM

  • 60 DevonToon // Aug 8, 2013 at 4:33 PM

Gonufc, indeed.. blanc states we are a big club… cabaye will be a starter for france where ever he plays, and if he does get a big move he will magically become the “one of the best cm in the world”. Cabaye is a top player, imo underrated, ablnd used really badly by pardew

  • 61 John Tudor // Aug 8, 2013 at 4:33 PM

  • 62 Jackel001 // Aug 8, 2013 at 4:33 PM

“Newcastle, Tottenham or Paris – I hope he will still be at a big club in September.

Rotonda… :-) Thought someone might bite…you are right though, just a silly throw away comment. Truth is, he is a good manager, from the way the comment was reported it came across as he deemed us a small club, that no longer appears to be the case…therefore…Blanc in?
