Elliot, Yanga-Mbiwa And Shola Ameobi Start Against SC Braga

5:04 pm, Saturday, August 10th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 387 Comments

braganufc

Alan Pardew has named a changed starting eleven from the one that started  last game on Tuesday night at Ibrox, and Rob Elliot, Mapou Yanga-Mabiwa and in-form Shola Ameobi are all in the starting line-up.

The Newcastle manager has said that the team needs to show more threat up front, and Pardew starts a 4-4-2 formation tonight with Shola and Papiss Cisse the two men up front.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa gets another chance to show he should start alongside Fabricio Coloccini in nine days time, when Newcastle start the season at Manchester City, who were rather easily beaten 3-1 by an impressive looking Arsenal in Helsinki today.

There are ten substitutes on the bench for Newcastle, and expect Alan Pardew to give a game to as many of the subs as he can.

As expected new boy Loic Remy is not on the bench, although he could be a sub in nine days time,  if he can get fit enough by that time.

This is the final pre-season game for Newcastle, and we need to see a good display against a very decent Braga side, with the lads looking a lot more dangerous up front than we did at Ibrox against Rangers in the 1-1 draw on Tuesday night.

Teams:

Newcastle United (4-4-2): Rob Elliot; Mathieu Debuchy, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Davide Santon; Hatem Ben Arfa, Cheick Tiote, Moussa Sissoko, Jonas Gutierrez; Shola Ameobi, Papiss Cisse
Substitutes: Tim Krul, Paul Dummett, Steven Taylor, Yohan Cabaye, Vurnon Anita, Dan Gosling, Sylvain Marveaux, Gabriel Obertan, Sammy Ameobi, Yoan Gouffran

Braga (4-4-2): Eduardo; Baiano, Paulo Vinicius, Aderlan Santos, Joaozinho; Alan (c), Luiz Carlos, Ruben Micael, Mauro; Edinho, Felipe Pardo
Substitutes: Cristiano, Nuno Andre Coelho, Joao Pedro, Pedro Santos, Helder Barbosa, Luis Silva, Rafa, Florent Hanin, Yazalde, Custodio, Salvador Agra

Referee: Lee Mason

Was it Pardew who said he expected to have his strongest possible team out today??

I certainly wouldn’t be playing Bambi and Jonas – we all know exactly what the cant do. Why not play Vukic – he doesnt even make the bench; Gosling or Marvy before Jonas.

So much for driving the team forward Mr P!!!

To be fair Jonas was one our better players against Rangers and Ameobi has been scoring so IMO they’ve probably just about justified a starting place. That said he’d foolish if he doesn’t change it around at half time.

  • 13 Yohan Kebab // Aug 10, 2013 at 5:12 PM

anyone a tad disappointed we couldnt get PEA oover the line ;)

in all seriousness fair play, he got a great offer in dortmund

Well other than Gomis or Remy in place of Shola this is the team that will be starting against City. Total joke, Marveaux should just leave now while he has time. Pardew doesn’t know talent when he sees it.

  • 20 Sir Braveheart // Aug 10, 2013 at 5:16 PM

Jonas played well at Rangers. Sholas scored 4 in 4. They deserve to start Id say. Should we play the better rated players who are playing badly or play the players who are playing well?

    TOTAL JOKE!

Jonas and shola are not gooe enough when will people realise this?

  • 25 Jarra // Aug 10, 2013 at 5:20 PM

Just been informed it is Sir Bobby Robson Day today probably the last gent to earn respect in football.
My lasting memory of Sir Bobby Robson was as he sat in his wheel chair on the pitch at St James Park four days from his death prior to the charity match England V Germany. The song Nella fantasia was sung and he looked around raised his right fist and shook it like the proud man he was. That fist clenched just made my eyes well up. Sir rest in peace and may our memories of you never fade.

  • 26 Jamiemac // Aug 10, 2013 at 5:21 PM

There’s no way people can prove Anita is better than Tiote – certainly from his performances for us. Pardew will be going from what he sees in training. Quit ya crying

  • 27 Indian Magpie // Aug 10, 2013 at 5:22 PM

You can all be happy or satisfied that Shola, Jonas and Tiote starting

    But,
    I will not be.

Pardew is a disgrace to the word Manager

  • 28 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 10, 2013 at 5:22 PM

Not liking the look of this transfer window either and it is starting to look very familiar to last year with only one player coming in. How many have we let go again ?

I know there is still time but I am not confident anyone else will come in. God forbid Remy gets locked up :( .

Back to the game, Howay the lads ! ;)

  • 29 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 10, 2013 at 5:23 PM

Watching this Liverpool Celtic game, and although they are 1-0 down, Liverpool are looking very sharp, Rogers has them playing some very good stuff, albeit it is just pre-season.

Why are we so sluggish in pre-season?

  • 30 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 10, 2013 at 5:23 PM

    Huh
Perhaps not the team pardew was saying he would start a couple of days back, and certainly doesn’t seem set to “give an attacking display” sir bobby would be proud of as promised but lets hope for a big display from the lads!

On ameobi starting, lads c’mon he’s a geordie, it’s a day to respect and remember sir bobby, there is no way in hell you could keep shola off the pitch today

  • 33 Mister Tuff // Aug 10, 2013 at 5:24 PM

sazzer/yohan kebab re PEA – I see somebody earlier posted he had a hat trick today. In reality there was no way he was going to sign for anybody in January as he said he wanted to finish the season at ASSE.
Maybe if we had strengthened after our 5th place finish or even did better then -who knows where he would have went to. Whilst there was some hope -looking back now our chances of getting him were microscopic. I think there were a few on here who did not like him — tools to a man I wish i could be bothered to check back to out the ones who do not know a good footballer from a duffer.

  • 34 aidytoon9 // Aug 10, 2013 at 5:25 PM

Marv doesn’t get a chance to show what he is capable of, it’s got nowt to do with how good they are in training. He will pick who he wants regardless.

  • 38 lesh // Aug 10, 2013 at 5:28 PM

    aidytoon9

Instead of slamming Shola’s presence in the starting line up, ask yourself how many strikers are available for selection.

Yup, you got it and the third one’s on the bench. Such is the strength we’ve got in that department.

It’s really up to Mr Kinnear to get that sorted, smartish!

  • 39 aidytoon9 // Aug 10, 2013 at 5:29 PM

    Goofy oops again

  • 41 Charlietoon // Aug 10, 2013 at 5:30 PM

I dont get it. I know it’s Shola and we should still sell him but so many people on here whinge about Pards only picking his favourites regardless of form. They then turn and biatch about him starting with Jonas and Shola when Shola is bang on form and from all accounts Jonas was our best player in our last match. So do they deserve to start or not? Could it be possible he wants a few lads in the shop window before the start of the season?

  • 42 lesh // Aug 10, 2013 at 5:31 PM

    toonarmydownsouth

Personally I think it’s fitting that Shola starts – Sir Bobby thought the world of him and vice versa.

  • 43 jonobbad // Aug 10, 2013 at 5:32 PM

Shola does well most pre seasons. Then does sweet fa in the premier league. Surely 13 seasons is enough to convine people he is utter tosh.
    Get rid.

  • 44 Mister Tuff // Aug 10, 2013 at 5:32 PM

Whilst Percy does not have much choice for forwards -giving Shola a game -I fail to see the logic. It is not going to work. After 20 mins he’ll start giving free kicks away. It did not work last season and will not work now.
Elliot -not convinced by him – -nervy gives me the jitters.
Mr. T. – to the doubters do not ball watch -watch his off the ball running/availability.
My shout the other day was 2-2 -still sticking by that.

  • 45 aidytoon9 // Aug 10, 2013 at 5:34 PM

    Lesh

I love sir bobby but your point that its fitting that shola should start I disagree with, it’s the last game of preseason man.

    Exactly mate

Plus he’s been the only lad scoring in pre season so has earned his start!

  • 56 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 10, 2013 at 5:40 PM

Ameobi is 27 but this was his first hat-trick and the realisation of a dream inspired by Tino Asprilla’s hat-trick against Barcelona. He dedicated it to Sir Bobby, who gave him his Newcastle debut.

Rejuvenated: Ameobi has not always enjoyed a loving relationship with Newcastle supporters

‘I believe he was looking down and smiling on me,’ Ameobi said.
‘He brought me through and if it wasn’t for him I would not be in this position. He was a true friend and great mentor.
‘Even after he left I had many conversations with him and he would ask, ‘What are they doing to my club?’
That’s how much it meant to him. The best way we can remember him is by getting back to the heights he took us to. They were great times.’

  • 57 aidytoon9 // Aug 10, 2013 at 5:40 PM

    Lesh

I think your the one that needs to do that
I am not being critical shola is not good enough and has never been.
Should saylor start then because bobby liked him?

  • 58 Sir Braveheart // Aug 10, 2013 at 5:40 PM

Answer me this, if it was Remy or Gouffran who’d scored 4 in 4 and played as decently as Shola has what would you all be saying?

Sholas past performances dont warrant a starting spot, hence the reason we have Cisse Remy and looking for Gomis, but no one can say he hasnt done a decent job in pre season.

  • 59 lesh // Aug 10, 2013 at 5:41 PM

    welshgeordie9.

Remy not playing for Lyon won’t make a bit of difference!

It’s not the 3rd kit, nor is it especially for SBR. It is the ‘home kit for members’. Last year season-ticket holders and members could buy the home shirt with the badge in gold. This half black/half white shirt is this seasons version.

Average boring first half and Braga looked the better team by a hair.

    All to familiar.

That 5th finish the season before the last was our chance. This is our best team in years but if we have another bad season we’re going to loose our top players, Pardew will be fired and we’re back to square one….

    I’m really worried.

  • 181 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:50 PM

Debuchy really isn’t all that is he!! We should have got Corchia.

    Jonas surprisingly good today.

442 really doesn’t work. Marveaux for Shola would change the whole dynamics of the game.

  • 183 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:51 PM

    Jamie

I suppose the way the team is set up or the tactics we play has nothing to do with Pardew either? Ignorance is bliss as they say.

  • 184 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:51 PM

Its same old same old. Sit back at home with the odd decent break forward, no creativity (despite out top assist maker on the bench no less) and only one decent effort on target.

Learned from his mistakes ? , No chance.

  • 185 Jamiemac // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:51 PM

Sorry for the repeat post, thought first one was deleted.

BPC – Nope not at all, I very much believe the manager only plays a very small part. Ultimately it’s the players that weren’t good enough last season not Pardew. I can guarantee you Pardew doesn’t tell our players to stand still or play more long balls than stoke. He sets the ‘formation’ formations are very fluid. It’s down to the players to use that formation to their strengths

  • 186 Toon1978 // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:52 PM

No matter how bad Jonas is, he always seems to get a game. On a positive note, Mbiwa and Collo look good at CB. Apart from that, we have NOTHING going for us. We lack width, we lack any ideas and we lack in the final third yet still the club have not addressed this with only one loan signing. Boring and poor Football. Even the foreign commentators are bored hahahaha :)

  • 187 Beattie25 // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:53 PM

Here we go Debuchy is shit, Simmo was better, blah blah blah.

Maybe if we didn’t invite too much pressure on the back 4 we could avoid rash challenges in the box and let Debuchy do what he is best at, running from full back to elevate pressure and begin counter attacks.

  • 188 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:53 PM

I might sound like a miserable bas*ard but I want the team to do well that is all.

  • 189 89Norcal // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:53 PM

Jonas’ standard is so incredibly low, that all he has to do is make 1 decent run or pass or score every 20 games and he’s a shoe in.

  • 190 Spuggy // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:53 PM

We don’t have enough technical players on the pitch who can pass and control a ball in close quarters and create a moment.

Cabaye and Marv for Shola and Jonas 2nd half please, with Anita for Tiote in the final 20 mins.

  • 191 Indian Magpie // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:53 PM

  • 193 Spuggy // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:55 PM

Every time we play 442 we look so predictable because we have no width or pacey wingers.

Back to 4231 or 433. 442 is dead unless you have top class wingers.

  • 194 Toon1978 // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:56 PM

It’s beggers belief that Marveaux cannot get on the pitch for Jonas. He is twice the player of Jonas but Pards clearly has his favourites. He most be slipping Pards the finger. Shake my head in disbelief. Pards will take HBA off and put Marv on i bet ya.

  • 195 Black and White with an army lol // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:56 PM

sissoko as AMC any day of the week

  • 196 Rowan Milsted // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:56 PM

    Disappointing formation and starting 11.

I think we started brightly but faded after about 8 mins.

I’m reading a lot more into this one as it’s the last pre-season game and as such should be a reflection of the style of football we intend to play. It smacks of last season’s drudgery and if we play like this for the next 38 league games we’ll finish about where we did last time.

I’m not giving up hope and I’m not normally this negative but that was utter tosh.

Oh, and for the record, whilst Debuchy can be a bit rash that Braga bloke is a cheating, diving, b0ll0ckless little fairy. I hope someone shows him what a genuinely sore leg feels like.

  • 197 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:56 PM

If we go through an entire season without seeing a midfield 3 of Cabaye, Sissoko and Anita, I will scream.

Surely it doesn’t take a genius to realise that this combination gives us the perfect balance of flair and strength to win most midfield battles as well as keeping the ball on the deck.

  • 198 aidytoon9 // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:56 PM

Is game will be easy compared to what city will bring.

When will pards ever learn and when will some fans stop being deluded thinking playing jonas, shola, tiote is ok when marv, Anita, goofy are sat on bench.

  • 199 Toon1978 // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:56 PM

    Must admit…Santon looks well good.

  • 200 Beattie25 // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:56 PM

Debuchy and Santon are better offensively so why play defensive football.

It’s so retarded. Im sure Pards has no say in what players we sign.

Pardew was saying he would play an exciting brand of football to honour Robson. This performance offends his memory, as do most performances under Alan.

  • 201 Rowan Milsted // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:57 PM

  • 202 89Norcal // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:57 PM

    Spuggy
We have plenty of width with the 442. We have so much width that Jonas is receiving the ball out of play and turning over possession.

Hatem must be shaking his head. We are barely attacking on the right side either.

  • 203 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:57 PM

  • 204 Do the shaka hislop // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:57 PM

To be fair to jonas hes working his socks off and its the only place the crosses are coming from. Tiote doesnt look like he can pass a drink let alone a ball, ben arfa looks a mile off the pace… I said it earlier

If we start with this setup and this tempo at city theyll mince us.

  • 205 Spuggy // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:58 PM

Why isn’t Cabaye playing? Is he going?

  • 206 Beattie25 // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:58 PM

We’ve got players all suited to 4-3-3, a formation most have played for years at their former clubs.

They struggle in a 4-4-2 and 4-3-2-1 as the system is alien to them.

    What does Pardew do?

  • 207 89Norcal // Aug 10, 2013 at 6:59 PM

    Toon1978
I was the first to say that Remy will be an excellent backup for Jonas :)

1 of Pardew’s biggest failings must be he’s too nice to the players. I see him after games and he’s acting like Guti’s best friend, no wonder he doesn’t want to drop him!

Especially with the signing of Remy who would flourish as a left sided forward, with HBA on the right it would all point to a 4-3-3 wouldn’t it?

  • 214 norwichmag // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:00 PM

I’ve been to watch Norwich in friendlies this week to check out some of the players we could/should have signed…

Hooper – Not convinced, supposed to be a poacher but spends more time coming deep for the ball – lot to do with service, fell over several times and looked a bit on the hefty side, Grant Holt mark 2. Don’t think he’ll cut it in the prem to be honest.

Van Wolfswinkel – Not understanding the hype, seen nothing from him in 2 games, quite lightweight, missed a couple of sitters and no urgency to shoot or run at goal. Positional sense didn’t look great either. Not convinced either.

Redmond – Real raw talent, fast, determined and skilful. Not afraid to shoot and with the right direction (which Hughton may give him) he’ll come good. Really feel we missed an ideal signing there, played on both wings in friendlies, reminded me of Sterling for the bindippers.

Fer – What can I say, we’ve f****d up big time, looked class, great passing range, composed on the ball, played all across the midfield and all the talk of a DM, Tiote type player is way off the mark. Missed out on a ready made prem player there.

All in all it was painful watching the players I thought we’d snap up. Abeid also looked poor for Panathinaikos today, poor temperament and attitude. Took corners though, infinitely better than Cabs.

M’biwa looked pretty solid, other than him I’ve not been overly impressed by anyone.

  • 222 Spuggy // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:01 PM

I think we’ll see 3-4 changes second half. Pardews philosophy to give everyone a game.

For me we need to nail down the starting 11 now – I’d like to see Anita, Marv, Cabaye and Goofy 2nd half.

  • 223 Do the shaka hislop // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:02 PM

  • 225 Rowan Milsted // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:03 PM

Ah please, stop the repetitive ‘Ameobi-donkey-blah-blah.’ The most boring posts on the whole blog. Both strikers have barely touched it as there’s been no service as we’ve been so poor so far.

    Sir Braveheart

Probably Jonas or one of the CBs. HBA has shown flashes but has hardly had the ball for the last 20 minutes.

Is Cazorla too lightweight for the Prem? Or Oscar? Or Mata? Kagawa?

Too much emphasis on physicality, not enough on technical ability. It’s why the England national team is sh!te.

    oh nvm

  • 310 bills-son // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:24 PM

    So,

We’ve got full backs who can’t defend, no midfielder who can control the game, one winger (Guti) who works hard but no end result and another winger (HBA) who doesn’t work hard and very occasionally produces an end result + no pace through the middle up front.

Nowt’s changed other than Remy to come into the team.

I’ve said it since the end of last season – this squad has some good players but is seriously lacking as an all round top 8 Prem squad. Changing Pardew might make some difference but a big change will only come by addressing the glaring weaknesses that we have.

We desperately need a strong dominant CD, a full back who can defend, a powerhouse CM who can run with the ball and pass it, a winger who will track back and CF with height, power and the ability to hold the ball up.

Without those players we’ll struggle to finish top ten imo.

Fair play to you, you’ve always been consistent in your criticism but I feel some people on here will never ever praise a performance as long as Pardew is manager.

For the record I’m not a Pardew lover. I’ve stated many times I’m willing to give him until December 31st and if there’s no progression this season then it is definitely time to go.

seem much more fluid since shola went off and anita and marv came on. think it’s all lost on pardew though

  • 359 Scouse_geordie // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:49 PM

yang is so good going forward

  • 360 89Norcal // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:51 PM

    Colo scored, Krul.

    Off a corner! :)

  • 361 Thump // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:51 PM

We saw that shirt last season… buggered if I know where it fits in, mind.

  • 362 Yohan Kebab // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:52 PM

i honestly dont have a clue what our best team is after that

  • 363 Toon1978 // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:52 PM

    Absolute utter dross.

  • 364 Jamiemac // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:52 PM

I think ‘meh’ would describe that performance

  • 365 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:52 PM

Poor sammy has no ability to actually read the game!

    Biggest highlight?
Paul Dummett this lad is going to be special for us!!

  • 366 Hatem's better than Messi // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:53 PM

    Hopefully no injuries.

Very slow tempo … could be a rude awakening next Monday.

  • 367 Krul To Be Kind // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:54 PM

    Norcal – Finally :-)

que the ‘Colo scored from a corner today – he’s like a new signing – we no longer need the 6ft + CH’

    sorry couldn’t help myself

  • 368 Scouse_geordie // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:54 PM

i think dummet and sammy before santon and guti, and anything but 1 up front as cisse just cant play on his own….which is what he did for most of the game today with ameobi

  • 369 TheToonKing // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:54 PM

well, that was very average and exactly the same as last year…. nothing changed. If this is what is to come we’re in for a horrific season again.

My guess is Pardew will not make it till Christmas. Hope I’m wrong.

    NOT looking forward to City.

  • 370 Rotonda heights // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:55 PM

    for city

    Krul
    Debs, Colo, M’Biwa, Santon
    Sissoko Cabaye, Anita
    Benny Cisse Goofy / Remy?

  • 371 Beattie25 // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:55 PM

    Same Ameobi. My god.

  • 372 Krul To Be Kind // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:55 PM

scouse – 15 in 15 season before last when up top on his own!

  • 373 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:56 PM

So best team that’s currently available??
    In a 433
    Krul
    Debs Yanga Colo Dummett

    Sissoko/Anita Cabaye

    Marv
    Benny Goofy
    Cisse

  • 374 Toon1978 // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:57 PM

Remy must be thinking”wtf have a done” lol. We seriously need 1 strikers. I dont care what anyone says. Ameobi’s time at this club is over imo. Not only that we SERIOUSLY need some width. That game was so bloody boring its unreal. I think we muster half a dozen shots at goal at the most.

  • 375 Graeme // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:57 PM

Well, that was very much deja vu from last season – what did it prove?

Pardew still doesnt know what his best 11 is? He is keeping everyone guessing? Doesn’t want to give anything away to Shitty, before we play at their place??

    I really dont know.

  • 376 Scouse_geordie // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:57 PM

    krul_ wasnt he with ba?

  • 377 Yohan Kebab // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:58 PM

city will tear us limb from limb

  • 378 Beattie25 // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:58 PM

    Pardew is a liar.

He says the things you lot want to here.

Like someone mentioned above, pass and move?! What pass and move?!!!!

  • 379 Unbelievable Tekkers // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:58 PM

Rotunda – Unfortunately i have very little faith in pardew to drop Jonas and tiote so this is my predicted line up for City:

    Krul

    Debuchy Mbiwa Colo Santon

    HBA Tiote Cabaye Sissoko Jonas

    Cisse

  • 380 Indian Magpie // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:58 PM

This Team Kine up thing is like

Teaching an Illiterate Chemistry with pardew

  • 381 AmeobiTheMackemSlayer // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:59 PM

I’m no football manager but the 4-4-2 clearly doesn’t work for us. We need to get back to the 4-3-3 that worked so well in that 6 game win streak.

  • 382 luke.r // Aug 10, 2013 at 7:59 PM

First time ive proper seen Dummet. Lad looks good. I hope hell get a few games this season

Cabaye completely changed that game when he came on, really added some quality passing.

We were a bit too patient with the ball and no cutting edge in the 1st half. But still i dont think thats gonna be the team we play against city

  • 383 Greebol1892 // Aug 10, 2013 at 8:02 PM

Dummett was calm and assured – impressed with him.
Sammy has not improved at all and still looks lost – nowhere near good enough. Same as his older brother who is crap – full stop.

Gouffran gives us much more options because he’s quality on the ball and good movement.

Still, not enough attempts on goal for me.

Finally – the referee was a pain in the @rse – doing his best to break up and spoil the game.

  • 384 Krul To Be Kind // Aug 10, 2013 at 8:04 PM

Scouse – no m8, Ba played out wide… do you mean isolated rather than up front alone? If you do I’m of the same opinion meaning the defence needs to push further up (which is why Yanga is so important with his pace for covering) and the midfield supports quicker and the wide men tuck in more… IMO all FUNDAMENTAL TACTICAL FLAWS in which Pardew is at fault and most professional sides carry out these basic duties, but unfortunately we are to concerned about the opposition and play with shackles on unfortunately.

Pardew needs to unleash the beast that is very possibly our best squad for around 10 years and let teams worry about us… especially at home!

  • 385 Shadow_Shearer // Aug 10, 2013 at 8:04 PM

I honestly can’t see pardew lasting, I give him to the end of the season, max!!

  • 386 Scouse_geordie // Aug 10, 2013 at 8:05 PM

i thought sammy looked good actually, good on the ball and carried it well

  • 387 BDin9 // Aug 10, 2013 at 8:11 PM

Luke, exactly. It’s still a friendly. In all probability we will get beat at city. Let’s wait n see after that. I think we will do ok this season. The squad has had the experience of the back end of last season so no excuses
