Much Better News On Newcastle Striker

9:22 am, Saturday, August 10th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 33 Comments

Loic Remy was in training on Thursday at the Benton Training grounds and that was a good sign that the French International striker could still make the start of the season a week on Monday at the Etihad Stadium, even if he starts on the bench at Manchester City.

loic remy joe kinnear

Loic Remy with KinnearJoe’s first signing in his new job

The Queens Park Rangers striker has been suffering with a calf injury for the last three weeks, but was running around the training fields – which was a good sign.

Loic has not yet joined up with the main squad as the medics ensure his calf is OK, and we hope that fitness consultant Faye Downey is involved in his training.

And Loic will be introduced to the crowd before the game tonight against SC Braga, and we hope he gets a great reception from the fans.

If Remy cannot start at the Etihad, which seems likely then Newcastle will probably play Papiss Cisse up front and pack the midfield, and anything our of that game will be a bonus.

The next game at home to West Ham, but that will not be easy as Sam Allardyce always seems to do well at Newcastle, since being fired from Newcastle five and a half years ago.

West Ham won 1-0 in the same fixture last season with a goal in the first half from – who else but from former captain Kevin Nolan – who was great while he was on Tyneside.

Newcastle must get off to a good start in the league this season, and we need a win against the Hammers this time around.

Im more worried about his rape case if I’m honest

  • 2 Pizzicato The Arizona Geordie // Aug 10, 2013 at 9:31 AM

So there’s no charge on him… when will we find out if he’s clear?

  • 3 Sir Braveheart // Aug 10, 2013 at 9:31 AM

You’d like to think if there was something solid in the accusation he’d have been locked up straight away, not allowed back on the streets.

I think between him and Cisse we’ll get 30 goals. Another 15-20 from midfield. 20 from Shola and a headed goal from a corner by Williamson. I may have overstretched on the last two.

    Ben3arfa

I think if the evidence was there he would have been charged by now, but there’s always a chance, glad we got him on loan tbh. Hopefully we sign him the day after he is cleared.

Hope the lads cheer him out the stadium so he knows what football and our club means to us.

I’ll ask the question again what’s everyone’s favourite game since coming back up?

    Sean,
I’m not itk I just simply follow all NUFC related news, which clearly has Pards accepting part responsibility for last summers debacle, and anybody with half a footballing brain would know that the manager did not make the decision to weaken the team before embarking on an EL campaign.

  • 8 Hatem's better than Messi // Aug 10, 2013 at 9:36 AM

Is Faye Downey with the club all season or just for the Portugal trip & preseason training?

Sean has to be 5under1and match … although AC´s return was fun.

  • 9 Magpie Myles // Aug 10, 2013 at 9:40 AM

    SeanNufc87

    Either NUFC 6 – 0 AV

    or

    NUFC 5 – 1 5under1and

    or

    NUFC 3 – 0 MUFC

    Hatem

Ac blatant dive in the box? Classic.

    trasfers gone quite again :-(

hope we sign gomis and sinclair fast so they dont get pushed straight in if they do sign.

  • 12 Felipe // Aug 10, 2013 at 9:43 AM

Jail, I agree with you that the board were to blame for not strengthening last summer but they made up for that mistake in January and will hopefully finish the job in the next three weeks. We now have a much stronger squad than the one that finished 5th. Heads down, lets get behind the team and get off to a strong start.
Any manager outside the top 6 would say the aim is survival until we reach 40 points then lets get into the top 10. The higher we get above that the better. They’re not going to say they’re targeting 5th because that is unrealistic.

  • 13 SeanNufc87 // Aug 10, 2013 at 9:47 AM

Don’t know if it was because of how poor last season was but one of my faves was the 3-2 win against Chelsea, when sissoko scored the winner and ran to the dugout to celebrate with the coaches and staff.

  • 14 Toonboy_84 // Aug 10, 2013 at 9:48 AM

Aaahhh Carroll’s return. That was a great day.

2 nil at Stamford bridge? Cisse worldy!

  • 15 Magpie Myles // Aug 10, 2013 at 9:49 AM

can’t forget the 4 – 4 with arsenal as well!

  • 16 Jail for Ashley // Aug 10, 2013 at 9:50 AM

    Felipe,
It all hinges on this last three weeks of the window to see whether they have learned from their mistakes but it’s looking increasingly likely that the same team that shipped ten goals without reply will be facing City next week.
I don’t think Brendan Rodgers was thinking about Lpools survival after finishing seventh.

  • 17 ToonandGloom // Aug 10, 2013 at 9:51 AM

Got to be the 5-1 against Thunlan

  • 18 Do the shaka hislop // Aug 10, 2013 at 9:52 AM

Still say thats louis walsh with remy like…

a loan deal is certainly best to protect the club, could always make it permanent come jan by paying the last of the 6.8mil buyout clause.

dont know why we aren’t looking at the likes of fischer from ajax, cracking young winger, would come under 10mil, good on the ball, great vision, strong and an eye for goal hence 20 goals from lw/cam role last season… and ajax dont produce bad players like… alderwiereld has already said he wont move and didnt fancy newcastle, sure I read that somewhere, so how about getting back in for zouma from st. Etienne. And imo, id cash in on santon and buy a full back who can go forwards AND backwards, lads got massive potential but niether of our full backs can defend, which leaves us getting minced week in week out.

    lads got unreal composure

  • 19 Felipe // Aug 10, 2013 at 9:54 AM

Jail, but it’s not the same team. Those 5 players we signed in January are not coming into a relegation battle this time round. We’ve got a fresh start, no Thursday-Sunday schedule. Besides, the season is 40+ games and I’m not concerned if new signings miss the first couple.
There’s plenty to be positive about.

  • 20 wynsleap // Aug 10, 2013 at 9:56 AM

You mentioned Ed how both the first two games will be difficult for different reasons. I think you’ll find this season that EVERY game this season will be difficult – and all for a variety of reasons – not the least being the weakened squad from last year, a negative manager with no tactics to speak of and a coaching team who can’t get players to score from a corner or play a passing game.
It’s going to be a long hard winter and I think the first two games will define the mood of the club and its fans.

  • 21 Felipe // Aug 10, 2013 at 9:56 AM

I count Liverpool as the 6th in the top 6. As it stands at the moment Man U, Man C, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs & Liverpool are going to be hard to catch. Anyone who finishes in the top 6 has played above themselves.
Moyes always used to say when asked that his target was survival until the reached 40 points. That after finishing in the top 8 most seasons.

  • 22 Beattie25 // Aug 10, 2013 at 9:59 AM

    Felipe

You don’t half speak some gubbins.

A club the size of nufc should never target the avoidance of relegation.

Mike Ashley and his mouth piece Pardew have spent the past few years dampening expectations and lowering the standards of the club.

It is a shame to see fans lapping up the small club mentality that we have been fed.

Your entitled to your opinion but in my opinion you and people like you are an embarrassment to the club.

We should always aim to finish as high as we can. We should never focus on avoiding relegation and then concentrate on a league finish,

Don’t bother replying as I won’t read it. I won’t be here for the next 8 hours.

  • 23 Felipe // Aug 10, 2013 at 10:01 AM

    Beattie25
Who’s an embarrassment to the club. Me who supports the team all the time or you and your like who are talking them down continuously.
I notice that you chose to focus on me rather than on the debate about the best game in the last two seasons. Funny how none of the neggers have joined in that debate. Mackems all…

  • 24 Ben3arfa // Aug 10, 2013 at 10:04 AM

I see everyone has been quiet just because Kinnear signed Remy?

The season is about to start and we’re well behind the ball game, when is that old buffoon going to move out of his granny panties

  • 25 jackostoon // Aug 10, 2013 at 10:05 AM

It’s all gone quiet on the transfer front, I’m hoping that’s a good thing, I like surprises

  • 26 Hatem's better than Messi // Aug 10, 2013 at 10:06 AM

It was just a question of time … I´m out for the day too.
    Have fun “Felipe”.

  • 27 Felipe // Aug 10, 2013 at 10:08 AM

We’ve replaced Ba with Remy, Perch with Mbiwa and added Sissoko, Haidara and Gouffran. How does that equate to a weaker squad?

Still hoping for another striker and defender before the end of the month. Thinking positive…

  • 28 nut meg // Aug 10, 2013 at 10:13 AM

somebody on twitter saying according to Al Jazeera Lyon have dropped their asking price for Gomis to 7 m euro so we can cover agents fees.True or not ?

  • 29 LeedsMag // Aug 10, 2013 at 10:21 AM

The squad is weaker for 2 reasons 1 – We have not replaced Ba , Gouffran is not a prolific goalscorer, the striking department is light and Cisse is hot & cold 2-We have never gone after the centre half we desperately need – the only defensive strengthening was Haidara – a young lad of promise but no more as yet, and will he get a game?
2 or 3 injuries to this squad and a “big player” sold and we are f@ckd.All the talk is of strikers – Gomis(classic NUFC yawn saga) but nobody seems to want to address what was about the 3rd most leaky defence last term

  • 30 OhSholaAmeobi // Aug 10, 2013 at 10:24 AM

    Felipe

To be honest we lost Best, Lovenkrands, Ranger, Ba and Carroll and in that time brought in Cisse and Gouffran.
Haidara replaced outgoing Simpson. Who we’ve brought in are improvements but they haven’t really increased the squad size.

  • 31 supershola // Aug 10, 2013 at 12:42 PM

Leeds mag I totally agree. We are desperate for a defender. I dont why everyone seems to believe our defence is ok and we dont have to worry about it. We were shocking last term and to think we are still yet to actaully buy a player this season is embarrasing.

  • 32 Sir Braveheart // Aug 10, 2013 at 1:30 PM

We’ve not replaced Ba? Is Remy Harpers replacement then?

  • 33 bobby mango // Aug 10, 2013 at 2:39 PM

I’m not so sure we need a defender. Just need to defend better… Aside from Simpson we’ve got the same from the 5th place and we defended well (in most games) that year.

Problem I see is we’ve got a squad perfectly set-up to play attacking, flowing football. With that we should be pressing high up the pitch. Last season I can’t describe the amount of times I watched in disbelief as we kept backing off teams, letting them run at us until we were on the 18 hard line. Too many times it resulted in conceding a goal. Colo might not have the pace to play high up the field but the rest of the team is designed for it.
