Newcastle French Target Will Request A Transfer

3:35 pm, Sunday, August 11th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 159 Comments

Newcastle have been interested in French International center-back Mamadou Sakho, and have kept an eye in the PSG defender as he has tried to win a first team starting position at the French club.

Mamadou Sakho in French coloras

Mamadou Sakho – wants to leave PSG

But with Brazilian International Thiago Silva staying at PSG, it may be that Mamadou will be struggling again to get a first team place in his club side, the season before the World Cup in Brazil next summer, and he would want to be in the French squad.

There a report in L’Equipe today that has the headline “Sakho wants to leave Paris!” and the 23 year-old says the following:

“I was waiting to talk with the coach and the President, Nasser al-Khelaïfi. Now that it’s done in my head, everything is clear. We will see in the near future which will be my decision.”

Mamadou’s contract ends next summer, so if he does seek a transfer than his transfer fee should be reduced, and it would remain to be seen if Newcastle decider they want to bring in another center-back.

It’s a toss-up between Steven Taylor or Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa who starts at Manchester City alongside Fabricio Coloccini, so Joe Kinnear and Alan Pardew may decode that the defense is OK for next season with three defenders having been acquired in January and Paul Dummett looking very good at left back.

And Paul can also play at right back too, and he already looks to be a very good attacking full-back, whose confidence has risen after his successful loan spell at St. Mirren last season.

Didier Deschamps did not give Mamadou a call-up for friendly match between France and Belgium on Wednesday, and L’Equipe are reporting they think the French International will soon put in transfer request.

AC Milan and Liverpool are mentioned as possible suitors, but Newcastle are not mentioned.

What do you think?

If we start talking to Sakho now we may be able to wrap the deal up buy the start of the 2016 season

  • 2 Bambams // Aug 11, 2013 at 3:45 PM

wonder if we are being used.Marseille will be telling him to stall as long as he can, keep saying he wants Toon move, blame agents and all the way to the end of the window. In Jan they will offer 2/3 million hence saving them 5/6 million which they will offer him a good wage.If Gomis wants to come he would of told his agents to accept what they were offered or he could of threatened to sign a new contract at his current club and they got nothing.Remy ruled out of opener according to FTB Pro, calf strain.

Sakho in, willo out. Rotate between him tayls and mapou depending on form/fitness. A little healthy competition can work wonders

What is it with MA and France you would think it was the only country in the world we can get signings from. Don’t get me wrong there’s some great players come out of France. I suppose he doesn’t want to pay a penny over the odds. Trouble is it usually takes a couple of seasons for them to adapt to the premier league.

Theres was about 80,300 fans at the comm shield today. 6500 of them being Wigan fans.

I don’t think he is good enough for us.

  • 14 Thump // Aug 11, 2013 at 4:14 PM

@NUFCarter: In fairness, the Man U fans only had to catch a tube to get to Wembley whereas the Wigan fans came from west Manchester.

  • 15 bills-son // Aug 11, 2013 at 4:17 PM

STaylor is heading for Shola territory by the sounds of it.

Fat, slow, short and not good enough seem to be the buzz words from ‘fans’ on here.

  • 16 JackButler // Aug 11, 2013 at 4:18 PM

Thump – Jonas out injured now so attention has turn to Saylor 😀

On Sakho, he’s a very good player but he’s never gonna leave PSG to come here to warm our bench as Pardew will not drop Saylor or Colo for the lad so he’ll be in the same position as he’s in now, anyway we need a left winger and striker in before we look at anywhere else on the field

  • 17 Felipe // Aug 11, 2013 at 4:19 PM

I meant Sakho isn’t good enough for us. Steven Taylor certainly is.

  • 18 valle // Aug 11, 2013 at 4:22 PM

Whats with Wigan and all the Mac’s? It should be called McWigan… You got McArthur, McCann, McCarthy, McClean and McManaman playing just today.

  • 19 NUFCarter // Aug 11, 2013 at 4:23 PM

most MUFC fans are glory supporters and theres probably more ‘MUFC fans’ in London than there is Arsenal Chelsea and Spurs put together haha.

  • 20 valle // Aug 11, 2013 at 4:24 PM

Taylor bleeds black and white. When he comes on he is always sure to add some fire and he ALWAYS looks like he cares. Something that cant be said about all our players.

  • 21 Sazzer // Aug 11, 2013 at 4:28 PM

    Sakho vs Taylor
Sakho is better passer of the two.
and he puts in more tackles and make more interceptions.

Otherwise they are rather similar in terms of stats.

  • 22 Sazzer // Aug 11, 2013 at 4:29 PM

    and McPerchinho.

  • 23 Slank // Aug 11, 2013 at 4:32 PM

We do not need another defender.

We need at least one forward.

We also need a third keeper.

  • 24 Slank // Aug 11, 2013 at 4:34 PM

    Sakho vs Taylor

You cannot compare a central defender who has played in the premiership for quite a few years and one who has never played in this country let alone the Premiership.

  • 25 Shadow_Shearer // Aug 11, 2013 at 4:34 PM

There will be 2 much demand for this guy, only reason he will come here if for the french revolution! That’s our only hope of convincing him

  • 26 bills-son // Aug 11, 2013 at 4:41 PM

I totally disagree – we need two defenders, a tall dominant centre half and a full back who can defend.

Our ‘best’ defence of Debuchy – STalor/Mbiwa – Colo – Santon is imo one of the weakest in the Prem.

Two full backs who can’t defend and first choice central defenders who, Mbiwa as a possible exception, have no pace and none of then STaylor included have a real physical presence.

  • 27 north_country_boy // Aug 11, 2013 at 4:43 PM

How many would take Hernandez plus £10m for Cabaye and buy Ince or Sinclair with the cash or Hernandez and Nani for Cabaye? Would we really need to replace Cabaye when we have Sissoko, Marveaux, Vuckic and maybe Gosling if he stays to play in there, just change the system slightly which may help as the one we play at the minute seems to be choking the teams balance – Cabaye goes and striker and winger in for nil spend?

  • 28 roy // Aug 11, 2013 at 4:47 PM

Kinnear is in France and said last night the Gomis deal is dead. So who else is on the list? Hernandez ince and Sinclair plus a Belgium striker. That’s what he told fans at last nights match.

  • 29 nufc786 // Aug 11, 2013 at 4:47 PM

Joe Kinnear has this morning been pictured by @Matt_Skeen1 at Newcastle train station on his way to London to get the Eurostar to northern Europe.

According to the Newcastle season ticket holder’s Twitter profile, he claimed he was ‘after Sinclair, Ince and a young Belgian striker’.

While Ince and Sinclair have been heavily linked with the Toon by the media over the past week, the supposed Belgian target is new. And it’s presumed to be Standard Liege’s young starlet, Michy Batshuayi.

  • 30 Thump // Aug 11, 2013 at 4:48 PM

@north_country_boy: I’d snap their f’ing hand off, mate.

  • 31 Mister Tuff // Aug 11, 2013 at 4:49 PM

Whilst a feeble attack (non existent)puts pressure on the midfield and defence and therefore makes it slightly more difficult to judge exactly where better players are needed there can be no doubt that if our one and only signing is Remy -we will still have difficulties up front. A powerful front player is needed in addition along with someone who can play on the wing. AND a central defender -tall/commanding. Anyone who cannot see this really needs to change their game -perhaps to netball or ladies rugby.

  • 32 Rotonda heights // Aug 11, 2013 at 5:01 PM

Saylor does the old chest thumping and chorus leading bit to a tee but he gets turned so easily its embarrassing. just look at Southampton’s 2 goals to SJP as yet another example.

Moyes has now won more in one game than we have in 60 years!!

  • 33 sam123nufc // Aug 11, 2013 at 5:04 PM

Good old joe, working hard seven days a week ahaha. If your a season ticket holder how do you go about getting the strip from last night?

  • 34 potski // Aug 11, 2013 at 5:08 PM

It doesn’t matter that he cares about the club, what matters is can he play at the top level. Putting the injuries aside, then the answer has to be no.

No top club have ever been seriously interested in him, and no England manager has ever let him near the team. Given that we are not exactly well stocked with world class CBs at the minute, what does that tell you? The guy was the England U21 captain if I remember correctly, but he has never gone on to prove he can play consistently since then.

Not dreadful, despite all the mistakes he makes, but only good enough as a regular starter in a midtable team.

If you want more then you want something like:

    Santon – Sakho – Collo – Mbiwa

With Saylor on the bench. Then when Colli finally gets his move back to San Lorenzo, Sakho and Mbiwa are the CB pairing.

  • 35 Yorkgeordie // Aug 11, 2013 at 5:08 PM

  • 36 Sazzer // Aug 11, 2013 at 5:24 PM

You have to otherwise you would only be able to buy players from Premier League.

If compare Mbiwas L1 and his PL stats there isn’t huge difference.

So let’s compare Taylor and Mbiwa then.
Taylor is more accurate passer , blocks more shots and win more aerial duels ( Sakho as good in this parts though)

Mbiwa puts in double amount of tackles and makes double amount of interceptions. (Similar to Sakho) He’s loses the ball more often and as well making more dribbles.

Sakho looks to have the best parts from Taylor and Mbiwa.

  • 38 potski // Aug 11, 2013 at 5:26 PM

Lol, of course it’s not true. As if he’s going to tell some random bloke at a train station that he wants of Shola?

The guy is putting 2+2 and getting 10! If he was really going to Belgium/Holland he would have flown from Newcastle to Amsterdam. You can’t get a train from Newcastle through the Channel Tunnel, you would have to change trains (and get a tube?) in London. More likely he was going back to his home down south.

  • 39 Indian Magpie // Aug 11, 2013 at 5:27 PM

    Oops, rid of Shola

  • 41 Sazzer // Aug 11, 2013 at 5:32 PM

If Willo wasn’t such an awful passer he’s got better stats then S.Taylor. Since Willo wins double amount of aerial duels, puts in more tackles and makes more interceptions.

  • 42 Felipe // Aug 11, 2013 at 5:33 PM

God it’s bad on here. We’re going to sack Carr in the morning and replace him with sazzers stats. We’ll fire JFK (not a bad idea I hear you say!) and replace him with North Country Boy’s Xbox wheeling and dealing!

I wish the season would bl**dy hurry up and start so we can talk about the football!!!

If you are a geordie, thump your chest, wave your fist to the Gallowgate, dance around in front of keepers at free kicks, occasionally get shot in the chest when you’ve just blatantly handled the ball, would rather collect stamps than have anything to do with the SMBs, then if course you can play for the club. Real ability not required.

  • 44 Felipe // Aug 11, 2013 at 5:34 PM

If you start banging out excuses ie Agents fees etc then that is not going to hold any water with just about all of us and it will prove you are a Billy Bullshi.ter just like our manager.

    Its up to you fella.

    @Potski 42

    Take a deep breath… you’re hyperventilating

  • 48 Felipe // Aug 11, 2013 at 5:40 PM

Steven Taylor is at least an u21 international. He’s not just some kid who turned up from wallsend boys club with his own ball and asked for a game.
Personally, I think the club needs a couple of home grown players around the place to remind the foreigners what it’s all about. He’s had his injuries the last couple of seasons but last season he was getting rave reviews again until the lpool and mackem debacles. Hardly both entirely his fault. Turn the xbox off and make a cuppa…

  • 49 Thump // Aug 11, 2013 at 5:47 PM

I honestly can’t believe what I’m reading on here… some of you lads really need to put your pitchforks down and give your heads a massive wobble. It’s like the Village of the f’ing Damned in here sometimes, I swear.

  • 50 potski // Aug 11, 2013 at 5:49 PM

I’ll grant you the result against the Maccems was not down to Saylor but he was dreadful against Liverpool.

Lol, I’m not hyperventilating, it’s a bit tongue in cheek. I had a real good laugh at the video someone posted earlier today of Saylor’s efforts to distract the keeper on Cabaye’s free kick. He’s a character for sure and good to have around the club. But would anyone want him to be on the plane to Brazil next year with the likelihood of starting for England?

  • 51 valle // Aug 11, 2013 at 5:49 PM

Potski… Its more than that, there is nothing more annoying than watching a team with no spark and desire whatsoever. I agree that there are much better players out there, and in a perfect world we wouldnt need him, but as it is we have to many players who just dont give a s*it. Furthermore, im sorry but its absolute bull that he aint EPL standard. He was a part of the reason we had the best defense in the league 2 seasons ago in the first 12 or so matches we ended up with allot of clean sheets as well.

Indian… Cheap shot you took there, dont make it sound like your all that because you know shit like the rest of us.

The point is that it is not a criteria.

  • 54 Sazzer // Aug 11, 2013 at 5:59 PM

I’m watching a great game between Schalke – Hamburg right now.

Stats it’s not an end all but gives u an indication. You still need to watch the games to know how to interept that stats correctly. And rewatch them as well.

Considering Taylor and Willo making less interceptions then the others could simply mean that they are more effective at something that doesn’t show up in stats or that they have another role etc.

  • 55 valle // Aug 11, 2013 at 6:04 PM

Indian… Well, yes, I get what you mean. The thing is that we really do need players with that never say die attitude who just keep fighting. I would love to have a few of those with some skills added, because we sorely need that. He aint as bad as he is made to look on this blog though, but I agree that he aint among the two best central defenders we have for pure skill… What I want to boil it down to is this… After years of watching this team we all love roll over and give up, I have come to respect a player like Taylor who just wont give up. There are much better players out there, sure, but imo he is due some respect and have a role at this club.

  • 56 Felipe // Aug 11, 2013 at 6:04 PM

Sakho is World Class, we should feel lucky if NUFC are only mentioned to be interested. I think we have a great chance of signing him, but with this board I am afraid we don’t stand a chance of going for him 🙁

  • 58 Pokat // Aug 11, 2013 at 6:13 PM

Just like the Shola thing and then Jonas, S Taylor is next for despatching to the pit of hungry dogs. Now let me see what do they have in common? Ah yes, unswervingly loyal to the club and love to play for us. ‘Not good enough’, you say? Why yes, I’d rather have a petulant mercenary who will one week bring us glory, the next be on a plane to his home country because manager/director/contract renegotiation/awful fan has upset him. OK, Shola may have few things left to give but has been kept on by many managers not just because he is cheap but he provides a game involving more than being a goal machine, his ability to support another striker, pressurise a jaded defence into making a crucial mistake has been a tactical asset. And he was a very cheap jump start at the crucial start of the championship season. But no, he is a washed up failure, a joke and a laughing stock of the club.

Jonas, damn no! Hard work? Who cares whether he is a grafter who never gives up, he’s wasting decent space that (insert multi-functioned winger/dm here) could occupy. He should be able to adapt to the strategy, never mind if his game is being ruined coincidentally since the tenure of Pardew. I don’t care if his km/game is one of the highest in the team, he has lost pace I tell you!

Saylor? We couldn’t wait for him to come back from injury, but after a while of him being out, we slowly awakened from the illusion he was a lay-it-on-the-line full guts defender and a decent one at that. Who cares if lack of games made him rusty when he got back, its not good enough. U-21 England player? Give him a run in a settled defence? Don’t make me laugh!

I’d say the worst individual of all is the 12th team member. Specifically the ones that can’t just give an honest critique with a nod to the players good qualities, but have to go one more and savage someone who was once held in high regard, the same 12th man who used to slag off SBR.

  • 59 JP...from The Rock // Aug 11, 2013 at 6:14 PM

If the Gomis deal isn’t near complete by Tuesday we should set a deadline and make a move elsewhere- hell we should be moving now and trying to get others ‘over the blooming line’!

It’s so frustrating watching us operate in the transfer market, it’s as sad as watching paint dry honestly.

Linked to thousands of world class players, some of which we are more than capable of signing IF we had any real ambition, only to end up signing one player and on loan for example!

I am going to go shoot myself now…

For those slagging Saylor, they don’t appreciate all his hard work, skill and guts for the cause.

For those slagging Jonas, many are right to criticise as he is nowhere near being a ‘winger’ and is more capable playing as CM / CDM with all that chasing back and tackling.

For those slagging Shola, I am with ya!! How on earth can this guy be called a ‘forward, striker or attacker’ is beyond me. I even struggle to call him a footballer. Yes yes now I will get his loyalty crap and Mackem slayer thrown at me again. His stats don’t lie and his all round contribution, ‘skills??’, and 13 years of him training daily and of me and thousands shouting at him he still hasn’t improved and only got worse is shockingly awful for everyone that has any common sense. To me even Emile Heskey, Carl Cort, Andreas Andersson, Shefti Kuqi are miles better than this ‘player’.

No bet after his usual effort in pre-season will he get an extension on his NUFC career. A blind could tell you Strolla’s Shite!!!

Now I can rest in peace after getting that off my chest! goodbye.

@JP: Honestly, I quite liked Kuqi. Yes, he was never going to score a shedload for us (as it turned out, he scored exactly zero) but had he have been given more than a few minutes, I reckon he’d have done something. The lad was an absolute steamroller! He had a brilliant attitude and genuinely looked chuffed to be wearing the black and white (especially given his history). I kind of likened him to Best when we first signed him. All the right positions and all the right moves, but that finishing touch evaded him.

  • 72 Pokat // Aug 11, 2013 at 6:34 PM

Yes , Shola was a plaer for a purpose and was recognised as such, he was never an out – and – out goal machine, injury saw that off comlpetely, but his physical presence and (undoubtedly at times very frustrating) technique in harrying defenders was often used to effect. I hate stats, they are an antiseptic and specious way of evaluating anything for one’s own purpose. They do lie if you frame them as you wish.
This is not to say that I dont think Sho has outlived his purpose and he should be replaced, but I find it distasteful that some fans find it necessary to be so denigrating about someone who has never put himself before the club, and done nothing to harm it. Give the lad some dignity, leave it to the mackems revile our players s all I am saying here.

Thump – Exactly. I’d have Kuqi over Shola anytime. A steam-roller like you delightfully put it causes opposing defenders problems. What threat does Strolla Ameobi pose? Okay so Strolla’s tall and strongish but he doesn’t make much happen! Ever! Only in pre-season and derbies. I just can’t stand seeing him get picked over and over. It seriously depresses me and angers me. Ever since Sir Bobby gave him his chance I kept an eye on him but I soon realised that he was shite as a ‘striker’ Sholla might be a great defender-who knows but MY GOD HE AIN’T NO STRIKER THAT’S FOR SURE!! LOL

I cringe at seeing his name anywhere near the team sheet. Young Adam Campbell should be taking his spot with another young up and coming striker from the corner of the globe alongside him on the bench- NOT STROLLA. Who knows maybe even Xisco would have been a success if we hadn’t played Strolla ahead of him every time we had an injury crisis.

Our club is so daft it’s beyond any reasoning, it really is. The awful board and managerial decisions we constantly do season after season it’s a miracle we’ve only been relegated once. Had Shearer not been around (playing) to save us we would have probably been playing in division 1 or 2 by now.

  • 80 Belfast // Aug 11, 2013 at 6:51 PM

Liverpool get 25% of the transfer fee. That’s why the price is so high. Plus they get first option to buy him if Blackpool accept a bid from another club.

  • 81 Pokat // Aug 11, 2013 at 6:55 PM

While I’m riding the controversy train ha ha I also agree with spotlight kid prev threads.

    1. Ashley got diddled by FFS 2. Ashley Fights interest fires and cuts his bleeding losses with a personal 100k loan to stop the rot 3. Ashley runs club on hairline budget allowing club to repay and become self-reliant 4. Ashley sells stable NUFC and moves on to more lucrative venture.

Just like the ‘loan’, its not personal. Its business.

  • 82 JP...from The Rock // Aug 11, 2013 at 6:58 PM

Pokat – If I knew I was as lucky as Shola was to still be considered a footballer, a striker even, by such a great club as NUFC I wouldn’t dream of putting myself ahead of the club. Stop giving Shola any credit because with the thousands he’s getting every week and him knowing that NO OTHER Premiership team would buy him of course he’s going to do all he can to keep that money coming in. You call that loyalty? Knowing you’re crap and knowing you’re so lucky to still be in such an historic club and ripping the club off thousands as you can’t be half arsed to jog on the pitch, let alone run and score! (that’s his job after all)

  • 83 JP...from The Rock // Aug 11, 2013 at 7:02 PM

Belfast – Where did u hear Liverfool get first option to buy if Blackpool sell? If that’s true you can kiss our chances goodbye :/

I don’t know why we don’t go for proper quality in Boudebouz, Mertens, Thauvin again, Martin and the like.

    Sinclair would be good too.

Tom Ince overated and not worth £8m. We need remy and cisse to stay fit all season to finish top 8 imo

  • 87 JP...from The Rock // Aug 11, 2013 at 7:04 PM

Kets- good shout, Valencia would improve our squad massively, a wealth of experience and knows the EPL inside out. Only problem is he’s getting on a bit isn’t he?

  • 88 Belfast // Aug 11, 2013 at 7:06 PM

Read it the other week when Cardiff had a bid accepted for him. Blackpool then have to contact Liverpool and inform them of the bid and weather or not they want to match it. I don’t think Liverpool where interested though

  • 89 AndyNUFC // Aug 11, 2013 at 7:06 PM

The Shola bashing is pointless. He actually has a powerful shot and is good for aiming the ball toward but can’t dribble or pass. That doesn’t bother me – it’s just that we heavily rely on him. For his pride in the shirt, attitude and record in the derbies he is worth keeping (but should be allowed to leave so he can go to the World cup with another club).

  • 90 Sir Braveheart // Aug 11, 2013 at 7:07 PM

Thats my virw on Ashley too Polkat. Once he’s made back all the money he’s invested he’ll sell the club for around 200m and walk away happy.

Who we get next should be a worry…

  • 91 Pokat // Aug 11, 2013 at 7:12 PM

Valencia? OK thats great we’ll get him. Oh wait what about Marouane Chamakh oh damn he’s been snapped up. OK that was harsh but really Valencia? Talk about a flipswitch.

  • 92 croftus5678 // Aug 11, 2013 at 7:12 PM

“if” we only sign remy on loan this wondow it will be a very very poor window imo as much as he will push us forward we need atleast another player to get better than other clubs imo.

i think its rubbish mind you and think we will sign gomis who i think will be awsome as muscle on our front lines.

and ince aint overated if anything i think underated ! yes he’s not tried in the prem and all that but to get a player that self motivated and wanting to stand out as a star as it looks like he wants to ! his vision/passing/eye for goal/shooting and movement/reading of the game all in one player is a god send and i really struggle to think of players today with those attributes.

  • 93 JP...from The Rock // Aug 11, 2013 at 7:17 PM

    AndyNUFC – seriously!??

“He actually has a powerful shot and is good for aiming the ball toward”

–sorry but he may have a powerful shot but he can’t hit a barn door let alone guide the ball straight. He slices the ball 95% of the time he shoots or slips and blames the turf.

Think Titus Bramble as a striker and what do you get a Shola Ameobi- useless.

What kind of mentality is that also, he’s done well in derbies so I’d be happy to keep him? WTF!?

I would much rather see a proper striker score hat-tricks past the mackem scum instead of Shola do his usual one season wonder and score a couple against them and nothing else all season.

If Shola were 6th choice then I’ll say okay why not keep him. But the fact we rely on him every season is beyond a joke!

We were a laughing stock before Joe Kinnear came to NUFC and that’s because Shola was already here!

  • 101 NUFC FOR SALE // Aug 11, 2013 at 7:49 PM

Does anyone not agree that this has got to be the least optimistic pre season ever???

I can’t remember a pre season where the lack of ambition was so blatantly obvious and had this over welling feeling of same again.

I can only see this season going one way.

Pardew out by Christmas and a relegation battle with big name players wanting to jump ship.

I think our club needs consistency as much as anyone but you have to have the right man in charge from the start….Pardew is not that man.

Its unbelievable how much Pardew’s de-meaner has changed in his time here.

When Pardew first came to the club if thought he felt genuinely in oar of being given the job of such a big, special club……role on one 5th position and he never seems to shut up about his own abilities and confidence.

We need a modern manager and 3 signings, thats all it would take to kick this club on but we have an owner who is totally disinterested in the success of this club.

    @ Nufc for sale

    I feel your pain.

I will be annoyed if we bring in no-one else despite needing another striker and a left sided winger.

My main problem is how we are playing. I wanted Pardew gone after the 6-0 demolition and 3-0 derby defeat last season. Then he said he had learned from his mistakes, yet the football this pre-season has been the same that nearly got us relegated last year.

Our first 11 could give any team in the PL a hard time and a front three of HBA,Cisse & Remy could do some real damage if we had an attack minded manager that had some balls and went after teams, especially at home.

I still maintain the best signing we could have made this year was a new manager.

  • 105 stuart no9 // Aug 11, 2013 at 8:15 PM

  • 106 Graeme // Aug 11, 2013 at 8:17 PM

BPC – a new Manager, with possibly a couple of up to date coaches and the team would begin to breathe and play again.

A lot of hype on here but I think Taylor has always looked solid when played at RB. I like Debuchy (FFS the lad only joined us in January – give him a chance, he is quality).
Sakho is world class, as is MYM (who people are also writing-off already…)
We need better cover than Williamson and Taylor. However, our success rate this transfer window suggests we have no chance of getting this lad. He is better than Colo btw.

  • 109 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 11, 2013 at 8:26 PM

I love how Martinez was shot down as a potential Pardew replacement. Wigan were so direct today and didn’t get a sniff against Man U . All they did was hit it long for Holt and there was next to no build up.

Just shows how much a manager can affect what goes on in a match. Like when we see Cabaye run the show for France and look lost for us.

  • 110 AndyNUFC // Aug 11, 2013 at 8:30 PM

JP, as you say Shola is the Bramble of strikers (though a nice guy instead). He can play a handful of games, in fact his performances in derbies is nearly unrivalled, so as a back up striker I would keep him. Going forward though he will be leaving or retiring soon and I will happily see a consistently good replacement – but until then he is a damn site better than the highly paid, couldn’t care less mercenaries we have had.

  • 113 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 11, 2013 at 8:36 PM

    @ Stuart

I don’t think we will be relegation candidates unless we pick up the same amount of injuries as last year which is very unlikely .

I just think we won’t fill our true potential because of two things :

    1) Our Manager and training staff.

    2) Owner not capitalizing on the quality we already have in our squad. He could easily afford to drop 30 million and bring in the likes of Alderwireld, De Jong, & Sinclair, making us (on paper) level with Liverpool & Spurs.

  • 114 AndyNUFC // Aug 11, 2013 at 8:44 PM

Makes me smile seeing Hughton doing so well at Norwhich, signing good players – it just shows me we are not a football club. We are a commerical opportunity, an advertising vehicle for the owner to have fun with. We sacked Chris after promising his safety, after doing above expectation. Signed a few decent players to appease fans, brought in Pardew, got 5th, then done nothing.

The bottom line is, we have absolutely no ambition to be a top performing football club.

So for all the rabbling about how bad Pardew is; take a step back and think how bad our whole club actually is. 1 man is definitely responsible for the lack of attractiveness or success in our team, and he ain’t called Alan.

Shola “has a powerful shot”. I haven’t posted all summer but I had to come out for that one. I’ve now composed myself after rolling around laughing. He has not hit the ball cleanly once in his career. The only reason he gets the odd one is that the keepers can’t anticipate the scuffed shots.

  • 132 yo-yo // Aug 11, 2013 at 9:55 PM

Very apprehensive as we have finally seen the true level of ambition Mr Ashley has for our club – very little except stabilise at mid table.
We all know that three or four signings in the £5-10m range (say £30m total) would see us as Top 6. A real opportunity lost.

We all know the coaching side has not been strengthened, and our youth development is still sub-standard and we have no new thinking introduced and even those of us who will give AP a final chance to prove himself fear he is really not up to it.

We can also see club politics meaning there will be a war of succession between the existing very mediocre manager and aniothre potential medioicre manager currently our DoF.

IMHO a lot of folk think we are going nowhere.

Sakho will go to the Fools or Milan – we are no longer aiming high enough to attract a player of his calibre – nor Toby nor any of the othre quality CBs we so desperately need to improve our dismal defensive record when Saylor is injured and/or Colo decides to go.

“we have let simmo-perchinio-harper ect leave and as of yet not replaced them”

Not really true. Simpson was replaced with Debuchy. They wanted to sell him even for a small fee in January before he left on a free, but he was injured and interested clubs (I think he was linked to QPR, Fulham and West Ham) decided to wait until the summer.

Perch was bought as a CB cover who could also play RB. Those were the positions he played at Forest. He was later drafted in as DCM emergency cover due to injuries/suspensions. He did quite well, but this was not his position. He was our forth choice CB but it was clear when he did fill in at CB he was not EPL standard.

MYM replaced Perch as a proper CB, who can also play LB, RB or DCM, though I doubt from what we saw of him briefly at DCM that he could do that very well. He is second/third choice CB (depending on your view of Saylor), so he is not only a replacement for Perch but a big upgrade on him, Williamson and in my opinion Saylor.

Sissoko has replaced the need for Perch to play CM. I’m not sure as a holding player in 4-4-2, but we have Tiote, Anita, Bigi, Guti who can also play with Cabs in a 4-2-3-1. And Sissoko can play further up the pitch if he has to, which Perch couldn’t do. So again not even a replacement but a big upgrade.

The only position we haven’t replaced is GK. But even then the assumption was Harper was our number two keeper, but he slipped to third behind Elliott. I don’t know whether we need to buy a third choice or whether Alnwick has been given that role, though I suspect they are still looking at this position.

  • 145 Jail for Ashley // Aug 11, 2013 at 10:49 PM

  • 146 potski // Aug 11, 2013 at 10:58 PM

Fraser Foster was allowed to stay at Celtic because that is what he wanted after his year on loan there. He had been their number one keeper playing alot of games. He made it clear he wouldn’t come back as number three behind Harper and Krul, he felt he should be number two with the chance to soon take over as number one when Harper got too old. The club had a difficult choice to make between Krul and Foster both good keepers. I think they probably made the right choice.

  • 147 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 11, 2013 at 11:01 PM

It is obvious Gomis wants to come here. Its Ashley’s penny pinching that has stalled the move.

  • 148 Sazzer // Aug 11, 2013 at 11:02 PM

If you count Anita (late August) and Remy this window and 5 players in January. That’s 7 players. We have also signed one youngster this window.

  • 149 lesh // Aug 11, 2013 at 11:04 PM

Yes Jail, unless Kinnear comes up with the players Pardew’s publicly stated we need, then it looks very much that Pardew’s being set up to fail and the dreamteam of Kinnear and Harford running the show (down to a grinding halt!)

If things do start going belly up on the field, that’ll affect players who will no doubt not say no to a move in January or next summer.

And, that report on Kinnear saying he’s off to Belgium, sorry but if it was Kinnear an answer to the effect that hr was off to London wouldn’t have been wise – given the flak he’s been getting. If it was Kinnear telling who he was after, then he should be sacked.

It’s not impossible that Foster will come back if Krul leaves sometime in the future.

potski the same with “why did we sell perch?”
maybe because HE wanted to move and play alot more games!
or best again because he wanted to be number 1 in a team

bpc it’s pretty obvious in this dealing with gomis that this club ain’t in the wrong tbh!
if where to believe wat most media outlets have said including sky sports that we’ve agreed a fee and imo an extortionate fee for someone in his last year of contract it has to be another party who’s to blame for the holdup i.e either lyon, his agents or this marseille stuff that seems to have escalated!
    not us imo??

    @ manx

Don’t you find it strange every other club has done the deal within a couple of days with no problems, yet here we are 3 weeks later . Same with Debuchy last year, can’t just be a coincidence .

Just like Simpson, Best was replaced in January (though a year earlier), but couldn’t be sold in that window because he was injured. His replacement was Cisse. You can’t bring in the Best upgrade in Jan then also the Best replacement in the summer. One replacement/upgrade and it was Cisse.

The confusion seems to have arisen because many people refused to see Ba as Carroll’s replacement because he was brought in on a free and chose not to take over the number 9 shirt.

Regardless we started the relegation season with only two recognised centre forwards: Shola and Carroll. Then we upgraded to three in Jan when it was clear we would be promoted and could afford to pay that: Carroll, Best, Shola.

We started life back in EPL with that, then Carroll left and we completed the season with just Best, Shola.

Then we started the next season with Ba, Best, Shola.

Then January that season we had Cisse, Ba, Cisse, Shola (with Best hanging around injured).

We started last season Cisse, Ba, Shola.

Then Ba left and it wasn’t clear whether we were taking a risk on Gouffran as the third centre forward, with Cisse and Shola. Since Cisse was injury free we never got to see this put to the test, fortunately.

I believe we are now looking to make the three Cisse, Remy and Gomis. If that comes off then regardless of whether it is now or Jan, Shola will then leave.

yeah bpc but from the horses mouth this time he has said its more difficult and i believe its totally on there side i.e between him n lyon
the debuchy saga was us full stop we didn’t meet there asking price and then signed him 6 months to late thats simple
this is totally different we’ve met there asking price!
and terms if you believe the media and there president the hold up for me is defo the politics on there side?

  • 157 Sazzer // Aug 11, 2013 at 11:36 PM

Yeah Gomis in means Shola out most likely.

    Carroll, Shola, Best, Løvenkrands

    Cisse, Gomis, Remy, Gouffran

It is not obvious Gomis wants to come here. He preferred Marseilles according to some reports until recently. I think him and his agents are dragging their feet to see if Marseilles will bid for him.

May be he would prefer to stay in France, or more likely he can see that especially with Remy signed and the Wonga problem with Cisse resolved that he might not play regularly enough to make the French squad for Brazil. Was it only a coincidence that some of these problems only appeared once it was clear Remy was going to sign.

I suspect also once the club knew they had Remy “over the line” then there was some cooling towards giving into all of Gomis/Aulas’ demands. They have kept the option open, that he might still come at the end of the window. But by now Kinnear should have been talking to other options.

No problem with French or any other contingent but its always good to see local talent like Duimmett coming through.
