It’s never easy to know whether wages quotes in the media are anywhere accurate but if reports in Goal.com and French daily L’Equipe are to be believed Newcastle are starting to pay out some huge wages for their new players.
Bafe Gomis – getting £70K/week at Newcastle?
In L’Equipe last week it was stated that the wages agreed with French International striker Bafe Gomis were £70K/week – and that seems really high but Lyon President Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also said that was much higher than Lyon could afford.
So as far as Bafe Gomis goes – paying out up to €10M (£8.5M) and 70K in wages – it’s hard to criticize Newcastle for being willing to pay out that to get Bafe to Tyneside, although of course the deal has not been sealed – yet.
And news in GOAL.com that the deal Joe Kinnear agreed to pay QPR for Loic Remy is a £2M loan fee plus his full wages of £80K/week – the reason he turned Newcastle down in January for those huge wages.
Loic may face an upcoming rape trial so Newcastle were wise to take the loan deal first, although QPR tried to entice Newcastle to pay out only £5M to take him this summer on a permanent deal.
And while it may be possible next summer that other clubs come in for Remy, the fact that he once turned down Newcastle makes us believe he will not do that again and if all goes well this season then Loic Remy will become a permanent signing for Newcastle we hope that;s the deal in any case.
And we reported a few weeks ago that the average increase in money Premier League teams get form the new TV deal in £25M, so that around 60% of that – or £2M can go to an increased wage will.
And there is some evidence that Newcastle are loosening the purse strings just a bit to get their targets.
