Newcastle Starting To Pay Out Big Wages Again

11:05 am, Sunday, August 11th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 31 Comments

It’s never easy to know whether wages quotes in the media are anywhere accurate but if reports in and French daily L’Equipe are to be believed Newcastle are starting to pay out some huge wages for their new players.

bafetimbi gomis -lyon-2-buts_20735_w460

Bafe Gomis – getting £70K/week at Newcastle?

In L’Equipe last week it was stated that the wages agreed with French International striker Bafe Gomis were £70K/week – and that seems really high but Lyon President Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also said that was much higher than Lyon could afford.

So as far as Bafe Gomis goes – paying out up to €10M (£8.5M) and 70K in wages – it’s hard to criticize Newcastle for being willing to pay out that to get Bafe to Tyneside, although of course the deal has not been sealed – yet.

And news in that the deal Joe Kinnear agreed to pay QPR for Loic Remy is a £2M loan fee plus his full wages of £80K/week – the reason he turned Newcastle down in January for those huge wages.

Loic may face an upcoming rape trial so Newcastle were wise to take the loan deal first, although QPR tried to entice Newcastle to pay out only £5M to take him this summer on a permanent deal.

And while it may be possible next summer that other clubs come in for Remy, the fact that he once turned down Newcastle makes us believe he will not do that again and if all goes well this season then Loic Remy will become a permanent signing for Newcastle we hope that;s the deal in any case.

And we reported a few weeks ago that the average increase in money Premier League teams get form the new TV deal in £25M, so that around 60% of that – or £2M can go to an increased wage will.

And there is some evidence that Newcastle are loosening the purse strings just a bit to get their targets.

I’m worried about this season. We’ve yet again utterly wasted the chance and necessity to strengthen! It’s simply not good enough. Why should we put up with this?

1 injured player on loan!? It’s a bloody travesty! Not to mention absolutely no improvement on tactics, playing style and team dynamic. We were god awful last year and nothing has changed during pre season! I’m damn near sick of it, and I’m beginning to feel anger whenever I see or hear Pardew talk about anything, let alone Kinnear.

The entire situation stinks to high heaven and in rapidly losing faith, enjoyment and patience with all of it.

What the hell do we do from here? It’s obvious something collective and demonstrative has to be done in order to Induce change.

If NUFC have not got Remy on an agreed “Right to Buy” deal it would be an absolutely shocking situation.

It has been rumoured in a number of places that we do indeed have that built into the loan deal, but there has been no formal confirmation on any of it from NUFC.

What was the Communications Department for again?? lol

  • 7 Toonboy_84 // Aug 11, 2013 at 11:14 AM

    Going back to previous posts.

Never going to happen but how awesome would eto be?

If Fat Ash got him in and say, paid him 100k per week. The publicity it would create, shirt sales, the benefit it would have on our other strikers being able to learn from him……….

……Never mind. Was nice to dream.

I’m also still gobsmacked that Pardew allegedly turned down the offer of a new coach!? His arrogance is outstanding, how can he possibly stand there and watch international players play like drains week in week out and not attempt to rectify it?

I firmly believe he’s in the bottom 3 managers in the entire league. He’s a terrible terrible coach and should be nowhere near this club.

Have I missed something?? Has remy actually been charged and going to court? I was under the impression it was awaiting for a decision from the CPS, could somebody shed sum light on this for me please as the way Ed has put it he is going on trial at court.

I thought when we scraped to safety last season it was such a relief as we could now spend 30 million+ in the summer due to the new tv deal.

If we don’t bring another couple of attack minded players in then we truly have failed again. We shouldn’t bring anymore French players in. We need some steal and fight to mix in.

It’s a real worry when you look at what the 2nd tier teams are spending. Cardiff break their transfer record for the 3rd time to sign Medel for 11m!

So we offer this clown 70,000k but not demba a proven PL goal scorer?
    Astute business man my a**e!

of course nothing’s changed. it was fickle for anyone to think it would

i’ve felt like you with pards before, but the best is to just try to support the team, and hope for a decent start. i know that stings of negligence to a degree in ignoring what is glaringly the problem, but, MA should have disposed of him in january. he didn’t even do it this summer. if we get off to a bad start, he probably still won’t get rid. all it will do will p*** off the internationals and the good we’ve built will crumble away.

sad, isn’t it? yes, but at least allow yourself to be optimistic for the season ahead before potentially bad results and another write-off of a season comes to fruition.

  • 19 corkypants85 // Aug 11, 2013 at 11:28 AM

    Morning my fellow magpies

So no new signing’s but we did score from a corner last night or did i just dream it 🙂

Any way i was having my morning coffee when i came across this if i were joe kinnear i would pull out of gomis and match this bid if true.

15million for them two would be an imense bit of business

  • 20 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 11, 2013 at 11:28 AM

    @ tads

I agree m8 . Some people say never go back but I would welcome Ba’s return with open arms. He won’t get a look in at Chelsea.

  • 21 NUFCarter // Aug 11, 2013 at 11:29 AM

That may of been the tweeter who said he talked about NUFC transfer targets with JFK and Joe told him he was after ince sinclair gimis and a belgium he couldnt remember the name of.

The guy definetly met JFK because there is a picture of JFK with his arm around
him but its hard to believe they were talking about transfer targets. But like you said he is off to Belgium and France according to this guy.

  • 22 Yohan Kebab // Aug 11, 2013 at 11:30 AM

apparently its a 6ft 2 belgian striker who kinnear couldnt remembe rthe name of that we are after

  • 23 Geordie1 // Aug 11, 2013 at 11:31 AM

Had Ashley had any vision or want to progress he should of moved Heaven and Earth to of signed Pierre Emerick Aubameyang but he hasn’t and has no intention of signing anybody that could progess the team. Remy so we are paying his wages he was on at qpr we cannot change his contratual payment until we actualy own him this in my opinion is a complte FU.

  • 24 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 11, 2013 at 11:31 AM

I just don’t get it! 51 games and 29 goals and were like meh he’s not worth the wages

    Wow but this lad…..

  • 25 nut meg // Aug 11, 2013 at 11:32 AM

    Indian magpie @6
He should be in Holland to watch Dusan Tadic & 1 or 2 more in the Feyenoord V fc Twente game. Only my opinion.

  • 26 Indian Magpie // Aug 11, 2013 at 11:32 AM

France and Belgium are still in Europe

  • 27 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 11, 2013 at 11:33 AM

  • 28 Indian Magpie // Aug 11, 2013 at 11:34 AM

  • 31 puretoon // Aug 11, 2013 at 8:19 PM

Tommyy @3-totally agree mate! Howay lads! do some of you still think Ashley’s got ambition?? Good Grief! he’ll never spend big here, never be in CL either, contrary to what crap the hierarchy spout! The only way is to hit him in his pocket cos that’s where all nufc’s money is going! think how much Ashley’s pocketed since coming here?? and the tv money has increased so where the hell is it?? we won’t see any of it.
Personally I feel sick to the stomach having to pay to watch dross again with Capt Pardew lording it over everything like he knows what he’s doing. Roll on next Jan when I can cancel season ticket.
Enthusiasm for this next season? I don’t think so…
