Newcastle Manager Wants Two Strikers Brought In

10:05 am, Monday, August 12th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 38 Comments

Joe Kinnear told us eight days ago that Newcastle’s targets were Loic Remy, Bafe Gomis and Darren Bent and then Joe went into great detail about the status of each one of those situations, and he said we could sign Remy over the next couple of days.

Joe Kinnear - on the lookout for two strikers still

And Joe was right about that because we signed Loic on loan the next day – a week ago, but the Bafe Gomis deal is bogged down on his agents’ excessive fees and Darren bent seems too expensive.

We reported last night that Joe Kinnear was in Belgium checking on a young striker, and certainly Newcastle must now look to their B list of strikers and Alan Pardew still seems to want two strikers brought in before the window closes.

This is what Alan told the local papers today:

“When players are away on international duty, it’s difficult to do a transfer.” “I think there’ll be hardly any activity this week.” “All the managers will accept this is what they have this week, and will go with the teams they have.”

“They’ll look towards the end of the window, and look at the first three Premier League games and see if they need to make an incision in that market to improve the team.”

“I still think we’re light at the top of the pitch.” “It showed a little bit more against Braga. We have no Remy because he’s injured, but he’ll make an impact for us.”

“I still think it will be nice to improve that, but I don’t like to mention any player, but we’re in the process of finding an offensive player – or two.

The transfer window closes three weeks today, and if we can keep all out top players and bring in two good strikers, then we should have a top squad for next season, and be able to challenge for a top six position – but work still needs to be done by Joe Kinnear in this transfer window.

We hope Joe is working his socks off for the Newcastle cause.

  • 2 prashanth // Aug 12, 2013 at 10:12 AM

two offensive players … Sinclair and Gomis :)

  • 3 Greebol1892 // Aug 12, 2013 at 10:12 AM

Yes Remy will have an impact but as sub. Our no.23 is 2nd choice ahead of Remy but behind Cisse and always will be while Pards is here.
If Cisse gets injured, lazy shite amoeba will be 1st choice – regardless of any signings.

Remember, Pardew played strolla down the middle with Cisse right wing!

    Just inexplicable!

If Jonas is injured, we still have Sammy to supply the ammo for his brother against Man City.

Lyon/Gomis/Agents will all crumble in the coming days and we’ll get him in.

Sinclair or Ince would be nice as well.

Pardew wants to sign Barton and Suarez?

… we’re in the process of finding an offensive player – or two.

Is Joe Kinnery claiming to be an itk.

  • 8 Ben3arfa // Aug 12, 2013 at 10:14 AM

Personally I think Kinnear wont get anyone in .

He is running around like a headless chicken , has no clue what he is doing

  • 9 ToonDownSouth // Aug 12, 2013 at 10:14 AM

I wish Pardew would just tell it like it is.

He doesn’t have to slate Joe Kinnear or anything, but he could easily just say “It’s all down to Joe now, it’s his job.”

  • 10 lesh // Aug 12, 2013 at 10:15 AM

    Why wait until other clubs assess their squads and see if there’s a signing to be made? I wish these guys’d be a bit more proactive than reactive;

Message to Kinnear – get your finger out and players in!

    jazzyp,

I agree our owner is a ballbag and until someone comes up with the ransom money for the hijacking of our club I fear many of us will not be well. If we can help make it a successful prospect for a sale we may have to spend less on therapy. It’s a dream I have…

We are crying out for a creative player who can score goals. This clip shows you the man who can do both,I just hope they are looking at this guy. Dusan Tadic for fc Twente against Feyenoord yesterday. His 2 passes led to penalties ,he scored both of them,he also assisted 2 goals. Take a look.

How can so many talented players play so poorly match after match?

The answer has to be Pardew and his tactics.
Watch him cripple Debuchy and Santon instead of letting them cause the opposition problems.
We´re so rigid and static all the talent is being coached out of our stars.

    PARDEW FOR ENGLAND

    Greebol

Behave yourself man, shola playing is necessity not choice.

    Mindless pardew bashing -MPB

    Dan
I know Ashley is a tight arse but he is no mug
If he sells Cabaye surely he will buy a replacement and another striker is a certainty in my opinion
Might be right about another loan for a winger

  • 18 jazzyp // Aug 12, 2013 at 10:25 AM

    Indian magpie
I can see him going to scouseland myself as he has already been in contact with them. And Barca are chasing agger as well.Cracking player if they get him !!
Good news id downing is set for a medical at west ham today so thank god he aint coming here-Much better options out there imo

  • 19 gfp13 // Aug 12, 2013 at 10:27 AM

Well if he had went to Belgium he’s taken a step in the right direction for me. They seem to be producing a high standard of players and like most countries which do it for a small number of years and then fade back to not competing it won’t last long. Go in now and try and get a few of the up n coming Belgians

  • 20 Jamiemac // Aug 12, 2013 at 10:28 AM

    Need a left winger!

I’m happy for Jonas to play against the top teams but we need someone to tear up worse opponents!

  • 21 pawl250 // Aug 12, 2013 at 10:30 AM

I think Gomis will still come in all honesty.

I would prefer 2 other players for the price reported…. he is very average.

Would imagine you could get him for half price in January, Lyon cannot force him to sign a contract.

I think if it were me Wjnaldum and Shane Long would by choices to keep us going to Jan.

Then I would aim to buy Siem De Jong.

    Jazzy

Its on Twitter, he has opened informal talks with Monaco

  • 23 sexyirishtoon // Aug 12, 2013 at 10:33 AM

Pardew has as much info on what’s going on as I do. If he was a better manager I’d feel sorry for him. Also, wish Jonas would get homesick so we could replace him too. Santon, Ferguson, Sammy all deserve a chance ahead of him in his position.

  • 24 prashanth // Aug 12, 2013 at 10:34 AM

so… man city not in good shape after their pre-season and pellegrini apparently sweating over his squad’s preparations for the season ahead.

    nufc 2 , mcfc 1, anyone?

  • 25 jazzyp // Aug 12, 2013 at 10:34 AM

    Pawl
I think if spurs were successful in there pursuit of Alderweireld and Ericsson then siem de jong would reconsider his choice to stay on another season and look to move on now.
But again it comes down to ambition of the club bud im afraid.

  • 26 jimmysmith // Aug 12, 2013 at 10:35 AM

Seems a number of”name” pundits have us struggling or mid table, a-holes to a man, who don’t know jaksh@t about what’s going on at St James’.

  • 27 roy // Aug 12, 2013 at 10:36 AM

Hernandez of Man Utd and Ince are joining in the next few days.

  • 28 jazzyp // Aug 12, 2013 at 10:36 AM

    Prashanth
I like your confidence mate-would be a mint start to the season to turn city over in there own back yard

    No, you behave lad.

My point is strolla will always be in the first team as long as he’s at the Toon. I find it amazing that he’s ahead of Remy & Gouffran simply because he has PL experience. His scoring record is woeful as is his injury record. Would not make any other Premiership 1st team (of course that’s my opinion based on 26 years watching The Mags – and I’ve grown tired of his aimless wandering on the pitch, repetetive unnecessary fouling, numerous misplaced passes & scuffed shots, and informing us that he was going to fill Shearer’s boots. Fantastic penalty-taker though – one of the best we ever had!
And Sammy is still nowhere near the 1st team.

I will always support my home team regardless of the manager, however, our current manager has already proven to be tactically naive. I am certainly not a Pardew basher. Time will tell how far we get with him as manager and Ashley as owner. It’s their fault we are forced to play sub-standard players.

Anyway, there have always been players over the years who were not good enough so nothing really changes in the grand scheme of things.

  • 30 martoon // Aug 12, 2013 at 10:46 AM

Like others I find Shola extremely frustrating – he can be unplayable in one game and anonymous in the next. However I always feel the bench mark of how good you are is how you are rated by your colleagues & fellow professionals and in interviews other players are always full of praise for him. Now I know they aren’t going to slag him off but they don’t have to say anything either – so Shola must have something – it’s just that we can’t see it ;)

  • 31 nufc 11 // Aug 12, 2013 at 11:00 AM

Cant understand why we dnt try and get BA back the man is class you know what you get with him, we could end up with le sulk unkowns that could cause havoc, Defoe would be a good signing know what you get, read on the blog lst nite one fan inparticular was very concerned with the Braga prefromance, we had notting up, front or no one to supply the Strikers players playing like they didnt want to be their, no passion, if the players are mooping around its the managers job to get them up and at it John Carver needs to be replaced IMO love if a Tony Adams or Pat Veria type came in their to beef it up because if our team plays city with the additute of the braga game we are in big trouble……

  • 32 Wiz // Aug 12, 2013 at 11:05 AM

Joe @17 … Ashley is no mug, but we have to look at his record. He has taken us down once, and he almost took us down again last season. A series of panicky buys in January did just about enough to keep us up. He is a gambler, which is a good thing in business, but is highly dangerous in football ownership terms. He gambles by investing just enough to keep his income streams high. That means relegation would be a disaster, which is good, but winning the league would cost too much, which is bad.

  • 33 wynsleap // Aug 12, 2013 at 11:21 AM

Greebol1892 – You forgot to add that Shola is the only striker who is six foot two and jumps two foot six.
He takes mediocrity to the zenith.

  • 34 Owldman // Aug 12, 2013 at 12:18 PM

If as has been stated JK is in Belgium to buy a player, could it possibly be the who was blooged acouple of weeks ago from VVV Venlon who were relegatd last season, watched him on Utube ,& he does look special,

  • 35 Owldman // Aug 12, 2013 at 12:19 PM

Shouldread blogged, cant remember the name at present

  • 36 James RS // Aug 12, 2013 at 12:37 PM

Ashley knew what he was doing when he hired JK… he thought JK has got no chance of pulling off any deals so my money is safe. :) We are still waiting for him to buy the first player aren’t we … would you do business with him if you wanted to sell a player? No knowledge or professionalism need I say more.

  • 37 Shadow_Shearer // Aug 12, 2013 at 5:59 PM

Pardew wants two more strikers??? Since when will pardew get anything he wants at newcastle?? Its a case of Mashley tellin pardew put up, or shut up! And we all know which one he will choose.

Even two seasons ago, finishing 5th, only player we brought in was anita, what’s the chances now that he’s out of favour with the board

  • 38 Oleg G // Aug 12, 2013 at 6:22 PM

Well, we will always have Jonas.

But seriously. How difficult it is to get players in?
