Joe Kinnear told us eight days ago that Newcastle’s targets were Loic Remy, Bafe Gomis and Darren Bent and then Joe went into great detail about the status of each one of those situations, and he said we could sign Remy over the next couple of days.
Joe Kinnear - on the lookout for two strikers still
And Joe was right about that because we signed Loic on loan the next day – a week ago, but the Bafe Gomis deal is bogged down on his agents’ excessive fees and Darren bent seems too expensive.
We reported last night that Joe Kinnear was in Belgium checking on a young striker, and certainly Newcastle must now look to their B list of strikers and Alan Pardew still seems to want two strikers brought in before the window closes.
This is what Alan told the local papers today:
“When players are away on international duty, it’s difficult to do a transfer.” “I think there’ll be hardly any activity this week.” “All the managers will accept this is what they have this week, and will go with the teams they have.”
“They’ll look towards the end of the window, and look at the first three Premier League games and see if they need to make an incision in that market to improve the team.”
“I still think we’re light at the top of the pitch.” “It showed a little bit more against Braga. We have no Remy because he’s injured, but he’ll make an impact for us.”
“I still think it will be nice to improve that, but I don’t like to mention any player, but we’re in the process of finding an offensive player – or two.
The transfer window closes three weeks today, and if we can keep all out top players and bring in two good strikers, then we should have a top squad for next season, and be able to challenge for a top six position – but work still needs to be done by Joe Kinnear in this transfer window.
We hope Joe is working his socks off for the Newcastle cause.
