Newcastle Preparing Bid For Striker On “B” List

7:53 pm, Tuesday, August 13th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 312 Comments

There were rumors yesterday that Newcastle had bid around £8.5M for Belgian Intentional striker Jelle Vossen, so we put out a report on the striker, but there was no real news on Newcastle’s interest in the striker (so what’s new?).

jelle vossen 98

Jelle Vossen - £7M Newcastle bid for Belgian

It seems these days that either Joe Kinnear or Alan Pardew or both will speak out about the strikers we are interested in,  but silence from the two of them for a change.

The Daily News is reporting Newcastle will bid £7M for the 5’11″ striker this week, but maybe the 8.5M was in euros and that converts to around £7.2M.

And that seems a more believable fee, because he should come cheaper than Bafe Gomis, and we were going to pay over the odds in any case for the 28 year-old French International.

Here’s some information we put together on Jelle yesterday, and we assume he’s near the top of Joe’s B list of strikers:

He became a starter at Genk in 2008 but was loaned out to Cercle Brugge for the 2009-2010 season, and he scored 8 goals in 21 appearances there, and in fact over the last three seasons at Genk he has scored 65 goals in 110 appearances – not bad at all.

In his career at Genk he has 148 total appearances and 78 goals in seven seasons he’s spent there.

Last season he scored 14 goals in only 21 appearances for his club side, and he has played for all the Belgian Youth sides from U15 through U21 (8 appearances) and he’s played 11 times for the full Belgium side with two goals.

The news is that Newcastle have given up on Bafe Gomis, but we wonder if that’s really true – since we were so near to signing him and he’s desperate to join Newcastle – what do you think?

Comments welcome.

I think this one has already been discredited. No interest from Newcastle for Vossen? I saw it as a quote from a Danish reporter on another blog.

  • 2 jazzyp // Aug 13, 2013 at 7:57 PM

    Evening all
Felipe I like your optimism mate for the new season-keep it up

  • 3 Harley // Aug 13, 2013 at 7:59 PM

Anyone know anything about him? Is he fast?

  • 4 GeordieTwo // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:03 PM

It should be an interesting championship season. My early bet is that Watford, Blackpool and QPR will get promoted. I can’t see it for Wigan or Notts Forest. You never know about Wigan though and I think it was intelligent to appoint Coyle. He’ll be very ambitious to get back to the Prem and I think he’s a decent manager with a good attitude. He’ll have some of the money given to the relegated teams to work with as well. Ok, maybe I’ll change my prediction to Watford, Wigan and QPR :) Such is the value of predictions.

  • 5 Bearsize // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:05 PM

He was fast once he seen jfk comin towards him

  • 6 JackButler // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:06 PM

He’s not the quickest player around but decent enough

  • 7 jazzyp // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:08 PM

The operative word there is decent !!……which is what we are settling for once again.

  • 8 tekkers2402 // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:08 PM

Hasn’t this story already been dismissed. It started on twitter by some dick called “soccer sauce” which in itself tells you it’s more than likely absolute bollocks! Now the lazy tabloids pick it up with no real evidence he’s even a target.

  • 9 JackButler // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:09 PM

Didn’t expect anything else to be honest, for better than decent you have to pay good money or get lucky

  • 10 geordie157 // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:11 PM

just seen on skysports site about us refused 3 offers from Crewe for Inman. He’s refused to sign a contract, so he’s in limbo now.

Not sure how it works with out of contract players we can get compensation for, can’t we just put a sell clause in the deal.

  • 11 jazzyp // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:11 PM

I think we are going to be linked with every forward on the planet as everyone knows the dire state of our CF line up.

  • 12 Belfast // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:11 PM

I really like the championship. I’m actually giving that Bt sport channel a miss, because I’d rather watch the championship match, instead of boring premiership matches like Man Utd v Hull lol

  • 13 NUFC FOR SALE // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:12 PM

Got it on good authority from a club insider that Cabaye is gone. .. won’t tell me where to be he will definitely be gone by the end of the window with debuchy likely to follow.
We should have kept Simpson :(

  • 14 JackButler // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:12 PM

Why aren’t we looking at Shane Long?

He’s in the last year of his contract and would do a good job for us

  • 15 Belfast // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:13 PM

His agents already denied it anyway. So it’s bollox.
Just the virgins on twatter making stuff up as per usual.

It has been reported that PSG are readying a bid for both Cabaye and Debuchy

  • 17 JackButler // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:15 PM

  • 18 geordie157 // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:15 PM

Swindon are in talks with Nile Ranger

  • 19 jazzyp // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:18 PM

do you mind if I ask how old you are mate !!.
the reason being I am 40 years young and spent 13 month working around Swansea-Port Talbot-Neath and Fforest-fach.
We use to spend many nights in Swansea in a bar called Quids in on the roundabout then across to Ritzy nightclub-Oh the good old days lol

  • 20 geordie157 // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:20 PM

if true, wonder how much PSG would pay for Debuchy. I’m undecided on him, seems slow and dives in too easily, although Ivanovic was a bit like that at first for Chelsea.

I’d happily sell him if the price was good and bring in Corchia.

Guessing Van Der Wiel was a poor buy.

  • 21 JackButler // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:20 PM

I’m 38 years young mate and I’ve had many a good night out in Swanasea!!! I only live 5 mile’s from Port Talbot.

What kind of work were you doing down here?

  • 22 wynsleap // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:21 PM

Ashley’s hand is closed firmly over his wallet. We can wait for ever for signings but it ain’t going to happen.
Don’t know why he bothers having a football club but why should we be the ones to suffer?
The place needs a take over and a clear out from top to bottom.
Oh… forgot…. our books are balanced and there’s a 5 year plan. Yeah right!

  • 23 jazzyp // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:23 PM

I personally cannot see us selling Debuchy unless a massive offer came in.
Why would we have spent all that time and effort getting him over the line to flog him after just half a season.

  • 24 Sazzer // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:24 PM

Yeah they can’t be happy with Van Der Wiel. Jallet plays most games.

  • 25 Novocastrian66 // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:25 PM

Would anyone take Trippier as back up right back?

  • 26 NUFC FOR SALE // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:25 PM

Problem is we’re running out of time to bring in players as it is never mind having to replace more.
    I think we’re going to be sold….. Here’s hoping

  • 27 JackButler // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:25 PM

Debuchy has looked poor and out of his depth to be honest, hoping that he’s still settling in but he’s very rash and easily caught out of position

  • 28 geordie157 // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:27 PM

I like trippier, last season him, byram and brayford were the stand out right backs in the championship. although Byram also played right wing quite a bit.

  • 29 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:28 PM

Don’t forget this is Debuchy’s first season technically. I remember Collo & Enrique looking a bit suspect in their first season for us, and they turned out alright.

  • 30 Thump // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:29 PM

@geordie157: Is that so? I might owe somebody an apology, in that case… though can’t for the life of me remember who.

  • 31 Thump // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:30 PM

…regarding Ranger to Swindon, I mean.

    Sorry, been a long day!

  • 32 jazzyp // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:30 PM

I would say it was around 97to 99 I was down there and built a pub just off the m4 near a place called baglan……I think ??
Then we built a school at FForest-fach then on 2 units near the footy ground across from the main beach

  • 33 paul24 // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:32 PM

Anyone else starting to get the feeling our transfer buisness is done?.

  • 34 kilcline // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:32 PM

That would be me, i told you a few days ago Swindon were in for Ranger.

  • 35 check the toastie // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:32 PM

If Cabaye and Debuchy where to be sold it would rip the heart out of what is already fragile morale, we wouldn’t win another game with Pardew in charge.

So the question is, do I want Cabaye and Debuchy to go as it will quicken the demise of Pardew or is that really stupid. Think its stupid, yep defo stupid.

    Anyway Pardew OUT.

  • 36 JackButler // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:33 PM

Hahaha it’s a small world mate, my wife is from Baglan and my brother-in-law was the manager of that football club, Afan Lido FC who are in the Welsh League

  • 37 check the toastie // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:34 PM

paul24 – nope think we could still sell Cabaye, Debuchy and Cisse, would put nothing past this crew in charge.

  • 38 jazzyp // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:34 PM

    Big papa
Enrique was shocking in his first season like you say and ended up forming a cracking partnership with Gutti.
To be honest as soon as he was sold to scouseland Gutti has been on a downward spiral ever since.

  • 39 kilcline // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:34 PM

    @Jack Butler

Firstly, you are a great poster, always enjoy reading your views.

Shane Long would be a great signing, i would have gone for Vydra myself but hopefully Long might not be required now Brom have got Vydra.

  • 40 geordie157 // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:35 PM

yep, apparently Millwall and another championship side are also looking at Ranger, pending his court case result of course.

  • 41 Thump // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:36 PM

@kilcline: Ah yes! I knew it began with a ‘k’ but couldn’t remember if it was you or kevymartins for some reason haha. Ah well, sorry mate!

  • 42 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:36 PM

Like I reported earlier today, Lyon wants to off load Gourcuff, since the Gomis deal is off.

They need players off their books and Gourcuff is ready to take a wagecut to jump ship!

Cannot help thinking we were looking at the wrong player all along; lets go get Gourcuff :)

  • 43 geordie157 // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:37 PM

Shane Long is a good shout.

  • 44 kilcline // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:37 PM

No worries mate, i only post stuff that i hear on the grapevine.

  • 45 JackButler // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:38 PM

    Cheer’s mate, appreciate that.

Long would be perfect for us, he got great pace works his backside off and we all know that Ashley like’s player who contracts are running out. Also think he’d be a better signing that Gomis and probably cheaper

  • 46 jazzyp // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:38 PM

How mads that !!… you say a small world eh pal.
Like I said last night as well we go Trecco bay for holidays as well near porthcawl.

  • 47 Belfast // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:40 PM

They must be nuts the only place that tube is heading is jail.

  • 48 JackButler // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:41 PM

    You’re practically Welsh :D

  • 49 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:42 PM

    @ Paul

Unfortunately yes :( . Ashley, Kinnear & Pards sting us all along with bullshi* like : getting them over the line for us Geordies to lap up. At best I think there will be another striker added despite needing a left footed winger as well.

Nearly £60 million in TV money and our biggest sponsorship deal ever yet all we can muster is a player on loan that : a) we don’t even own b) may face jail time.

Words cannot describe how much I hate Mike Ashley and he is one of the few peoples deaths I would welcome.

  • 50 kilcline // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:43 PM

Think you find i broke Mbiwa news before anyone else as well ;)

  • 51 paul24 // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:45 PM

    @check the toastie

I meant bringing players in, as for Cabaye I think it’s a case of when rather than if. Havent heard any solid links with Debuchy or Cisse, though I did hear a Turkish side was after him but apparently it wasnt true.

  • 52 Ben3arfa // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:45 PM

Rumours going around that Kinnear is looking to revive a deal for former buddy Micky Harford ..

  • 53 JackButler // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:45 PM

The only work I can see Ranger doing is community service or working in the Prison work block

The kid is a total nut-case, he had the opportunity we would all kill to have and he’s thrown it all away. Did nothing but bring shame and embarrassment to this club and I’m glad we are shot of him.

  • 54 Belfast // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:46 PM

At least you’re better than Burnsie. His Itk career didn’t really work out for him

  • 55 MacToon // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:46 PM

Hey bloggers, I’ve had to get in touch with Ed and make him aware some nasty adaware/virus are using his site to get to your computers, laptops etc. This is part of the mail I sent Ed today:

“I must bring to your attention that in the last week I have noticed two unwanted AdAware .exe files hijacking your blog and installing themselves onto my laptop.
My antivirus, Avast picks up the unwanted files but they are still installed into my startup menu. A re-boot in safe mode allows me to stop the files loading on startup and then a scan with Malawarebytes allows me to quarentine said files.
I am aware you are ex IBM and probably know alot more about this subject than me but it is becoming a major problem and can’t help but think of the amount of pc’s and laptops that have been affected without the blogger’s knowledge.

    The files have been:
cmvtbqao a week ago and today
    priPrinter from Pelikan Software Kft.
I will post on your blog my concerns and try to make people aware they could have been infected by these or other such adaware/virus.”

OK, so if you know how to check your start up menus check and see if either cmvtbqao or priPrinter are in the menu.

Hopefully it’s just me and no one else will have problems but if your PC is running incredibly slowly there could be a chance you have a similar problem.

  • 56 nico // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:48 PM

Surely that’s rubbish about Cabaye and Debuchy. We can’t be that stupid to sell important players at this point. No way that’s true.

  • 57 jazzyp // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:49 PM

Evening mate-Wasn’t Torq credited with that one ??.
If we were not to bring in any more signings this summer, Then what is the point in Kinnear’s appointment as he has produced nothing for Nufc

  • 58 alext109 // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:49 PM

If PSG or any other big club came in for cabaye or debuchy they would need to offer quite a substantial bid for both of them to even tempt Ashley into selling.

If they were to go then I would just hope that Carr has a few people in mind that could replace them and sharpish before the window shuts. Though now that JK is in charge i doubt Carr would even get a shout, now that we have a B-list and more than likely a C-list.

If they were to go then my only preference would be to go after players in the PL or those who can get the job done with very little “bench warming” time, as per Pardews usual excuse for not rushing them into matches.
Maybe Hernandez from Man U, had 2 seasons in the PL and has proven he can score. Also from what ive heard he hasn’t made many appearances this pre-season, maybe not in moyes’ plans?

  • 59 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:50 PM

Kinnear has done jack anyway . Most of the legwork with Remy was done in January FFS

  • 60 paul24 // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:51 PM

    @Big Pappa Cissé

I know how you feel mate. From what i’ve heard AP and JFK are going to try and get Gomis in January when his contract has run down a bit and he’s available for less, but by then it will probably be too late for him have an impact. I just wish Ashley had the same desire and enthusiasm he has for SportsDirect with NUFC, we’d be bloody title contenders by now.

  • 61 wynsleap // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:53 PM

    Paul 24 @ 33 – did you not read post 22?

  • 62 kilcline // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:54 PM

    Hi Jazzyp

Not sure bud, maybe but i don’t know the poster?

I still want Ince to add pace and goals from midfield.
Shame we have a clueless coach in charge, on paper we are top 8 minimum.

He is too busy having a tommy tank over UFO’s.

  • 63 nico // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:55 PM

Would have to be 45-50 million for Cabaye and Debuchy.
Then we’d find replacements in Jan and hope we are not bad enough to be in the bottom 3 until then.
I however think morale may be destroyed and we’ll be bottom.

  • 64 JackButler // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:55 PM

I’m not that surprised by our lack of signings as Llambias said himself that we had accelerated our transfer policy back in January to bring in our long term targets because of our shocking league position, from there we have replaced Ba with Remy, albeit only on a loan deal, so I’d be very surprised if anyone else came in.

Kinnear can bump his gums all he like’s but i’m convinced that the only reason he’s here at all is to get shot of Pardew on the cheap

  • 65 nico // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:55 PM

Kinnear is a total idiot brought in to take the flack away from Ashley. To be fair he’s done a good job at that.

  • 66 Belfast // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:56 PM

Yes Mactoon my laptop keeps blocking ads on here over the past few weeks. I assume that’s what it is

  • 67 paul24 // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:57 PM

Man U have given up on Fabregas and Cabaye is on their radar now. Arsenal, PSG and Monaco have also been linked to him, he will end up at one of them, I reckon NUFC will sell him at the last minute aswell so they dont have time to bring in a replacement.

  • 68 Belfast // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:58 PM

Probably sell Cabaye with 2 days left. Not enough time to replace him etc etc

  • 69 paul24 // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:59 PM

    Just did now, agree entirely.

  • 70 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 13, 2013 at 8:59 PM

The only consolation at the moment is that we currently can field this team and bench:

    Subs: Elliot,Taylor,Haidara,Tiote,Guti,Marv,Gouffran

On paper that team could go toe to toe with any team in the PL and (if we are lucky with injuries) push for the Europa league.

However I hate the owners and our manager is clueless to boot.

  • 71 jazzyp // Aug 13, 2013 at 9:00 PM

Ince would be a better option than Downing who we were linked with, Thank god hes gone to the hammers.
I think personally Pardew is tactically inept with the foreign players and doesn’t know how to play to there strengths. That’s why pards is always asking for English players.

  • 72 kilcline // Aug 13, 2013 at 9:01 PM

I would flog Cabaye for £25m, Pardrew just doesn’t utilise him enough, rolls royce of a midfielder on his day.

    Spend that on:
    £8m Ince
    £7-8m Mccarthy
    £4-5m Mcmanaman

    Rest on wages etc.

  • 73 JackButler // Aug 13, 2013 at 9:01 PM

    Big Pappa Cissé

If Pardew saw that team you just put up he’d have a bloody heart attack, a starting 11 with no Saylor, Jonas or Tiote???

Has done a really impressive recruitment job has Joe, he has got a nice picture of him and Remy to put on his mantelpiece, well done Joe, good job. pfffffffffffttttttt.

We could drive some hard bargains on the old player exchange with PSG mind you. maybe we could have Ibrahimovic, sounds fair to me.

  • 80 nico // Aug 13, 2013 at 9:08 PM

We should be bringing in players like Sinclair, McManaman, McCathy, Ince and not letting anyone leave.
    This is ridiculous

  • 81 Tommyy // Aug 13, 2013 at 9:08 PM

I’m looking forward to the start of the season if only to see Pardew gone after we inevitably underperform. All I want to see is some fast, fluid football with some chances created. Don’t mind if we lose as long as we look good and are well in the game.

  • 82 MacToon // Aug 13, 2013 at 9:08 PM

Getting sick of it tbh Belfast but no idea if Ed can do anything about it. Will probably end up using google chrome for this site in future and hope they don’t infect me via there.
You can’t close them in normal mode via startup menu which is quite strange for such adawares and require a safe mode boot to stop them loading.
Windows 7 and InternetExplorer for my sins if anyone’s curious!

  • 83 Sazzer // Aug 13, 2013 at 9:09 PM

It’s hardly suprise if somebody comes in for Cabs. And if we are somewhat prepared to sell him we should have our replacement already signed up before we accept an offer. Or the other club will have to wait until January.

  • 84 nico // Aug 13, 2013 at 9:10 PM

Last season Cabs was obviously suffering from injury. He played lots of games but had to come off after 60-70 mins. He also missed plenty of games. A fit Cabaye is a class act 30 million if someone wants him. Don’t want to give him away.

    @ Tommy

I agree. Never have I seen an NUFC side create so few chances in games, its embarrassing considering the firepower we have.

He would rather play Gutierrez despite Marveaux having the most assists for us last season and not playing very often. But hey, I guess work rate means more. I don’t know about you guys but the first stat I would be checking from a “so called” winger wouldn’t be his work rate.

A team without Cabs and no replacement is a poor team with no creativity. If they brought in Ince, Sinclair and Hughes as replacement I’d say fine. They won’t replace him though which is worrying.
We have obviously brought in our one new signing (on loan) What was JFK brought in for??

  • 98 check the toastie // Aug 13, 2013 at 9:19 PM

scout – you have a point regards Cabaye, think he’s a decent player but I do think he is overhyped, I think 20million pound for him would be more than fair, as long as it is quickly invested, however we all know that wont happen. Kilclines hitlist looked perfect.

Personally I would use the 20 million on wages and compensation in trying to recruit a manager who actually knows what he’s doing. The manager is the most important person at the club.

Personally would go and get De Boer from Ajax, give him an 8 year contract and get a whole setup like Ajax’s mapped out. That’s what Ashley should be doing, but no he wont, he will limp along until he gets a buyer for the club, advertising his shitty business.

  • 103 Tommyy // Aug 13, 2013 at 9:22 PM

BPC – For me Pardew doesn’t have any confidence in himself, in addition to his lack of ability and knowledge that this is the biggest job he’ll ever get, leads us to a side that plays to try and not lose and loses any attacking flow or momentum as a result.

  • 104 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 13, 2013 at 9:23 PM

I don’t see why people want Cabaye sold. I have seen him run the show for France and boss the midfield for Lille. Yet he comes here, is played deep and looks average. Not to mention he was suffering from depression as well.

Ok, so we sell him for £20 million . Then what, has Ashley suddenly turned into a nice guy and spend the money immediately ? . Get real man, this isn’t football manager FFS . How long did it take us to replace Ba or Carroll ? .

Selling talented players that we already have is the ridiculous considering the way we are ran under Ashley.

  • 105 scout // Aug 13, 2013 at 9:25 PM

I’d break the bank and get modric, he was without doubt the best midfielder in the premiership at the time. His weight of pass is magnificent, like Pirlo. It sends a shiver down your spine, he has the ball on string

  • 107 paul24 // Aug 13, 2013 at 9:26 PM

Thats why I, and so many others, think all Ashley wants is to keep the team ticking over in mid table while he pockets as much of the TV, transfer, merchandising and advertising money as he can while leaving enough to pay the bills.

  • 108 colwell // Aug 13, 2013 at 9:26 PM

Why would we go after Vossen, he is the same type of striker as Cisse. We need a big guy, someone who can actually play as a target man, and do it well.

We play hoof ball constantly and yet have one of the smallest height squads in the Prem. If your going to play such tactics at least make sure the players fit.

  • 109 Tommyy // Aug 13, 2013 at 9:26 PM

Paul – Exactly, I just want them all gone. I’d give my left bollock for a return of 2000 – 2005. Every year those times creep away and we fade into mediocrity which will inevitably become our club culture and therefore our legacy. It’s horrible.

I know a lot of people on here blame the players and say they are overrated when things go wrong, but if you can’t see that Pardew is the problem then you are kidding yourselves.

On paper we are the 7th or 8th best team in the league. Yet we get turned over on a regular basis and get outplayed by promoted teams at home.

The best signing we could have made was a new manager IMO .

Just look at Wigan against Man U at the weekend . They looked nothing like they did under Martinez and just lumped it up towards Holt all game and they looked rubbish . And don’t say its because they have sold players because their side is pretty much the same . Why this sudden change in playing style ? , Owen Coyle. Route one merchant like Pardew and wouldn’t get a managing job outside the UK.

  • 130 gonufc (Release the Hatem Bomb) // Aug 13, 2013 at 9:47 PM

I think the one thing which sums up Ashley’s reason for ownership is when we played Atromitos at home. He had every single advertising board to “SportsDirect.GR” to get into that greek market.

It’s the simplest way to have his brand permeate the entire world. Even if people don’t care about Newcastle, as long as we are in the premier league whenever Man United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal etc. play us “SportsDirect” will hit screens in the USA, Peru, Israel, China, New Zealand, Brazil, Iraq, Norway etc. etc.

The league is so global that it’s incredibly easy advertising. As long as you keep the club in the league for minimum outlay it’s win win!

    ….Unless you’re a Newcastle Supporter that is.

Even when he does something outrageous like ripping sign’s down or getting Wonga as our sponsor, people are talking about us which leads to Mike Ashley which then leads to Sports Direct. All the while putting very little funds into the club and pocketing all the TV money.

Personally I hope he sells us then his company goes broke and he is left homeless. Then I can walk up to him and p*ss in his face as he begs me for change.

And yeah selling Cabs could possible be good thing if we brought for example Hughes + a more established 8-10 m £ player like Gourcuff, McCarthy, Badelj in to add to our midfield.

Add the money that we tried to get L.De Jong, Gomis and PEA with and we could buy decent alternative winger and striker as well.

Dortmund sold Götze for 30 m £. And they got PEA and Mktariayan in. They sold Kagawa and Sahin and bought Reus and Gundogan.

Yes, that immense free advertising and the debt that never gets repaid is the clearest example you could ever want of the books being massaged and massaged and massaged at Newcastle. It really is offensive to imagine the club somehow ethically or in practical terms “owes” Ashley the purchase price and debt.

  • 187 HullMag6 // Aug 13, 2013 at 10:42 PM

Cabs and Debs go Anita straight in Gosling as back up/change.

Santon to rb. Dummet lb as a possibility. Or yanga if not playing in the middle.

    Santon Saylor Colo Mbiwa

    Remy Gouffran

    Or attacking 3331 lol

    @ jesperfuglsang

He’s on a 130,000 euros a week, and from what i’ve heard Arsenal are doing away with the wage cap.

  • 189 geordie157 // Aug 13, 2013 at 10:43 PM

Rosenberg seems to have done enough pre season to earn a stay at West Brom, so him, Anelka and Vydra.

does seem like Long could be surplus to requirements.

  • 190 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Aug 13, 2013 at 10:46 PM

paul24…well then he is going to take a steep wage cut :D

  • 191 Sazzer // Aug 13, 2013 at 10:47 PM

I’m not sure Arsenal need Gourcuff. They have Cazorla and Wilshere, Rosicky at AM.

  • 192 jimmysmith // Aug 13, 2013 at 10:49 PM

I think Newcastle are now engaging in brinkmanship with agents and that is to be lauded as they bring little to the process other than driving up prices and wages that are already sky high. They are largely parasites and their clients in danger of becoming unconscionable opportunists. I’m delighted to see the club dig its heels in over this.

  • 193 paul24 // Aug 13, 2013 at 10:51 PM

Actually scratch that, he’s apparently on 400,000 euros a week and is supposed to be the highest paid french player in Ligue 1, I nearly s**t my pants with shock when i saw that!.

I’ve seen Anita play for Newcastle. No I have never seen him play for Ajax as I don’t care about Ajax.
Every time he’s played for Newcastle he’s been utter crap, rarely plays a forward pass, is very weak, rubbish tackler, can’t dribble, poor in the air and doesn’t score.

  • 197 paul24 // Aug 13, 2013 at 10:58 PM

That’s the song people are singing, i knew he was on big wages but jesus wept, that’s near enough £350,000 a week, no wonder they want rid of him xD

  • 198 Toon_Tom // Aug 13, 2013 at 10:59 PM

Nico – he is quality, still young, with bags of potential if given the chance

  • 199 Sazzer // Aug 13, 2013 at 11:00 PM

I don’t think Long will leave West Brom or why he would. He will sign new contract soon cause he can’t get any better than he already have it at West Brom.

  • 200 nico // Aug 13, 2013 at 11:00 PM

    Big Pappa Cissé

Don’t give me that rubbish that I’ve clearly never seen talent. Your right though, I’ve never seen any talent in Anita.
I do however see talent in a number of Newcastle’s players and players like Hughes, Sinclair and Ince would definitely improve us.

  • 201 nico // Aug 13, 2013 at 11:02 PM

I just can’t see Anita ever making it in Prem league. He needs to get back to the ease of playing for Holland’s only decent team against poor opposition, then he’ll be good.

  • 202 nico // Aug 13, 2013 at 11:02 PM

  • 203 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Aug 13, 2013 at 11:10 PM

…can’t see the likes off Monaco and PSG having a go at him!

  • 204 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 13, 2013 at 11:13 PM

    @ nico

He has scored the same amount of goals for NUFC as Tiote and has been herw half of the time. There ia no need to call him crap.

Yes he hasn’t looked like a world beater when he plays but he doesn’t turn on the edge of the box and lose the ball, pick up yellow cards for fun and he actually passes very crisply.

How is he meant to get any sort of momentum going from the odd start here and there ? , same with Marveaux. Anita qas our best player for a month straight at one point last season but was benched as soon as Tiote came back.

  • 205 Sazzer // Aug 13, 2013 at 11:14 PM

Where did you get those crazy numbers? The articles I have read says he’s on £80,000 or €100,000.

  • 206 nico // Aug 13, 2013 at 11:16 PM

    Big Pappa Cissé
You are comparing him to Tiote who also is not very good. I know that. Anita is not a defensive centre mid though. In fact I don’t know what he is.

  • 207 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 13, 2013 at 11:19 PM

    @ nico

I gues Ajax had it all wrong playing him there then. What do they know about football ? .

  • 208 paul24 // Aug 13, 2013 at 11:22 PM

I think there is a bit of confusion with his wages, some reporters and journo’s think he is still on the 400,000 euros a week Lyon paid him when he first signed, when he didnt live up to Lyons expectations (him being the new Zidane) he got a wage cut. I’ve checked and he is definatetly on 130,000 euros a week or 6.8 million euros a year whichever way you want to put it. And you where right, i shouldnt believe everything i see on the net, some of it is written by morons :P

  • 209 paul24 // Aug 13, 2013 at 11:26 PM

espn, i think i misread the article, but it was put together very poorly, but yeah, that was his wage when he joined Lyon, nearly fell over when i saw it. He’s on 6.8 million euros a year, which is about 130,000 euros a week.

  • 210 Sazzer // Aug 13, 2013 at 11:27 PM

That’s still a lot for us so unless he agrees on a hefty wage-cut but this crazy tax might have something to do with it him wanting to leave the country:

  • 211 Sazzer // Aug 13, 2013 at 11:32 PM

    I think Etoo has like £ 344, 000 a week though.

130,000 then he’s definitely out of our wages structure.

  • 218 Sazzer // Aug 13, 2013 at 11:41 PM

Anita have been playing his best in AM/Winger role for us. He DM work have been shaky so far.

  • 219 jimmysmith // Aug 13, 2013 at 11:41 PM

Anita, like Marv is probably suffering as a result of the side being second best in too many games. If as Pards would have us believe, unencumbered by the extra demands of Europe and with new players having acclimatized we might start to dominate play and then more technical players such as those may come into their own. Quite a lot of ifs in all that though, and as is, they remain peripheral first team players.

  • 220 Sazzer // Aug 13, 2013 at 11:41 PM

    His DM work…

  • 221 paul24 // Aug 13, 2013 at 11:42 PM

I think Anita is a good player, though he’d be better suited to a CM role than a DM one in my opinion, but thanks to Mr Pardew seeing certain players as guaranteed starters he’ll probably waste away on the bench before getting fed up and wanting a move somewhere else.

How long and what will it take for him 2 realise he needs 2 go get rid of pardew. How much more does he have 2 do wrong b4 he sacks him.

  • 232 paul24 // Aug 14, 2013 at 12:45 AM

    @ Shadow_Shearer

Would cost around £8 million to sack him i think, if he aint gonna spend that on a player he wont spend it on a payoff. That said Pardew seems to be the bookys favourite to get the sack this season, fingers crossed.

  • 233 paul24 // Aug 14, 2013 at 12:57 AM

  • 236 gonufc (Release the Hatem Bomb) // Aug 14, 2013 at 4:44 AM

    @soundoid – it’s spelt: ‘Kinnear Surprise”.

@Paul24 – The normal story on Pardew’s contract is that it’s 8 years but if terminated he only gets the compensation of one years money.

Well, Kinnear’s not exactly proved himself to be as brilliant as he told us he was. Every single target that we have (apparently) attempted to buy (PEA,Gomis, Bent (delighted we didn’t get those last two!), etc.) has failed except getting a player on loan from a team which was relegated!

And he sold Perch who had finally proved himself to be a handy DM! He was far better than Tiote last season!

Some might even say that he wasn’t particularly good at this role!

  • 237 gonufc (Release the Hatem Bomb) // Aug 14, 2013 at 4:48 AM

    (apologies for double post!)

I so badly wish that we could see the players which each person wants. I.e. who Kinnear wanted before and after talking to Pardew and how much he actually tried to sign players ( I mean why work hard on negotiations if you yourself don’t want? I mean it’s not like it’s your job….), Who Pardew wanted and who Graham Carr recommended strongly to buy.

I think it would be fascinating and an insight to what kind of players/ football these people really want or aspire to get.

  • 238 p // Aug 14, 2013 at 5:45 AM

    Cisse to arsenal?

  • 239 cyprus // Aug 14, 2013 at 6:10 AM

Maybe it’s time to assess the ‘revolution’. How successful has it been? Here are the revolutionaries. I’d say, only two have clearly failed in the UK, so not bad:

Yohan Cabaye, Moussa Sissoko, Hatem Ben Arfa, Yoan Gouffran, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Romain Amalfitano, Massadio Haidara, Sylvain Marveaux, Gabriel Obertan, Mathieu Debuchy and Remy.

  • 240 cyprus // Aug 14, 2013 at 6:33 AM

And here is my individual grading. I know many will disagree!:

Yohan Cabaye, 7 Much like AP, very good first season, very poor second. And, like him, needs to prove the hype.
Moussa Sissoko, 7.5 He has shown that he can be the new Toure, box to box, lot’s of energy.
Hatem Ben Arfa, 9. In the mold of Ginola, Robert. At last, a player NUFC fans crave.
Yoan Gouffran, 7.5. Much better than ‘we’ think. Fast, tricky, can score.
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, 8. I have been impressed. Quite fast, obviously very good.
Romain Amalfitano, No comment. Either Carr got it wrong or he is ‘wrong’.
Massadio Haidara, 7.5 Who would’ve thought someone would be pushing Santon so soon?
Sylvain Marveaux, 7 May be in the HBA calibre, still hasn’t proven it. Perhaps AP to blame, like Anita.
Gabriel Obertan, 2. Not good enough for NUFC
Mathieu Debuchy 7. You can see there’s so much potential in this player. I predict a good first full season.
Remy 8 Had a good showing with his old team.

And a general comment. Many complain about our five January arrivals. Here is my answer. It is rare that so many players come to the PL and hit the ground running. Given the circumstances (relegation struggle) they were (and probably will be) excellent.

As soon as Cabs and cisse and a.n. other player plus pardew go…then the money will start being spent.

Ashley won’t spend any money til cabs goes and doesn’t want to buy the players Pardew wants to buy because he’s going to sacked very soon…the club have pardews replacement waiting in the wings (not JFK) and they are going after the players the new manager wants

Next two weeks will see a huge amount of movement at newcastle and the price for Cabs has been set a 18 million which provides 13.5 million to buy players.

they’ll be no profit on Cisse and depends which other purple goes as to how much more money will become available

Thanks for that Sparks, keep us in the picture if you hear any more. I they replace Cabs my preference would be Dusan Tadic fron FC Twente or SDJ from Ajax so I hope there’s some truth in what you’ve heard.Any thoughts on a manager ?

  • 266 Premiership Manager // Aug 14, 2013 at 7:59 AM

Personally £15.5M for Cabaye isn’t a bad offer and will test Ashley’s resolve as we have more than sufficient cover in CM.

I’m not sure where people are getting info on Pardews contract as there are clauses, one of which is severance and rumour has it that it’s no where near the 8 years some are quoting and could be as little as one years salary.

The problem is if we sack Pardew, JFK will take over in the interim, until Ashley realises he is no better than Pardew. By then morale will be rock bottom and we’ll go into the Xmas transfer window with everybody trying to jump ship, any way they can. It’s not a good scenario and to be honest I’d rather keep Pardew if we can stay in the top half of the table.

I have a feeling the end of September will determine what happens at the club, if we are bottom 5 Pardew has to go.

  • 267 valle // Aug 14, 2013 at 8:04 AM

Sparky… Not many rumours have come off from any of the so called ITK’s on here. So most people including me are kinda guarded against stuff like that. But if you are gonna do it, do it right and tell us who you believe will come in instead of AP. Personally I have a hard time believing that, as it seems to me that MA will stick with AP.

@Cyprus, i have never read such utter tosh in my life.

And here is my individual grading – dont care
Hatem Ben Arfa, 9. In the mold of Ginola,- i didnt know either were festering
Yoan Gouffran, 7.5. Much better than ‘we’ think. – are these your ratings or ours
Sylvain Marveaux, 7 May be in the HBA calibre – deluded
Remy 8 – hasnt kicked a ball and is unlikely to any time soon.
This has nothing to do with this post either, what next suggesting players that you have come across in Football Manager 07? maybe time to leave that bedroom and venture outside

  • 281 Mister Tuff // Aug 14, 2013 at 8:51 AM

    Bedsmag77 you stated:-
“Newcastle are willing to pay up to £15.5million for Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye.”
Whilst there have been some strange decisions at the Toon -why are we buying Cabaye from ourselves.

  • 282 TorqToon // Aug 14, 2013 at 8:55 AM

Tuff – Bedsmag just wrote what SSN transfer Page has printed. Not his own link.

  • 288 Spartak Miserable // Aug 14, 2013 at 9:00 AM

    @Hungrier Than Cisse –

I must say I have to agree with you, it is quite abysmal.

  • 289 valle // Aug 14, 2013 at 9:01 AM

JFA… Hmm, that is actually the worst part. If MA ever sacked AP, one would suspect another manager disaster to come in and replace him. Would we ever get someone like Laudrup in? He would no doubt be moving to a bigger club, but would he feel that on his transfer budget nad would he work under those conditions? Its like getting all the added responsibility of a promotion, but without the perks.

  • 290 nut meg // Aug 14, 2013 at 9:01 AM

    Bearsize @ 278
Yes I seen that a day or two ago. It’s just a nice thought to have a front 3 like that.It could well be possible, who knows but we aren’t that ambitious. Two top notch creative players who score goals making a man like Remy chances by the bucket load…..i’m dreaming.

  • 291 Indian Magpie // Aug 14, 2013 at 9:01 AM

All i know is that he was on loan at EFC a few years ago and from what i remember did well.

  • 292 Steven // Aug 14, 2013 at 9:02 AM

The man is top drawer .direct ,great ball player, runs at defenders passes them with ease and top dead ball player

Tuff – Thought it was a good story. Copied it from SSN.

Thought it would put a smile on people’s face ????

    Cheers Torq

  • 294 Our Toon // Aug 14, 2013 at 9:06 AM

Morning Lads, have to say I’m very surprised at the amount of people on here saying sell Cabaye or take £20m for etc…..what planet are you people on, that money won’t be reinvested, once bitten twice shy comes to mind, can anyone on this blog honestly say that they believe the £20+ will be reinvested if he is sold? Stop living in a fantasy world, reality is that we will buy someone for around 5m-8m if we are lucky. Keeping our best players as other clubs i.e. Spurs/Liverfool have tried to do with Suarez and Bale is the only way of progressing not constantly selling your best players for cheaper downgrades.

As a club we have possibly 2/3 players who actually create chances (limited amount of chances) for the team and Cabaye is possibly the most creative player or 2nd to Benny and people on here saying they would find it acceptable for him to be transferred out, who is going to create the chances? Where is the creativity in the team? Wake up people stop buying into the phoney model of buy small and sell big.

People talk about Marveaux as if he is some fantastic play who unfortunately doesn’t get a game, the guy is poor at best and only ever plays well in small bursts hence being on the bench for most games (Pardew doesn’t get much right but with Marv he is spot on) as an unfortunate season ticket holder of 15 + years I had great hope for Marv last season (especially during pre-season where he was really good) but he is shocking (on par with Downing) I saw enough last season to prove this theory. Needless to say I have given up my season ticket until this MOB are out of our club, but we have to fight as fans to keep our best players as money will never be reinvested!!

  • 295 Mr Robson // Aug 14, 2013 at 9:06 AM

Hughes from Derby would be fantastic. He bossed the under 21′s last night. A very calm and composed, young ENGLISH centre mid.

  • 296 Rowan Milsted // Aug 14, 2013 at 9:07 AM

I’m not buying into the whole ‘Cabaye will definitely go’ story but whilst I admit it could happen it won’t be for £15.5m. If they won’t up the offer beyond that then hopefully it’ll kill the deal off… if any of it is even true that is.

I really don’t see us selling Debuchy, jot after the rigmarole we went through to get him such a short time ago. Imo we won’t sell either of them this window unless a ridiculous offer comes in a la Carroll. I could be wrong of course… I’d be furious if we did.

    Manuel Fernandes > Cabaye

  • 299 Mister Tuff // Aug 14, 2013 at 9:14 AM

Bedsmag/torq – cheers- thought it might have been a new ploy by the Toon to confuse us -buying our own players.
I do not like this apparent increase in speculation about Cabaye leaving – I’m wondering now if there is mileage in the story – but with some of the fees quoted I revert back to the “no chance” position.

  • 300 Jail for Ashley // Aug 14, 2013 at 9:15 AM

Yes it’s unthinkable that this regime would sell a player without a better replacement lined up !

  • 301 Indian Magpie // Aug 14, 2013 at 9:15 AM

May Be Toon are spreading this news about cabaye to stop fans clamoring for new signings.

  • 302 TorqToon // Aug 14, 2013 at 9:17 AM

Nothing concrete as ever. But seems it was correct when I said I’d heard they are looking at Belgium over France now. It’s a good idea in my opinion as I feel we have exhausted France and they have inky a few players who we are interested in, who could feasibly arrive.

Will we get alderwield?! I don’t think so, purely because the player wants a club challenging for Europe, and regards himself too highly for a club like us.

  • 303 hungrier than Cisse // Aug 14, 2013 at 9:19 AM

    Many thanks

  • 304 Tommyy // Aug 14, 2013 at 9:35 AM

Anyone read Pardew’s comments this morning? Biggest hint yet he reads these blogs, talking about formation debate.

Alan, if you’re out there, sort it out! It’s all well and good saying we need to do X, Y and Z yet it never happens!

  • 305 pawl250 // Aug 14, 2013 at 9:38 AM

I do not think we will get Alderwield, I agree with Torq in the sense he values himself.

Why would he come to a club to sit on the bench, or have the potential too?

Its all well and good saying “When Colo leaves”, but that could be a couple of years away.

He wants first team football to play for Belgium in the World Cup, and who can blame him, they have arguably the best chance they will have EVER to compete in the upcoming tournaments, maybe the next 8 atleast given the majority of these amazing players are around the age of 23.

He will not want to jeopardize that. Personally I feel Mbiwa is a better player, he reads the game amazingly well and is born leader. Would I dream of and Alderwield, Mbiwa partnership, yes please but while we cannot provide Alderwield the amount of guaranteed first team football and we finished bottom half, he will simply do the same as he did to Norwich…. blank us!

You think otherwise you must be blind. Footballers are human, he has no allegiance to Newcastle like you, so ask yourself, in his position would you aim a little higher? If you are honest you would say yes.

  • 306 lochinvar // Aug 14, 2013 at 9:41 AM

One of the TV presenters last season talked about how all the best clubs had a central spine of players from front to back.
So if we go Krul – Collo/Mbiwa – Cabs – Cisse/striker then we have a strong spine. A fit Cabs is influential and creative so we need to keep him. Just frighten off other clubs with a ” not for sale at any price” ( or less than £35m ) – at the moment it’s working for the bindippers/Suarez, Mancs/Rooney and Spuds/Bale so we should do the same. MA and JFK just need to put the icing on what is potentially a very good cake – just add some extra class striker and watch the team and fans confidence grow.

  • 307 jayphoto // Aug 14, 2013 at 9:44 AM

Doubt Pards reads the blogs but i’m pretty sure the clubs fans or press relations read some of the big ones!
Pardew irritates me in how he constantly undersells are club! We have 50,000 each week, and it ain’t cheap to go, i work all round the world and i’ve never been to a country/city and not seen a toon shirt somewhere during my time there, we are one if the only clubs that took a profit last season, so why can’t we compete with the likes of swansea etc?? We should be roughly around Spurs in terms of spending and budgets, very similar sized clubs! Pards talks as if we’re wigan or Hull! (Both of whom have outspent us this summer so far) makes me wonder how Ashley has got the financial side of the club set up? He may take very little out but does all the money that comes in go into the club or into other set up businesses?? I know the money from matchday food is its own business! As is money from the club shop! Means it doesnt appear on the club finances as its seperate businesses

  • 308 lesh // Aug 14, 2013 at 9:45 AM

Read somewhere yesterday that Alderwield could be on his way to one of the Moscow clubs which has or is about to put in an offer for him.

  • 309 pawl250 // Aug 14, 2013 at 9:46 AM

We need a striker, I agree, who would you go for?

Personally a dream window would be

    Wjnaldum, Alderwield and De Jong

If I had to be realistic I would imagine

    Wjnaldum, Long

If we can get them over the line, through the door, in the pot, or whatever …. we have a decent squad.

Alderwield I would love, but would not come, my opinion as stated.

In January go for Siem De Jong.

  • 310 investinyouthtoon // Aug 14, 2013 at 10:26 AM

Strange thing is regards other teams outspending us, I believe even Boro, Forest and a few other championship clubs have outspent us. Its not like were even asking the club to spend 20, or even 30 million on players. But its even rumoured that Ba has been linked with West Ham, and we aint even gonna test the water….FFS

  • 311 gazzaforever // Aug 14, 2013 at 3:42 PM

Markaccus, my bad, i read it again,

  • 312 usmagpie // Aug 14, 2013 at 5:50 PM

Sorry ED, I have to call bullshit on this one. If we are putting around 8.5 million for this kid why did that number not get us Gomis?? Even if the agents wanted a little more the Gomis deal would have been less or around the same number. I just think Newcastle are going to screw up this season again and panic buy in January, sorry isn’t this a rolling story line for Newcastle United. Every other prem club has gone out and bought who they want, Newcastle however tell everyone who there after and we don’t get them because our idiot higher ups cannot keep there mouth shut. Its looks like Graham Carr works for every other prem team. Why does Newcastle never learn to keep its cards to its chest and not tell the world how fantastic our scouts are and the players they watch. Its like having Forrest Gumps family on the board.
