What Do Newcastle Do With This Player This Summer?

2:00 pm, Tuesday, August 13th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 121 Comments

With Yohan Cabaye maybe leaving Newcastle towards the end of the transfer window, we are wondering what Newcastle will do with Dan Gosling this summer.

dan gosling wonga st mirren

Dan Gosling - had a great game at St. Mirren

Gosling’s shown some good form in pre-season, but the former Everton player has only one year left on his four-year contract, since he signed as a free agent from Everton in the summer of 2010.

Dan will become a free agent next summer, and he’s unlikely to be offered a new deal at Newcastle, so it wasn’t surprising Newcastle were trying to sell him this summer,  and of course he almost joined crystal Palace a couple of weeks ago.

But with Alan Pardew saying yesterday he’s a little worried about losing Cabaye at the last moment this summer, maybe it would be a good move to keep Dan on the books, at least through January.

If the nightmare scenario happens and Cabaye leaves – say on the last day of the transfer window for a massive fee – and we don’t have time to replace him, Dan could help fill the gap left in central midfield at least until January.

And you never know with more games in the Newcastle first team,  it may give Dan a chance to show what he can at the club, because he’s had precious few chances in a black and white shirt.

And when you don’t play as Alan Pardew has admitted today, it’s really hard to come in and impress without previous playing time.

It seems to us it would be wise if Newcastle keep Dan on board this summer.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

New third kit worn by U21′s last night

Ed, I’ll tell you what you do – you plan ahead.

…Lets say there is a possibility Cabs might leave if a club meet our valuation then Newcastle should be scouting his replacement already and maybe even bring him in this window.

As for Gos – I like the kid, but I don’t think he will get much playing time and with his contract running out I would try and find him a new club.

There are no guarantees in football all you can do is plan ahead! We don’t do that ’cause we are amateurs!

  • 3 Thump // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:07 PM

The third kit doesn’t look too bad, actually.

  • 4 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:11 PM

Manx…your link don’t seem to work. Here is another:

    http://www.nufc.co.uk/articles/20130813/nufctv-reading-u21-highlights_2281670_3347156

For me there are too much black in it – maybe it would have worked better if the the socks were blue or something?

  • 5 croftus5678 // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:18 PM

no matter what we think of gosling he will get goals from midfield and prob more than cabaye/marv !

he’s much like nolan in that respect that he’s always looking for that run into the box (which tbh we dont have in our first team)

if we lose cabaye then imo we dont need a replacement i’d play siss/anita with bigi/tiote/marv/gos ready to change things around.

gos would be one to keep imo as he’s something different to get a goal or 2 from the bench.

  • 6 Ibizatoon // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:19 PM

What to do, what to do?

Hide him and bring him out Sept 1st as a new signing?

Tbf to Gosling, I think he is alright and given a few games could prove a few doubters wrong. Not saying he’s great, but an alright Guthrie replacement? Probably.

So what is this on Cabaye? More of the same of has there been further developments?

On the new kit…Seeing as it’s yellow…not too bad at all.

  • 7 Girth // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:20 PM

“With Yohan Cabaye maybe leaving Newcastle”

And maybe he won’t? Seriously getting bored with the negativity around here, its always doom and gloom, I would wager a bet that there hasn’t even been any contact with the club.

We really need to stop reacting to every bit of speculation. How about talk about on paper, we’ve got probably our best starting 11 since Sir Bobby?

  • 8 croftus5678 // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:22 PM

    @6 ibiza

think our fans are just worried by pards comments in an interview we just had ! and tbh it did sound like pards thought he would be leaving and that it will be hard to find a replacement in the short time left.

  • 9 jimBOB // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:23 PM

im a fan of Gos, I know he hasnt featured nearly enough but theres something about him I like, he has a good touch and works his arse off which is more than I can say for others at the club, sameobi got alot about him bit he is showing sign’s of Lazieness at times.

might be worth hanging onto the lad and just see what he has to offer this year.

  • 10 Ibizatoon // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:25 PM

Croftus…Is it one of Eds previous articles?

Anyway, I’m fairly relaxed about Cabaye as it is an area that we’re actually pretty covered in. Plus, I have no doubt that we’d get fairly decent money for him and that Ashley would be willing to throw it straight back in on a new exciting player…ha.

  • 11 croftus5678 // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:29 PM

    @9 ibiza

tbh buddy i cant remember the source but i’ll run back through them to find out.

i’m sure it was an interview with pards though tbh not an article on but i’ll let you know when i find it so you can take a look.

  • 12 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:29 PM

Ibiza…I see I smoked you out of the office? ;)

…regarding Cabs I just think it’s peoples worse fear that he should leave – there haven’t really been any indication of it happening!

It has been really quite today; I am not sure I like it to be honest. Something is cooking up! hmm

  • 13 Ibizatoon // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:31 PM

Croftus…That is very kind, thank you.

Just interested to see if it’s the normal Pardew covering his backside after the AC sale or whether there is actual reason to think something is happening?

jimbob…Unless we’re clearing space to bring in better players then I too say keep him. For what we’ll get by selling him I’d rather just run down his contract and have his as an option and give him another chance to impress. But would he come before Bigi, as he has really impressed me when he’s featured and maybe Gosling could hold him back somewhat?

  • 14 Jail for Ashley // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:31 PM

Just shows the complete lack of planning or thought at the club that we are even discussing this.

  • 15 Bearsize // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:33 PM

Why dont we just say not for sale if it is last minute and we dont have a replacement? Ah yes so MA can pocket the cash and not have to spend. Sorry i hadn’t thought it through lol. Perfect scenario, we get to pick a couple of psg’s players in exchange but that would mean MA not getting his bit to launder coz he is a crooked fat fu!k. Hehe wild accusations but i dont care anymore!! Until he shows ambition he is in my crosshairs :)

  • 16 Ibizatoon // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:34 PM

    Jesper…You certainly did :)

Thanks for the info. I fear with any of our better players this will always be the case and whilst the club are “performing” like they currently are it doesn’t help the speculation. Even our own fans are saying “well, could you blame them for wanting to move on…”

    Inspiring stuff! :)

As for it all being quiet, it could be good news. That’s the problem with our club, when they are active they’re generally pretty quiet…but they are quiet too when they’re doing sweet f.a.

    Still, there is more time.

  • 17 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:36 PM

Jean-Michel Aulas is now trying to get Yoann Gourcuff to Arsenal since the Gomis deal to us is dead in the water. He is saying Gourcuff is willing to take a wage cut, but we had to pay Gomis more than Lyon wanted! hmm!

…okay then lets go for Yoann Gourcuff then :D

  • 18 croftus5678 // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:36 PM

    @12 ibiza

    heres the article i read

    http://www.sportsvibe.co.uk/news/football/newcastle-will-find-it-hard-to-replace-cabaye-says-pardew-27203/?

not sure how realiable sportvibe is but its the ” markes that made me think it was a real quote.

  • 19 Ibizatoon // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:39 PM

Croftus…Thanks for that. I think I read that interview a few days ago, seems they have just re-jigged it around to make it sound worse.

He may well be going this summer, but imo, that article has made it no less or more likely.

  • 20 jimBOB // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:39 PM

ibiza – in regards to him vs Bigi, I would go with Bigi, but knowing the toon Injury record and the fact we still place faith in Jonas I would have him up and down the Pitch for 20 mins at the end of certain games. the lads got goals in him and if AP keeps his much loved 4 – 5 – 1 mentality we will need all the midfeilders we can get.

  • 21 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:40 PM

Ibiza…thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to come on here and keep me company :D

…it’s has been so boring on here today! lol

    * So what is going on on your side? All work no pleasure? Did you find any where you could enjoy a cold Köstritzer on that island of yours?

  • 22 croftus5678 // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:41 PM

i’m up for signing one of these young belgian lads tbh ! through pure blind hope that every belgian striker thats come in is a star in the making lol.

secretly hoping we sign ince though tbh its not too often we get a young english lad who is more than likely to be on par with other international players.

  • 23 Ibizatoon // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:41 PM

jimBOB…Knowing Newcastles injury record, whichever position we have cover in will be the position we lose no players in :) But I get what you’re saying.

Right lads and lasses, until later, have an enjoyable afternoon.

    Joe…Go get us some players!

  • 24 northernirishtoon // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:42 PM

    Wow

What a preseason this has been

Just when there was a chance to really show ambition.

What we have witnessed this window is a lack of organisation, a company run by chimps, a lack or respect to the fans, a man who can’t even pronounce the players names in charge of bringing players in, more lies and manipulation from our manager, a scouting network which has lost all credibility etc etc etc etc

Just when there was maybe a small chance to win the fans over, I think it has now gone way beyond the line and there will be no turning back from alot of fans now on this regime.

The joys of supporting Newcastle united

  • 25 Ibizatoon // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:43 PM

Sorry Jesper….Have to run. Will catch up with you soon…definitely the scale of work and pleasure is off…going to have to take a look at that sometime soon.

    Take it easy.

  • 26 croftus5678 // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:45 PM

    @18 ibiza

ah kk i hope so the press do have a habbit of twisting things :-)

and ye bigi is great and should be a realistic hope for us of being an england international (and about time we had one of those)

i would stick him as tiote’s derect replacement tbh (even though theres more to bigi than just defending and he’s not as good as tiote at defending) but i think there more chance of playing time for him there with tiote getting suspended for half the season ^^

  • 27 Clematis // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:49 PM

I think we should keep him. Although our pre season opposition has been poor, Gos has played the #10 role effectively when given the chance. Him and Bigi should be given prominent roles in the cups and the p!ss poor teams in the Prem i.e. Palace, Cardiff and Hull (the sh!t that came up from the fizzy).

  • 28 Clematis // Aug 13, 2013 at 2:58 PM

Bit off topic, but if we don’t sign anyone else, I think most teams would salivate at being able to stick this team out:

    Krul

    Debs – Mbiwa – Colo – Santon

    Sissoko – Anita

    Ben10 – Cabs – Remy (when fit)

    Cisse

    Subs:

    Taylor, Dummett, Marv, Gouff, Tiote

  • 29 Rooster // Aug 13, 2013 at 3:00 PM

He has not shown a bean for the toon even when hes had a chance, been pixkin wages up for nowt as far as i can see. Will he get another chance? Not bothered.

    Gosling Out

    Pardew Out

  • 31 croftus5678 // Aug 13, 2013 at 3:06 PM

    i would go

    ——————krull——————
    debs—-mbiwa—-collo–santon
    ———–siss—–cabaye———–
    arfa——————————guti^^
    ————cisse—remy————-

guti has learnt how to get to the byline and cross in pre season so i’m hoping he carries it on while we dont have a lw apart from sammy to choose from atm.

  • 32 terencelim // Aug 13, 2013 at 3:07 PM

Stick with Tiote anytime. I’ve no idea why Bigi is highly rated. He hasn’t really shown anything yet, couldn’t hold the ball well and kept on back passing, reminds me of Jenas but probably worse.

I hope I’m proven wrong by end of season.

  • 33 eaststandgeordie1982 // Aug 13, 2013 at 3:12 PM

Anyone know the score from today??

  • 34 Spartak Miserable // Aug 13, 2013 at 3:13 PM

This article does not require ”best 11” selection. These ”selections” are starting to creep up (very annoyingly) on every story on here. So yes, it is off topic, as usual with people on here. Perhaps it is best picking ”best 11” teams for acticles that do require such a comment. I fail to see how picking a starting lineup has anything to do with what this article is about (Dan Gosling). P.S Based on the performances of some of those players last season, I would hardly use the word ‘salivate’ – Get in the real world and accept we will finish no higher than 8th or 9th – at best.

  • 35 cestriasteve // Aug 13, 2013 at 3:17 PM

Don’t want to be a conspiracy theorist but Cabaye’s going the same way as Carroll and we won’t be using the money until Jan when we will get Gomis on a free.

  • 36 Sazzer // Aug 13, 2013 at 3:17 PM

I think we need to win the battle of Will Hughes and this is the window to get him. His price will double before winter window comes along.

  • 37 Scottiedog // Aug 13, 2013 at 3:19 PM

Gosling really is the only attacking Cental midfielder we have that gets in the box, Marv, Sissoko, Ben Arfa like to go wide & Cabaye sits back to play in the pass. IMO we need to keep the likes of Vukic & Gosling as an option as we have not had this type of player since Nolan left.

RE: Bigi – anyone slating him obviously does not remember his Coventry days!! He will be a star for the future

  • 38 toonthompson // Aug 13, 2013 at 3:20 PM

    Spartak miserable.

Perhaps if the blog wasn’t formulated in such a tabloid way, there wouldn’t be the need for comments to be so random.
Due to the frequency and repetitive nature of ed’s posts it is impossible for people to stay on topic…

  • 41 croftus5678 // Aug 13, 2013 at 3:37 PM

    @33 spartak

i dont see what it hurts to do this tbh !
and how does it hurt anything or anyone ?
the blog is for fans and theres no rule that you can only talk about the one topic posted ! its posted to get fans interactive in a debate and to discuss our team.

  • 42 count // Aug 13, 2013 at 3:39 PM

Also difficult to stay on topic when some people never shut the fook up. It always goes back to twittering on about Ashley.

and people said our squad is not as strong as last season hehe surely this result proves were stronger >.<

  • 45 VanToonMan // Aug 13, 2013 at 3:47 PM

I just don’t understand how Pardew Kinnear and Ashley can’t see that we finished 16th last season and have lost 3 players this summer therefore need a good 3-5 players to add to our squad. If they do see that then why has it not happened?!!!

    My team for City:

    ——————————–Krul————————————-

    ——Debuchy——–Taylor———-Colo———Mbiwa——

    ————–Sissoko——-Tiote———Cabaye—————-

    ———Ben Arfa———–Cisse———-Gouffran————-

  • 47 Dearka // Aug 13, 2013 at 3:51 PM

  • 48 Spartak Miserable // Aug 13, 2013 at 3:52 PM

I didn’t say it hurt did I? Mearly pointless would be what I would say it is – but as you said it is open for fans to debate, and my side of the debate is that, its to a point, laughable that everyone pretty much posts the same team over and over and over and over again (abreviating the names, which is also annoying – ben10?? which utter clown things this sounds good, seriously??) – tedious would be the best way to describe it.

Anyone can pick their best team based upon who is the best players in the squad, it isnt hard really is it? Hence why we dont need reminding of it every half hour when someone decides to tell us all

@Count – Fair point – some of these articles are just pointless patter, it makes me wonder if they are just made up cos there nowt else apart from ebarrasment at the club to talk about atm.

  • 49 Jamiemac // Aug 13, 2013 at 3:53 PM

Twitter’s saying we had a very strong team playing. This was Liverpool’s 2nd half team:

I hope the Gomis transfer saga doesn’t turn out to be a repeat of Debuchys, where we fail to get him in the summer and then wait until January where we can screw Lyon down on the price. The more I think about it the more i think this will happen, Ashley will sacrife the first half of the season in order to save us a few more pennies and leaving us short up front

  • 62 Pokat // Aug 13, 2013 at 4:05 PM

So is Cabaye def going now?

  • 63 VanToonMan // Aug 13, 2013 at 4:06 PM

Thanks Check. I was considering Anita but I think with it being City away…need more physical strength in the centre of the park against Yaya and co – Tiote and Sissoko give us that…Anita is a little lightweight. I would probably sub Anita on for Cabaye at some point during the match.

Gouffran and Marveaux is a tough one – but either way…Ben Arfa and the other winger…need to be hugging the touchline….giving us proper width…especially at Etihad stadium.

So by the sounds of it, we’re quite prepared to shop in the winter window and each and every year cock up our season. Nice going.

  • 81 joeinthecheapseats // Aug 13, 2013 at 4:47 PM

Geordie mine came Saturday but kids got theirs about ten days ago

  • 82 Pokat // Aug 13, 2013 at 4:47 PM

@74 – and yet you are on here, complaining. How does that work ha ha. The solution is in your own post methinks. Only with .org and .co.uk you have to read through EVERY post to keep up with the thread and that has its own problems.

@73 No. Despite what many say, Jonas G is still a valuable member of the squad, plus I don’t go in for celebrating players not being available through injury. Not being funny or racist like but just about every poster from what appears to be the Indian continent likes to slag our players or manager off. Do they get different news articles out there, or are they simply more objective? :)

  • 90 Pokat // Aug 13, 2013 at 5:00 PM

Well I dont want to start throwing petrol on the fire, but Cabaye came back on the pitch after the Braga match especially to applaud the crowd. Nice of him to do that but a bit suspiciously keen.

jesperthingy – it was a close call its only because my mate at school was a bit retro and loved the beatles and missed few opportunities to play stuff by them.

  • 93 martoon // Aug 13, 2013 at 5:03 PM

GEORDIE BLOGGER @72 – I asked the same question yesterday and it seems people started to receive them from Saturday onwards but I haven’t got mine yet. But looks like they are sending them out now so hopefully they will arrive in the next few days – mind you they weren’t slow taking the first direct debit on the 1st of this month ;)

I read on nufc.com it was gosling who got our goal not campbell. Cant see that our team was that strong considering the amount of internationals out.

  • 99 jimmysmith // Aug 13, 2013 at 5:42 PM

yes, they do, and they’re coming to the toon in less than ten days to show us how good. that is not an easy game by any means.

  • 100 Rooster // Aug 13, 2013 at 5:55 PM

Jail, I hate the bull that has been spouted this transfer window regarding signings, goalposts keep getting moved etc, everyone wants the best deal possible, and the news that AP has said the club are now already looking at the January window nearly sent me over the edge ha ha, mainly because I thought we would have maybe three in, in the first three weeks at most of this window.

I have to say watching the league cup show the other night and seeing wolves, pompey Blackburn, leeds, boro, all playing and struggling, it isn’t all doom, but that does not mean we should have to fcuk on like this all the time, and I know you don’t like those other clubs mentioned, but there is still things that are right concerning NUFC, I will big up the good things, financial stability, decent players IMO but need a few more, Crap tactical manager and coaches, cannot stand them, so im sort of split, but im glad we are not playing in the first round of the league cup and that sort of thing, double edged sword isnt it, and I will say it how I see it and not just blindly back something because I have in the past.

Im still ok with the tenure but these windows boil my piss, so im a bit split down the middle at the moment. and I don’t mind admitting that. ive got broad enough shoulders!!!

  • 101 isleofmanman // Aug 13, 2013 at 6:13 PM

    Point well made

Dan has never been given a chance. Letting him go isn’t an option if Cabaye quits

  • 102 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Aug 13, 2013 at 6:15 PM

I would still prefer we upgraded the likes of Gos, Obertan and Willo!

  • 103 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Aug 13, 2013 at 6:16 PM

So who played in that game?

  • 106 sexyirishtoon // Aug 13, 2013 at 6:28 PM

Keep Gosling. He possesses something v unique in the NUFC team, a British passport.

  • 107 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Aug 13, 2013 at 6:31 PM

    jesp
got no idea – seems ‘top secret’ – just that BBC Newcastle are mentioning it

  • 108 geordie157 // Aug 13, 2013 at 6:33 PM

keep Gosling, wait and see what happens with Cabaye as I fear he is off. If he goes with time to spare move for James McCarthy or even Will Hughes.

If Gosling can stay fit I think he can be a useful squad player. Obertan meanwhile just isn’t good enough.

  • 109 yo-yo // Aug 13, 2013 at 6:41 PM

Keep Gosling as backup if Kebab goes. Otherwise he just won’t get emnough match time to improve as a player. I think Anita could do a very good job as a mid playmaker with Sissokho box to box and Tiote as the enforcer if Cabs is not there. Then we need a Guthrie ( as somebody said ) and Gosiling could well be good enough to take on that role if he gets the chance. I like the lad and feel he has just had bad luck at a crucial point in his career

  • 110 GeordieTwo // Aug 13, 2013 at 6:46 PM

Some of Alan’s new excuses being prepared for the coming season:
“I’ve never really liked the way the sun shines at St. James Park. Sometimes it gets in my eyes and makes it hard to write in my little notebook. That is one reason we are so poor at home this season.”
“I’ve always felt the league has too many games each season. Let’s think about it. 38 games is a lot isn’t it? In fact it’s far too many. My players are clearly tired. And we even had 2 cup games, both of which we lost unfortunately. That makes 40. That’s far too many in my opinion.”
“The recent illness of the tea lady has thrown a dark shadow over the dressing room. A lot of us are really down in the dumps about it. How can the club be expected to produce top performances with a crisis hanging over all of us?”

  • 111 JackButler // Aug 13, 2013 at 6:47 PM

Cabaye won’t be going anywhere as no one will pay what Ashley will want

  • 112 Mister Tuff // Aug 13, 2013 at 6:50 PM

I see Obertan had some game time in the friendly with Liverpool. I had thought that he along with a few more who came within the category of “deadwood” were going to be shipped out. Clearly not the case a he is still here. Giving him game time also suggests he is probably not going anywhere.
Whilst there is just under 3 weeks for the transfer window to close -I am extremely worried that we are initially going to seen a continuation of last seasons play. I did note in the last game the defence were trying to play the ball out on the ground. I suspect their efforts to do this in the City game -will result in it working initially -then with a bit of pressure applied – mistakes then collapse.

  • 113 JackButler // Aug 13, 2013 at 6:54 PM

    Mister Tuff

Pardew will never give up and admit that Obertan will never make a premier league player as long as he has a hole in his arse. He’s battling it out with Carr over signings and Obertan was Pardew’s choice so unfortunately we are stuck with him

  • 114 Mister Tuff // Aug 13, 2013 at 7:03 PM

JB – I’ve done a few posts on here about Obertan – right from his early days in France -to Man U to here. He never ever rose to expectations and never scored more than 3 or maybe 5 goals (cannot remember exactly) in a season. Some people suggested there was a confidence issue – not so as it was not so long ago that he was spouting he should be in the French squad. Graham Carr in interviews stated that it was not he who wanted him but Percy. I suspect Obertan is still here because of Percys’ massive ego.

  • 115 GeordieTwo // Aug 13, 2013 at 7:07 PM

I suspect you might be right Mr. Tuff @111. It’s a sad state of affairs. The only thing he has is pace.

  • 116 JackButler // Aug 13, 2013 at 7:08 PM

    Mister Tuff

I don’t think Obertan has an issue with confidence, it’s simply down to the fact that he isn’t good enough, take away his pace and he’s left with nothing.

But you are right, Pardew’s ego is the issue and it will cost us big time this season as nothing has changed from last seasons debacle

  • 117 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Aug 13, 2013 at 7:09 PM

Pardew has a serious case of Hubris :-D

  • 118 Shadow_Shearer // Aug 13, 2013 at 7:16 PM

I just had a thought, imagine jfk sold guti and bought sinclair. He would have annoyed pardew and pleased the fans. This is what he needs 2 do 2 get accepted by the toon army.

  • 119 JackButler // Aug 13, 2013 at 7:19 PM

    Shadow_Shearer

I’d prefer to keep Jonas and sell Pardew

  • 120 GeordieTwo // Aug 13, 2013 at 7:25 PM

“The atmosphere has been open but also single-minded and, to return to the beginning, while my presence here has been fleeting, the reminder it has prompted is welcome. Because of decisions taken at the top of the club, it can feel like Newcastle is a haven for crisis, yet the reality is different. So many experts, so much professionalism, people getting on with it. Fine people, too.
What comes next is the unknown – we all know the context – but there is a leanness and focus about Newcastle. “That’s because of last year, if I’m being honest,” Taylor said. “Everybody knows the criticism we got and we deserved it because, as a team and everybody involved, we weren’t right. For whatever reasons we weren’t right last year, we have to put right now.
“Everybody is going to be targeting Newcastle, so we know we’re under pressure, but I think that’s why everybody has come back in great shape this summer and so far it’s been a completely different pre-season to what we’re used to. Everybody is raring to go; everybody is buzzing like a bee out there.”
The above is an excerpt from George Caulkin’s comments while in Portugal with the club in preseason. It has the balance that Caulkin is known for. He sees some positives in how the club is preparing for the season but he’s realistic as well. He knows we’re in for a battle and wonders about the hiring of Kinnear and the lack of transfer activity. It’s old now but still a good read.
