With Yohan Cabaye maybe leaving Newcastle towards the end of the transfer window, we are wondering what Newcastle will do with Dan Gosling this summer.
Dan Gosling – had a great game at St. Mirren
Gosling’s shown some good form in pre-season, but the former Everton player has only one year left on his four-year contract, since he signed as a free agent from Everton in the summer of 2010.
Dan will become a free agent next summer, and he’s unlikely to be offered a new deal at Newcastle, so it wasn’t surprising Newcastle were trying to sell him this summer, and of course he almost joined crystal Palace a couple of weeks ago.
But with Alan Pardew saying yesterday he’s a little worried about losing Cabaye at the last moment this summer, maybe it would be a good move to keep Dan on the books, at least through January.
If the nightmare scenario happens and Cabaye leaves – say on the last day of the transfer window for a massive fee – and we don’t have time to replace him, Dan could help fill the gap left in central midfield at least until January.
And you never know with more games in the Newcastle first team, it may give Dan a chance to show what he can at the club, because he’s had precious few chances in a black and white shirt.
And when you don’t play as Alan Pardew has admitted today, it’s really hard to come in and impress without previous playing time.
It seems to us it would be wise if Newcastle keep Dan on board this summer.
What do you think?

He wouldn’t please all the fans. Certainly not this one.
