Former Newcastle Target Now Available From Lille

10:37 pm, Wednesday, August 14th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 67 Comments

Newcastle were after 20 year-old Florian Thauvin in January, before the French U20 International signed a four and a half year deal with Ligue 1 club Lille for around €3.5M.

florian thauvin

Florian Thauvin – available for €15M?

Arsenal were also rumored to be after the attacking midfielder, who was sent out on loan to Bastia in Ligue 1 after signing for Lille, and scored 7 goals in just 12 appearances.

There are reports in France that the young Frenchman could be allowed to leave Lille for around €15M (£13.5M) this summer – which would be an €11.5M (£9.8M) gain in just six months for Lille.

According to La Provence in France an informed source said the following:

“What could happen is that Lille say, ‘OK, we will sell him but only for €15m (£13m).” “You see, at the end of the day, Marseilles do not want him that much.”

Marseilles had been thought to be interested in the player, but surely no club will pay out €15M for the 20 year-old youngster.

The French youth international was a key player for France at the Under-20 World Cup held in Turkey this summer, and France won the Championship by beating Uruguay in the final 4-1 on penalties, after the game ended in a no score draw.

Lille Sporting Director Frederic Paquet has said the French club do not want to sell their top youngster:

“We’ve always been very clear — his departure has never been either considered or conceivable.” “Florian has just arrived at the club, he’s 100% a Lille player and we’re very happy about that. We’re counting a lot on his talent to enable the team to perform.”

Lille Chairman Michel Seydoux was also towing the Lille party line:

“We know exactly what we want at Lille and I am stubborn. We will take our time for Florian to adapt to the group as we did in the past with Gervinho or Dimitri Payet.”

It seems to us the situation is that Lille would sell for €15M – if some club was daft enough to pay that much over the odds, for a player who cost €11.5M less than that in January.

Maybe PSG?

Newcastle will pay nowhere near that amount for this player.

In his career so far, Florian has played 52 times with 10 goals.

He’s an excellent up and coming player but Newcastle missed their chance to sign him in January for a reasonable fee.

    —————————Heart————————–

    –Walker——–Cahill——–Terry——–Baines–

    —————Carrick—————Gerrard———-

    ——Wallcott———Wilshire——–Sturridge—-

    ————————–Rooney————————

BPC, Terry and Gerrard are past it for me. Especially Terry. I’m also not sure whether you get the best out of Roo when he plays up front alone.
It’s a difficult one. I think there is a distinct lack of real class in our national side at the minute

  • 8 Our Toon // Aug 14, 2013 at 10:47 PM

    REPOST!!

Everyone understands Pardew is an issue but he is not the biggest issue at the club, our owner is the biggest issue. Everyone’s talking about our squad being good enough to finish top 7, well Norwich, Swansea, Southampton even the scum, have the most piece of the jigsaw…..a better manger.

Can people stop going on about rubbish like Rhodes from Blackburn, the guy is awful, I’ve seen him play a few times and he is good for the championship (like Shola was when we were there) but he is naff in fact strolla has a better record in the championship than Rhodes, he reminds of Jonathan Stead another big flop,, as is Austin who thankfully has moved to QPR and Jermaine Beckford before him, we should be aiming for bigger and better players instead of championship rubbish!! Oh add David Nugent to that list as well

  • 9 Twatter // Aug 14, 2013 at 10:50 PM

Fact of the matter is Welbeck and Cleverley should be nowhere near our national team’s starting 11. Bang average players who do very little for their club. I would prefer to see us call up Nathan Redmond and Raheem Sterling than carry some of the dead weight in the squad like we do at the moment.

  • 10 spitfire_ // Aug 14, 2013 at 10:50 PM

15 mill? They bought him for 4 mill 6 months ago and Thauvin wants to go because the lack of games… 15 mill… how exactly this happened?

  • 11 paul24 // Aug 14, 2013 at 10:52 PM

Just had a look at Welbecks stats, 27 goals in 139 appearances, thats pretty s**t, regardless of how old he is.

Way over hyped, Karim Benzema scored more than that in 1 season at Lyon when he was a teenager, and bagged 10 assists to boot. If Man Poo are pinning there hopes on future players like him they’re screwed xD

  • 14 Jamesthefirst // Aug 14, 2013 at 11:11 PM

We will definitely sign another striker before the window closes but more than likely it will be a player we have scouted and talked to before. JK doesn’t have the guile in negotiations or the time to start with new targets.

Personally would prefer to see Vuckic and Campbell given a proper run in the first team. Both of them have more talent than any of the strikers we have been linked to.

I would have like to have seen Rhodes playing with Snodgrass, Morrison, Maloney and Forrest at least for couple of minutes against Premier league quality opponents tonight.

  • 21 Slatymag // Aug 15, 2013 at 12:19 AM

This talk of Alderwiereld out of the blue anything to do with PSG’s apparent interest in Debuchy. He does also play right back?

Cabaye and Debuchy to PSG with Alderwiereld and a midfielder in without fat man dipping into his pocket could be the plan.

It’s getting to the point where I’m hoping for any kind of movement to kick start some action. Though a striker in would do!

  • 22 Graeme // Aug 15, 2013 at 12:37 AM

The positions we need strengthening have been known, in some cases for over 2 years – eg CB. There is an interview, covered on here where Pardew says “MA has said to me ‘Where’s the Centerback we need then?” Right, so, where is he??

Its nothing more than smoke and mirrors as far as MA is concerned and his puppet, JFK, is just an imbecile at best. Between them they havent a clue of what is best for our footy club. Pardew is desperately trying to cover his own rump in the run up to the new season and it looks like JFK has the inside line to the mans office!!

This really isnt the way to prepare for a new season, but our Illustrious Owner seems more than satisfied with what has transpired.

    Its a bloody nightmare.

  • 25 Sazzer // Aug 15, 2013 at 1:36 AM

I’m not impressed by him. Look at window “vs” and “against” videos and you find out he loses the ball quite often.

Better we go for Boudebouz or Hughes then this guy.

  • 26 Pizzicato The Arizona Geordie // Aug 15, 2013 at 1:44 AM

Why don’t just hope for Vuckic coming through, and allow HBA to stick with the right wing? To be honest, if I have to choose, I would just put Vuckic in the starting 11 as AM. Just hope that his fitness is good enough.

I am dreaming that we are doing a Barca with Remi, Vuckic and HBA in the front. It’s quite impossible for a coach like Pardew.

  • 27 Toon73 // Aug 15, 2013 at 2:16 AM

With Campbell out on loan I can see us getting aST, LW, and a CB in. I think the final week of the window will be chaos.

  • 28 Sydney Toon // Aug 15, 2013 at 2:25 AM

    Pizzacato
Im with you on Vuckic, I suspect Pardew was protecting him against Rangers as they are a very physical side. I think last season he was looking to use him but injuries (again!!) got in the way. Look at the way Coutinho adapted at Liverpool, but Rodgers protected him against the really physical sides initially then let him loose in the back end. I have seen enough in Vuckic to give him a long run early, then similar to Santon, bench him to maintain hunger but also rest him.
With the squad we have, especially in midfield, either Sissokho or Tiote will lose out, I don’t see Sissokho playing AM this season, another way for Pardew to ease him in. Again LW is an issue, so Remy or Gouffran will definitely be there along with Guti, who looks refreshed. So again, we will see Anita possibly missing out more than we would like. Otherwise, Pards reverts to 433, which also works for us, but isolates Cisse more if teams jam pack the hole in the middle, meaning Marveuax on the left will give us more ability to cross. But it leaves us a little short in CM, as Anita is supported by Gosling, he admittedly looks really good right now.
On Pards, give him 10 games, see where we are and if not in the Top 10, lynch like hell. Plenty of quality Managers out there, we just need the right person. Financially, people thing Hiddink is a no go, as an Aussie, he accepted the coaching gig on $1m, only a fifth of his salary at Anzhi. I think make a play for him, and appoint someone like Poyet or Cocu as his assistant and look at that, we cross off something from the 5 year plan – Succession Planning!

  • 29 Sydney Toon // Aug 15, 2013 at 2:30 AM

    Toon 73
Throwing a 18yo in the championship this early could ruin him. He is not ready for that level IMO. Pards says he is, but as a 4th or 5th option. League One is not that bad of a league, some very good sides there, main thing is that it will give him plenty of first team games along with experience with the physical side of the English game.

  • 30 paul24 // Aug 15, 2013 at 2:33 AM

    @Sydney Toon

If Pardew gets the chop, which could happen, his 8 year deal has a small termination fee, Joe Kinnear will get the job as manager. I dont know about you, but i’d rather have Pardew, JFK as manager scares the living s***e out of me.

  • 31 jimmysmith // Aug 15, 2013 at 2:53 AM

Football pundits are A holes. Pretty much to a man they have us struggling. Poorly informed and feebly following each others opinion, the only one worth reading regarding the Toon is George Caulkin. The Guardian in particular are “having a larf”, they should be ashamed of themselves.

  • 32 Sydney Toon // Aug 15, 2013 at 2:55 AM

    Paul
I doubt Kinnear will get the job, I firmly believe Ashley will have someone like Poyet or McClaren lined up as likely’s if he gets rid of Pards. Kinnear may come in as temporary but I don’t Ashley will want him doing regular interviews and it would affect team morale, which appears okay under Pards, seems the players have spoken up a lot more and Pards is listening. Whether he puts those comments into action is something we wont be clear about till after the Man City game. Telling you know, if JFK does not spend the apparent “20m” from Ashley and we struggle in areas or get a heap of injuries, then JFK will have a lot to answer for IMO.
I think Plan A was this:
    PEA in for $15m
    Loan deal for Remy $2m
    Loan Deal for Sinclair $2m

Come to January and possibly another $20m is available, then we go after Ince or depending on Sinclair’s form we make a permanent arrangement for $5m.

There is logic there, people just don’t see it that way, spending early can give you early rewards, but it can also damage you if those signings flop or get injured. Leaving no money in the budget for January. We got 5 bargains in January, what is to say Ashley wont follow the same route??? I think he will, get the strikers we need, I don’t care who anymore, Add depth for the long road home in January.

Hi ST, enjoyed your post @ 28, well said and written. Not particularly pessimistic about our side or chances, just scared of coming over in any way Pollyanna-ish I suppose, which really just strikes me as tempting fate and being naive in the extreme after many decades of hope and realization regarding our fortunes. Even so, see us as only one two players short of a team to be very proud of, despite some lingering misgivings about the owner and management.

Glad to hear you’ve finally managed to get out of Roma, where so many before you have failed at their own great cost. More power to ya!

    @ Sydney Toon

If Pardew goes Joe will get the job, think about it, when has he done anything sensible in terms of the clubs progression, Joe fits the bill perfectly, he’s Ashleys friend. He’ll keep the team ticking over in the Premier League while Ashley continues promoting his Sports Direct brand through our club. I just hope the rumours are true that he’s gonna pocket the new TV money over the next few seasons till the debts paid and do one.

  • 36 paul24 // Aug 15, 2013 at 3:31 AM

    @Sydney Toon

The 20 million figure people have been throwing around isnt what we have to spend, it was originally part of a discussion regarding inflation on the loans we had before Ashley paid them off and we started owing him, for some reason people think now we dont have to pay inflation we have the money that would have went towards it to spend which isnt the case. There have been no official reports as to what JFK has to spend so whatever figures people have suggested are guess work. So f**k knows what he has and only god knows if he can actually get anyone in.

  • 37 Sydney Toon // Aug 15, 2013 at 5:00 AM

    Jimmy

It wasn’t easy mate, glad to be home in Sydney. The things you do to put food on the table!
Thanks for that, I don’t post often but when I do, it is usually thought out, unlike others who just scream Pardew Out!! all the time, gets frustrating when you want to post something positive and everybody is getting their hopes destroyed. Not every deal is the same, some players are just desperate to move and take whatever is on offer, others like to negotiate it out and drag it out because they want best dollar or want reassurances over FT football. In the end, if we finish 10th, I wont see it as disappointing, but will see it as a positive step. Anything less than 10th is, IMO, a fair expectation at this stage. It will always be reviewed, the expectations etc etc.
I just cant wait to see what Pards does with Santon, who was close to our best last season, Marveaux who is just plain inconsistent and the Loic Remy & Cisse Partnership and how he will fit both in.

    Paul24
Okay fair enough, going into our bidding history, logic seems we have at least 20m to spend. Look at our targets, all under that amount by some margin, we went for gold for PEA, we missed out to CL team, not anything else. Gomis deal is odd, but it doesn’t surprise me that he has clauses everywhere, how else could Lyon afford it and obviously at the time, ST Etienne wanted a return because they unearthed him. I think we will unearth the Gomis deal late, Lyon have to sell end of story.
I am still holding out hope for Sinclair on Loan, what a good bit of business that would be. Man City are obviously looking to ship Milner, Barry, Sinclair, Lescott out, remember they sacked Mancini to start producing from their academy. I think also we will go in for Ince initially but if Blackppol quote more than $7m, we will go forr Sinclair.

Morning mate. Can we stop with this the best we can hope for is pardew does crap n gets sacked, or mike ashley wipes the debt off and sells up? Its very defeatist when we haven’t even kicked a ball yet this season.

The best we can hope for is pardew has learnt his lessons, gets the team performing like the season before last, ashley really is happy to spend money and kinnear is just struggling to get them in but does eventually.

For me thats the best we can hope for, not new managers and board room when the season is underway? Then if we finish in a good position you never know maybe an interested party will come in and then buy the club?

  • 52 bills-son // Aug 15, 2013 at 7:53 AM

    BandB,

Missed your post again yesterday but here is my answer….

The strength of 95% of successful teams is built on a strong defence and midfield – not on 20/30 goal a season strikers. If your defence and midfield is weak you’ll lose more games than you win no matter how good your strikers are.

Alex Ferguson is a classic example – he prioritised getting top class keepers, central defenders and central midfielders and was ruthless in getting shot of any player who didn’t excel in those positions. He knew that if that central spine was right the dominance and possession it brought to games would create plenty of chances for the forwards.

Which brings me back to your question about what would I do from that post about Santon. I would prioritise getting full backs who can defend, a tall dominant CB and a winger who works hard, tracks back and can weigh in with 6/8 goals a season – Guti had that once but without the goals.

As Olly Barnard’s excellent article in the Chronicle highlighted, playing Santon an attacking right footer at left back brings obvious and serious problems to the defence. Couple that with Debuchy whose strengths are offensive not defensive and our flanks are wide open to pressure. Because of this our CB’s are constantly pulled wide to cover and any decent coach will tell you that the key to good central defending is to keep the CB’s close to each other. Ours are all over the place – Liverpool 0.6 being the classic example.

The most confident I’ve felt about our team for years was the side we put out for the first 10/12 games of our 5th finish season. And guess what, we had Simpson and Raylor at full back and a tracking back Oba and Guti especially. That kept the defence and midfield solid and players could hold their positions – result, we had the least goals conceded after 10 games in all four leagues something unheard of for NUFC.

Santon and Debuchy are undoubtedly better footballers than Simpson and Raylor – but better defenders, no.

  • 53 Toon73 // Aug 15, 2013 at 8:04 AM

ST – what part of Sydney mate?

I don’t mind Campbell going out on loan, but surely it must suggest another ST is coming in this window. I’d say Gomis.

  • 56 check the toastie // Aug 15, 2013 at 8:15 AM

Billson – Raylor is right footed and played left back under that unbeaten run, work that one out, and last year against Liverpool Haidara played left back, guess what he is left footed.

The problem with our defence is that our midfield, particularly Jonas and Tiote keep giving the ball away and as such we come under pressure, at times Jonas and Tiote will give the ball away whilst Santon and Debuchy are pushing up field thus they are out of position, this didn’t happen with Raylor or Simmo in particular as they aren’t as confident in their ability to produce something of any worth in our opponents half, so just remained in their ‘spot’.

See if you can make a post without slagging Santon, the boy is a super talented footballer and if he had a player capable of creating in front of him instead of Jonas he could concentrate on defending.

  • 57 Bambams // Aug 15, 2013 at 8:17 AM

Our action in this transfer window is pathetic and I cant believe those idiots managed to get hold of our club.

I genuinely do not believe we will sign anyone else unless we sell Cabs.

Ashley has one plan, recoup his losses and sell at a profit, move on to Rangers and do the same.

He is like a car boot dealer.

Remys injury might be another one of Pardews little niggles, like when benny was out for months last season

“We’ve always been very clear — his departure has never been either considered or conceivable.” “Florian has just arrived at the club, he’s 100% a Lille player and we’re very happy about that.”

How is that “now available”? More sensationalist BS

Now Remy’s out for a month? The excitement for the start of the season is turning into a totally different darker sense of impending doom. :(

i can’t help but feel that with Llambias, we would have brought in a second first teamer by now.

If Remy’s out for a month, there’s nowt to worry about. After all, we’ve got Shola and Gouffran to share the load with Cisse.

Between Joe Kinnear and Ashley, we haven’t a cat in hell’s chance of doing anything but struggle and despair!

They’re a disgrace and the sooner they go away the better!

    @ lesh 45

I really dont understand why the Andy Carroll fee has so many people confused and annoyed. The money went into the NUFC coffers, it’s not like there is £35 million cash lying around or a seperate account named Andy Carroll money. If you look at was has been spent the club has already invested sums of money that together add up to a figure in that ball. As for the TV money you pretty much explained it as simply as it can be explained, we dont have it yet.
