News today that Crystal Palace may be the next club to try to sign Darren Bent of Aston Villa, and the London side are said to offer a possible loan deal to the England striker.
Darren Bent – desperately wants to join Newcastle
But that’s not what Villa want and they would rather get Bent off the books, and they are trying to get as much as possible for him after paying out anywhere from £18M to £24M for him from Sunderland a short 30 months ago – depending on what add-on payments were made – was just a terrible deal for the Midlands club.
The Evening Chronicle is reporting that Bent has told his representatives that he wants a move to Newcastle as soon as possible, and Darren doesn’t still want to be at Villa Park when the transfer window closes on September 2nd.
It’s understood that Bent wants to play again for Alan Pardew after working with Pardew during his time at Charlton Athletic, which were the most productive time of his career in terms of goal-scoring.
While at Charlton under Alan Pardew, Bent scored 37 goals in 79 appearances and that was in the Premier League.
But of course Newcastle will not pay the £6M asking fee that Villa wants, so we are in a stalemate at the moment for Darren Bent.
And Newcastle will not pay the agents’ fees to get Bafe Gomis from Lyon, so we’re in a stalemate on that transfer too, so that’s not exactly great news at the moment. 🙁

There are no ashley supporters or pardew “fans” there are people who appreciate certain things that ashley has done and detest most of the other stuff.
With pardew, I dont think anyone is saying hes a great manager, most people not calling for his head (me included) think he has done enough to be given 10 games.
You will find a lot of the people trying to at the very least stay positive and have a little hope and faith in the club, are infrequent on here due to mindless negativity and droves of posters calling them brainless morons.

I think we are all agreed that Debs and Santoon are more attack minded than defense minded. In that, why not utilise it but playing them as wing backs. They could provide alot more width and crossing.

Comment #12if he fails his medical at Fulham. then we would be a certainty to sign him, it’s our specialty to sign only crocked players

Comment #17If the striker options aren´t coming in then we need two wingers.
HBA, Obertan and Jonas aren’t good enough.
A left-footed left winger and a right-footed right winger please.
Lets get some width, speed and players who can cross to create chances for Cisse and Ameobi.
(I prefer HBA in the centre on the edge of the box.)

Comment #18This is an article from Mr Lee Ryder from the Chronicle who know as much about what is going at the club as I do. Which is nowt!!
Quite embarrassing for him really, saying he wants to come to Newcastle then 1 hour later he is at Fulham for a medical.

Comment #22Like most of you i have been pretty negative about almost everything nufc related this summer. The main problem for me has been pardew not leaving and the Kinnear debarcle was totally unnecessary as well tbh. Lack of signings and seemingly a lack of ambition have just built up our frustration further.
I am trying to look at things in a positive light though and there are some positives.
1. Ashley has brought in a DoF (although an awful choice) the role means there is more accountability to the staff for poor performance. Faye Downey has also been added to this with a few other switches of staff role. So underperformance this season will be easier to assign to specific staff failures. i.e if we have another shocker peoples heads will be under the axe. (Ashley covering his back (Protecting his assets))
2. By enlarge we have a fitter (apparently) less injured squad bar Remy & Jonas than we did last season. If it stays like this at least if nothing else we will have consistency with our starting 11 (the reason we had a great start in our 5th placed finish season particularly in defence). Could the lack of signings help to improve the squad chemistry? (I know perhaps looking for the positives too hard)
3. Players & Staff have points to prove and reputations at stake. The January signings will be looking to establish themselves at the club too. Pardew is under pressure to have a good season and will know a repeat of last season isnt an option. Younger players on one year deals know it’s now or never too. This could give them the focus they need to really push on.
4. The world cup is around the corner and all of our international players will want to be there. If they are playing poorly they wont be, it’s as simple as that. This in its self should see more drive and determination injected into the team. Something we really lacked last year.
5. On paper we really do have a good squad. All of us know it. Its one of the best we have had in such a long time. Its a big year for some of our players with points to prove and the world cup. Others have had injuries and need to stay fit and show what they can do for a full season.
Pardew has a lot of options available to him. In terms of both formations we could realistically use and squad depth we are pretty good. We could go three/four/five at the back or three/four/five in midfield in different games. Granted we are limited up front but could play three is two were pushed wider in a 4-3-3.
The quality of some of our players is exceptional. I think Ben Arfa, Anita, Sissoko and Marveaux can really kick on this season (in the right position & given the right instruction).
For me we have no natural width in the team so i would love to see a formation of:
Krul
Debuchy Saylor/MYM Colo Santon
Cabaye Tiote(def) / Sissoko Anita
Marveaux/Gouffran Ben-arfa
Cisse
The wing backs can provide width to stretch the opposition defence creating the room for ben arfa nad marveaux to work with cisse to create the goals. Tiote could be used in the games where we need a bit of cover in front of the defence. The two CAM’s and ST would not have to track back and would not drop too deep allowing us to hit on the counter quickly.
If all else fails we could always pack the defence and pump it long

What do you mean ‘if all else fails’, fellah? This is my usual plan A, B, C and D – haven’t you been watching lately? The quickest path between two points is a straight line, everyone knows that.
Keep the faith!!
