Darren Bent, the England international striker will sign on for a one year loan deal at Fulham – probably today – that’s now official with Fulham manager Martin Jol welcoming his new signing to the London club.
Darren Bent – will move to Fulham on loan
And Alan Pardew has come out and said Newcastle were close to signing Bent – but in the transfer market – we know that close doesn’t count for much and you either get your man or you don’t, and whether you were close means very little at the end of the day.
This is what Alan Pardew told the local press today:
“He was close.” “Close, in terms of the deal but Darren has decided to go elsewhere.” “I wish him all the best.” “We need a striker.” “Joe is working very hard.”
And this is what Martin Jol, the Fulham manager has said about his new arrival:
“Darren Bent is a striker I have always admired.” “He has shown in the Barclays Premier League that he is composed and clinical in front of goal but, even if he is not scoring, he is involved in some good link-up play, creating opportunities for his teammates.”
“I’m delighted that he has joined us, he gives us pace up front and I am confident that he will add to our goals scored tally this season.”
This is the seocnd striker we have missed out on this summer, following our number one target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang deciding in July to goto Borussia Dortmund rather than Newcastle.
We don’t know exactly where we stand with the potential Bafe Gomis deal, but according to reports that one could also be dead in the water.
It is being reported that Newcastle were unwilling to meet Bent’s wage demands, which is why he finally ended up at Fulham.

Comment #3Joe is working very hard….by doing sweet nothing to get players signed up. Never mind a B-list. He is probably working through the alphabet at the moment!
On another note, I am trying to get one of the SBR day shirts for an ill family member and wondering whether any other members know if you can buy more than one shirt per member, as I kinda fancy getting one myself? Cheers in advance!

Comment #5Absolutly disappointed with this news.
I’m truely fed up with these ‘we were close’ deals.
If JFK is working hard, prove it with a good result, not by words.
Although I don’t think JFK is doing enough.

Comment #6I get the feeling Joes hands are tied while waiting to see who offers what for our own players. Either that or he is inept and out of his league in the modern football world where not being a habitual liar and being able to pronounce players names matters more than he realises.
Regardless of who offers what for Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Debuchy or whoever, we need more options up front. Is the hold up a domino effect from other clubs transfers which are dragging on? I don’t know – its all a bit puzzling!

Comment #7At his age, Bent would have gone for the highest wage but it is telling that Fulham wouldn’t commit to buying him as he is only on a years loan.
So Fulham and us didn’t fancy him on a permanent basis. Me thinks that both clubs must think he isn’t worth what he and Villa are asking.

Comment #8im convinced 80% of people on here are unable/unwilling to process information if bent was knocked back because of wage demands who do you think makes that decision unless part of jfks job is also accountancy haha

Comment #9@G.unit: He’s working hard on finding his B and C list. He took them on holiday with him and left them in his hotel. Don’t worry about other clubs catching onto it, though. It literally just says “fcuk.”
re: Bent, if he wanted to come here then he’d have taken a cut. It’s no love lost as far as I’m concerned. He’s a canny player but it’s very difficult to fit him into any formation that isn’t using him as a lone striker so… yeah, I’m not fussed about him at all.

Comment #10FFS… Bent this, Bent that, Bent, Bent, Bent…. Howay man!
Like he’s the only striker on the planet and our no1 target……
We will not sign anyone because it is JK’s job to frustrate AP until he goes, allowing JK to take the manager’s job. Ashley will not invest anymore in a manager he doesn’t want anymore.
Obviously, we got Remy but he’s a player that could get into any team.

Comment #11I don’t think anyone is coming in. We’re gambling on fewer injuries knowing we have less games to play. But most of all saving MA money.
Last summer’s transfer window repeating its self. We’ll buy in January only if we need to.

Comment #12Feel sorry for Joe he gets the brunt of everyone anger wen he has to work within an extremely tight budjet, If
MA and DL got their finger outr lst summer and gave BA the 80k he wanted he would have supassed the 20 goal mark and got us the the europa league final which we very easy could have won instead they played hardball lost out Ba walked and with him went the goals, we barely stayed in the league and made a 9million revenue lost bcoz of it and now we have pay millions to replace him a man we had for free little wonder why DL got the door.

Comment #13BUT NOBODY WANTED BENT TO JOIN US FFS!!!!!!! Stop screaming at JFK saying why could he not get him!!! If he had got him people would be saying we had no ambition!!! You guys need to realise we are a mid table team miles away from the likes of City, Chelsea etc

Comment #14Top & bottom of it is M.A will NOT pay the money so no matter how good JFK is or Pardew they cannot complete the deal as the target is not reached money wise. Lets face it we will not sign anyone this summer and we will struggle! I have never in my 58 years been so annoyed and frustrated at our situation, for heavens sake there will be an abundance at the end of the season to pay for these players, how about some forward thinking by the management? I am totally disheartened and disappointed by it all now, doubt if I will watch many games this season as its going to be the same old same old and I could honestly not stand that for another term.

Comment #16Kinnear’s working hard? Doing exactly what, I wonder.
Let’s not confuse activity and productivity and to date, what added value has he brought to Newcastle United?
Can anybody show any positives that he’s initiated and concluded? I exclude Remy as that deal was almost done by Llambias and Kinnear finalised the loan.

Comment #19Here we are days away from the kick off on Monday night against Manchester City and we have only one injured loan signing to show for six weeks of endeavour in the transfer market. Newcastle will be beaten again live on Sky, and the restless rot will start all over again with our supporters whose patience, like mine, has worn itself out. How many games will it take to sack Pardew ? I reckon 3 – the first three, which should be enough to see him on his way – some three months later than it should have been. Meanwhile, the long suffering supporters will have put up with same old bollocks about trying harder on the pitch. So what makes you think I’m pissed off with NUFC !
