Laurent Blanc On Cabaye – I Love This Player

11:10 am, Monday, August 19th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 44 Comments

Paris Saint-Germain manager Laurent Blanc is at it again, talking players  he may be interested in signing over the next two weeks, but  who are at other clubs  - and yes – there are just 14 days left in this summer transfer window.

Joe Kinnear – please take note.

yohan cabaye braga

Yohan Cabaye – Laurent Blanc loves this player

Alan Pardew has rightly complained about Blanc talking about Newcastle players in the press, but in one interview Alan then went on to say Newcastle were after Remy, Bent and Gomis, so his words on Blanc were immediately undermined – it was an own goal by Pardew.

Blanc and PSG have brought in 54 times capped Uruguayan International Edinson Cavani for £55M from Naples, and 19 year-old Brazilian defender Marquinhos for £35M from Roma, in big-money deals this summer.

And we suppose if PSG bid  £25M for the 27-year-old Cabaye, then Newcastle would accept the deal, but then we would then need to bring in another central midfielder very quickly. :(

Not sure our Director of Football Joe Kinnear can move with  that kind of speed to get a replacement in.

This is the latest comment Blanc has made in a string of references to Yohan Cabaye over the  summer – this time after his side’s 1-1 home draw with Ajaccio yesterday – and it took an Edinson Cavani 86th minute equalizer to avoid a shock defeat in Paris.

This is what Blanc told TuttoMercatoWeb:

“We still want to sign other players. Interest in Cabaye? These are things you write in the press. I can only say that I love this player.”

It’s annoying when other clubs talk openly about wanting to sign Newcastle players, and it’s worrying that PSG may be waiting until the very last minute,  before putting in a bid for Cabaye, and the bid could meet Newcastle’s own valuation of the player.

Then what do we do – if we don’t have time to bring in a replacement?

Comments welcome, but please keep them civil.

    Just for information…

I found a stat earlier on Shola. If Cisse had played the same number of minutes in the PL for NUFC and scored at the same rate he has since he joined the club then he would have scored…69 goals. Compared to Shola’s 41.

So that’s a bit like saying if they played the same minutes in a whole season together and Cisse got 20 goals, Shola would get 12.

Who else witnessed player power at Arsenal on Saturday?

Top players such as Cazorla strolling through the game. A clear message to the Management “We need better players to compete and win things”

I would not be surprised if we see the same scenario unfolding at Newcastle!

And I’m still collating answers to anyone with the courage to put their predictions on record…I have over 20 people so far:

    Final position in league
    Number of points in league
    League Cup round
    FA Cup round
Number of 1st team signings this season (currently 1 – Remy)
Number of 1st team leaving this season (currently 1 – Perch. Harper and Simpson left when contracts expired)
    Top goal scorer
Number of goals for top goal scorer
Month that AP is sacked (or not)
New manager if AP is sacked

Write the answers only and I’ll store them and we can bring them back up at the end of the season!

But the fact remains that the most he’s ever got in a single season is 11 goals and that was from when we were a championship side. 58 goals from a striker over 13 years is beyond poor compared to Cisse’s 146 in 9 years

jail – morning -no Ian Toon was posting as himself. he said he was on a working holiday. If he’s hitting the bars he’ll end up getting popped again and then send a post to himself -as he did previously -thus revealing his deception.

His words werent undermined… remy had a release clause, bent was up for sale and lyon wanted to sell gomis.

Did you see Tadic yesterday? Scored a pen, assisted 2 & made 3/4 other good chances for his forwards.I can only hope we are interested in him.

How’s going to be busy over the next few days. He’ll be looking to have Cabaye’s replacement in before he goes to PSG. And that’s in addition to getting us another quality striker and left winger.

He’ll do it all coz he has all his contacts, an astute financial brain. Oh, and his credibility will be so valuable in negotiating those deals – his reputation and personality will prove priceless!

Have faith in Joe. He’ll have his plane ready to go at a moments notice, passport, calculator and phrase books at the ready to enable him to swoop!

All that TV, sponsorship and merchandising money this season… AND £25mill from a last minute Cabaye sale?
Ashley will think it’s his birthday…..and still the debt to him won’t reduce (go figure).
Yes, we really are mugs at the Toon.

  • 10 numba9 // Aug 19, 2013 at 11:25 AM

Cabs will be out the door in the last two days and we will not have a replacement in time so how’s about doing a spurs and buying thesaid players in before the inevitable ?tight money grabbers that’s why

Pardews had one fantastic season and one terrible season with Newcastle. At the end of this season is the time to judge him. Now get behind him. I don’t care if you say he has a poor CV anyway, because managers can change. He got us to fifth, he can do it again, despite the lack of ambition and support from Ashley.

  • 12 ToonDarnSarf // Aug 19, 2013 at 11:26 AM

    JackButler

Sure. But it’s much fairer to base it on actual minutes on the pitch which is what I did. Ameobi has scored about 60% the amount of goals compared to Cisse based on time on the pitch.

Forgive me if this sounds a bit over simplified and it’s off topic but! With regards to the Gomis deal and the so called agents problems. I am probably being naive but the way I see it is like this: Gomis employs an agent to represent him, he must have some form of contract with said agent to ensure that the agent gets his percentage from any deals made. In my opinion the contract is between Gomis and the agent. Therefore if anyone is responsible for paying the agents fee then it is Gomis, He is the agents employer after all.

I didn’t see him yesterday but I seen him plenty of times before I wanted us to buy him when he left Groningen.

  • 22 Sav // Aug 19, 2013 at 11:41 AM

In fairness, Ed, Bent and Gomis are clearly for sale and – as far as we know – Cab isn’t. That’s a big difference. Also I think pards deserves some acknowledgement for handling the Colo saga superbly. Had we not retained our captain, we’d be looking at a very bleak prospect for this season, so credit where it is due. In general, he is keen to loan out our young players, which can only be a good thing, and he has also managed HBA so the guy has only good things to say. Add to that, patching up and smoothing over Cisse’s Wonga wobble and Pardew’s man-management has been pretty faultless. Lets not forget that in all the hoofball/Jonas/tactics criticism. Not to mention his keeping a very cool head in the wake of JFK’s appointment and no headline signings – I’d give him manager of the year so far before a ball has been kicked. Although that may have to be revised once our kick-off comes. But for the next few hours, all credit to Pards.

Wudnt you think they’d just bid for him and get it over with, Iker Munian frm Bilbao would be a great replacement, and Demba BA on Loan and if were feeling very opptimestic we should go for Shawcross and sell Willo.

As much as I’m fuming with Ashley and JK for the lack of signings…I’m quietly positive about tonight.

Assuming we do NOT start with Jonas or Shola…and play this team:

    ——-Debuchy———-Colo——–Mbiwa———-Santon—

    —————Sissoko———–Tiote————Cabaye———-

    ———–Ben Arfa————-Cisse———Gouffran———-

I actually think we will do well tonight. The boys will be fired up to prove a point. We haven’t had Europa making us start the season early. They should all be fit and fresh. It’s just a shame Remy is not fit. This season we can fully concentra on the PL – I honestly think we can push for top 6. We neeeed a striker and LW soon though.

It’s very hard to predict though.

I’m currently on holiday and seen a lot of markets selling football stuff. You see the typical European clubs like barca, Madrid, Munich etc

Then from prem league the Liverpool, man utd and arsenal stuff

You see equal city, spurs and Newcastle then very little of anything else.

That shows our reputation around the world, we are a big club in the minds of a lot of people. We may not have the ambitious owner but our reputation still gives us a good pull in the prem league which is always good to see.
