Newcastle Need More Players Signed In The Next Two Weeks

10:19 pm, Monday, August 19th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 190 Comments

In what must be one of Newcastle’s worst ever opening day displays for a long time at the Etihad Stadium tonight, there was very little manager Alan Pardew could take out of this game, and in particular our back four looked very poor.

mike ashley -880074675

Mike Ashley – must work with Kinnear to get three new players through the door

The only bright spots for Newcastle were the performances of Tim Krul in goal, who kept the score down, and Ben Arfa, who made a few good runs but had absolutely no support from the rest of the forwards.

We thought we only needed one more striker and we’d be in good shape, but this performance has shocked us by its ineptness – and now Joe Kinnear really had to earn his money and Mike Ashley has to pay out some money – otherwise Newcastle could again be fighting relegation this season – based on this first performance of the season.

We must get another top center-back in,  and it looks like a huge mistake by Kinnear to cancel the deal for Douglas in mid-June, after it was all set up by Derek LLambias before Joe was appointed.

We need a striker and a center-back and since it seems Yohan Cabaye is ready to leave Newcastle.

And if Yohan wants to leave we should let him go – because he hardly helped the cause tonight – probably our best player – and he wasn’t in the right state of mind to play.

Newcastle now need an attacking central midfielder to replace Cabaye – who we assume will leave Newcastle in the next couple of weeks – but who exactly is available in Newcastle’s price range is not known.

We shouldn’t over-react to0 much, but Newcastle’s squad looks bereft of class – based on tonight’s performance.

Comments welcome.

What on earth does Pardew write on his notepad because nothing changes each week

  • 2 NUFCarter // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:20 PM

    ED, and Dummett played well

  • 3 SeanNufc87 // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:20 PM

    repost

    behave yourselves!

pardew WILL more than likely say we trained with cabs in the middle all week… because we have.

stevie T was an idiot, put us in a horrid position, i think pardew will tell him hes lost his place to MYM for the forseeable future

anita was poor, as poor as if not worse than anyone

tiote was decent for 20 minutes, then back to last season form, drop him.

debuchy, good going forward, atrocious in defence, but nasri goal was colos fault.

i want pardew to tell people as it is, i want him to say taylor was stupid and that arsenal were d1cks on the bid, we were played off the pitch and we will do better than west ham, if he doesnt hes spineless but judging him on this game is rediculous, theyre front 3 cost more than our team alone. if we lose to west ham ill be furious, but this is a bitter pill to take but not one that will kill us, it was expected.

  • 4 Klatoon // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:22 PM

    What does Tiote actually do?

  • 5 Indian Magpie // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:22 PM

Pardew should say it now We are tired for the Westham game from this wreck.

  • 6 Jonny // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:22 PM

Ince, Sinclair, McCarthy and a cb from the championship that can win a header. Stay away from France…….please.

  • 7 89Norcal // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:23 PM

Don’t forget they need to be quality players, not more youngsters.

  • 8 NUFCarter // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:23 PM

    Positives…
    Taylor is suspended
    Gutierezz is injured
    Dummet should start at LB
Hart, Fernandinho and Navas are in my fantasy team.
    Negatives….
To many to list and i’d rather not

  • 9 JackButler // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:23 PM

How or why where Arsenal wrong to bid for Cabaye?

the window is open and doesn’t stop just because we have a game

  • 10 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:23 PM

I would like to personally thank Pardew for these drubbings :

    5-0 Spurs
    7-3 Arsenal
    3-0 Mackems
    6-0 Liverpool
    4-1 City
    3-0 City
    3-0 Man U

    Alan Pardew, my hero

the problem with signing players over the next two weeks, we will rush/panic buy.
why wait til season starts/ deadline day to sign players, get them in early so they can practice with the team.

  • 12 geordie157 // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:23 PM

Debuchy was awful, dummett came on showed more experienced defenders how to defend.

Tiote far too slow to release the ball at times, needs to just sit in front of the back four and hassle players like he used to.

  • 13 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:24 PM

Cabaye’s not our best player. Ben Arfa and Marveaux are much better. Cabaye doesn’t do enough in games and deserves to be sold.

  • 14 jordijohnty // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:24 PM

Most of us want Pardew out, but if the bookies favourites are right, here’s your options.
    poyet
    kinnear
    clarkie
    lennon
    maclaren
    redknapp
    girard
    solkskaer
    martinez (?)
    bruce (?)
    pearce, curbishley(!), shearer etc.etc

Whatever way you look at it, it is all GRIM

  • 15 Toon1978 // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:24 PM

Alderweireld should be bought ASAP. Thauvan should be brought in ASAP. Two strikers are needed ASAP. Its as simple as that. I thought we only needed one or two but that is totally been blown out of the water.

  • 16 joeinthecheapseats // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:24 PM

Steven Taylor what a liability Mbwia looked better in that position second half
Well done Dummett Krul and Colo rest were very poor tonight men against boys
Hopefully this sparks Ashley into action with some signings
Very soon and possibly a change of manager

  • 17 kilcline // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:24 PM

    Spot on Jonny.

Need pace and enthusiasm in that side.

  • 18 Hettoon // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:24 PM

on a lighter note, perhaps ‘the line’ we are struggling to get players over is the border between Spain and Gibraltar

Can someone post Pardews post match interview when it comes up as im sure it will reassure me and make me feel much better….

  • 20 hotdog // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:24 PM

Indian. That one went through my head. They have had an extra 48 hours blah blah blah

Could be very eventful next sat. Pardew might need his tin hat ;-)

    Jonny

Yep, add Will Hughes to that list from Derby

  • 22 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:25 PM

    Repost…

Horrendous display. Yes, we never expected to win this but the manner in which we went out from kick-off was all wrong. It’s a sad day for this football club. To have a manager whose incompetence is only beaten by an even more feckless Joe Kinnear, an owner who frankly doesn’t care one iota, content simply to get by and commit to the bare minimum. Put all that aside and there’s still issues with the players at our disposal – there can be no denying Debuchy, Taylor and Tiote should be nowhere near our first team on the basis of their continually disappointing performances. But they will be, they’ll be chosen by a manager committed to defending the indefensible, only beaten by the man who should care most: supposedly the owner of this football club, Mr. Mike Ashley.

I know it’ll be hard but try not to get too down on the back of this performance. The optimist inside me says it would be silly to read too much into this game and the pessimist says there will be much worse to come this season. Either way, at this desperate stage of the club’s existence, as fans we must stick together.

  • 25 naptoon // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:26 PM

Reality check for the deluded optimists. This squad is not good enough or deep enough.

  • 26 colwell // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:27 PM

I thought we gave a good account for ourselves are you taking the p1ss PARDS

  • 27 believeintoon // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:27 PM

I disagree with the people happy with Guti’s injury.
I think he was the better player in the team because at least he showed some passion and desire to try to change the game.

And maybe I’m one of the few that does not blame pardew.
Don’t take me wrong, I’m not satisfied with his tactics and the football he shows.I want a better manager as well.
But I feel that the problem will not be solved with just sacking pardew.
We need to change the board, force out Ashley!

  • 28 JackButler // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:27 PM

Pardew claims we gave a good account of ourselves up until the sending off………………….IS HE FOR REAL?????

  • 32 NUFCarter // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:28 PM

Ashley won’t spend any more money. If we get relegated he will pocket the 60+ mil and F off. If we don’t he’ll stay until we do (making no signings and selling our best players) and F off. He won’t lose nowt and he couldn’t care less about NUFC. His next project will be Rangers oh poor poor Rangers.

Dont forget to thank the players on the pitch. Oh i forgot its all pardew. In fact it was a disgrace how he got sent off, turned his back in the wall, was weak as pis*, bottled it and gave away that free kick. Come on pardew sort it out :-)

  • 38 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:30 PM

    Pardew – got to go
Starting with Gut Rot when not fit
Taking off Goufron instead of Cisse
Bringing on Shirley Ameobi for HBA
Taylor absolute liability – should never wear a TOON shirt again.

Plus points Dummet and Tiote for me

Me thinks Pardew might walk tonight leaving Kinnear in charge for Saturday

  • 39 geordieman1011 // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:30 PM

Can’t just let Cabaye go for £10mil, that would be completely fool hardy. Anything less than £25m in today’s climate would be daylight robbery, and only if we have a player to replace him.

  • 40 believeintoon // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:30 PM

I agree with what pardew said
He prepared including Cabaye for today but everything changed with that bid

  • 41 Ginger // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:30 PM

There was a few positives to take from the match.

Dummet looks decent, will never be world class but looks good.

    Ben-Arfa is getting fit again.

Anita is really good in my opinion, would love players similar to him. They could keep the ball all day long.

Guttierez played well until the injury.

WE PLAYED IT ON THE DECK. Most of our passing was slick, in triangles, just generally really good. There was still some misskicks and a couple of punts forward but it’s hellishly improved from last season.

Overall, I’m disappointed but happy at the same time.

Think we should start the next game:

    ——————-Krul———————-
    Santon–Mbiwa–Collocini–Dummet
    ——————-Anita———————
    ———–Tiote———Sissoko———-
    —Ben-Arfa—Gouffran——Guttierez

We need to improve on the left-wing and CM areas as I’d prefer a more creative midfielder apposed to Tiote.

  • 42 89Norcal // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:30 PM

    @believeintoon

I’m definitely a staunch supporter of benching Jonas, but I can’t say I was happy to see him off with an injury.

May have been stunted as usual in his offense but he did put a bit of pressure of them. Problem is our tactics had everyone exhausted rather quickly. Mbiwa, Sissoko, Guti and Debuchy were all over the pitch.

  • 43 BuckLuck // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:30 PM

You can’t blame Cabaye for wanting to leave us. Ashley, Pardew, Kinnear… we totaly lack proffesionalism. The only plus is the fans.

  • 44 geordie157 // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:30 PM

to be fair Sammy didn’t look to bad, but always hard to judge a player when the opposition are 3-0 up. Dummett definitely did well, showed Navas down the line and maybe a couple of well timed challenges to stop the crosses. Always made two good runs forward.

Wouldn’t mind seeing Dummett left back with Santon right back.

We need a bit more fight in the side, think if cabaye goes James McCarthy would give us a player who works his socks off.

I’d personally take 5mill for Tiote and get Bridcutt in to replace him.

No surprises tonight. The sending off was stupidity and I hope Staylor gets a hefty club fine. I also hope Ashley and Kinnear realise that we must strengthen. But unlike others on ere I cannot admire City – It leaves a rancid taste in my mouth that a side that bought the league 2 years ago and finished second last year, spent £92 million pounds this summer ADDING to that squad. If that’s Fair Play in football, I don’t know what foul play would look like. Don’t care what anybody else thinks on here – I think it’s OBSCENE and riuins football. I for one seriously hope City do NOT win the league.

  • 65 AaranD // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:35 PM

Think the saving grace is that it was against City where we would of been beaten playing good or not.

A much improved performance has to happen against WHU, some hunger and desire from the players just to show the fans that they want to correct the wrong doings.

  • 66 ochytoon // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:35 PM

Blaming the loss on Cabaye’s absence. Pathetic.

The players we have bought really aren’t that good, Tiote, Cisse and Cabaye appear to be one season wonders. Debuchy hasn’t had a good game yet.
Pardew is a complete and utter tosspot who can’t admit when he’s wrong and clearly doesn’t know how to coach a football team.
Our backroom staff are obviously of low quality. John Carver was not at any big clubs after leaving us and I have doubts over his, and others, coaching abilities.
Ashley is a knob, plain and simple. Has no ambition to have us compete with the big teams and is only content on just about surviving in the league.
Joe Kinnear…. Need I say more.

Our club is a joke and we need a fresh start. Management and coaching staff need to leave. A number of our French contingent need to leave. But most importantly, Ashley needs to do one and never touch another football club as long as he lives. The man is a cancer and has ruined our great club. Not that we’ve really been great since the Sir Bobby days.

We are the only club with such a negative atmosphere and no ambition from the summer.
Really a worry for the new season.
    Why is this happening?
Are MA and JFK an idiot?

  • 71 LGFUAD21 // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:37 PM

Been saying it for months now. Our main problem isn’t our lack of quality. For a club of our stature and recent years achievements we don’t really deserve much more quality.

Our problem is poor coaching. Every week we see the same mistakes made that any decent manager could correct.

Defenders not tracking their man. Full backs not containing or pushing players wide.

A complete lack of tempo in our game allowing teams to structure around us.

A striker that is isolated at times or apparently unwilling to fight.

A lack of patience to unlock teams.

Hba and krul were decent considering. I thought Anita showed why he should play. Moussa is given far too much credit for a guy that can run but not do much else. Tiote doesn’t release the ball quick enough.

Anita on the other hand tried to get passes away. Was seldom caught up field. He looked comfortable on the ball and not afraid. He wasn’t amazing but he showed something the rest of our team failed to.

Worst of all you could smell fear through the TV. W looked no different to hull yesterday. I’ve had it with pardew and his back room staff. It’s time to invest in a manager that can play the modern game.

For me a decent manager would be worth 3 quality signings. Look at what lambert has achieved at Norwich and now villa (and I’m not just talking villa arsenal game, anybody that watched them last season would see he was building a smart team) look at laudrup at swansea.

IMO we have more quality in our squad than Everton bar our defence but they eclipse us because they have been coached to play properly.

  • 72 Marty-Toon // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:37 PM

Nearly laughed when Ed didn’t even mention Gutierrez
In the match report as he didn’t actually do anything
In the game apart from give their RB loads
    Of space to run into.
Absolutely shocking player, sad to say that I’m glad
    A player is injured
Debuchy was also shocking as was Tayls, the second goal
he should’ve done a lot better for
AP thinks Jonas is his best outlet but he gives the
    team nothing
This is a disaster even though we didn’t expect a draw
or a win but we expect our boys to be able to pass
the ball to each other but NO we can’t do that
We miffed right now,we’ll get beat by the Hammers
next at home and its probably best that Cabaye
goes now but can we get someone of quality that
actually wants to play for this joke of a team?
Love the club-hate what we’ve become

I used to like Taylor, thought he played with his heart, but over last couple of years has lost it a bit. his mentality seems to be he has made it and he isn’t doing the simple things well.
the worst thing he does, which shows what he is like, is when he jumps up and down in front of opposition keeper at a free kick. He even did it in a pre season friendly at Blackpool.
took my daughter (4 yo) to that game, got some autographs afterwards, all players seemed decent except taylor who was full of himself.

playing for NUFC wont do that because as of now, we are a relegation battler team

    2) Steven Taylor the OVERRATED geordie defender – he been a liability for the last 5 years therefore glad he is suspended for the next 3 games.

    3) Cisse is useless. cant even do the basic of football – to HOLD the ball.

    4) I said this before, i dont know why we bought Anita. he done nothing. a centre midfield who didnt get much of the ball

    5) Debuchy is our weakest link, slow at time. maybe no competition at RB?

It’s classless to put in a bid so soon before the team has a match to play. It is utterly unforgivable. You might think ethics and football do not coexist but for me there are standards, and the move by Arsenal was a classless one, no bones about it.

    (repost)

I don’t completely agree with the Pardew critics. He may not have perfect tactics, but the players has to take some blame. Even if Pardew was manager of City, the players are smart enough to make something happen regardless… We don’t have players who’re smart enough, part from Ben Arfa or Marveaux. Our players can’t even pass to each other. We lose the ball WAY to easy, and that is NOT entirely Pardew’s fault. Cisse’s touch especially is woeful, and he allways is too predictable in where he turning. He’s not good enough in our link-up play, can’t even hold up the ball. Every good team has either a clever, all-round good, pacey or physical striker. Cisse has got none of that, sorry! Sacking Pardew would be a mistake! We just need better strikers. Work on ball control, desicion making and passing. Not reading too much into this match, but the players need to better themselves for the rest of the season. Better the devils you know (Ashley, Pards). Invest in another striker, and him/ Remy will do. Work on that passing!!!!!!!

Anyway, that’s what I think, and I really hope Newcastle will rise again SOONER rather than later. Can’t wait for Remy to play

  • 107 Beattie25 // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:46 PM

I want someone to answer me this.

On Friday Manchester United put a £28 million bid in for Leighton Baines and Mouranne Fellani. Everton rejected the bid out of hand, decided against leaking the news to the press in order to ensure the team wasn’t distracted by the press, both players played and Everton got a decent 2-2 draw but more importantly, produced a very flood display.

Newcastle received a bid on Sunday. The bid was rejected. Yohan Cabaye was left out of the squad, the news was leaked a day later and in bizarre circumstances the news that it was rejected was revealed and hour or 2 after. The manager pre match states that he chose the team based on what he believed would be the best 11 to get a result and once we were hammered he says the team he picked wasn’t good enough because Cabaye wasn’t there. He also reveals that the bid has unsettled Cabaye, hence why the man isn’t playing.

This fcuking stinks. Yet again you’re all being lied to but most can’t see the wood for the trees.

I don’t give two f***s if cabaye wasn’t in the right frame of mind. 60k a week +, get the fk in the right frame. Shitty little c**t. He’s just dropped us in the mire twice in one night. First letting the team down, second giving arsenal leverage to get him cheaper. If he wants to go fine, but get on the pitch and add to your value. Really sets the mood for the season doesn’t it? People dream of being a footballer and you get @rseholes like that throwing a piss fit because the club won’t accept a bid equivalent to asking your mate for a go on his mrs in exchange for cutting of his tackle.

  • 111 jonobbad // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:47 PM

    Cant blame cabaye?

I dont care how much ambition we lack or when a bid was made or even by whom. As long as he is being payer by our club the little turd should be on the pitch giving 100% for the cause.
Its players like him that get their heads turned that are a plague to football.

I think you’re completely wrong there, to be honest.

The fact is, one week ago Arsene Wenger told everyone that Arsenal do their business behind closed doors. Then, in a panic reaction to their fans going crazy, they leak the news to the press that they’re after Cabaye.

I love it how players come here and suddenly they look very average . Cabaye (title winner) M’biwa (title winner) and the rest of our team is filled with internationals that usually play well for their country.

The common denominator is our tactics and coaching staff. If you can’t see that I don’t know how to convince you.

  • 123 Twatter // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:49 PM

The truth of the matter is as things stand it would be silly and short-sighted to simply blame AP for the way the club is going.

Mike Ashley should be the main port of call for anyone who wants to criticise the way this club has been run. I, like many others, believe Pardew is not fit to manage this team but nevertheless at least he tries – however ineffective his answers. Ashley on the other hand deliberatelysaps all the money from this club and its loyal fans and gives nothing in return.

So a word of warning to you lot: the next time you criticise NUFC as a club, start first with Mike Ashley. Pardew wishes he had more control but he doesn’t. He is a pawn in this currently unfolding disaster and you give him too much credit by making him the focal point of your criticisms.

  • 124 papscrunt // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:49 PM

Most of the time the ‘Wasn’t in the right frame of mind’ comes from the club. They know the player will leave and they don’t want him injured. And by saying that they make the player look bad and it helps them not lose face when the player goes.

  • 125 Papiss_Myself // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:51 PM

We need a striker is an understatement. Cisse looked like he couldn’t give a f*#k.

So deflated its unreal. How much of it is Pardews fault I don’t know. Bad, bad, bad business by Newcastle yet again.
Not to worry though, come January when we are struggling around the relegation spot we will sign another 7 cheap shite French players.

It’s not so much about teaching. It’s about conditioning. You’ll be surprised at how some players probably don’t even realise they are doing it. Or don’t have the consciousness in the heat of a game. A good coach will breed it in to players so it becomes second nature.

Shocking performance. The team lacks guts and doesn’t look like anyone wants to play for each other. Dummett solid and Krul was incredible. Hopefully this wakes Ashley up. I don’t want any dodgy panic buys though, we need good recognised players. Alderwield is a must. A striker is a must, gouffran lacks quality and Cisse was shocking tonight, he can’t contribute anything except goals, which he isn’t getting as we can’t create anything. For me Gomis isn’t good enough. We need a link between the strikers and sissoko and anita who should be sitting. Tiote is THE worst player in our team, the amount of times he gives the ball away trying to play a Alex Song ball is unbelievable. De Jong would be perfect and Mccarthy as well. Tom ince or Sinclair would be ideal. So to sum up. Pardew is shit, we need about 5 players. However we will get 2 or 3 dodgy panic buys and if we do get someone class, Pardew will end up playing them in the wrong positions and formations. I want to be optimistic, but there is literally nothing to look forward to. This is so much of a joke that we may as well make JK manager and just have a laugh about it.

  • 139 Sawbuck // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:57 PM

“What Arsenal have done is nothing we wouldn’t do”

Surely you’re not implying that what Mike Ashley and Joe Kinnear would do is some sort of example to follow?

Mike Ashley has done plenty of awful things that embarrass and ashame us all, just because he’d do something doesn’t mean it’s right!

And I’d bet it was Arsenal who leaked it. Firstly, the timing is coincidental after yesterdays fan outcry. Secondly, Sky broke the news – Newcastle always leak stuff through local journos. Thirdly, Sky also reported Arsenal bidding/enquiring for three other players on the same day.

  • 146 Beattie25 // Aug 19, 2013 at 10:59 PM

Sad thing is that this will not be sorted.

This initial anger will subside as people tell you that Man City are too good, that we would’ve been beaten anyway, that it was all Cabayes fault, and soon we will all be focused on West Ham where the usual blind optimism will stem from supporters of the regime.

We will start to believe we are a decent team and that we play good football and everything will be ok, but another abject, soulless, clueless and poor display will be on show and the whole repeating pattern will start again.

If this was any other club, there’d be protests outside the ground tomorrow. There’d be calls to boycott, screams of displeasure, voices calling for action and fans responding to them.

Here we just support the club blindly and are so afraid to miss a 1-0 against West Ham that we would not fight for the future of this club.

I’m boycotting games, merchandise and all Ashley related money making ventures and if anyone wants to organise a stand against him I’ll be there.

Think debuchy took the cabaye news the worst! What a stinker he had. People keep saying cisse needs service but what we need is a target man. Our team craves one. Cisse was so light weight and contributes absolutly nothing. Was gutted when he brought goofy off instead of cisse. Big target man urgent.

P.s. we are so bad in the air. Will be our downfall mark my words! Bedtime!

  • 154 Jamesthefirst // Aug 19, 2013 at 11:02 PM

I would bet any money the rejected bid was leaked by Cabaye’s agent to ensure his client didn’t have to play for us again.

He wants out, and to be honest can you blame him? He looked fed up last season. He is wasting his career at Newcastle. And he knows it.

I’m pretty sure MA could literally turn up to SJP and urinate on the fans in the terraces, and they’d still turn up to every match for a pie and a pint.

I’ve always admired the people who give the club such loyal support, at home and all over Europe, but there comes a point where you’re simply paying £40 a week to be laughed at.

Dont know how much more i can take of these idiots running our club , it really is a joke and its spread all the way down to academy level we arn’t even rated class 1 there either these days , i’ve worked with football everyday for 20 years and played for my beloved toon when i was a lad this fat cockney and his cronies have made a mug out the best supporters in the world for too long , i could write a book about the unprofessional way the clubs been run the past few years from the non signings down to the amateur play/coaching on the pitch, now its just PATHETIC on all fronts feel sorry for the players, fans and the decent folk on the staff at the toon the spirit is gone from our club.
God knows if we’ll ever get it back……….Gutted man

Man Utd did the exact same the day before Evertons game.

Did Everton capitulate? Did Martinez spit his dummy out? Did Fellani and Baines refuse to play/dropped?

Im not advocating Arsenal but these bids happen all the time. It’s how the club with the offer on the table react that makes the difference. We chose to cry over it where other clubs are resilient.

  • 158 check the toastie // Aug 19, 2013 at 11:03 PM

There was no reason why Arsenals ridiculous bid was just seen as that and Cabaye was told he is staying going nowhere and get his head around playing. Responsibility lies with our knobhead of a manager who was probably looking for his latest excuse.

He is such a dick. A complete loser on top of that. Cabaye should have played, told he was and that was the end of it, but no. lets all have a drama. Pathetic.

Pardew yet again trying to deflect responsibility.

AMC should do that!! Cabaye is heading to other clubs pretty SURE, bring will hughes, thomas ince and friggin any striker in!( LACINA TRAORE), Anzhi need to offload him! and we need pacey +arl threat striker.

  • 161 NUFC FOR SALE // Aug 19, 2013 at 11:05 PM

    Anita is a good player

If Keegan was manager Anita would start every game because Keegan would know how to use him.

Face facts if Pardew had his way we wouldn’t have Anita, Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Cisse, Sissoko, Marvaeux etc….we’d happy Carlton Cole, Bobby Zamora, and another dozen plodders.

We have a decent squad with 4 good quality additions it could be a great team but it matters not as we have a manager who has to go down as the most clueless manager I have ever known in my time supporting newcastle,

  • 162 Slater // Aug 19, 2013 at 11:05 PM

In a 4-0 defeat, it’s hard to say this but I was really impressed by Mbiwa and Dummett. They looked very composed whenever a threat was near. Cisse was muscled off every ball he got near it.. City were brilliant though.

What I’m saying is that this type of thing happens all the time in football and I don’t understand the outcry simply because it’s happened against us. If this was the only time that it had happened then fair enough

There has been an outcry towards Wenger and Arsenal’s lack of spending all summer so this can’t be just a knee jerk reaction to their result against Villa and why is it that Baines and Fellini can still put in a performance for Everton yet Cabaye has had his head turned?

I’m not a conspiracy theorist but I’d bet that we have removed him the squad to protect him form the possibility of injury so the deal can and will go through

  • 164 geordie1892 // Aug 19, 2013 at 11:05 PM

What the hell has happened to Tiote? Absolute liability.

I like to try and be optimistic but that was p!ss poor. I expected defeat but the lack of fight and passion makes me seriously worried for the coming season.

We need a win and more importantly a spirited display against West Ham or we are fcuked!

  • 165 Sazzer // Aug 19, 2013 at 11:06 PM

I don’t get why a bid would change anything. It feels like an yet another excuse. Unless Arsenal wants Cabaye in their squad against Fenerbache. I don’t see why he wouldn’t give his all against City today and play for another team next week if that what they agree on.

  • 166 Zero // Aug 19, 2013 at 11:06 PM

Throw in plenty of penny pinching and a moron director of football who still lives in the dark ages and has a serious personality disorder.

    I agree 100%.

I’ve said for a while now that a vast majority of nufc fans see it as a day out. They take the shirt of the hanger, go out and have a few beers, go and watch the match, rant about it afterwards, put the shirt back on the hanger and return to normality.

They have no care about the long term plan for this club, they don’t care enough about the style of football, the quality of the team, the passion from the players.

They want what Ashley wants, Newcastle to stay in the prem so they can enjoy watching them against big clubs. They accept mediocrity because it means they can enjoy Pl football.

BPC actually I am annoyed at these result but I am not brainwashed by tis stupid belief that any player from a different league is a super star as carr found him I look at the facts.

    1. team such as lyon hardly ever progress beyond the group stages of the CL

    2. this is call the premier league a league which is physical and fast the French league is a league with players take ages to close down on the opposition

3.the fact that we lost out on remy to a team that was already virtually relegated.

4.when ba got put back into the centre right away he was back to scoring lots cisse on the other hand goes into the centre in January but is always offside.

    5. when simmo and raylor were FB we had a excellent defence and the midfield were always able to get forward then santon replaced raylor due to injury and goals started leaking then we change to a 4-2-3-1 concerned about the leaks with our defence then simmo goes causing the right to get leaky too.

  • 179 fatman // Aug 19, 2013 at 11:17 PM

lets not blame Pardew its not his fault he gets 1% of all sales, that might have something to do with Cabaye being left out they cant play an injured player as only we buy crocks, every player has a price, if they are offered the money the player goes, its Ashley’s way out, he cant sell the club so he will sell player by player, then sell for £50m-£80m when we go down, we are just as poison to him as he is to us.

  • 180 stuart no9 // Aug 19, 2013 at 11:17 PM

you cant just blame pardew for this league 3 side he has put together, Ashley – kinnear- pardew , look at those 3 names, 3 names that wouldnt know class if a big concrete slab fell from the sky with class written all over it, and hit them on the head, the 3 have to go, newcastle will not recover from this ,and if they do , it will be half a dozen games from now but they will be rooted to the bottom of the league and will be too late anyway,
People who know football will probably know , tonight they have witnessed the worst team the prem has ever seen with the worst perfomance the prem has ever seen, tonight was ashleys night , his 5 year plan starting to take effect, the 5 years he has predicted it will take before nufc are the laughing stock of world football and not give us a sniff of a chance to to rectify it.
Dont think because 52000 fans turn up at SJP for the next game it will make them play better – it wont, this performance has shaped us for the season- the long miserable season ahead,
We were lucky tonight – it should have been 8 , if i was the man city manager i would be ripping into my team for wasting so many chances, luckily it wasnt man u or chelsea we were playing.
The 3 wise men have to go . what is needed is boycotts demos , riots who cares , they have to be removed now, BOYCOTT.

Wish we had sold Tiote instead of Perch. Pardew is clueless , I wish Ashley would have sorted this out earlier, offering him an 8 year contract was bonkers. If we had someone like Laudrup as manager, life would be so positive

  • 182 West Lancs Geordie // Aug 19, 2013 at 11:19 PM

Get real all you optimists. We are officially a selling club. Cabs is on his way to whoever but we won’t have a replacement lined up. Why did we not start recruiting in June because Ashley has no intention of spending. Who of any substance is going to be attracted to us? WE are already in a relegation dogfight. Injuries pre kick off Remy, Santon now Guti. Taylor banned for 3. Sold 3 Englishmen in key cover areas – not replaced. Willo, Obertan, Gosling and several more not good enough even to offload (nobody wants them). If we are going to have to rely on youngsters why let Campbell & Ferguson go out on loan. There was no passion tonight & one of the few Englishmen we have was stupid & naive. From Cabs money must spend wisely : Tom Ince £8M (young, quick, goals & English) Then we must trawl big clubs for loan players : Milner, Vermalen, Lescott even Ba. Think £15M for McCarthy would be too much.Forget Gomis . But batten down the hatches we are in for a real bumpy ride but whats new with this regime?

  • 184 wynsleap // Aug 19, 2013 at 11:26 PM

In nearly 60 years of watching the Toon rarely have I seen a full back display as bad as Debuchy’s tonight.
The people who slagged off Danny Simpson should be hanging their heads in shame tonight as the lad never had a game anywhere near as bad as that in his time at the Toon.
Even a young kid came on at left full back for his first ever first team performance and made him look like an amateur.
People say that Cisse looked disinterested. Wouldn’t you with that level of service and response. The guy was made to look foolish wandering around on his own up front.
Why take Ben Arfa off – he looked fit and hungry and made some decent runs. Anita is second rate at best.
Taylor is finished at this club in my opinion. Never fully fit he has now developed into a player who runs around the defensive area like a headless chicken and still hasn’t learned to keep his arms by his side.
Felt sorry for Tim Krul tonight – without four fabulous saves we would have been looking at a total massacre. His body language seemed to suggest he wasn’t exactly impressed with the team’s performance.
We now know that we need two strikers, a decent right back and also a creative midfielder seeing as poor pussy Cabaye didn’t ‘get his head right’ for tonight. Bravery of the first order from our overhyped Monsieur.
This club is up to it’s neck in impending disaster. Fans must mobilise to get Ashley OUT of Toon or we are going to be the biggest laughing stock in Premiership history.

  • 185 West Lancs Geordie // Aug 19, 2013 at 11:32 PM

To all you who said City were brilliant – they bloody well should be for all the money theyve spent. They could have put out a far better team than us from players on the bench & not even in the squad. The Premiership is stuffed. Far better for the rest of the teams if Man U , Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs & Liverpool created their own Elite League. WE wouldn’t have to be content in finishing 15th & put out weaken teams in Capital One & FA Cups just to try & preserve our Prem survival. It’s a nonesense! Bet we don’t take five points from those six teams this season!

  • 186 chrisj9 // Aug 19, 2013 at 11:38 PM

Firstly well done Krul and Dummet, also thought sissoko did ok defensively in second half, the rest were very poor, debuchy especially poor, every time i see newcastle on tv Tiote missplaces passes or looses the ball, which is a shame and i thought we looked pretty much like last season. Y steven taylor was deliberatly trying to get sent off i dont know, i think at best he should only be used as cover. Cabaye for me all summer even before kinnear arrived was trying to engineer a move away, it just shows his lack of loyalty, I don’t think Ben Arfa is as loyal as he should n could be either given his comments a few months ago. As for pardew i think we need to get a new fresh manager, maybe like poyet, and as for mike n joe we need signings quick, I commented on the gomis transfer when we’d had a big accepted every1 was happy but I said I don’t think he’ll sign due to his agent fees, and I also said cabaye would leave before we spend anything, Douglas should of been signed and we should of got gomis or Sum1 very similar up top, poor game for us, to say the leaat

  • 187 toonicle // Aug 20, 2013 at 12:52 AM

Tiote was basically useless, unfortunate that Anita wasn’t a whole lot better but he hasn’t had many first team chances to be fair. The whole thing was pretty much a disaster.

  • 188 The overrated Frenchman // Aug 20, 2013 at 1:54 AM

Part of the problem is that we bought these European players primarily because they were available and cheap. There clearly wasn’t a systematic plan of building a team and a style of play. What position was Anita bought to fill? What role is Sissoko meant to be playing? And Gouffran? (Not that they are much good anyway). And as someone remarked, Cabaye was a one-season wonder (along with Cisse and Tiote). Debuchy was obviously brought in to play right back, and obviously can’t. And if Jonas is supposed to be a winger, well he ain’t.

First game yeah, but no real prospect of any improvement that I can see. We looked just like we looked last season, and that wasn’t pretty. It’s quite possible that at the end of the season the table will be the same as it is today. Man City on top, NUFC on the bottom.
