Alan Pardew talked today and said that Arsenal had not come back with an improved bid for Yohan Cabaye, and it seems the Newcastle manager still carries some hope that Yohan Cabaye will still be a Newcastle player come September 3rd, the day after the summer transfer window slams shut.
Yohan Cabaye – no new Arsenal bid – yet
And we think owner Mike Ashley will stick to his guns, and only sell the French International if the club get an Andy Carroll like bid, which the club cannot turn down, and the most likely club that will come from is not Arsenal, but PSG.
This is what Alan Pardew said today:
“The most important thing about this whole scenario is that the club wins. That is what comes first on my shift. So if he stays, we really need to get the best out of him.”
“You cannot go on a forecourt of a car showroom and say to the dealership, “here is my valuation and I’m just going to drive it off”. It does not work like that.”
“You have got to agree a price, and only then can you drive it off. We have had one bid and it was not acceptable.” “Cabaye is a great player.”
“In my opinion, he is one of the best in the world in that position, and I have worked with Michael Carrick and Mascherano, so I like to think I know.”
“And I have a good relationship with Yohan. I think it is important that it stays a good relationship for him and for me and for this club.” “And there has to be a way back for Yohan as well.”
“So I have to be very careful in these next 10 days where there is a solution and he moves on, but there is also a solution that he continues to play for us. “
“Therefore I have to be seen to be fair and to be managing the whole picture.”
It would be goof if we can keep Yohan on Tyneside, but on the other hand, the Frenchman has to be committed to Newcastle United.
We’ll be pleased when this transfer window is over, and we’ll see where Newcastle stand – but if we can keep Yohan Cabaye and get Bafetimbi Gomis through the door, we’ll be happy enough.
And we’d be even happier of we can bring in a top class center-back to add competition in central defense.
But in the future, Newcastle just have to show a lot more ambition than has been shown this summer.
The fans want Newcastle United to be great again, and we cannot do that by penny-pinching all the time..

Comment #41Obertan may not be a bad shout. Just tell him to run into the oppositino half and pass the ball safely and carefully to anyone near him. This way we might actually get near the goal…

Is it really utter rubbish? Pride? This is football and an excellent source of income. Defending 1-0’s. Defensive tactics screams getting enough points on the board. To me, anyway, he is the most professional person at the club. He can only do his best within the realms he can operate. Which is not decided by him.
Can you really put the failure and turmoil of the last 6 years down to one one mans tactics and substitutions last season?
At the moment, If we hit anything above top ten it will be solely down to Pardews managerial abilities, nothing else.
We are a club with zero ambition who hires mediocre staff and bobbles about on the continent looking for bargains that is not to back our managers vision of play, but to secure big transfer fee’s in the long run. Anything we achieve is a bonus.
Pardew is not building a team here, he is merely dealing with what he is being dealt on an annual basis.

Comment #44Problem with us and i’ve said it all a long is that the way we play changes week by week, depending on who we play.
We don’t have a settled system that the players can get behind and make successful.
All the top teams have a certain style of play they stick to. That’s the sort of stability we need a footballing philosophy.
I don’t think Pardew is the man to do it.

After Debuchy awful performance he deserves the bench for at least one game and Dummet a chance.
Tiote might be out and Anita most likely in.
So then it’s choice between Obertan vs Gouffran to be made.
Marv should be certain but the again nobody would be suprised if either Gosling and one of the Ameobis gets to start over him.

We will not agree. Barcelona paid 24 m £ for him. He was one one of the better players even for Liverpool when they finished runner up both the league and CL.

Comment #47AP knows the score hw ia the one having to feed the info to the fans, maybe not so great that he has to speak for everyone at ghe club but you will find at most clubs the manager istghe mouthpiece.
AP though picks the team, positions and formations, we look at the line up and think not to bad apart from the fact he wont play a younger player over a senior and has not ever, its time Dummet is noq given that chance, Santon fit or not, Dummet IMO us the best all round defender at our club, pace heading ability tackling positional sense, no weakness coupled with the fact he has a terrific left foot and puts a wicked cross in makes him complete all round best defender at ghe club! But mist players are nor playing for our manager when they coss that white line.

Comment #50How are any new incomers going to feel working for a club under this regime? With zero ambition.
Look at Cabaye now. He knows he will never see any Champions League while he is here? How many times has Ben Arfa spoke out now about ambition? Colo wanted away.
Whilst we are a stepping stone club for any gold nugget we find, we are also a club with no ambition.
Where does that leave us fans?
We have nothing to look forward to.
Shocking state of affairs.

Comment #51“I will put my own money in to keep them”
“I will spend £20,000 or £30,000 and put my money in to keep them for as long as we can, because I care and I want to win. I’m sure with them we have more chance to win.”
“I’m not going to start selling my houses in Italy, but I want to keep those players,”
“When I die I will have a bit less money but will have the victory as a manager.

Pardews biography will be a belter. So long as he’s honest 😉
Sazzer,
Bad news, as I was hoping this would turn into a bidding war just like Mike and Alan wants to orchestrate.
To be fair, we have been putting all our targets in the shop window for a long time. It’s obvious what our transfer structure is.

Comment #57As Toon Prodigy said….People should lay off giving constant stick to Pardew. Every manager has their own style….if a club hire them it means they are prepared to accept their style and support them with a suitable budget and squad of players.
Pardew has not had that backing at all. It’s ok to say that after last seasons finish of 16th, it’s right for him to not have had that financial backing but then you must say that after he managed to finish 5th….he should have been supported that summer with the players he wanted (I’m sure he would not have just asked for Anita).
The truth is Pardew does not get a say in transfers….he has made us finish 5th and 16th….it is only fair that we give him this season to see how he does. He is already at a disadvantage by the Ashley making the squad even smaller this summer….letting go of 3 players and bringing 1 in loan. Nevertheless Pardew deserves one more full season. Too many people are so quick to bring down the hammer….I remember how, after we finished 5th back in 2004…people were saying “Bobby has ost the dressing room…he is too old….players like dyer jenas etc don’t respect him….get rid of him etc”….just because we finished ONE PLACE below champs league spot after 2 years in a row. SBR should have had another season but he was not allowed….and the decline started.
If Pardew flops this season then he must go….but he deserves this season…and he deserves financial backing.
I for one am quietly hoping Cabaye stays and we bring in 1 or 2 more players!!

Comment #59Pardew- ‘The bottom line is that we have a procedure in place to get transfers in and now Joe is directly the in-line manager for the board and Mike, the owner, so therefore I request to him what I think the team needs and he has to try to get them over the line. We all work together to do that.
‘There is a process where he comes in but the proof is in the pudding really and we have to make sure we get one or two transfers over the line before deadline.’
‘This has been a particularly poor week on a number of levels. But you get that. Sometimes adversity comes, so let’s get it out of the way, let’s sort ourselves out and make sure we are ready to rumble in the 37 games left.’
–You gotta admit Pardew can Talk the Talk but can he Walk the Walk? Last season he was not backed and we suffered this season seems to be going in the same direction. It’s obvious he’s as frustrated as we are in this window and with Joe Kinnear.
Let’s hope we finally get one/some/any ‘over the line’.

Comment #60I think next week will be one of the massive weeks for a transfer window in recent history. I think Arsenal will go big for Cabaye and Suarez in desperation, hopefully we can bring in Manual Fernandes earlier and if we end up with Cabaye as well, well that surely would force Pardew to go 433??
I think we are in for some surprises tomorrow and next week. There has to be a strategy, I don’t think Ashley would have punted Llambias and brought in JFK to frustrate us.
It all comes down to the next 2 games, we shall see where we truly are and I hope Cabaye plays, and reiterates his desire to keep fighting for this club until he leaves, when that may be.

Comment #62the way Cabaye played last season it’s best if he moves on, the way Pardew was buttering him up a couple of weeks ago “top professional player” and all that crap, I thought there was something up then, it reminded me when Ba was after a move, the way I see it he is far from professional by a country mile, I hope he takes his useless mate with him to. Simpson was by far a better player

Comment #64@thai – almost everyone was very poor last season, he still had plenty of ‘moments’ like free kicks/ through balls…. maybe not corners lol.
Simpson was absolutely NOT a better footballer than Debuchy- I am worried that he is probably a better defender though.
I expected so much from him but he just hasn’t impressed. The thing I’m most dissappointed with him is, with giving away stupid penalties a close second, his attitude. It’s terrible. Has tantrums and gets himself booked/ sent off damaging the team’s effort.
I hope he’s just having a bad patch or settling in to the prem because to be 1st choice RB for France you’ve got to be pretty good- he obviously has the footballing talent with his crossing and touch just needs to be a lot smarter when defending.

Sorry, mate. I would like to correct you on Mascherano became star in Barca.
Barca don’t buy rejects, they buy world class players. they have been buying stars since Maradona era and sell them when they nolonger at their best.
Mascherano became world class star when he was with Liverpool, that’s why barca bought him. Same as Fabregas, Ibra, Silva, Jordi, Stoickov, Koeman, etc.

Comment #67On the subject of Cabaye and Debuchy, I change my mind, they are sold.
When pardew said “I hope to keep this player”, that will only mean one thing, they are gone already.
I’m only worried about when they will leave, it could be another AC scenario sold him at last second and didn’t have time to get replacement unless we can get replacement before they are sold.

Comment #69Pardew is abusing Anita in exactly the same way he tried to ruin Mascherano, its like he cant pick players under 5foot seven, the man is hightest. Wouldn’t pick Tevez due to height or Mascherano, same now applies to Marv and Anita.
Can anyone reason out why Sammi would be in front of Marv in the pecking order. I work with loads of Smoggies and they were less than impressed with him when he was on loan, that’s a bad championship side by the way. Incredulous.

Comment #70As Cab and Debu replacement probably Gattuso/Barton type of player will be better for the team. We have good players that can take Cab position as playmaker, we have Marv and HBA, I think Anita can do the job too. Anita is good player, but pardew is too brilliant to see his capability.
I would also love a player with Sinisa Mihajlovic skill, he can get us out of trouble with his free kicks. I remember when he was at Lazio, scoring directly from corner and socred hat-trick only from free-kicks.
Striker or winger if we can get one, good! but if we can’t, it’s ok. As long as we can get those 2 type of players I mentioned above.

I said the same thing few days ago, I wonder what Marv would feel even when the game is lost, he sill can’t get a game.
He must be thinking “what do I have to to get a game when the manager choose Sammy instead of me?”
pardew will be sacked in 5 games, that’s my prediction.

Comment #73Mascherano “became a star” at Liverpool and Barca. He became a great footballer in Argentina for River Plate. I saw him play centre half for Argentina back in 2004 against Brazil in Buenos, and he was top drawer already. This bloke made his SENIOR international debut before ever playing for River Plate in 2003. Within 12 months he was a first team regular, contributing to a title winning season. River Plate turned down several offers from Spain for the lad, including Real Madrid.
West Ham bought a World class footballer through the back door thanks to loopholes and illegal dealings that made Kia Joorabchian a rich(er) man.
Anyway, on topic, if as Pardew says the lad has had his head turned and isn’t in the frame of mind to play, then he should be sold. Us refusing to let him go isn’t going to help his fragile mental state. Get the deal done now though. If they want Debuchy as well, then it will need to be 10million to satisfy Ashley I think.
A big bid at the end of the window is more likely now, leaving us in an even bigger hole…..

I think we will have players coming in probably within 5 days before deadline. They should have learned, but strangest things has happened, it could be history repeat itself.
If I were Ashley, I would give deadline like 5 days before window closed for Cab and Debu transfer, after that there will be nomore bids and they wil have to stay until January window.

Comment #78World class? Though last season’s showing says anything but, I’ll go along with you AP… If that is the case, how come we NEVER dominate games?
Why isn’t Mike investing in players? The writing is on the wall: when owners have decided you are out, they hold on to the purse in order to give it to the next manager. In Ashley’s defense, even belatedly, he bought 5 (almost) first teamers a few months ago? Result: more poor football. Somebody must go and we all know who that is.
