Gomis Refuses New Contract – Why Don’t Newcastle Move In?

There is news in L’Equipe today that Bafe Gomis has refused to sign a new deal at Lyon, and as he had said consistently before Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas bizarrely announced that he wanted to sell Gomis this summer – the 28 year-old has reiterated that he will see out the last year of his contract, and will become a free agent next summer.

Bafe Gomis – refuses to sign new deal to stay at Lyon

And this is almost perfect news for Newcastle,  because Lyon are very short of cash, and they will now have to ponder whether they will allow the French International striker to stay at the club past this transfer window.

If they do that then Lyon will be losing big money on the player, and that should be extra reason for the French club to sell him to Newcastle – or to any other club  who put in a decent offer for the player in the next 11 days.

There has been significant conflict built up between Gomis and the Lyon President since Aulas said he wanted to sell him this summer, and Gomis was forced to train with the Reserves, but Gomis has stood his ground well.

Joe Kinnear – time to move in and sign Gomis

And there could be a happy ending in all of this for Gomis and Newcastle, a very happy ending – if only the Tyneside club would move in and sign the player in the next week.

Time to move Joe, and get your first permanent signing for Newcastle.

    Gomis in would be a start at least. Mourinho has said some players may be going out on loan from Chelsea, Moses in on loan & maybe Lukaku if they bring in a striker would be good for the club & mean Ashley doesn’t have to spend as he seems very reluctant to part with the clubs money!

    From last thread to keep the Anita fies burning he he –

    I am not bitching about Anita I am just saying that he isn’t the game changer and never will be, but he could be a very effective midfielder if our system and the players around him were changed a bit. Just saying what I see. There are reasons he doesn’t start much.

    Don’t get me started on Vukic though. Time and opportunity has passed him by, another promising youth player that fades as a man. Sad but thats football.

    He wants to become a free agent so he can sign for Marseilles on some sort of arrangement that has already been decided between the player and the club. I think this is why his Agent made such a valiant effort of derailing our initial efforts to sign him.

    @Mr Magpie

    Lukaku would be a great loan signing for the team, come in for a season and show Cisse how it’s done.

    If you are Anita’s size to prosper in the Prem you need either pace, a trick, aggression or preferably all three.

    Anita is a tidy technical footballer but he doesn’t have any of the above qualities and thats why imo he doen’t make an impact. You can’t stroll around in the Prem like you can in the Dutch league.

    Added benefit of him being so huge that even Jonas would be able to pick him out for a cross. hehe

    Compare Anita to Silva, Mata or even David Batty – all small but all possessing something that Anita doesnt have.

    Lukaku on loan, even for something like 5m, would be a masterstroke (so it prob wont happen). Exactly the type of forward we need in the side.

    If we signed Gourcuff and held onto Cabaye, we could convince Alderweireld to sign for us in time for the Fulham game

    Team vs Fulham

    If only it was that easy (it probably is only we’re making a holy show of it!!!!)

    Whats changed with Cisse? You cant become suddenly rubbish without something causing it. He was absolutely on fire when he first came here. Is it because we have AM’ that think they can just bypass him, or are they just not good enough to supply him?

    To be fair Pokat he didn’t have much of a chance to show his stuff in the Man City game.

    If he had proper delivery he definitely has the ability to score.

    Perhaps he just had one good season? Or maybe Pardew is just incapable of getting the best out of him. When he had Ba constantly vying with him for CF role he seemed to do a lot better, perhaps that was his motivation having a rivalry with his Senegalese compatriot.

    After his poor season last time I think this whole wonga debacle was his attempt at trying to get attention from other clubs to let him know that he isn’t happy at Newcastle.

    Then again this is all speculative.

    Pokat – Pardew is 100% to blame for Cisse’s form! Putting a guy who took the prem by storm on the right wing, to accommodate a guy who couldnt hit a barn door 2nd part of the season, in the centre… nuffin like faith from ur manager

    @cabyebye
    Think cisse would benefit from having a big striker up with him, keep the cb’s busy to give him a bit more space providing he can manage to stay onside! Just need to provide him with service as he definetly knows where the goal is.

    On the Anita discussion has anyone considered him playing at rb, he can supposedly play there & at the moment debuchy just seems off the pace & a bit out of his depth. Always waiting for a rash challenge & a penalty or red card to come from his efforts!

    I know it was a toss-up between Colo and MYM for the other CB. Colo is fantastic but I fancy with the MYM playing we could push right up the pitch because MYM and Alderweireld are both fast lads!

    I agree. Last summer I had the temerity to suggest on here that Anita would struggle in the Prem – and was promptly shot down, of course for daring to contradict Carr’s judgement. Having seen Anita in various Euro games, the clincher was in the live televised Norwich v Ajax friendly (possibly his last game for Ajax?) when he looked tidy but ineffective against what was then a Championship (plus) level squad that Hughton was then working with. There was no doubt he was the weak link in a very useful Ajax side.

    Anita’s game play doesn’t seem to have changed one iota from that night, and Pardew doesn’t have the coaching nous to put together a team system he would be more comfortable in, so one can but wonder what his future is in the EPL – maybe at Swansea?

    Why don’t we move in for Gomis when the situation’s perfect?

    Because between Ashley and Kinnear, they don’t want to.

    Their bluffing’s been called and doubtless we’ll see the supposed strengthening mission exposed for what it is – a charade!
