Cabaye Missing Again – Santon, Anita, Marveaux And Shola Start

2:02 pm, Saturday, August 24th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 592 Comments

nufc emblemwest-ham-united-crest

Bad news again today that Yohan Cabaye is not included in the squad for today’s vital home game against West Ham – are we still paying this player?

But Alan Pardew makes four changes to the side that was torn apart at the Etihad Stadium on Monday night, and Davide Santon, Vurnon Anita, Sylvain Marveaux and Shola Ameobi all start this game.

Newcastle will play in an attacking 4-4-2 formation with Shola Ameobi and Papiss Cisse up front, and Ben Arfa and Sylvain Marveaux on the flanks, and Vurnon Anita has come in for the injured Cheick Tiote who has a groin strain, and he will partner Sissoko in central midfield.

For West Ham Kevin Nolan – the former Newcastle United captain – is the Hammer’s skipper and probably also their danger man, and former Newcastle striker target Modibo Maiga starts for West Ham up front.

Gael Bigirimana makes the bench today, as does Haris Vuckic.

We are not happy that Yohan Cabaye has again let the side down before a ball has been kicked – and we’ll leave it at the for the moment.

Newcastle need to win this game today – and out fans at the game need to support the players big time, and hopefully to victory.

Tiote has to be one of most injury prone players. Through suspensions and injuries does he ever player more than 5 games in a row?

Marveaux and Ben arfa don’t work as wingers in a 4-4-2. Don’t track back. Guarantee we see cisse on the wing with Ben arfa on the other. Poor team, poor bench

  • 13 colwell // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:06 PM

    Great midfield today.

  • 14 toon1707 // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:07 PM

Little bit gutted I like Gouffran works his socks of for the team think that confirms we won’t see cabaye ever again in a toon top not a problem only want players committed to the toon anyone who isn’t move them on

  • 15 Yohan Kebab // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:07 PM

lets hope we dont get overrun in midfield, noble nolan diame vs sissoko anita, lads gonna have to be on form

  • 16 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:07 PM

I’m actually pleased with that starting line up.

I’d like to see Anita and Sissoko holding and allowing Marveaux freedom in the hole behind the strikers as he isn’t a proper winger in the strict sense.

No Jonas, Saylor or Tiote which is good, granted, it is down to injuries and suspensions, but now we need their replacements to prove they deserve to be ahead of them.

Filled with dread, but given a little spark of hope, glad to be back to basics with a 4-4-2 though, let’s get right on it lads. HWTL!

  • 17 tynesidetommo // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:08 PM

Must be more bids pending for Cabaye but that is a poor bench

  • 18 colwell // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:08 PM

    Yohan Kebab

Lol Nolan will never overrun anybody ever

  • 19 jokinoot // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:08 PM

Shola instead off goofy takin da pea now

  • 20 GeordieAnt // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:08 PM

Jesus Christ….some people are never happy. “We need to play more attacking football,” “Marv needs to start,” “Pardew will play defensive,” “We need another striker up front with Cisse.” Well…that’s an attacking lineup, Marv is starting, doesn’t look like a defensive starting 11 to me, and there is a striker up front with Cisse…Shola was decent in pre season. Now quit trying to find everything you can possibly complain about and get ready to support the lads.

  • 21 Jamiemac // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:09 PM

This is going to be interesting. Heard people go on and on and on about how amazing Anita is. Let’s find out..

Would have preferred Santon at RB and Dummett at LB

  • 22 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:09 PM

Although, our bench is shocking. No depth at all, but sure we all knew that didn’t we?

  • 23 JackButler // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:09 PM

We need Shola today, his hold up play will bring the midfield into play more and he’ll offer more support to Cisse

  • 24 toonfin // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:09 PM

Is Gouffran injured? Well a lot of fans have got their wish with anita and marveux starting, Tiote and Gutierez out the team (albeit through injury) Lets hope we are as good at picking teams as we think we are. If you swapped shola for a better striker i’d be happy with that team

  • 25 Rooster // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:09 PM

Gouffy left out??? Dummet should be starting, fekn Pardew.

  • 26 JackButler // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:11 PM

    Jarvis v Debuchy = Interesting

  • 27 Rowan Milsted // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:12 PM

For the love of… imo that is a poor set up. I’d much prefer to see Gouffran/Marvs flanking Cisse. HBA as a winger… no protection there for Santon. And no Cabaye… he’s off alright then. I was hoping for a sort of 4-2-1-2-1:

    Krul
    Debs-Colo-Mbiwa-Santon
    Sissoko-Anita
    Marv
    Gouff-HBA
    Cisse

Ah well, I am but an armchair pundit. Prove me wrong Pardew! HWTL

  • 28 Rooster // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:12 PM

    Decent first 11 that.

  • 30 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:12 PM

Probably the best team we have with out Cabaye. So glad to see Anita out there, time for him to show why he should be starting every game.

  • 39 boater // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:17 PM

Credit to Pardew – he needed to shake up the baffling Christmas tree – that produced no gifts – and go 4-4-2 with Shola’s presence in the box; Cisse benefiting from some space behind at last.

Marveaux and Anita fans get their fix and at least everyone will know what they’re meant to be doing today. No excuses. Even if Shola’s a stop-gap, Cisse needs a strike partner.

I actually have some confidence in a decent result now.

  • 43 santonthenewmaldini // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:18 PM

    Well well well !

Looks a decent side on paper apart from Shola should have played Dummett and put Santon on the wing or had Gouffran bombing about

Also Diame will bully anyone in our midfield including Tiote EXCEPT Sissoko ! Let the big man bully other teams

We will also keep the ball on the deck a lot more today with Marveux hopefully providing the ammo

Pardew should keep this team for a couple of games in a row now see how it goes stop chopping and changing players and only let Jonas and Tiote back into the team if we have an injury or suspension crisis

  • 44 DevonToon // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:18 PM

Hrm… so he almost picked a good starting line up…

  • 45 NUFC STEVE // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:19 PM

Can we take AMEOBI OFF before the game starts?? Absolut AMATEUR TACTICS from pardew. Anyone knows you can keep 60+ % possession against Sam Allyrdyce but u need to play 5 in midfield!!!

  • 46 JackButler // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:19 PM

In the absence of a new striker, Shola is the best option we have and will make a difference today

  • 47 NUFC FOR SALE // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:19 PM

    Decent line up.
At the end of the day playing Pardew style football we need someone like Shola alongside Cisse….. If we had a decent manager who knew how to play good football then yes Shola should be nowhere near this team. .. but we don’t so at least Pardew had picked a team that plays to his style of football strengths. …. even if it is rubbish.
I would take defeat today to get rid of Pardew as I don’t think we’re going anywhere with him in charge.

  • 48 Papiss9 // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:20 PM

Let’s hope the players are focused and are going out to play some good football. To many silly yellow cards last time + saylors red.

3 points today and we’re surely gonne get 3 from fulham, they look crap.

  • 49 niafron // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:20 PM

    Bonjour messieurs!

    What an interesting team…

Delighted to see Marv AND Anita. I do not dared to say it, but i found the way we tried to play on the ground last time was a good sign.

    This team is another one.

  • 50 JAMSHA // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:20 PM

10 mb left time to leav the blog

  • 51 Transfer Sage // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:20 PM

Pardew can’t help the weak bench. It’s Ashley’s fault that’s what he is given.

Personally I prefer Marv more central as be seems to work better there and doesn’t have to track back as much but it’s good to have him on the pitch.

At least with shola and cisse it should give them both a bit more freedom as its an extra man in the box to pick up.

  • 52 JAMSHA // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:20 PM

  • 55 Transfer Sage // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:22 PM

    Niafron

I agree. We did seem to pass it around a bit better, just struggled on both final thirds, but then again city were brilliant.

As a side note, bent scored has scored. Not a washed up player everyone said he was…not world class either mind. Been a good player for us to have around the squad.

  • 56 tannerabag // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:23 PM

With that line-up Newcastle will get torn apart in midfield. today.

  • 57 Papiss9 // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:23 PM

    tap in from bent

  • 58 JackButler // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:23 PM

The only thing that I disagree with Pardew on is that Dummett came on against City and was excellent while facing a serious threat with massive pace and now he’s been dropped for a returning senior player.

What message does that send out to the youngsters???

  • 59 Transfer Sage // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:24 PM

    Mojo

I’m ok about diame, he’s good but not that consistent. Also Anita is quick and if he times his tackles well as positions himself well Diame’s size shouldn’t be a huge issue. Makalele was tiny but a class act as DM, not saying Anita is as good, just that being small doesn’t stop him being good.

  • 60 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:24 PM

Seriously lads, Shola may not provide much threat in terms of goal scoring, but we need a striker who can hold the ball up and be able to get our midfield involved in the play, so in my opinion, selecting Shola is a decent shout.

We need to sign a striker who is better than Shola but can hold the ball up like him. Playing Gouffran up front with Cisse would be a disaster in my opinion.

  • 61 gus3232 // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:26 PM

ameobi,i hate that man playing football, never mind for newcastle…..and bent scored for fulham

  • 62 wingspan // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:26 PM

i agree tanera. 2 against 3 in midfield is asking too much of Anita when all hes proved so far for me is that hes too weak for the prem.

Noble Diame and Noble are gonna gobble him up.

  • 63 niafron // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:26 PM

Well, in a way, it look like the last chance, for if it didn’t work either to play in this different fashion, we are short of options…

  • 64 wingspan // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:27 PM

    Nolan*

  • 65 boater // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:27 PM

NUFC For Sale – some truth in that. The technical, fluid formation sounds nice but isn’t working, but then you need natural finishers in advanced midfield positions to have a lone-front man. We have Cisse and 6 goal-shy midfielders fannying around behind him.

  • 66 Rooster // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:28 PM

Matty, its a nit that has been picking for two years with Pardew, every team sheet gets my back up, I am happy to see our team without tiote and Jonas though, just frustrates the hell out of me the bloke.

Would have been a perfect day to give the young Geordie lad a debut today at SJP in front of his family he has deserved it.

  • 67 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:28 PM

As for selecting Santon over Dummett; while I think Santon needs to sharpen up his defending, maybe having a LB keeping him on his toes is exactly what he needs.

    Also, where has Massadio gone?

  • 68 santonthenewmaldini // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:29 PM

I think it will be a 433 with Cisse wide right and Shola in Midfield…….

  • 69 Yohan Kebab // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:29 PM

dummett should have started, debuchy making way, santon on the right

  • 70 ToonDarnSarf // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:29 PM

Crap bench. But we are missing Cabaye, Tiote, Jonas, Remy, Saylor, Raylor, Haidara and Willo.

As an aside…any central London based fans have any idea if a pub might be showing the game? Dodgy pub perhaps… :-)

Was supposed to go to the cricket but it’s being rained off!

  • 71 Bearsize // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:29 PM

Please play well boys! This is a once in a lifetime chance for the lads who dont kiss pardews ass to shine. Would have preferred a 433 but its a start. Wow all of pardews bum boys not playing! Cmon! Dont pass to shola! As he is poo!

  • 72 ~Joke-innear~ // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:30 PM

Oh… it was looking so good as well…

    Santon – Yes
    Anita – Yes
    Marv – Yes

Then the silver haired tw@t ruins it all by including shola.

  • 73 DS_NUFC // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:30 PM

i wish pardew would come out and say why cabaye is not playing. if cabs refuses to play then he should be fined as we are paying his wages and if pardew decides he is not to play then it is poor management by him.

  • 74 sparky55 // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:31 PM

West ham will play 4-5-1 with two natural wingers as part of the middle five so we will be over-ran in midfield yet again and their wide men will get in behind and cause us all sorts of problems.

the front 2 is the weakness,…cisse won’t track back and shola poor at that also so we’re a man down in midfield before we start.

the target man is shola so where will cisse play…in hole or out wide???? haven’t we seen that doesn’t work already.

SH!TE SH!TE SH!TE same old pathertic tactics and lack of thought.

    Allardye will out manoeuvre him

  • 75 ilovetoon8788 // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:31 PM

  • 78 Yohan Kebab // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:32 PM

  • 79 niafron // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:32 PM

    Think 4-4-2…

    Shola and Cissé upfront.

Would have prefered Gouffy on the left (Marv center pitch) and CIssé or Shola Alone forward.

  • 80 ~Joke-innear~ // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:32 PM

The Silver haired tw@t and that fat turd in charge of transfers are making it really hard to support Newcastle.

Cabaye is a goner. Bye Bye.

  • 82 Transfer Sage // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:32 PM

    Ruddy

I’d like santon as the right winger and hba on the left…santon did well the one game he moved advanced, got a goal against Wigan.

That’s more left field though so i can’t complain we don’t do that.

  • 83 santonthenewmaldini // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:34 PM

Don’t know why people are going on about the bench

Apart fro Gosling and Sammy the rest of them can change a game Vuckic would be a perfect no 10 in a 5 man midfield and Gouffran is a good game changer to bring on might suit him better to come on later in games and would much rather Bigi gets a go than Tiote or Jonas because they are shite

Time to give youth a chance as the seniors have let us down for so long

  • 84 Transfer Sage // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:34 PM

    Mojo

Yeh Anita just needs to move the ball on a bit quicker and not get caught like that as he doesn’t have the strength or body positioning of HBA to shrug them off.

Hopefully is just us being rusty in our first game and he gets that zip about a bit better today.

  • 85 ~Joke-innear~ // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:35 PM

    @Sparky55

The mere idea of Allardyce out maneuvering someone should be up there with bigfoot being real and nessie being a dinosaur

That being said, it is not hard for anyone to out maneover someone with barely an iota of management skills i.e. Pardew. I bet even a rock can out maneuver the man.

  • 94 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:37 PM

    Sage

In that Wigan game, Santon was used more as a right wing back, rather than a right winger, but it would be a left field move, something that Pardew is not known for.

We need more players, with the type of players we have, we simply have not got enough players of sufficient quality who can link the midfield and attack, that’s the long and short of it.

  • 95 ~Joke-innear~ // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:37 PM

I know I said earlier that I was thankful that we would be starting with 11 men, now that Tiote and Jonas are out of the picture for this game…

I admit it was a tad bit premature… seems like only 10 men and a bumbling idi0t are starting today.

  • 97 boater // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:39 PM

Sparky – You couldn’t be more wrong. The lack of a partner for Cisse has been the root cause of a) his inability to get into the game for months and b) the team’s inability to hold a higher line, and exert more sustained pressure in the final third.

  • 98 L.ARAVIND // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:39 PM

I THOUGHT CABAYE HAD SOME MORALES BUT HE IS A COMPLETE JERK WHO REFUSES TO PLAY FOR HIS PRESENT TEAM…….LET HIM REGRET HIS WHOLE LIFE FOR LEAVING NEWCASTLE..

  • 99 jimiley // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:39 PM

A defeat may be a good result for us in the long run. Mashley only buys when we are in trouble. A dodgy win only obscures our problems.

  • 100 ~Joke-innear~ // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:39 PM

Newcastle should charge a fee for everyone who wants to watch the circus act…

Utter disgrace how far we have fallen in terms of staff. JFK makes llambias and Dennis Wise look like a model professionals.

  • 101 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:40 PM

Anita may not be the biggest, most physical guy, but give him the ball and he will spread it around the field, time for our technically able players to get on the field and be allowed to show what they can do. Flair over strength any day of the week for me.

  • 102 MrMojoRisin76 // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:40 PM

  • 103 ~Joke-innear~ // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:40 PM

Cisse’s terrible first touch and inability to stay onside has nothing to do with it.

  • 104 santonthenewmaldini // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:40 PM

    @Transfer Sage

So would I!! But it looks like we probably wont spend the money to have game changing seniors

And the seniors who are missing would do nothing to change a game in a positive manner imagine an opposition team seeing Taylor, Jonas or Tiote coming off the bench?!?They would be like YEEEESSSS!!Because they are all shite and would only be good if we were parking the bus and holding onto a 1 goal lead which under Pardew would be most likely

Also how good would it be if we suddenly decided to press and attack like the Man Utd away game against West Ham ? Because West Ham are a poor poor side if you press them they cant hold onto the ball properly

  • 105 VanToonMan // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:40 PM

OK Joe….tell us this….why is Cabaye not playing?!….A bid has not been accepted and he is still being paid by NUFC….so he should be starting today! Absolutely ludicrous.

Don’t understand the absence of Cabaye? Only one arsenal bid rejected.

    He plays. Simple as.

    Football has lost it’s soul.

Good to have a chance to see what Anita and marv can do – they need to play a quick passing game. The HBA, marv, Anita triangles look tasty when they played briefly last season.

On shola. He needs to play as Cisse need a striker to play off until remy is fit

boater@96…couldn’t disagree more m8…cisse thrives off good crosses and being put in behind the defensive line like cabs used to do a couple of years ago…he’s definately not IMO someone who feeds off a lanky streak of p!ss.

Cisse has scored some wonderful long range goals but he’s a 10 yard finisher and that doesn’t often happen off a flick on following a long distance clearance up to Shola

Cisse needs service from wide and from a No 10 playing short passes in between centre halfs

  • 119 Thump // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:47 PM

Just seen Pardew on Sky Sports. He looks thoroughly cheesed off.

Is this the latest thing that players (Rooney, Suarez, Bale & now Cabaye) who have had a bit made for them just decide not to play until such times as either a bit is accepted or the window closes?

  • 138 boater // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:56 PM

Sparky – Nope. Cisse has scored his goals when Ba was alongside, or late in games when Shola was brought on – in other words when there is a goal threat around him to find space. You can’t rely on the odd 35 yd wonder goals to win games every week.
Let’s see today, proof’s in the pudding.

  • 139 Toonbyblood // Aug 24, 2013 at 2:56 PM

    Frustrating that Cabaye isn’t playing.

But good to see Marv and Anita playing.

If the team can stay composed and be patient I think we’ll get our confidence back and start to put some good team moves together.

If we let them bully us then they’ll control the game.

So I’m not expecting anything amazing in the first half. Just solid team play. Controlling the game. And Hatem and Cisse to score in the second half.

    HOWAY!

It seems like whether or not we actually get in any new signings it will take a few weeks for this team to get playing again without Cabaye. You can blame Pardew all you like for his tactics, but this is a team that simply isn’t gelling at the moment. That’s not just down to the manager.

  • 239 toonbrother // Aug 24, 2013 at 3:48 PM

@kebab were playing at home we should be more dominant. Ameobi and cisse arent clicking at all. Anita has impressed in the middle of the park, Central defence is still our weakest area. Every aerial ball poses a threat with Colocinni playing at centre back

  • 240 Belfast // Aug 24, 2013 at 3:48 PM

All huff and puff. West Ham doing a good job on us to be fair. He needs to move Ben Arfa infield, but I doubt he will.

  • 241 alienhunter // Aug 24, 2013 at 3:48 PM

Agreed Jammy-D.. we are trying to pass the ball a lot more. Final third is a problem and one we are trying to fix in the transfer market right now. Anita has looked good, Sissoko and Ben Arfa also trying to create.

Its not great, but its not bad. Typical early season game.

Lot of negative drama queens on here. I wonder how old some of them are and how much football they actually watch ..

  • 242 2_goal_tino // Aug 24, 2013 at 3:48 PM

Marv’s set pieces are infinitely times better than Yohan’s corners or HBA’s free kicks. They look like our most likely way of scoring at the moment.

worst 45 minutes ive ever seen from a lackluster toon team in 50 years, no balls, no width, no style nowt toothless display but what do we expect from pardew

  • 252 toonbrother // Aug 24, 2013 at 3:51 PM

@keith in france if you watch the game as closely as you follow comment you wouldve noticed anita made a number of sloppy misplaced passes at the beginning of the first half but settled down later.

  • 253 BuckLuck // Aug 24, 2013 at 3:51 PM

I said I would wait for the judgement and let the City match pass, but there is absolutely nothing that makes me believe Pardew can turn this around.
Not even the hoofing is conducted like it should.

This has nothing to do with West Ham being well organized, but Pardews lack of football knowledge.

Pardews best formation by the way; L-U-C-K

  • 254 geordiemark // Aug 24, 2013 at 3:51 PM

ameobi a libility damn disgrace replace him with anyone put sossisko up front in his place

  • 255 Twatter // Aug 24, 2013 at 3:52 PM

    First half points:

Ameobi as ineffective as ever, Sissoko pretty unconvincing, Anita and Marveaux getting stuck in to the match as it wore on – been impressed by the latter’s delivery especially after some pretty awful set pieces from Kebab recently. Debuchy still looks pretty shaky and Ben Arfa desperately needs to find some more creativity in his play if we’re to get anything out of this match whatsoever.

I’d swap Gouffran for Ameobi at half-time and get Marveaux and Ben Arfa alternating more. We need that movement if we’re going to challenge West Ham, they’re far far too comfortable at the moment. If we continue as we have been I can see them nicking a late goal. This game needs to improve because as it stands it’s got 1-0 away written win all over it.

Fat Sam will no doubt be licking his lips in anticipation.

  • 256 TurkishFan101 // Aug 24, 2013 at 3:52 PM

    @Jammy-D

Only reason we are playing better is because we are playing against a very poor West Ham side if they could of finished the chances they had, it would of been 3-0 to them already.

  • 257 lukes26 // Aug 24, 2013 at 3:52 PM

Newcastle have more possession, West Ham have been more dangerous.

Santon and debuchy havent made too many mistakes.

I think the longer the game goes on, the more likely we’ll see Santon pushed upfield. He’s more defensive than ive ever seen

  • 258 Oleg G // Aug 24, 2013 at 3:52 PM

Looks like we just have many individuals on the pitch, but no real team.

The connection between midfield and attack doesn’t exist.

Too bad as we do have some great players and with or without Cabaye, it won’t make a big difference. Last year with Cabaye in most of the games we still looked bad.

The players should play more as a team. More running together, passing to one another and open themselves for passing options. Pushing the other team back and pressuring them up top.

We are lacking ambition and motivation for some reason. I guess 40K-70K per week is not motivating enough.

  • 259 toonbrother // Aug 24, 2013 at 3:53 PM

imho very short sighted to say anita > tiote based on today. This is west ham at home not man city at the etihad. I seem to remember him being completely overrun in midfield when he played against Man city last season. He’s playing well but lets stop overhyping his display so far

  • 260 ilovetoon8788 // Aug 24, 2013 at 3:53 PM

What has changed from last season? We still don’t look capable of scoring. Attacking play is almost non existant. New signings won’t change anything.

we need a 4-4-1-1 formation with marveaux just in behind cisse and connecting midfield and attack irrespective of whether the ball comes in from HBA or Anita…we need that link and marveaux is the best man to do that job…he’s good a spotting a defence splitting pass

  • 287 Harley // Aug 24, 2013 at 4:02 PM

    My half time report.

We look the better team just but without really troubling their goal. They’ve had the better chances from a couple of good crosses and free kicks but I don’t think krul has made a save.

The defence looks ok but debuchy is being torn apart by Jarvis. Sissokho and Anita look like the perfect match for each other in the middle and its the best sissokho played in a long time.

Shola and cisse don’t look too threatening but HBA and marveaux looking bright. Especially HBA who is everywhere but keeps letting himself down with the final ball.

    Good first half.

  • 288 Papiss9 // Aug 24, 2013 at 4:02 PM

Well Anita has been playing good always looking to keep possession we Ameobi is letting the side down though he always loses the ball when we get a 1 touch move on the go

West Ham are great at stifling teams but we just need a move to split them open

Marveux’s deliveries have been excellent although he has not been involved as much out wide should move him more central at half time and take Ameobi off

West ham are only good at set pieces i think it will be tight and one goal will win it but if we get the goal i think confidence could grow and we could play well

Only reason the fans say that because that cant take it anymore and take any medicore performance as an improvement. Because its hard enough to admit we are doing well but even a slight boost of performance the fans think we are playing better… I wish I had the same sense but the real problem is and is still ongoing. We are not playing any better then the game against Man City. The only fortunate thing is West Ham are a LONG BALL/HOOF BALL team, so we are lucky they are not a passing team.

  • 307 ~Joke-innear~ // Aug 24, 2013 at 4:12 PM

Fans cant blame Cisse.. He is the only true striker up on his own being isolated and being made to do all the work. There is a big gap and Pardew has made it much harder for Cisse again as usual and this is showing.

  • 323 Nufc-83 // Aug 24, 2013 at 4:18 PM

Cisse is appalling he offers nothing cant pass, not particularly quick, first touch is woeful we cant afford to have a poacher at the club we need players that can actually play the game.

What i would do for a bellamy type of player now.

  • 324 Wiz // Aug 24, 2013 at 4:20 PM

Stroller’s presence in our team after 12 years says everything about the club. How can he be in the team for the 2nd game? Bare bones or what! Man City came 2nd and then spent 90 million. We came 5th bottom and have spent nowt. All the other teams have strengthened. Now I understand why Stroller is still here.

That was close to a horrible result, in last minutes of the game. Just don’t lose. Winning in the last moment will be great, but a draw will due now. But losing, losing will destroy some players.

Although winning won’t mean anything but some luck. It can fool people into thinking we are playing good.

However we had almost no shots on target, Shola should not close to the first team. We need 2-3 players fast and for one to be a striker is critical.

Surely Pardew making a point to Ashley by taking Cisse off? Essentially saying: “Look, if our only striker is not playing well who have we got as an out an out striker?” Balls in JK’s and Ashley’s court, if they bring in a striker this window we MIGHT be okay, if they don’t we’re in serious trouble.

  • 523 BuckLuck // Aug 24, 2013 at 4:55 PM

  • 529 Jamiemac // Aug 24, 2013 at 4:56 PM

Not Pardew’s fault that the many shots we had weren’t on target. No hoofball at all. Everything was done on the ground which was good. Cisse and Ameobi didn’t make any runs behind, hopefully Remy will change that. Anita actually played really well today. Love Benny but he was pretty poor today. Cisse and Ameobi had stinkers. Back 4 had a good game, Debuchy got skinned a couple times but made some good challenges. So yeah all in all not bad but should be winning these games.

  • 530 JP...from The Rock // Aug 24, 2013 at 4:56 PM

We played some good stuff for about 20 mins of the match and that was it. 16 Shots 0 on target tells it’s own story. We need a pacy striker asap. Cisse was shocking and what the hell are we doing playing Strolla Ameobi for a whole 90 minutes when we all know he can only play half decent for 15 max, ridiculous.

We need options and players that move around quickly off and on the ball to create space, and he has to have good ball control or else we’ll just keep on giving it away as we always do.

I have to say not bad at the middle, but we really lack the quality of the final third, good crosses and passes.

And also lack the movement inside the box.Guffy was doing well of that, but where was Ameobi? He’s always walking or just standing.Absolutly Useless!!
For Sammy, well I don’t like him too,but I must say he did well today.Keep that performance and I will love you.

Well the result was not good, but actually I got a little bit of hope of a good performance.Better than last season which we played long balls.
Today much better movement and passes in creating the chances.
All we need is the quality in the final third and a solid defence like today, although we had some dangerous moments.
I still believe we can finish in the top 10.

And my hope for the next game against Fulham

    Krul
    Debuch Mbiwa Coloccini Santon
    Anita Sissoko
    Marv
    BenArfa Cisse(Remy) Guffy

I cannot see Cisse staying, I hope I am wrong as I think alongside another striker he will bag a load. Just looks fed up and I can’t blame him. Shola once again is a waste of a shirt he just loves throwing his weight around and fouling people.
Thought the midfield took hold in second half and I think we can let Cabs go.

hold on hold on, we were playing football right? because it seemed to me we were playing rugby!

    Buckluck

Agreed. its history that is all. a top 5 finish under this regime is impossible.

  • 571 Zebras4Life // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:03 PM

Sis solo needs to work on his touch. Anita’s has always been class. Anita and Cabs would be ideal in CM

    Pardew’s post match analysis:

“Well I think we played will in the second half if I’m honest”

“I feel we had a case for a penalty if I’m honest”

“Ame-ohbs had a great game if I’m honest”

  • 573 Rotonda heights // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:04 PM

The encouraging thing were the performances of Anita, Marveaux and M’Biwa, but you know in Pardewland they will all get dropped or M’Biwa played out of position again without a second thought for Tiote, Jonas and Saylor to waltz back in.

  • 574 hugotoon // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:04 PM

Alan Pardew – ‘Judge us after Saturday’ = Well nows its a little bit awkward isnt it! 16 shots and not a single one on target is utterly criminal, especially when playing at home.

Plus letting Shola Ameobi lead the line for an entire match is simply unbelievable, he belongs in League 2.

The fact is unless we get bought by a new wealthy owner
Newcastle United will continue to decay into further mediocrity.

  • 575 geordiemark // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:04 PM

well put it this way lads if ashley doesnt sign the players we need and before transfer deadline day then we are relegated with that team

  • 576 L.ARAVIND // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:04 PM

JOE KINNEAR IS A NIGHTMARE AND HE HAS TURNED TOONSIDE INTO A MOCKERY……..MOTH*****R CU** ASHLEY SPEND THE FU**K MONEY OUT OF YOUR PRETTY BIG ASS…..IF NO ONE COMES THEN I AM PRETTY SURE THAT FANS MUST MOVE ON RATHER THAN COMPLAING HIS WORST MANAGEMENT

  • 577 Toon1978 // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:05 PM

And Pardew has the cheek to say we still might not bring anyone in the other day. No words can describe the anger right now.

  • 578 lukes26 // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:05 PM

    buckluck,

a bit delusional. i could break down the socio-economic reasons why this isn’t possible. but i feel this would be wasted time on my part.

we’re being forced to sell our best player SHOULD be enough of a hint.

  • 579 Spuggy // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:05 PM

Cisse isn’t shite, he need support, terrible deliveries into the box. He’s not a hold up player.

That said can we afford a player like that in the team?

Some good play in the 2nd half. A a quality strong CF to hold up play with Remy behind and Cabaye back in OR a replacement.

Thought Sammy was ok, Sissoko was decent in the middle, anita great just sitting off.

  • 580 nufcursed // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:05 PM

come on lads everyone’s a bit delusional here!
yes we played better than monday and yes there were some ‘encouraging’ signs of how we could play.

    BUT
    today showed pardew’s managerial inability
shola is not good enough for a PL team, neither is debuchy
anita and gouffran should be starters, who will be on the bench next game as pardew cannot spot a decent footballer!
even with an owner that goes by the name mike ashley we still should be playing better football, no excuses!
i bet our reserves and youth teams would beat pardew’s best eleven!
and we need a playmaker and a striker that’s technically good (as gouffran is our only striker with some technical skills).
otherwise we’ll be fighting relegation again

  • 581 Rotonda heights // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:05 PM

    Norcal

worrying how he needs so much to be honest !!!

  • 582 nufc1984 // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:05 PM

And the records just keep getting broken!!
Apparently no other side in PL has ever had 14 shots on goal and none on target. Well done pards, another unwanted record. Its like they make them for us to break them!!

  • 583 gorgonzola ( former Pecorino former to gorgonzola) // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:05 PM

to me Cissoko and ANita where great…

would play a 3 man midfield though….. going forward…. Anita was great again…really neat little player…

I cant believe we just witnessed all that…Pardew has no idea to organise this side its truly woeful…

  • 584 geordiemark // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:06 PM

    hugotoon

honest league 2 hmm more like scottish 3rd tier more like it

  • 585 JP...from The Rock // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:07 PM

89Norcal – # 548 – Then that makes Strolla Ameobi better or what are you trying to say? Ameobi is shite, awful, possibly one of the worst footballers I have ever seen. Cisse on the other hand has proven his ‘class’ before and we know he’s good. Today though they both were shite! We urgently need creativity and flair because we barely got close enough and most shots came from distance. We need a pacy, technically gifted striker that can create and score and soon because if I see more of Strolla Ameobi I am going to suffer some kind of breakdown… my God he’s awful.

  • 586 jimiley // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:07 PM

We all know already, regardless of a couple of signings this week, that we are set for another crap season. We may stay up or we may get relegated. Either way, Big Mike has been and will remain the worst owner this club has ever had. Percy picks a crap team and his football is crap but he has been handed a dead mans hand by Big Mike. No recruitment and no support from above. I almost feel sorry for Percy because the real cancer is the owner.

  • 587 jokinoot // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:07 PM

At least shola thought it was funny

  • 588 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:08 PM

Must say I had the pleasure of not having been subjected to the abysmal performance that by all accounts, was rolled out today.

How did Anita and Marveaux play? Well enough to keep Tiote and Jonas out of the team?

  • 589 toon kk // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:08 PM

Pleased to see we put much more effort in the second half. The sooner Remy is fit and another striker are in the better, otherwise I don’t know where our goals are coming from.

  • 590 Jamiemac // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:08 PM

Statisticians Opta: 14 – Newcastle had 14 shots off target without any on target today, something no other Premier League team has done in the past eight seasons. Wayward.

  • 591 believeintoon // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:10 PM

I don’t think sacking Pardew is a good idea at this moment.
We have to wait and see until about the first 10 games.

Besides I don’t think we can get a better manager than Pardew because we have Mike Ashley.
Well Pardew doesn’t have enough ideas to create great football but still has the trust from the players.
I think if we sack Pardew,Ben Arfa might say he wants to leave and cause a situation like Cabaye is doing right now.

I really hate the guys just saying SACK PARDEW,SACK PARDEW.
If so, show us the ideas after sacking Pardew.
If you don’t have it, stop shouting such an insignificant things. We can’t have a better manager under MA!!

  • 592 LeToonARMY // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:15 PM

I gotta give it to Pards, his tried his best. look at the team his got, we are not exactly at our strongest are we? REMY is out CABAYE has gone AWOL plus we need to buy a winger, a defender and a couple of Strikers. #GOMIS# would have been in for SHOLA and REMY would’ve been on. 0-0 is not that bad for the lads, all we need to do now is get in more player next week. M.A needs to stop been so bloody stingy IMO
