We didn’t know too much about Marseilles’ 23 year-old winger/striker Andre Ayew, when we saw the report in France on Thursday morning, that Newcastle were interested in the son of the three-time African Footballer of the Year Abedi Pele, but the more we’ve looked into this player’s record, he would seem to be an excellent acquisition for Newcastle.
Andre Ayew – looks like an excellent striker/winger
The 43 times capped Ghanaian International can play up front as a striker or on the wing, and the 23 year-old joined Marseilles from Nania in 2005, when he was just 15 years old.
Last season Andre scored 13 goals and had 5 assists in 45 appearances for Marseilles, and he had loan spells at Lorient in 2008–2009 and at Arles-Avignon the following season.
Ayew scores most of his goals from inside the penalty box, and about half of his goals come from headers, and while not particularly tall at 5’9″, he is a good header of the ball, and that’s something we don’t currently have at Newcastle.
Andre is said to be rated at around £10M, and Liverpool are also credited with an interest in Ayew, who was born in Seclin, a community just outside of Lille to Ghanaian parents, and he could well be one of Newcastle major targets next week.
Ayew could be used at Newcastle in a 4-3-3 formation as one of the wide men up front, and he always looks to get into the penalty box, which is where he scores most of his goals, so he would certainly fit in with the styles of Papiss Cisse, Yoan Gouffran and Loic Remy.
Newcastle are really short of scoring power since Demba Ba left in January, so if we can get Bafe Gomis on Tyneside next week, and this 23 year-old, they would both appear to be decent buys for the club, although the £10M fee may be a bit too high for Newcastle, given the frugal way in which Mike Ashley is currently running the club.
Sorry to bring that up.
The latest report on Newcastle’s interest in the 23 year-old is in the Express, and since Alan Pardew said he was hoping Newcastle can bring in a couple of players next week – maybe Andre will be one of them.
Andre is the right age at just 23, and he still has time to develop as a footballer, and he could do that on Tyneside, although we don’t know what the real level of interest is from Liverpool, who could outbid Newcastle for the player.
What do you think?

Good point kidda, I think the last group of younguns to come through, and sustain a high level, was the Watson’s, Elliot and the Clarke’s of this world, a few after showed plenty of promise, but amounted to very little.

Comment #44I think whats different this transfer window is that our supposed targets Bony,PEA were identified by others as well. Obv with the 60m clubs have scouted more.Gomis is the only one whom no one has come in for. And with clubs prepared to spend TV money it was never going to be our window. We normally haggle for 2m for a year, wasnt going to work this time atleast.

Mr Kinnear wouldn’t be able to attend due to being too busy getting all those players over the line.

Comment #46Where’s our replacements for forster, perch, simpson, never mind the additions of another striker and winger.
You need dependable consistant players like perch to see you through a season. A few more young hungry british players wouldn’t go a miss either.
Low MA ambition, incompetent DOF. Indeed.

Comment #48So no cabaye by the looks of it
Some reports saying he’s refusing to play because his minds not right, if that’s the case fine the git, he’s paid tens of thousands a week to play football for us, no bid has been accepted he’s our player, get your ars3 on the pitch ffs
Or is it simply far Ashley protecting his golden goose?

Comment #55I think one of the fundamental problems is pards hasn’t truly defined what type of team we want to be and worked towards that goal.
A good technical side, retaining the ball and playing through the opposition (play Anita and marveaux)
A strong battling side who play direct through midfield (play sissoko and tiote but doesn’t work without a strong hold up CF)
A team who play quick pass football, pressing high, on the break playing with width, stretching teams through the wings (need good wingers and pace throughout the team)
We don’t seem to have a philosophy of playing. Or MA isn’t spending enough getting the players needed in.

Comment #57If Ashley has removed Cabaye from the team so that he isn’t harmed for sell then he has sent out an alert that he WILL sell.
He has removed his bluff advantage.
If he doesn’t get the money he wants and he is put back in to the team then it proves Ashley has simply made the club a whorehouse.

Comment #58The dichotomy in the voting shows that no one really knows what will happen in this game (even the bookies are confused) and that reflects our plight: which NUFC will show up? The boring, slow moving one? The hard working, grinding results one? The exciting entertainers? (ok, the last one is a stretch).
Now, I’ll take a scrappy victory. More likely we’re getting a draw. Surely our ex-captain will not do it to us again…

It could be that they cabaye is on his way and they’re planning for life without him, me, I’d play Anita in there, providing he gets plenty of protection, I think he could make this team tick.

Comment #63To many WHU staff want to stick the knife in on the smarmy owner that is cashley
Allardyce, Nolan, Carroll and Maiga
Allardyce is undefeated against us since his sacking, he’ll have his team fired up and they will be brining with confidence after a good opening day game with a greatly strengthened squad
We go into this with the team morale seemingly non existent, our star player omitted from the squad, our only signing injured, the same poor negative formation being used so far as last season, little digs between our manager and our DOF, fans wanting blood and no good news or positives to be seen
Lets hope the cabs situation get the lads to pull together and they really go for it today

Comment #69Going to game today – yet cannot get excited – just frustration which is starting to get to me.
The next TEN days in my eyes are the most important in the future/destiny of the club and which way ASHLEY wants to take the club. (Two home games decides manage, players in/out.)
WORST CASE SCENARIO –
TOON will loose a couple of players on the last day of transfer window – suddenly start floundering trying to sign Alas the cry is -TO LATE.
Pardew will walk/get the sack because of transfer activity.
Kinnear will come in when window shuts so players cannot get away before January

Agree but it needs sorting because if cabs leaves we have a very defensive looking central midfield! Tiote sissoko Anita
For some reason pardew won’t play Marv or benny in the centre so our most attacking CM becomes……………..Gosling!
