Newcastle Deal For Gomis A Few Hundred Thousand Short

We reported earlier today that Bafe Gomis has decided not to sign a new contract at Lyon, and he will now see out the last year of his five-year deal, and become a free agent next summer, and is likely to get a nice signing on fee form whatever club he joins at that time.

Jean-Michael Aulas

Jean-Michel Aulas – Lyon President annoyed Newcastle deal didn’t get done

It’s not surprising that Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas is not happy at the news, since the French club will lose out on up to €10M on their player.

That’s what the Magpies offered for the striker, and Aulas seems frustrated the Newcastle deal didn’t go through – and there is news in lesport10.com today in France, that Newcastle were only a few hundred thousand euros short of making the deal happen.

This is some of what Aulas tweeted today:

“For a few dollars more, it’s ugly”.

So here again we have Newcastle standing on principle, and refusing to pay out that little bit more to get a good player through the door – but that can be like cutting off your nose to spite your face – so to speak.

And that’s what we did last summer with Mathieu Debuchy.

Of course the other way to look at it is that it was Bafe’s agents wanting too much in fees that killed the deal, and that’s becoming far too common place these days in football and spoiling the game.

The Lyon President and Bafe are at an impasse again, but they have been that way all summer, ever since Aulas decided he wanted to get some money off his top striker by selling him this summer

We think Lyon and Gomis’ agents would now be very willing to do a deal – rather than lose out on some big money once September 3rd rolls around.

We don’t know all the ins-and-outs of the actual situation with Gomis, which is said to be very complicated, but wouldn’t this be a good time for Newcastle to go in and tie up the deal ?

Are we missing something here – what Joe’s telephone number? 😀

What do you think is going on?

I hope we win today and I never, ever want us to lose.

I do feel though that a defeat is the best thing for the club.

    Anyone else get that feeling?

They appeared to keep moving the goalposts on this transfer by most media reports. I think we offered a good price for a guy who is 28 & not exactly the worlds greatest striker.

Conversely. Why lose out on a few thousand if you’re Lyon when you risk getting nothing. They could of accepted it.

    Greedy.

I actually don’t have a problem with Newcastle standing their ground (Arsenal are doing the same), and I honestly think clubs feeding the sharks of football are part of the problem and not the solution…

…if Aulas want rid of Gomis that much then why don’t he pay the agents that few hundred thousands extra punds/euros?

I agree in never wanting us to lose but i get your point. A win but a shockingly poor performance today might motivate ashley to see he needs to invest a bit more heavily in bringing in plenty of new faces & spending some money in the remaining week of the transfer window!

This is the first home game of the season where I have thought, anything can happen, on the plus side, no Taylor , no Jonas, and santon is fit, on the negative side no Remy , so I’m not even sure what Pardew will play.
Krill ,debuchy, collo, mbiwa and santon back 5
Socks, Cabaye and marveaux midfield and
Gouffy Cisse and Benny up top

That would be my team, substitute cabaye for Anita if Pards is too afraid to risk his £25 mil.

As I said, ….anything can happen

    @ beattie

I get where you are coming from m8 . Shock tactics seem to be the only thing that gets Mike Ashleys intredt transfer wise, and if we are still rock bottom of the league after this weekend he might be “forced” to invest like in January .

On Gomis, how much is Ashley worth again ? . Missing out on a player and jeapordising our PL security for the sake of a couple hundred grand.

We need the type of owner that wants the biggest Yacht in the world that knows you can’t spend money when you are dead. Not the penny pinching slob currently at the helm.

    As people are pointing out.

Maybe a heavy defeat will make Ashley react and do the things he should’ve done already.

Invest and alter the coaching set up.

I’m sure Aulas’ comment was directed at Gomis for saying he wants to sit on his contract and leave for free in 2014 rather than directed at us.

Secondly Kinnear wont be at SJP because he’s apparently travelling to Europe again today to watch a game and then speak with the president of a yet unnamed club.

Itsa Gomis, not Falcao. The lad and his agents need to take a look at themselves. Maybe we should be in for better anyway. If we have an extra couple of million we wouldn’t be buying their boy anyway.

    Jesper

You could also argue agents are doing what they think is fair. If you are getting your client to go to a team than wants/needs him and the selling club gets 7/8mil, the players gets maybe 60k a week then the agent could think he is entitled to a few hundred thousand himself for making the deal possible.

I know people complain a lot about agents but before they came around as much as they are now players would often be signing deals with loads of hidden clauses and for a small amount of money as they couldn’t negotiate their deals well themselves.

So it may make deals harder but at least now players who earn their clubs tens/hundreds of millions a year get their fair cut of that.

hoping for a win today but if AP persist in playing a 4-2-3-1 we will struggle

    my prediction NUFC 1 – WHU 2

scorers Sissoko – Nolan & Daime

excuses ( we played well but we didn’t have Jonas who is a prolific goal scorer OR the weather ruined our style of play )

And here we’re assuming that Aulas’ tweet is referring to Newcastle not coughing up rather than Bafé making the decision to run down his contract in order to leave on a free so clubs are willing to give him a higher wage in lieu of paying the club a transfer fee? I feel like that is probably the ‘uglier’ option of the two and quite possibly the one Aulas was referring to.

Anyone know if cabaye is to play today?

John Anderson made a great point on radio Newcastle last night. He said if he was still playing an a big club had bid for him not only would he have played but he’d have played better as he’d want to show that club what they were getting by bidding for him. By sulking the buying club could lose interest as they think you don’t have the right attitude

I am hoping that Gomis has told Lyon he won’t sign at this late stage ,knowing our bid is the only one with substance and cash, and probably thinks atlas will cave and pay the agents (like the way it’s normally done) or risk getting nothing in January when he signs a pre contract agreement with someone (maybe us).
Either way, I can see Gomis and Ayew in before next weekends home game.

I just hope the right people see it that way and agree.

Aulas is a tool, gents! You think we have it bad, its nothing compared to that bloke.

I can still see gomis showing up this window, because he wants to come to us, aulas will either back down and ship him out, or he will come in the next window and his club will haemorrhage money.

Gomis – Thauvin and Ayew would do me. If cabs is going, throw sakho in the deal and we will be ok.

I know some will say this will never happen, but they are realistic targets.

    Match day gents! HWTL

…just my take on it all. But agree Aulas is a tool, but still a very good business man when it comes to football (MA won’t even reach he to the socks)
