Report That PSG To Make €20M Offer For Cabaye

5:43 pm, Saturday, August 24th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 78 Comments

There are reports in France that French Champions PSG are readying a £17M (€20M) offer for Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye, who missed the second game of the season for Newcastle today – and we assume Newcastle will dock his wages for missing the first two games of the season – or fine him – or both.

yohan cabaye black and whire halves

Yohan Cabaye – missing again today

The report is that PSG manager Laurent Blanc attended a PSG board meeting last week, and tried to persuade the club to put in a big enough bid to tempt Newcastle United to part with their star French International play-maker.

This is in conflict with reports yesterday that PSG had pulled out of the race with Arsenal to sign Cabaye, and that their summer transfer business was complete.

Arsenal will hardly be willing to raise their £12M bid by much, and Mike Ashley will hold out for a full £20M – and we think that’s exactly what the Newcastle owner should do.

And if no club comes in with that offer – then Yohan stays with Newcastle – whether he likes that or not – and we’d like to see Newcastle get a little bit tougher with this player.

It’s hard to know if this latest news has any truth to it – but the Yohan Cabaye affair, and his apparent bizarre and selfish refusal to play for Newcastle has only had a detrimental effect on Newcastle’s start to this Premier League season.

Newcastle need to tell the fans exactly what’s going on with Yohan Cabaye, and why he hasn’t been playing for the team.

Cabaye has progressed from a decent player to be a world-class French International since he joined Newcastle two years ago – and maybe he should remember that, and pay the club some respect by playing for the team that pays him big money to play.

Comments welcome.

£20 million or 20 pence it won’t be reinvested .

Nice of him to recomend nufc to his mates then do a runner.
However i dont think he would have made much impact today.

  • 5 Dragon64 // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:47 PM

If its 17 million, 20, or even 25 don’t think he is worth that and it the end of the day Newcastle won’t see a penny of it fat boy will take the lot.

  • 6 theartfuldodger // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:49 PM

Cisse was a liability. Not counting shola we have just gouffran.

  • 7 Transfer Sage // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:49 PM

If he goes I’m not worried. Obviously prefer to keep him.

Marv can play the central attacking role as can HBA. Even vukic could.

I know transfers are better early but if our plan is to wait to get the best deal I can live with it, as long as they are in by the end of te window. Minimum 2 more needed, really 4, 5 if cabaye leaves.

  • 8 spitfire_ // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:50 PM

All I want for Christmas is… Ashley’s chopper to have two defective parts until the fat prick flying around. Too aggressive? Good.

  • 9 Rotonda heights // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:50 PM

what’s the point of keeping an unhappy player for a few dollars more? He gets depressed as it is. 17M is fair enough or he will lose value like Tiote and Benny have.

  • 10 Zebras4Life // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:50 PM

Already accepted he is gone and we will replace him w a player rated at €4m. Just the way we roll. Hopefully that money is for someone the can score up top

Anita and Sissoko works very well IMO.

It is understood it is Cabaye refused to play for #nufc today

The quicker Cabaye f..ks off the better. FFS PARDEW, put Santon at RB and Dummett at LB. Its not hard. Debuchy is a cart horse.

    I want McCarthy and Boudebouz

  • 16 Rotonda heights // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:51 PM

you don”t really think that would occur to pardew to play marv there do you?

  • 17 Transfer Sage // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:52 PM

Not sure what debuchy did wrong today.

Got done a couple times but wingers do beat defenders at times. If they didn’t football would be dull.

  • 18 Santon03 // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:52 PM

Even if we bought 3 more good players, we will not see any improvement in results.
I don’t think we can even win aginst team like Hull, Hellas Verona, Catania, etc. Teams with a lot less quality than ours.

  • 19 daztoon // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:53 PM

If Cabaye refused to play then needs to be fined and banished to train with youth squad

  • 20 Transfer Sage // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:53 PM

No idea. He did once t home to Wigan last year and be looked good. Might try it, you never know. Seemed to allow HBA and Marv to drift central a lot today.

Pardew – ‘We cant compete with the big teams’

  • 22 Munster Mag // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:54 PM

A few home truths that I feel I have to re-iterate for some of the more stupid fan here:

    1. Carr is overrated.
    2. Debuchy is slow. I said this on day one and the muppets who backed our slow purchase of him slagged me off
    3. Anita may be small, but players from Ajax are goo. Give him a chance
    4. Will people stop overrating Marveaux please. He lacks energy.
    5. 442 can work fine with the right players. What is far more important is energy desire and skill. Why do so many goons on here spend tine creating 3-2-3-2 etc etc formations . Are ye just bored?

    What a load of arse….

  • 23 Spuggy // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:54 PM

Cabayes behaviour a disgrace. He’s always been a bit petulant.

  • 24 West Lancs Geordie // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:54 PM

Spot on Dragon. It’s all about asset stripping now. He’s decided we can’t compete in the Premiership & just wants to get as much money back as he can before the fire sale. Like previous occasions no replacement will be lined up & the usual quote will come out : We tried hard to bring suitable players in but failed to do so. Loan players at best to make up the numbers.

  • 25 Santon03 // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:55 PM

Watching Hellas Verona vs AC Milan, Verona looks good and play hard, good fighting spirits. Score : 1-1

  • 26 theartfuldodger // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:55 PM

    Sage,I meant these initial games.
Remy would have made a difference though today.

  • 27 Transfer Sage // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:56 PM

I don’t think Carr is overrated. He works very well and gets a lot of players.

If your told to scout players available at a low price, who ask for low wages what do you think that gets? Average players.

He’s also only one man, can’t scout the whole world alone. Needs a bigger team around him I feel.

  • 28 Dragon64 // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:56 PM

Until you do something about fat boy it will never get better. Fat boy will never buy players we want . So what’s the point of going on about who we should get.
Shit manager and even worse manager and then there’s joker joe say no more so fed up with this crap.

  • 29 Spuggy // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:56 PM

    Great goal by Sturridge.

  • 30 Toon1978 // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:57 PM

CABAYE should be sacked and he should be stopped from signing for other clubs. He is being paid to play Football. He should be playing. While the fans suffer, he refuses to play getting a nice pay check ad getting his move in the end. WHAT a spoilt brat.

  • 31 Dragon64 // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:57 PM

Should of said owner derrrrrrrrr lol

  • 32 Tayls // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:58 PM

I would take £17m+ for him if he doesn’t want to play, I have Anita can play that deep lying play maker role and Moussa has the box to box position on lock. As poor as the result may seem today at least there were some positives.

Our defence looked solid with Colo, Mbwia and Santon all doing well, not convinced with Debuchy but a clean sheet none the less.

Anita looked the classy little CM we all know he can be, and Moussa put in a solid shift. Samy looked good as well, performed better than Marveux who was very quiet. Ben Arfa again excited with his quick direct dribbling, but the passing was not sharp and the shooting was way off.

Our shooting was atrocious, at this level you only get a couple of clear cut chances a game and unfortunately we missed the one that came (Gouffran)! We need a quality striker in the team as I don’t know what has happened to Cisse and we all know Shola.

    Howay man JFK do something!!

  • 33 West Lancs Geordie // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:58 PM

Hugotoon. Regretablly he’s right! We can’t even compete with Cardiff, Swansea, Norwich, Fulham, West Ham & maybe Hull & Palace. Bony went to Swansea, Wolfswinkel to Norwich. Looks like JFK got Willian mixed up with Will I Am as we were never in with Chelsea at £32M.
The whole set up is a farce!

  • 34 Transfer Sage // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:58 PM

Ah right. Still three strikers (although one shola) isn’t too much different to most sides except the top 2 clubs.

Chelsea have 3, spurs had only 2 last year, arsenal have giroud only (podolski and Walcott can play there too I guess but used wide)….so not like we are miles off others .

  • 35 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:58 PM

Its the Pardew excuse train, chooo…..choooo….

    Will it be:

number 1 – It was the weather
    number 2 – It was Cabaye’s fault
number 3 – we was still tired from Europe last year

Take you’re pick, they are all bullsh*t .

  • 36 Tayls // Aug 24, 2013 at 5:59 PM

  • 41 Transfer Sage // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:01 PM

    Might get stick for this.

Joe Kinnear might take a lot of flack but how much say will be have in negotiations. Charney did a lot of that and Ashley did some personally.

Even if joe has some say it will be to stick in certain financial peramiters and if they are too low there’s little he can actually do. He doesn’t help himself with what he says but at the end of the day Ashley is the hindrance here, not JK

  • 42 JackButler // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:01 PM

Evening lad’s, I take it that even though we took a point we still play that well today?

  • 43 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:01 PM

If Cabaye refused to play today then FCUK Cabaye, Pardew,Kinnear & most of all Ashley .

We should replace Cabaye with Wijnaldum then get Lukaku on loan and then I might start going to games again.

    Ed, Ed, Ed,
A game has just finished and you’re back on to your favourite subject. If you want to add new articles, talk about individual performances (that’s like 13 articles!), break down our tactics (what tactics?), discuss set plays etc. Come on dude, drop this until it’s done and dusted, it’s getting old.

  • 46 JackButler // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:03 PM

*we still didn’t play that well*

  • 47 believeintoon // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:03 PM

    Rotonda heights

I agree with you. We have to do something to change this situation.Draw against WestHam is not good, too.
But we have started the season and it’s too risky to change things at this stage. If we had to make a change,it should have been in the early summer.

And I don’t think Ashley will bring those persons you’ve mentioned.

First reason is no proper manager wants to work under MA and JFK.

Second,MA will not work that hard to bring a proper manager and just bring he’s friends like JFK.
To be honest,I hoped the club will bring Benitez or some better manager this early summer.
But he didn’t do that and just stayed with Pardew. So it showed the lack of ambition.
So I think if we sack Pardew at this moment, we will definitly be relegated.

Well Pardew is really awful with his tactics, but at least he has the passion for Newcastle and looks like he still has the trust from the players like Coloccini and BenArfa, the key players.

These are just my opinion so I won’t say I’m right and you are wrong, but I do think this way strongly.
So even I’m not satisfied at all,I will be with Pardew as long as the team show the performance like today and stay in the Premier League at the end of the season.
But I do hope for a big change in the next summer if the situation don’t change.

And Cabaye…well just sell him and finish this rubish situation.
BUT!!! bring a high quality creative midfielder.

  • 48 Transfer Sage // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:04 PM

I seem to be going against the general consensus but I thought we looked better.

Struggled on the final third and lacked urgency til the 75th minute but for me signs of improvement were there, passing was much better an quicker with Anita instead of tiote and it didn’t make us any weaker defensively.

  • 49 daztoon // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:04 PM

“Defensively we did not put in a bad performance, offensively we know we have to improve, but we had some key players missing today and hopefully when we play Fulham one or two will be back.”

So that`s Tiote and Jonas back for Fulham

  • 50 Indian Magpie // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:05 PM

4 games at home Without scoring
    Pardew still here
    Cabaye debacle.

at least the rot has stopped.
    Kinnear may have learnt something
MYM-colo did well, from what i read.

  • 51 Toon1978 // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:05 PM

    West Lancs Geordie

There is a difference between can’t and won’t. We can compete with 75% of the EPL but MA won’t. He has taken all of the money that was given to the club last season and he will keep whatever we make from sales. The man is very selfish. He doesn’t care anymore. He wasn’t even at the game by all accounts today. Probably on the phone to PSG wanting them to push through deal for Cabaye. Its stinks mannnn. And to think we could have had Citys owners at NUFC. It makes me sick to my stomach.

  • 52 peaco1980 // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:06 PM

We could sign Messi tomorrow and we’d still be sh*te. Why? Because the tw@ managing the team would continue to play route one hoofball circa 1970.

At present we have a coach (apparently that’s what he is) who cannot get the team to equate to the sum of its parts – Pardew out – Mike Basset in!

  • 53 Transfer Sage // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:06 PM

    Or possibly remy and cabaye?

  • 54 Indian Magpie // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:07 PM

I will never trust Pardew, I think he is trying to turn Cabaye against the fans

  • 55 Transfer Sage // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:07 PM

We struggled today but we were far from root one hoofball. It was on the ground today.

  • 56 believeintoon // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:08 PM

I hate Pardew saying ”we can’t compete with the big clubs”
It just shows he is not good enough.

The smaller clubs like Swansea is trying to compete with them and doing really well against them.
They are showing great football, good transfers.
So even we don’t have huge money like the big clubs,we can compete with them if we have a good manager and ambition from the board.

  • 57 daztoon // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:08 PM

    @Transfer Sage

Be nice to think that mate but what we see as key players is totally different from Pards

  • 58 JackButler // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:08 PM

    Transfer Sage

It’s that lack of urgency that really worries me, as it was the same last season and against City.

I’m landed that Anita did well, hope now that Pardew can finally see what he can offer us instead of always reverting back his trusted ‘Friends’ list.

But not surprised we were lacking in the final third as it’s been that way since Ba left and it will not change until we either sign someone or when Remy is fit to play

  • 59 Munster Mag // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:08 PM

Carr is overrated….I’ve nothing aganst him, and like him overall, but we overrate him.

    – Is Santon a good defender – No
    – Is Debuchy a good defender- No
    -Cabaye – Great signing
    – Was Obertan a good buy – No ( why did we lose Routledge??)
    – Amalfitano – No
    – He scouted Maiga for us ….he’s not a great striker either
-Is Marveaux a good signing – No , he looks lazy and lacks consistent influence on games.

So whilst he has made some good signings, I wouldnt get carried away….Mind you Pardew’s football and training skills are not helping anyone….how the hell did we get 5th??

  • 60 Transfer Sage // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:09 PM

To be honest it’s more likely Ashley told pardew not to play cabaye so an injury doesn’t stop him getting 20mil. But then pardew can’t say that, doesn’t want to stick it on cabaye either so says he withdrew him as his heads not in the right place (ie Paris).

Not pardew or cabaye at fault but Ashley himself.

Just speculation but its my view.

  • 61 Santon03 // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:10 PM

Verona 2 – 1 Milan, Luca Toni scored

  • 62 Santon03 // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:11 PM

it was very very good counter attack

  • 63 lesh // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:11 PM

The drawback to PSG making an offer at this stage is that is that we’ll play hardball, PSG’ll refuse to increase its offer and come the closure of the window, Cabaye will either have gone after an increased offer.

But, that offer will have been made and accepted so close to its closure that Kinnear will claim it happened so late, he couldn’t get new players in.

That being so, I think we can take it as confirmation that Ashley and Kinnear had no intention whatsoever of investing in the squad. Not that we really need that confirmation.

The result? Pardew under increased pressure, restless fans, disillusioned and demotivated players, Kinnear installed as manage pending his recruitment of a leg/ yes man such as Harford and, all the ingredients of another relegation.

Oh, the joys that supporting Newcastle United brings with it and just think how tedious life would be without that.

TS, agree mate. Cabaye is being kept fit, although I dont think he wants to play. He’s always had a petulent side, as shown by his nasty cynical incidents sinec he cane here. get 20 mill and spend the money Ashley, “the greatest owner we;ve ever had ”

Yes, and Chlamydia is better than Syphilis….

  • 68 Transfer Sage // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:13 PM

Santon was a. Excellent defender under mourinho and does well for Italy. Maybe our coaching.

Everybody said debuchy had a good euro for France last summer so maybe more down to us too?

Marv doesn’t get a run often in the team, looks ok, likes a central role but usually played on the left so harsh to judge.

Amalfitano was a gamble as a free, neer seen him play much but not looking good.

Then good signings cabaye, mbiwa, Ba, cisse, remy (looked the part at QPR), sissoko, gouff. Most haven’t set the league on fire but with the money the club spend they have been good for the price we paid.

  • 69 believeintoon // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:14 PM

    If Cabaye refused—really disappointed.

If Pardew stopped him to play—why??

If Ashley stopped him to play—just go away!

Whatever is going on,I really want this to be solved quickly. Not a good way to start the season.
Make it clear.20M and sell him and bring in players.Under that price, keep him.

well you have just proved that you always want to stay negative about your comments

“First reason is no proper manager wants to work under MA and JFK.”

“I hate Pardew saying ”we can’t compete with the big clubs”
It just shows he is not good enough.”

you have already said that no good manager would want to work under Ashley

pardew has decided to speak the truth saying that
which means while this is our owner we can’t compete with the top clubs

so what do you want the manager to give praise that we are capable of competing with the top teams with this owner or this owner makes it impossible for that

  • 71 nut meg // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:22 PM

Keep going bonny lad,you seen the same game as me.Your talking a lot of sense & with a cool head. IMHO we are badly in need of a creative AMF who is also a goal scorer to link the play up to the forwards. The quicker we get Remy to play up front the better. HBA,although great to watch doesn’t create anything at all. Another creative goal scorer on the left wing & we’re good to go.

  • 72 peaco1980 // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:25 PM

You missed the point; we could have the worlds greatest player (who is also, well, short) playing upfront, and Pardew would not set his tactics according to the relative merits of the players available to him. Contrary to your reply, this was not an observation on today, rather a metaphor for the continuing theme of utter ineptitude served up to us.

We struggled today playing 4-4-2 but where was the wing play? We continue to struggle because Pardew is inept.

  • 73 toon kk // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:25 PM

There’s alot of the unknown and mystery going on within our club. Pardew only knows so much but it’s more than his jobs worth so he must keep zipped.
Ive said all along MA waiting for a sale before he buys, trouble is times running out.

  • 74 West Lancs Geordie // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:33 PM

Just think Spuggy we could have had Sturridge for about a third of the money we got for Carroll.

  • 75 ballerfan2 // Aug 24, 2013 at 6:37 PM

Transfer Sage – unfortunately you are not about to change anyone’s mind with your more reasonable opinions. It has been decided that Debuchy’s is the latest target for abuse, so no one is willing to recognise that he may have played OK today. The same applies to the “hoofball” myth. I don’t think we’ve played the ball long since last season but don’t let the facts get in the way of the anti Pardew rant.

  • 76 Bambams // Aug 24, 2013 at 7:42 PM

If Ashley wanted our club to do well he would spend the money.
It is so simple, look at Spurs they know they will get a fortune for Bale so do their business now so when they do sell him they wont need to pay hugely inflated prices set by other clubs knowing that they have 100 million in their pockets.
Our regime are clueless car boot dealers

  • 77 isleofmanman // Aug 24, 2013 at 8:34 PM

I don’t believe that some people here said last year that they want him to be (and that he will be) the future NUFC captain.

I said he is not the man for the job and after this c**p, I am right twice. I thought he is wrong because of his less then nice behavior on the pitch towards other teams players, like pushing, and kicking players, getting into fights etc. But together with this behavior towards the club, wow, he is a piece if S***
