There’s a report in the People today that Newcastle are interested in 25 year-old Watford striker Troy Deeney.
Troy Deeney – 25 year-old Watford striker
Certainly Newcastle need to bring in one more striker in the next eight days, so we’ll probably be seeing Newcastle linked with a number of possibilities in the coming week, but it’s difficult to know which reports have any truth to them.
Deeney was born in Birmingham, and had an excellent season last term when Watford made the play-off final, but were beaten 1-0 by Crystal Palace, and in 43 appearances for Watford, Deeney scored 20 goals.
But there’s a huge gap in class between the Championship and the Premier League, and Gateshead-born Danny Graham two years ago scored 27 goals in 49 appearances for Watford.
But Danny has found it hard to scored goals in the Premier League with Swansea, Sunderland and now Hull City – he’s scored 21 goals in 75 appearances in England’s top division – and all of those were at Swansea.
The 6′ tall striker joined Watford from Walsall in 2010 for £750K, and in 134 appearances for the Hornets, the he’s scored a total of 40 goals.
Newcastle need to bring a striker in soon, but we’d still like to see Lyon’s Bafe Gomis brought in before a week next Monday, when this summer’s transfer window closes, and so far it’s been a disaster for the Magpies.
Not sure if Deeney has the class to make it in the Premier League, and he’s never been capped by England at any level, but we suppose he would come cheap enough.
What do you think?
