Some good news for Newcastle this afternoon, as Tim Krul is fit enough to start the game, and Yohan Cabaye and Loic Remy are both on the bench for Newcastle.
And with Yohan being on the bench, that says to us there cannot be much truth in the Times report today that a £14M deal is close to being agreed between Newcastle and Arsenal for Cabaye – no way – so that’s potentially good news for Newcastle.
Newcastle will play in an attacking 4-4-2 formation with Shola Ameobi and Papiss Cisse up front and Ben Arfa and Sylvain Marveaux on the wings, with the central midfield being run by Moussa Sissoko and Vurnon Anita, who both had good games last week against West Ham.
In fact it’s the same team that started last week against West Ham, and Sammy Ameobi is a little unlucky not to shade Sylvain Marveaux for a starting place on the left wing this afternoon.
Paul Dummett and Dan Gosling both make the bench after good games at Morecambe, but there’s no place for Gael Bigirimana or Curtis Good, with Steven Taylor still suspended and Cheick Tiote out injured.
Darren Bent starts up front for Fulham – so let’s hope he doesn’t manage to get a goal against us today.
We need a win today and that will send the Geordie spirits flying.
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #441Gouffran Remy HBA front three, interchanging and swapping positions and a midfield three of Anita, Cabaye and Sissoko. That would have me excited about the football we could be playing.

What are you on? I mean, are you actually being serious?
Also, scoring is little part of the game that, you know, wins matches. It’s a bit

Comment #447Ben Arfa is very good potentially excellent – he’ll never reach the heights of a Messi, Ronaldo, or even a Ribery, Hazard, etc – especially not under Pardew’s tutelage.
What he does have is a big heart and he doesn’t hide.
Why won’t Pardew just take the shackles off from the start? I preferred when we went out to win games like we have this last 15, not lull everyone into a stupor with pointless possession.
Much more lustre in that final 15 – I hope it made an indelible impression on Pardew!

Lots of the ball, no real chances created, wonder goal from Benny, 3 points.

Comment #451WHY DID IT TAKE PARDEW 78MIN TO MAKE PLAYERS COMMIT TO ATTACKING POSITIONS ON THE FINAL THIRD? something is up, and also, Cabaye is off I hope so. Anita did everything correctly and brilliantly still subbed off.

Comment #453Have you even been watching the game Ruddy? Seriously.. talk about negativity! We’ve been looking pretty great against a fullham side who’s had a good start to the season… We had som trouble in front of the goal, but atleast we’re creating chances.. When a supporter does’nt go crazy with joy over a hard earned victory you have to start doubting his conviction!! HWTL!!!! We’ve started winning 😀 Now lets keep winning

Comment #454Someone must have banged Pardew on the head and told him to put Cabaye and Remy on the pitch. INSTANT change when both went on. We were great in second half but we still lack that decisive striker. Sissoko should have scored. HBA, what a strike lad!

Comment #455Pardew made subs to positively impact the game, which is positive. He started Anita and Marveaux, which is positive, and he pushed forward in search of the goal and finished the game 4-3-3 which is positive.
The first half was shocking, which is negative, Cisse is a shadow of his former self and should be dropped, which is a negative, and Cabaye looks like he cannot wait to get out of dodge, for whatever reason, which is a negative.
Still, we’ve got 3 points further away from relegation.

Comment #456The best last 20 mins of an absolute age.
This was how we played during that 6 game winning streak.
Pardew please don’t dismiss it again that’s when all the problem started. Remy can be our Ba out left in the front 3.
Remy just seemed to massively lift us

Comment #459When Remy came on it lifted the crowd superbly and whatever shape they had taken up with that change worked! Fulham looked very wary when he came on, defensively we look sound bar a lapse or 2 of concentration, colo for me is the worst long ball offender along with krul, but we looked slick at times…
The difference in those last 15/20 mins was the want was there again from the players, something that has been missing for a while.

Of course you are right. Unfortunately.
Jonas will return. Tiote will return. Players who should get a starting place will sit on the bench. The tactic won’t change. etc etc.
Still, we can at least enjoy this moment of magic from Benny.
And to those who don’t like him. Well. He is our best player. The reason for most parts that he is not doing the right thing is, because the team is not playing like a team, not moving and not opening up. When he sees a good pass, he will make it. Players are just too static so he holds the ball, tries to make players move, create space. It is better than just giving the ball away like most players do.

Comment #465Is anyone else worried about the amount of missed chances in that game?
All in all, a decent performance with much better football on show. I was, however, not happy until the Benny goal but give credit where it is due.
Still doesn’t take away from the fact that we need more faces. One or two injuries and we are in trouble.
P.S. As a Pardew hater, he got the subs right this game finally but how could he not? Would like to see if he would do the same if Jonas and Tiote were on the bench.

Comment #470Cisse is absolutely shattered to pieces with his confidence, he needs benched if we can get someone to put the pressure on before Tuesday, remy could play it too. With Goofy wide and Ben 10 opposite cabaye sitting in the hole pulling strings (if he doesn’t go) in his favourite position with Anita and sissoko holding we could do well, we relly really need a striker and some meat on the bones at the halfway point would placate me… I haven’t felt so relieved about 3 points in a long time.

Comment #471now do you see why I have been shouting so much that we need a winger
all during the first half we e so compact that Fulham were finding it so easy o close us down not one of the players we started with have got the pace you need for that this is the premier league not the French league.
it was once remy comes on we finally got the width we needed on not one side but both sides also we had the CM who were creative down the middle too.
this team just needs 1 forward and 1 winger then go 4-4-2 but this is not just any 4-4-2 it is a one which can go 4-3-3 which is just like it was that year we went so good and finished 5th
the team I would have is
____________krul___________
debuchy__mbiwa_colo__santon
HBA__cab/anita__sissoko__winger/Sammy
________remy___cisse/striker
and what can happen to help confuse the opposition is
when we are on the attack we have 1 side doing the cross while the other side is in the box
_______sissoko
HBA_______cabaye____sammy
_______and the two forwards.

Comment #473Our defence was much better today,
Benny is world class but doesn’t show it enough .
Probably because he’s got rubbish players and manager around him than dont know how to make runs for him to make space.
He does have his faults with pushing the ball too far ahead at times or not passing when he should but magic feet for sure.
Collo and Yanga were class as was our backs
Remy looked tidy

Comment #475Agree with Godfella – the introduction of Remy lifted us enormously. Also agree with Rotunda – best last 20 minutes I’ve seen for an age also. If we can take the positivity into the next few matches, keep the ball on the deck and start showing some MOVEMENT – we could avoid relegation!

Much improvement in the 2nd half which I’m relieved.
I hope they will do those good performances right from the start of the game, without the substitutes.
And I hope I will never see Shola Ameobi again from the start of the game.
Goffran and Remy is much better. And hope for another striker as well(Come Gomis!)
But I have to say today’s Fulham was just awful and fully deserved to win for us.
So not satisfied, but happy with the first 3 points.
Krul
Debuchy Mbiwa Colo Santon
Cabaye Anita(Tiote)
Sissoko
HBA Cisse Remy(Goufran)
