A Video Message To Mike Ashley – Make Us Great Again

I think every Newcastle fan will agree with this message – meant for owner Mike Ashley – and it seems especially appropriate on this final day of the summer transfer window.

Yeah have seen interviews with Carr in the past where he said he watches players all the time watches players for years as well said he wanted to bring Cisse/Ba to Man City when he was scout there but work permit issues did not allow it

I think the problem is we basically always look to go the cheap option but I reckon if we had the likes of Levy as a chairman that would invest every year with Carr’s top picks then I think we would have some squad

  • 2 sparky55 // Sep 1, 2013 at 11:50 PM

you have to understand nufc is not an attractive proposition for most decent and well established footballers.

The manager could be sacked any second so you might be out of favour before you blink

Would you be impressed enough by JFK to such an extent you’ll be convinced to join NUFC

The owner has shown the world he is not prepared to invest in new players for the club so what players with any ambition would join us

how many decent players in the UK or Europe would join our club having seen us play for the last 18 months

How many decent players would want to join a club who have publicly declared their ambition to end up tenth.

How many players would want to join a club whose squad is getting smaller by the minute.

and we wonder why JFK hasn’t signed anyone yet!!!!!

even though he is a complete and utter moron, I doubt any DOF in the world could attract players to us right now

  • 3 spitfire_ // Sep 1, 2013 at 11:53 PM

To MA: Do me a favour… drop dead as quickly and painfully you possibly can.

  • 4 nick_9 // Sep 1, 2013 at 11:55 PM

Wynsleap – we’ve known all along Ashley likes
To do things on the cheap however last January was a good window by my book, a striker short but a positive window which is a rarity.

It has to be said that the FCB chants heard at Morecambe won’t really encourage Ashley to spend despite us wanting him to know how we still feel. If the window closes without signings and we lose against Villa i fear he’ll will break loose.

  • 5 santonthenewmaldini // Sep 1, 2013 at 11:56 PM

Also its sickening how much Liverpool have improved they strangled Man Utd today would love us to go out and just work that hard to close teams down at home

We should have done that right from the start against West Ham and Fulham

Villa will be a test but we should send out our front 4 and try and hound them because they are good going forward but they are still shite at the back

  • 6 nick_9 // Sep 1, 2013 at 11:57 PM

Santon – I think we’re so tight it’s becoming very counter productive. Yes we spent 60 million in two years but last season proved if was enough

  • 7 sparky55 // Sep 1, 2013 at 11:58 PM

nick 9…no…it proved Pardew wasn’t the right manager for the job at hand

  • 8 Beattie25 // Sep 1, 2013 at 11:59 PM

The fan base isn’t united. We are all pulling in different directions.

Needless to say I think ridding of ourselves of the cockney trio by any means necessary is the correct course of action.

I reckon 40-60% of fans agree.

It needs to be 80-90% or this will go on for years and years.

  • 9 JK // Sep 1, 2013 at 11:59 PM

I’ve been doing my job and we have over achieved this window if you recognise the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. It could be less players but we have maintained and rejected sales.

I’m even communicating to the fans via this blog and embracing tech like this voice to speech app. Looking forward to a stronger season ahead.

Deactivate. There, that should keep the mob down. S**t where did I park. Designated driver bulls**t where’s my f**cking pint eh? Can’t see s**t up here, f**cking freezing up north. Ash better stick to the – stupid phone still beeping – f**k off!

  • 10 nick_9 // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:00 AM

Wasn’t enough* damn it. Still lacking a striker,
Winger and a cb in my opinion and that’s before anyone leaves.

    Perch – out
    Simpson – out
    Harper – out

    Remy – in on loan

  • 11 JAMSHA // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:00 AM

just shoot fat mafia n his puppys if no players are in my tomoro midgnight

  • 12 ToonDarnSarf // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:01 AM

The second time I’ve said this to someone today, there’s absolutely no need for that at all.

  • 13 MacToon // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:02 AM

I wonder how Carr feels. I wonder if he was aware of Ashley’s ambition, or apparent lack of, before he signed his 8 year contract.

Even I would be shocked and stunned if this is it for the summer window, so much talk and little to no action.

3 players released and 2 sold.
2 players in (1 undisclosed amount for development and 1 loan).

  • 14 wynsleap // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:03 AM

Excellent. Moving and poignant. Can break every Geordie heart.
    Unfortunately Ashley doesn’t have one!

  • 15 santonthenewmaldini // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:06 AM

Its just so annoying is that Ashley has not figured how to run this football club properly and if we were doing well he would not get any grief and his other brands would benefit from it as well he has took so much bad advice that there is probably going to be no way back

We should have been studying Dortmund Porto and Ajax as the blueprints and went and got the proper coaches scouts and facilities to deliver this

Also should have properly engaged the fans (not the fanatical ones that go mental after one game)but the rational thinkers to try and build something together but can never happen now

Either that put all of our efforts into winning the Carling Cup this season and he could pretty much walk over us for the next 20 years as everyone would be too happy too care ha ha

  • 16 JackButler // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:07 AM

Are people really surprised that our business ended with Remy???

We’ll panic buy again in January when we are in trouble……………….again

  • 17 Ben3arfa // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:07 AM

If Cabaye is sold and no signings happen tomorrow there will be riots.

  • 18 ilovetoon8788 // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:08 AM

We are not signing anybody. After the fulham game, Ashley must have thought no new addition is required as we got 3 points.

  • 19 Big Pappa Cissé // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:09 AM

I would say 90% of fans don’t want Ashley here and it is 60/40 on Pardew with me being in the 40 against Pards.

Although on the blog it seems like more people want Pardew gone. Ed I would like to see a poll on if people want Pardew gone if you get a spare 5 minutes.

  • 20 jokinoot // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:10 AM

Can’t see cabaye going arsenal signing Ozil 42 mill doesn’t matter does it he’s a waste of time and space roll on january

  • 21 ToonDarnSarf // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:10 AM

Miserable lot on here tonight. I’ll sign on again after 11pm and see if you have something to complain about regarding transfers…

  • 22 Beattie25 // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:11 AM

Half a billion spent and we have contributed nothing to that.

  • 23 Toonacious T // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:11 AM

We will win f@ck all squared with the Fat Controller in charge. West Brom, Arsenal and Newcastle United the only teams left to spend nothing. Arsenal will apparently spend big on Ozil tomorrow, leaving us in the esteemed company of the only team in the league not to score a goal thus far this season. Ambition indeed.

  • 24 JackButler // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:12 AM

Please don’t tell us that you are still holding out hope that we will actually sign anyone

  • 25 Sazzer // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:13 AM

Juve with 17 m bid on Nainggolan and Inter with late bid on Boudebouz. And we said no to Sow some reports say. Ayew played tonight. Thauvin to Marseille and Tottenham wants to loan back Ince. And Gomis looks dead.

Obertan to Nottingham on loan might indicate we have some deal line up. Not looking good at moment.

  • 26 Ben3arfa // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:14 AM

Record TV deal for the 2013/2014 season and that fat pr1ck is investing it into his tacky sports direct gears and Kinnear’s dodgy pacemaker.

    Bloody scum running the show,

  • 27 Sazzer // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:18 AM

Psg says business is done. No expensive Kebab for them.

  • 28 Beattie25 // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:18 AM

The worst thing is, if we sign nobody all the majority will do is bitch and moan on Twitter and this blog and still turn up each and every week to support the team AND the regime.

    Just cattle being herded.

  • 29 vennycal // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:19 AM

Can all the fans keep standing outside of SJP & inside the stadium during the match & asking MA, JKF & AP to step down???

We all can see MA is killing our club! Yup, he has made a financial structure since he arrived but he has no ambition to make us get stronger! We can see how other PL clubs which is smaller than us is doing way better than us

And it is meaningless to buy any new players somehow bcos AP knows nothing on tactics but excuses only. Our gameplay is sXXt. His game plan is totally outdated. He never make our players improved from training.

  • 30 Beattie25 // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:22 AM

    Mike Ashley is the handler.

    Pardew is the sheepdog.

    The fans are the sheep.

Ashley whistles, Pardew barks, the sheep bleat and are moved into the pen.

    Baa Baa Baa

  • 31 Big Pappa Cissé // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:23 AM

Ashley bringing in Kinnear is a master stroke on his part. When the window slams shut at 11:pm on Monday night he is hidden away whilst Kinnear the Scapegoat takes all the flak for not bringing anyone in.

If that is the case we have been strung along for the best part of two momths now. Total Joke unless you are Kinnear, gets a salary cushy job and a holiday FFS.

  • 32 Beattie25 // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:25 AM

Also Alan Pardew gets to hide behind Kinnear.

JFK is getting paid to be the fall guy, nothing more.

  • 37 Laurent Robert 32 // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:31 AM

Sparky, good analysis of the game on the other thread. Papering over the cracks it certainly is. I noticed the sly one soaking in the applause at the end as well too, rather than the usual spineless act of straight down the tunnel.

The winning goal was simply an act of individual brilliance. Teamwork nowhere to be seen, yet Pardew laps it up and even has the nerve to find a couple of public criticisms of the lad, when he should be offering cheeseburgers in a brown paper bag (like in Menace To Society) for Ben Arfa.

Benny has just saved him for a little bit longer until he hopefully leaves the club and takes his lower league football brain and lies with him.

Time for sleep. The Nightmares us selling Cabs and out of desperation make Bendtner begins now.

  • 42 RonVanDam // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:44 AM

Looks like MA thinks we have a big enough team with lots of Fringe players stepping up i.e Sammy, Dummett, Bigirimana, Gosling and Good coming through we don’t need further investments this window.

We also have a healthy team with hardly anyone on the injured list and the recruitment of Faye as a personal trainer is paying off.

This could be MA’s way of testing AP, now he doesnt have a excuse of Europa and a injury crisis to deal with

  • 43 Sazzer // Sep 2, 2013 at 12:51 AM

Yeah expecting more bad news like that and chances of good news look slim at moment.

If you look at our team, we have enough cover right now: apart from forwards

  • 46 Toonacious T // Sep 2, 2013 at 1:05 AM

22 hours and counting. I’m off to say my prayers. Usual bollox from this regime being scripted for tomorrow’s inactivity no doubt.

  • 47 nick_9 // Sep 2, 2013 at 1:08 AM

We have enough cover but do we have enough quality cover? That’s the issue. Our first eleven picks itself but its slim pickings after that. The issue last year was quality back up, the club even stick a load of youth players on the program to make it look like we have plenty of players

  • 48 Toonacious T // Sep 2, 2013 at 1:08 AM

RVD- half those players are either unproven in the PL or proven to be inadequate to play in it, so I think your argument has isn’t going to wash with many on here amigo. Goodnight.

  • 49 Heslop Toon // Sep 2, 2013 at 1:29 AM

The fans turning up to the stadium week in week out supporting the team is the last scrap of identity our club has. Just read Bobby’s words that a football club is not the directors or the people paid to represent it but rather the noise and the passion and the feeling of belonging. If the fans don’t turn up then we lose that.

  • 50 OhSholaAmeobi // Sep 2, 2013 at 1:33 AM

Cover isn’t the same as quality. That doesn’t include Ryan Taylor out for the season, or the fact that Williamson, Tavernier, Amalfitano, Obertan, Vuckic and Shola aren’t top 10 (or even premier league) quality.

  • 51 JAMSHA // Sep 2, 2013 at 1:35 AM

Probably banks on the fact he’ll find another diamond in the ruff for pennies, so he can keep pressure off him at minimal cost.

Hate to think so negatively after the Jan. spending spree but Ashley baffles me at times.

  • 54 RonVanDam // Sep 2, 2013 at 2:28 AM

Im just saying AP could give then short run ins so they get a taste of whats it like to be playing at such a high level and get them hungry again to try harder. Give them the experience in LC, FA cup and short cameos in winning PL games.

  • 55 lochinvar // Sep 2, 2013 at 4:35 AM

Does a lack of transfer activity indicate that our cost base (players) remains constant while we are under due diligence from a new owner ? Now that would be The Real Deal. Transfer values of Bale And a couple of others would buy our club. That’s a measure of where we’re at.

  • 56 Pizzicato The Arizona Geordie // Sep 2, 2013 at 5:46 AM

Skysports reports that Arsenal is going to sign Ozil. No Cabaye sale here.

  • 57 jimmysmith // Sep 2, 2013 at 6:17 AM

I wonder if this team, and this manager and this owner are still capable of delivering, despite our bitter concerns to the contrary. It is ofcourse still on the cards, there is undoubted talent in the squad, and Newcastle are still one of the great English clubs. After that performance, I will admit I still cling to some glimmer of hope for our season.

I agree, we are not an attractive proposition.Id offer new players 3 yr contracts. Early release might tempt them.
Ashley as usual is looking for cheap labour – almost out of contract or frustrated players who have quality to challenge 1st team.

He wasnt able to get even one.
    It shouldnt surprise us.

Theyv started doing their groundwork for Jan with Ayew, Ince and Sow

  • 62 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Sep 2, 2013 at 6:30 AM

We are in for a long season guys! and maybe some panic buys in January to save our PL status.

Then we will be promised a review at the end of the season where they will say the team didn’t have enough quality and Pardew need help on tactics.

After a long summer holiday alls forgotten and suddenly the team is good enough for a top 10 finish and we have hired a Techical Director as well along side our DoF 😀

  • 63 SeanNufc87 // Sep 2, 2013 at 6:33 AM

    Morning lads!

Todays the day, we will either sign no one or we will, either way ill still attend games, ill still buy a shirt, ill still buy my NUFC slippers I buy every year (from sports direct) and even drink my coffee on a sunday from my free sports direct mug.

I love this club, always have and always will, absolutely nothing will change how I feel and have felt since I was a 5 year old lad.

The colours remain the same, the club is still Newcastle United Football Club, and it still will be, long after mike Ashley is a distant memory.

    I love my club.

Well, according to L’Equipe’s chief sports editor Ayew is a done deal, IF we sell Cabaye. And we have also had a 12million Euro bid turned down for Thauvin. Not sure how much of that I believe, but if we are willing to bid for Thauvin not reliant on Cabaye, why can’t we just do the Ayew deal?

  • 66 JackButler // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:04 AM

Deadline day for Kinnear and Ashley.

Hope the Happy Clapping pro Ashley and Pardew brigade are getting their excuses ready

  • 67 Sir Braveheart // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:04 AM

The idea of a DoF is they sell the club to the player. JK simply isnt good enough, smart enough or coherant enough to do that.

Said it before but Ashley needs to be the one closing deals. He stepped in during January after Remy fell through and we got Sissoko, Gouffran and Mbiwa in a week. He’s a great businessman, driven and ruthless, just what we need to close deals and get players over the line.

  • 68 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:05 AM

  • 71 Ian Toon // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:13 AM

Does anyone really believe that Cabaye refused to play? Personally, I don’t and I think it was disinformation being put about by the club.

We have form in that regard and it was designed to hasten Cabaye’s departure and not to antagonise the fans.

In my opinion Cabaye is our best player and it makes no sense to sell him. I hope he stays.

  • 72 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:14 AM

    JB… lol

  • 73 Santon03 // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:17 AM

I really think the problem is not with how much we want to invest, the problem is with the manager.
Watching the Fulham game, I honestly think that Cisse should be dropped and sold, he is more concern about not getting injured rather than going all out for the team.
Shola may not be enough, but from what I’ve seen he is much better than Cisse and pardew kept Cisse on the pitch. I can’t believe I say this, but I would rather have Shola than Cisse. Jonas is not fit yet, but I bet pardew will pay him once he is 100% fit. We were great against Fulham, we should have been doing that every game, we should be agresive, we have the players to be like that but those players are on the bench. I saw different team on 2nd half, a team with desire to win. I even saw Cabaye fighting for every ball but I didn’t see that in Cisse. We probably need a striker or two, but even if get them it’s not guarantee to win or goals, what we need is the team desire to win. Even our corners are much better now. I won’t complain if we end up with only Remy as our summer transfer, but I would like to see management do something about players like Cisse, I don’t think he deserves to be on the pitch. It doesn’t matter how good he is/was.

  • 74 cyprus // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:20 AM

Not pro-Ashley, although sometimes the attacks are misdirected. Think about it. If you’re girlfriend calls you fat and stingy, what will you do? Go out and buy her a diamond ring? No, unless you are a pathetic loser. Especially if you’ve spent a fifth of your money on her, her Ferrari keeps breaking down and she demands new parts while swearing at you and she never says thanks. She doesn’t even pretend to be your friend…
The target is good, the strategy all wrong.

  • 75 cyprus // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:23 AM

    “you’re” —— “your”

  • 76 Lilongwe Geordie // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:26 AM

Very harsh and damning verdict on Cisse. The lad is a poacher and goalscorer. Unless you create chances then you will never see the best of him. That hinges on getting good delivery into the box, and the synchronising of runs and through balls for him.

Andy Cole did zip at Newcastle unless he got a chance, Lineker, Rush, Darrne Bent all the same, even in their prime.

HBA put a couple of good balls in towards the end, and did it early, Cisse cracked a very good header off the bar from one. If HBA continues to play as he did for the last 15, Remy adds a bit of pace and movement just off Cisse and we retain possession and play football more then it will be a very different Cisse.

Strikers thrive on confidence, if we maintain that last 20minute performance Cisse will score goals and his confidence will return.

  • 77 Toon_Army // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:26 AM

What a nasty immature thing to say, all you did there was make yourself look like a turd.

Totally agree, people forget sometimes it’s only a game; one we feel very passionate about, but the sane among us would never wish any harm to anyone involved in the game, that’s just sickness

If we don’t sign a player, so be it, we will get on with it and cheer the team on as we do every year, lets be thankful we are still in the Premiership, that year in the Championship was unbearable even though we won it.

If MA does not sort himself out he will lose millions from relegation, out team has vey little left in the tank unfortunately and the way the team play at the moment is like they have little confidence…

If we don’t sign anyone can’t we at least give Campbell, Sammy and Fergie a serious bash at the first team, they still have the energy our team surely misses and with them driving us forward it might be able to spark the more senior players into good form…

From what I have read this last year about Thauvin he don’t wanna leave France just yet and Marseilles is almost certain to be his club next. Which brings us to Ayew, who wouldn’t mind a move. Hm.

Cabaye WILL go I can feel it in my water. And I wouldn’t be surprised if the sickening blow of a late great bid for Benny comes in. This is Newcastle, after all.

Brace Brace Brace! We’re going in! :)

  • 80 SeanNufc87 // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:30 AM

I don’t see it as selfishness, I see it as a day out with my mates to cheer the lads in black and white on, have a sing about Ashley or kinnear while we’re at it.

The people who think Ashley “wins” if I or others go to the game are misguided in my view, I think he wins when people start turning away, and then its the team that lose. If the difference in a game is the 12th man then ill be part of it.

    How can that be selfish?

  • 81 Lilongwe Geordie // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:30 AM

I agree on that – I think (if I understood properly). I don’t particularly like Ashley, but a lot of people on here give him abuse for things which aren’t really fair. He has made so many howlers that I fail to understand why there is a need to create or embellish other things to use as a stick to bash him.

However, if he fails to bring in the required players AND we lose Cabaye (I don’t see this happening) then he has 100% failed this summer.

I saw couple of chances for Cisse but he didn’t seem to be interested making extra effort for it. Even the commentator said other would try harder to get it when Gouffran put him through, he didn’t try to get the ball before the gk or tried to pu the gk off, but he stopped his run trying to avoid contact.

  • 83 Pokat // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:33 AM

I say let the young lads drive themselves into the team. Lets not forget its up to them to prove they are PL quality. And they aren’t. We need good ol fashioned signings.

  • 84 Pokat // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:35 AM

Cisse got service for the first time in ages saturday. Seemed overwhelmed by it, but could have scored a few. If he keeps getting that, it will all come flooding back.

  • 85 JackButler // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:36 AM

How much support does Cisse get?

The lad is feeding off scraps and is so isolated it’s sickening to see, if our manager had an ounce of intelligence he’d know how to set the side up to get the best out of the lad instead he’s had his confidence shattered and is now a shell of player he was when he came here, just like most of the squad

  • 86 Santon03 // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:36 AM

Also try compare with Shola, even Shola will go for it.

  • 87 Lilongwe Geordie // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:37 AM

If Real Madrid bid for Suarez, as is rumoured today in several papers, then I’d say we can expect them to come calling for HBA as a replacement.

    Toon Army,
I’ve given up bothering with the ones that say things like that. No matter what they have/haven’t done in their job, there is just no need for some of the bile and abuse that comes out on here. They are best ignored.

As for your thoughts about the kids, Fergie is already at Birmingham for the season. Sammi will get game time, and I’d imagine prove he isn’t capable at this level yet/ever. My biggest worry is that Campbell spends another year playing that awful development league stuff, with very limited first team chances which will seriously stunt his development.

I’d get him out on loan regardless of bringing people in. If we get desperate for a body on the bench give some experience to Gillihead or Armstrong. They don’t have to come on, but will be good for them being involved.

Stoke have signed arnautovic, decent signing.

  • 90 Santon03 // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:41 AM

If you know your team can’t give the kind of service that Cisse need, would you still play Cisse (poacher type) or play different type of player?

This is the point I ttry to make, Cisse rarely get the service but he is not going for it when he does, he is also waiting for the service that never come instead trying to get the ball and make his own chances.

  • 91 Lilongwe Geordie // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:42 AM

Yes, I remember the chance you are talking about. I agree, Cisse could have made a bigger effort in getting a toe on the ball. Again, I put that down to a lack of confidence at the minute. This is the entire reason I was adamant he should have started at Morecambe. If he had grabbed a couple in that game we would have seen a very different player on Saturday.

Shola would have tried, but that lad never lacks confidence. If he did, he would have probably quit and spend his entire time crying in the corner of his bedroom thanks to some of the unnecessary abuse he has received over the years.

Cisse has scored goals consistently for the 5 years prior to joining us. That doesn’t just disappear.

  • 92 Lilongwe Geordie // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:45 AM

If we had a striker better suited and capable of playing week in week out at this level then I would leave him out, unfortunately Shola can’t do 90 minutes every week for us anymore, so it would require a signing. We missed out on Matri, who I feel would have been ideal as a foil for Remy and HBA. Realistically, we are not getting anyone, so Pardew needs to adjust to get Cisse service.

  • 93 JackButler // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:47 AM

We have no other options, Shola is well past it, Campbell is unproven at this level and Gouffran is no striker.

We have the players to play the way that Cisse would score for fun but Pardew insists on playing 4-4-2 which simply does not work for us.

How many time’s did you see any of our midfielders busting a gut to get into the box and offer support on Saturday???

We did it for the last 15 minutes and we looked a completely different side proof that Pardew’s defensive minded approach is killing any attacking threat we have.

As his for ‘Not going for it’ as I said his confidence has been shattered by Pardew and the lad is really struggling but if we revert to 4-3-3 with HBA and Remy either side of him he’s find his form and confidence once again

  • 94 SeanNufc87 // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:48 AM

Well if the ayew deal is all sorted on the off chance that cabs goes and he doesn’t come in regardless then obviously we weren’t after anyone in the first place surely?

Good to hear you’re up & about after your Malaria problem young man.Has the 3 points put a spring in your step?lol
The final 15/20 minutes against Fulham shows me that we have the capabilities. It may be a little progress but it’s progress over a few games now so that’s giving me a little encouragement & to the players I should imagine.Confidence as you know goes a long way in this game,Cisse needs a goal to give him a pick up & that’ll come if he get any chances. Will we get anyone in, I’m not very hopeful ?

  • 96 Lilongwe Geordie // Sep 2, 2013 at 7:57 AM

If Martinez gets McCarthy, which is looking increasingly likely, then he will have half of his relegated Wigan team there. If I were a blue nose bindipper I’d be getting a wee bit worried!

  • 97 Lilongwe Geordie // Sep 2, 2013 at 8:03 AM

    Nut meg,
Thanks, yeah pretty much fully recovered, well enough to be back at work anyway, but think I will be stuck in the office and no site visits this week due to it sadly.

Yes, steady progress in each league game this season. We keep that up and I will be happy. That is all I asked of Pardew after his signings last season, and he failed to deliver, but if he can do it now then he still has the chance to win me back – long way to go mind.

Will we get anyone? I doubt it, maybe if Cabaye goes, but I think he is more likely to stay now. Bad news for Campbell in my eyes if we don’t get a striker, and bad news all round if we don’t get some pace and creativity.

Still, as long as Faye Downey is worth her salt then a fully fit first team is a good side and can dispel the doom and gloom. A couple of injuries on the other hand leaves us hamstrung.

Sometimes I feel sorry for Pardew and then I think the spineless spiv is in on the lies and deceit telling us Kinnery has his targets in front of him and is working on them, where as is blatantly obvious nobody is coming in unless somebody is sold, Pardew said Cabaye is going nowhere if a very late bid comes in, we’ll see.

Pardew actually said you never know with this club.

  • 101 Felipe // Sep 2, 2013 at 8:10 AM

I think you’re wrong JB, it’s not the system and it’s not Pardew’s fault. I think we lacked confidence after the City game and we looked nervous against West Ham and in the first half against Fulham. The second half showed what we are capable of and what we will see more of going forward.
Obviously a lot depends on what happens between now and 11pm but if nobody goes and nobody comes in we are still looking very strong, much stronger than last season and stronger even than when we finished 5th I reckon.
We have a fit and healthy Ben Arfa and a happy and back to his best Colo. Santon and Anita are looking better and better and Sissoko and Mbiwa are starting to look the part. Add Remy into the mix going forward and while I think we might not be able to push the top 6 just yet there is absolutely nobody outside them that we should fear. HWTL

HBA will rightly collect all the plaudits for a great goal but Santon deserves much praise for a very solid match both defensively and in attack as well. Stats don’t explain everything but, he won all three tackles, 75% of his ground duels (6/8), won 67% of his aerial duels (6/9), and also intercepted the ball on five occasions, the most from any Newcastle player. Noticeably the majority of his defensive work was done further up the pitch. Last season he rarely marked as closely as he did on Saturday.

A feature was Fulham defender Reither tracking Marveaux who was constantly coming inside and this provided space for Santon to go into. This gave us much needed width although it became too congested in the middle at times with Ben Arfa cutting in from the opposite flank . Debuchy also took advantage of the extra space relinquished by Ben Arfa. As the game progressed this meant Santon gained possession on the left flank with no opposition at times, he was able to cross more often – 7 crosses from open play, only second to Ben Arfa.

Lilongwe is right though that Santon still has to work on his accuracy in delivery but the signs are promising for the young Santon.

  • 117 sparky55 // Sep 2, 2013 at 8:38 AM

It wasn’t so much the result on saturday…it was the way we played at the end of the game…it was just like the old days when we finished 5th…we could have scored 5 in the last 15 minutes because we were swarming them…Fulham were put on the back foot and they dropped deeper and deeper and deeper.

That’s what asserting pressure does to a team and it’s usually us that’s drops deeper.

We asserted, we were in complete control of that game and at home that’s exactly what we should be doing no matter who comes to SJP… and playing that way we’ll win more than we’ll lose as opposed to playing for a 1-0 with a defensive set up and mindset that invites pressure onto us so we ship a goal and then have to chase a game.

As the old saying goes…the opposition can’t score if the haven’t got the ball

sustained pressure like saturday is the way forward

  • 118 james589 // Sep 2, 2013 at 8:40 AM

To all the people using our lack of signings to have a pop at Pardew, I will say this:

I do not profess to be Pardew’s biggest fan. He has a squad absolutely packed with potential which he fails to make the most of time and again BUT this situation is out of his control. He said post-Fulham match that he would be disappointed if no one got brought it before the window closes. I can tell by the emotion in his face in recent weeks that he is just as frustrated as everyone else with the situation. You think he’ll have the final say on Cabaye should a bit come in at the eleventh hour? Not on your nelly.

If we manage to keep hold of our key players, that will be something, but no one is buying into Kinnear’s propaganda that they sat down and decided that the squad was already strong enough. Last season proved an alarming lack of strength in depth. Injuries to key players, i.e. Krul, Coloccini, Cabaye, Ben Arfa and the failure to replace Ba when he departed in January showed that we do not have enough quality throughout the squad to remain competitive. I lost count of the amount of times Pardew said something like: “I put the best squad out that I had available to me, but it wasn’t good enough.” I will not put up with another season of that.

The squad should have been strengthened, no questions asked. Last season’s skirmish with the relegation zone should have been the warning sign Ashley needed to respond. All very well limiting his investment so he can sell the club at a profit but what is he doing to protect his investment? How much does he think the club will be worth if the worst does happen and we go one worse than last year?

One striker in on loan is not enough. One striker who, if he does well, will be snapped up by one of the more ambitious clubs, and if he does badly, will not help us at all. One striker who, let’s not forget, could potentially be behind bars in a few months’ time. This window has shown a complete failure by Kinnear to get the job he was hired to do done, and he needs to be gotten rid of. He is incapable and not fit for purpose. No, I don’t believe Llambias would have done much better but you’d have expected his replacement to have done something rather than nothing.

Unless Kinnear’s hands are also genuinely tied then I can’t see any benefit in keeping him around after the window closes. He has embarrassed the club in the interviews he has given and he has let the club down with the lack of signings which were his key objective. In my line of work, if you fail to deliver on your key objective, your job is in jeapordy. If nothing else happens today, the most positive thing we can do is get rid of him.

I went into this window like many with a bit of optimism. We didn’t ask for much really. A couple of strikers, a winger and a decent back up CB. Compared to the amount of players some clubs have bought, that is a very small ask. We have one striker signed on a temporary basis. As the window has progressed, I have become more and more frustrated with our continuous penny pinching and failure to get players “over the line”. Bent and Gomis were two deals that could have happened if we’d have been willing to have been at least slightly flexible. We lost out on both fronts. Eriksen was available from Ajax for €8m and we did nothing. Alderwield or Sakho would have been a great CB signing and again, we have done nothing.

I know little of how football transfers work but I find it hard to believe that I could have done a worse job than Kinnear has this window. I have zero confidence that anyone else will be signed today and I cannot understand why he is employed by our club, other than, it would seem, to exert unnecessary pressure on Pardew and to make his position untenable as part of Ashley’s ‘masterplan’ to force him out. What a plan that will turn out to be I’m sure.

I will continue to support the team no matter what, but I will not lend my support to this ridiculous regime who seem to believe that the path to success is through spending nothing and selling our top players for big profits whilst failing to replace them. 18 months later we are still waiting for our permanent Carroll replacement! This season clubs have had the most money available to them ever in terms of TV money and yet we’ve probably spent the least we have in goodness knows how long. THAT is what is not sustainable, Mr Ashley- being outspent and consequently outgunned by almost every other team in the league and expecting us to cope because we finished 5th 2 years ago.

  • 122 Santon03 // Sep 2, 2013 at 8:47 AM

I don’t think we were changing to 4-3-3 at that time, we have Gouff, Remy, Cisse, HBA at front as well as Cabaye, Debuchy, Santon bombing forward.
Among those players the most inactive was Cisse and how can the team give him good services when he often didn’t make off the ball runs. He just sat there waiting for the ball to be perfectly delivered on his feet which annoyed me the most. He wanted to play in the middle but Fulham was at defensive mode, it was over crowded it was 3 or 4 players against 1 which is impossible to make perfect passes all the time.
You are right he is lacking of confidence like I said @71 it’s down to the manager, when you know you have a poacher especially when he is not in the mood, you will need to sub him. He can’t poach a goal when there is nothing to poach, not getting services will not add confidence. Not every game is suitable for poachers. Playing him all the time with no service will not raise his confidence, but bench him and the team start putting good performance he will have mood to play, sometimes a player confidence can be lifted without playing if the team is playing well.
