French club Marseilles have said that their Ghanaian International forward Andre Ayew, will be staying at the club and that Marseilles have seen off interest from both Newcastle and Liverpool.
Andre Ayew -staying at Marseilles
Both Liverpool and Newcastle had made contact with Ayew’s agents on a possible deal, and while Liverpool had other targets which they have since signed, Newcatsle have still to make their first permanent signing of the summer, and there’s just over four hours left in this window.
What have we been doing for the last three months?
Ayew had admitted earlier in the summer that he would be interested in a move away from Marseilles, especially if a bid came in from Liveprool (what?).
This is the statement Marseilles have just issued:
“Despite several enquiries from European clubs in recent weeks, OM are pleased to announce that Andre Ayew will continue his adventure at his first club”
So here is another player to tick off the list of those who are not coming to Newcastle, and he joins Bafe Gomis, out top target, who is already on that list.
So maybe our best bet now of a signing in the next four hours is Tom Ince of Blackpool.
But why it has come down to the last four hours of the transfer window, and we still haven’t signed the striker we so desperately need, is not good – and we’ll leave it at that.
There’s still a little time for Joe Kinnear to get his job done.
