This Is The Player Newcastle Will Sign In Early January

9:59 am, Tuesday, September 3rd, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 121 Comments

This situation we have today is very similar to when the transfer window ended two years ago,  when we failed to get in a  striker to replace Andy Carroll, and there was all hell to pay, even though we made some good signings that summer, including Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba, Sylvain Marveaux and Davide Santon, and all for around £10M.

bafetimbi gomis - pink

Bafe Gomis – could join Newcastle in January

On the very last day of that transfer window, Newcastle failed in their bid to bring in striker Mevlut Erdinc, who was at PSG at the time, and we then tried to bring in Costa Rican International Bryan Ruiz from FC Twente, but he was too far along the road and signed for Fulham instead for around £4M.

But there were definite signs of some panic going on two years ago on that last day of the window, but there was none of that yesterday – just complete and utter silence.

After fans made it clear two years ago that they were very unhappy that some of the £35M had not been spent to replace Andy Carroll, it seems that Derek LLambias tried to get a striker lined up for the January transfer window, and once one of our targets – Papiss Cisse – became available, Newcastle moved in and paid out £9M for the SC Freiburg striker.

We think what may happen now is that Newcastle will go back in and talk to Lyon,  and try to arrange a deal to bring Bafe Gomis to Newcastle in January, and he will be cheaper than he was in the summer, because he will have only six months left on his contract.

Lyon will be keen to sell because they’ll get something for their striker in January, but nothing next summer.

That seems a good possibility – but we needed Bafe in now, and why exactly that deal could not be completed we have no idea, but we’d love to find out the real details.

But that’s unlikely to happen, because it will probably show the complete ineptitude of Joe Kinnear and his team.

Comments welcome.

    No we won’t.

  • 2 Edd Case // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:02 AM

I can’t see us signing him in Jan.
Can’t see us signing anyone in Jan.

I think, as I’ve already said, MA is selling up. He’ll not buy in anyone else (unless we offload a purple) because it’ll make the club look less appealing financially.

Everything is in place for the club to be sold.

    Watch this space.

  • 3 Markaccus // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:02 AM

Yeah because im sure he will want to come here when we are hovering around the drop.

  • 4 Lilongwe Geordie // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:02 AM

Lads, forget about Fridman, Colin is saying that it is happening…… Apparently Pards, Carr, Kinnear and Charnley have been summoned to France today to Ashley’s yacht.

Oh well, onto the next rich suitor!

On topic, seriously???? This lad will join Marseille in Jan or on pre contract next summer. I don’t think I can put up with speculation this soon after the window closing!!

  • 5 Thump // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:03 AM

    @Lilongwe: From last article:

What’s the muppet been saying? He blocked me ages ago :(

  • 6 Rooster // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:04 AM

ED, that window was pure deception we have been led like pigs to the slaughter, false pretensses, yea we prob will sign a few in January and Gomis may be one of them, its MA`s money but being deceived is not very appealing, they have been laughing in our faces.

BTW if you look at Sunderlands upcoming fixtures they will be in trouble before Christmas, and will need a strong recover afterwards to stay in the PL. Going to be a long year to be a mackem….

    JFA –

Wow you really see the negative in EVERYTHING don’t you?

I was not patronizing you, but if you feel that way so be it

I think it would be fair to say why answer reply to any of my posts if you have nothing of value to say!?

You could really pick a fight in an empty room.

As for 9th, that is my opinion. I feel we have a stronger squad than any of those on that list, with perhaps the exception of Everton, maybe Swansea who will struggle due to EL.

I do feel any success for Villa and West Ham will heavily rely on Benteke and Carroll.

Benteke is a monster, and will help Villa move up the table, without him they are comfortably mid table.

Carroll is massive for West Ham. Sam has built a team for him, if he is injured you can see West Ham miss out on a handful of points due to it.

I feel we can finish anywhere between 8th and 11th in all honesty. I do not think we will be in relegation.

    Last season I predicted 12th – 14th, despite a 5th finish the season before when I predicted 8th or 9th.

I am not blind by hatred enough to say “WE ARE AWFUL” we lack abit of confidence, could do with a better manager. But our squad is the strongest it has been since Bobby Robsons.

We just need to use it to its strengths, as stated my only worry is Pardew and his lack of tactical brain. Simply put he is inept and getting on my nerves. Hopefully we can start playing 4-3-3 and see likes of Jonas dropped when better players are available.

  • 17 BandB // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:09 AM

It would be a shame if your post was neglected, because I think you have it pretty close to how we operate.
People have been wondering why more of the “dead wood” wasn’t culled.
Well, we aren’t going to get relegated before January, Ashley will figure, and they provide us with some cover against injuries (in numbers terms anyway) until then.
If we are in the clarts come December, we can try to offload two or three, and chip in for another £40,000 a week salary.
I still think we will try do it without any capital expenditure.

  • 18 toonarmydownsouth // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:09 AM

    What’s changed your mind?
It was 8th yesterday wasn’t it?

  • 19 Thump // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:09 AM

Good to see Jonas’ injury isn’t too bad, then…

Can anybody explain what this means? “The vehicle was taken away and the driver was reported for summons to court for driving otherwise than in accordance with a driving licence.”

I can’t figure out if they’re saying he was pissed or didn’t have his license on him.

I might get slaughter for this.

I’ve been supporting NUFC since 92 and Milan since 88.
Milan is in the same situation with NUFC now probably worse, but not as much negativity among the fans compared to NUFC.
They can’t even pay Honda’s fee, they even sold Boateng.

Not 100% sure of the french league rules but in england you can only sign a player on a pre contract from a team in the same league 1 month before not 6 months…so might give us the edge? (unless its just a prem league rule and not a uefa one)

  • 26 Transfer Sage // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:14 AM

not sure exactly with milan but from what i hear i think they are struggling for cash?

newcastle just got a huge new tv deal, as all prem clubs, as well as having a big income from tickets compared to most prem clubs…..we are in a different situation to milan, we aren’t short of cash

A dream from last night (it was a news report – weird I know)

Last night there was a devastating tsunami in Indonesia

In other news billionaire businessman Mike Ashley was missing presumed drowned while holidaying aboard his yacht off st tropez.

    #doneamaxwell I thought.

Back to reality summoned to the yacht to celebrate a job well done another nail in nufcs coffin. Or hopefully news of tbe sale.

    Feeling a little maudlin

    @jeff: Mickey Quinn? I haven’t a clue what you’re on about.

  • 30 pawl250 // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:16 AM

I believe Everton did well in the last day of the window. Enough to possibly challenge top 6 providing players integrate well.

I feel Baines was the more important out of Fellaini and Baines and they managed to keep him.

Lukaku, Barry, Mcarthy has strengthened the team considerably. I am not saying they are AMAZING players, but good enough to push Everton above us and Villa.

I have also put Sunderland in the drop, West Brom added Sess and Sunderland lost him. I feel that could be the difference between the two sides.

Sunderland have a long road to recovery after xmas if you look above at the fixture list I have added. Remainder of 2013 will be arguably the hardest of all clubs, I mean look at their home games.

    Man Utd
    Man City

That is from now to 31st Dec! Norwich being the only stand out, we should get 3 points from that game scenario.

  • 31 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:16 AM

I’m with you – I was quite happy with the transfer window as we did not loose anyone at the 11th hour – so we could not get in a replacement.

And I seen enough in the last twenty minutes IF Pardew plays the attacking formation we finished with we will more games than we will use.

    finishing pos: 8, 9, 10 or 11th

And we still have spondooolies to spend in January when prices are not inflated as of last night.

    My first team

    Ben Arfa

    Taylor Steven
    Ameobi Shola

    Ameobi Sammy

  • 34 Lilongwe Geordie // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:18 AM

Just that Fridman is in negotiations to buy the club, currently doing due diligence which is why we didn’t buy or sell. Also that the 3 amigos and Carr are off to meet with Ashley on his yacht about it!

Funny how just yesterday his sauces, Heinz and Daddies, were both saying we were still looking at tying up deals…… moron.

  • 35 Beattie25 // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:18 AM

    What a ridiculous comparison.

  • 37 Jonny // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:20 AM

    We should have got Anelka

  • 38 Mondini // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:20 AM

We need to be challenging for European spot by December before we think about January signings. The Gomis deal favours us in the sense that his contract is running out and likelihood is we get him on the cheap like we did with Sissoko or we get him free come summer 2014, but only European competition likely to guarantee a player like him.

Similar to situation with Tom Ince.

  • 39 WWSBRD // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:21 AM

  • 44 Lilongwe Geordie // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:23 AM

You would leave Anita out?? He has been one of our better players in the last 2 games. He offers so much more as a deep lying midfielder than anyone else at the club. Intelligence and ability to cover. He tackles, he can get the ball off the defence and start us on our way forward. He must be one of the first names on the team sheet when it comes to Villa.

Same defence as you have. Then Cabaye, Sissoko and Anita in the middle. Remy and Ben Arfa just off Cisse up top.

  • 45 theartfuldodger // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:25 AM

So now we are bored with rumours about players cause that never happened. Now onto ownership rumours.
I hope for gods sake its true though.

Gomis does not want to come – Not in Jan either.

Also, Kinnear knew all along what was up. He could have played things down by saying we will try to get 1 or 2. But he spoke big. Like a big idiot.

  • 46 Santon03 // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:25 AM

I know, after all these years having superstars and winning CL, Milan has to sell almost all their superstars and didn’t even have the money to pay Honda and have to wait until January for free transfer.

Milan was one of the giants and won many trophies, no offense NUFC hasn’t won anything for more than 60 years. NUFC still can keep their best players this summer, look at Milan for the past 2 years have to sell almost everyone to survive.
Maybe not so great with little transfer activities, but really… compare to Milan? it’s like you used to have Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc. now we have to content with a cheap Toyota.

  • 47 Lilongwe Geordie // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:25 AM

Ha, he would have to buy him some Lace ups first! Kinnear only buys velcro.

  • 48 bishopblaize // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:26 AM

    Taking Positives outta Negatives:

From a Business point of view MA been and sought deal for Wales Shirts for Sports Direct (its a bale thing).
As for the Toon, MA has spoken with our replacement manager (if) Pardew F’s up AND basically our Team DOEST need strengthening ONLY managed correctly. AP is aware so expect to see plenty of what we seen during Fulham game (plenty of changes with formations) was a whirlwind that shook up opponents and left them on the spin. The last 15min of game was not tactical just coincidence!
WHY Shola still here? Well Mr Ashley is to Sponsor Ameobi to a Win at TAKESHI’s CASTLE that will gain him Shirt Sales in Asia.
    We’ll be reet!

  • 53 pawl250 // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:31 AM

I feel Remy will still not be fit enough for Villa, for me it should be

    ——————— Krul
    Debuchy – Mbiwa – Coloccini – Santon
    ——- Cabaye — Anita – Sissoko
Ben Arfa ——– Cisse ———- Gouffran

Remy to come on 60-65 minutes. With the intention of starting the following game. WE CANNOT RUSH HIM BACK AND GET HIM INJURED.

    Pardew will play –

    ———————- Krul
    Debuchy – STaylor – Coloccini – Santon
    ————- Cabaye – Tiote
Ben Arfa —— Sissoko ———- Jonas
    ——————– Cisse

Leaving out the better/more on form players. He could even go 4-4-2 same defence but

Ben Arfa – Cabaye – Sissoko – Jonas
    ————— Shola – Cisse

Stubborn in his ways, he will feel the Fulham win came from his tactics!

    Stop talking absolute b0ll0cks.

Milan sign Mario Balotelli for £17 million 8 months ago.

This Summer you have spent £24.5 million (total outlay of 11 million) and havesometing like 30 first team players.

Just because they can’t ‘compete’ financially with Real Madrid, PSG and/or Man City doesn’t mean that they are in a similar situation to NUFC.

There is no comparison and Milan (as you are clearly alluding to) are not in a worse position.

Everyone slating Ed for this article, its his blog.

Its not official news, its his opinion. I came to realize this myself when questioning the odd article.

YET, he has a point. Likelyhood is we will sign Gomis in January. Hes on the cheap, we will pay him more than Marseille given he will have less tax to pay here, than France.

It is why all players want to play in PL. Only Monaco is the exception to that rule.

Gomis is a likely candidate. We have done it before with Debuchy, Cisse.

Likelyhood is we will do it again. I really hope Remy turns out to be a decent loan and we get him on permanent at the same time, similar to Ben Arfa.

Gourcuff is also in his last 6 months at that time.

Long would also be a candidate for leaving WBA in Jan.

These are the candidates we aim to get. Gouffran, Sissoko are examples of that.

Given how much we put into the Gomis transfer, I find it unlikely we will not pursue the same player for less money in 4 month time, its a no brainer.

Hoping we can make it to Jan with no injuries. Our fixture list looks less crammed than last year with constant mid week games.

We should see an improvement from last year in that alone.

  • 63 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:39 AM

That is my biggest problem finding a position for Anita as he has been our best player this season.

I booed Pardew’s decision to bring him off as I thought he was playing well – would of took of Marvo for Cabaye.
Maybe away games play Anita and Cabaye and sacrifice one of the front three Cisse, Goufron or Remy

  • 64 thai-mag // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:40 AM

We have Remy as our only on loan signing who may be banged up shortly, then there’s a question mark over Cabaye who may or may not put in half hearted performances like he did last season’ I think it’s going to be a long time till January, then of course we will still have the problem even then of Joke Kinnear try to get players in, I see nothing but problems ahead

  • 69 Lilongwe Geordie // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:45 AM

Yeah I know, Good ol’ Colin is claiming t know more than just that though. Clown.

The answer lies in not restricting yourself to 2 centre mids. We have 3 there who can all play fluent passing football. Can all tackle, and are all capable of shooting. The difference to Anita is his intelligence when he doesn’t have the ball.

Watch the match from Saturday again, watch Anita carefully and you will regularly see him covering at left back when Santon pushed on, right back when Debuchy pushed on. He even dropped into centre back when Colo was made a little run forward.

If we are playing with such attacking full backs, and relying on them to give us the width that we haven’t had yet this season in midfield(other than Sammi’s cameo), then he must play. Either that, or teams will get in behind our fullbacks continually like last year.

Is it just possible on the law of averages that out of the many he’s got badly wrong this could be the exception?
    No you’re right !!!

  • 74 pawl250 // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:48 AM

In a 4-3-3 We could play Anita, Sissoko and Cabaye.

No sacrificing needed. I agree with you about Anita, certainly looks to have caught up with the pace of the PL.

It shows we have a better squad when our fans do not pick STaylor, Tiote, Jonas due to the bigger/better squad at our disposal.

Unfortunately Pardew has his favorites and is the only reason we will do badly this season.

Giving him the benefit of the doubt until Jan, but this is certainly last chance saloon for me, and personally I think MA feels the same way.

We will see. He needs to get top 10 this season. We have the squad and quality to do it. Yes we had injuries/EL last year but the tactics are clearly shoddy and his decision making is sometimes bemusing!

I mean leaving Shola on for Cisse against West Ham. Shola will need several chances, Cisse needs 1 moment he can turn the game. He is worthy to keep on the pitch for that alone.

    Just could not understand it!

  • 75 Mondini // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:49 AM

    @ pawl250

I think the team against Villa has to be:

    Debucy Colo Mbiwa Santon

    Cabaye and Anita

    Ben Arfa, Sissoko, Remy

Why Remy from start? Has a good record already against Villa. With 2 weeks international break, he should be fresh from good training. Perhaps 65 mins and then replace with Cisse

Why Ameobi? Need physical presence and hold up which he posseses more than Cisse.

Remember, we have Benteke, Agbonlahor and their new striker to keep at bay. Ameobi can pick up Benteke at set pieces.

  • 76 mindshaft // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:50 AM

Gomis transfer won’t happen in January
Aulis already said that a fee had been agreed with Newcastle, the issue was that Gomis wage demands were too high and his agent wanted a couple of million – not sure how this will change in Jan

  • 77 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:51 AM

what would your starting 11 be for the Villa Pop game

  • 78 count // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:51 AM

He is making up news stories and getting paid for it.

How is that in any way defensible ?

Why the fu<k would anyone defend it?

I for one will not be allowing ed to leach away at my energy any longer.

    Simple concept.

  • 79 Transfer Sage // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:51 AM

but ameobi doesn’t hold the ball up well…he loses it with a bad touch, can’t direct his headers down and constantly fouls the opposition

  • 80 croftus5678 // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:52 AM

i believe we was never after any players in reality ! they just wanted it to look like we was after players for the fans !

otherwise why turn a free transfer down with a hell of a lot more quality about him than we already have in saylor/williamson ?

then theres the gomis saga ! did we really put a bid in that was unaceptable or was it we made a deal with there headcase owner to put a statement to gomis that we value him highly and want you to stay we just need you to drop your wages a little !

all an act imo maybe he wants transfer money to buy transfers and cos we didnt sell cabaye there are no funds ! and use all other incoming money (tv/sponsor ect ect) for his own pocket.

i wonder if kinear will get the sack now and the club blame it all on him or wether they will send pards in the fireing line so the fans go against him more when he comes out with we have a good team and we have great players and cover in depth ect like he has too to try get our players motivated.

  • 81 jayphoto // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:52 AM

No chance on Gomis! Talk in france for a long while is that he was tapped up by Marseille weeks ago! Aulas even considered reporting them for it! They’ve told Gomis they’ll sign him next summer for massive money as no transfer fee would be due!

  • 82 Transfer Sage // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:55 AM

Yeh it has become a bit more sensationalist than when i first joined up…stories gone from newcastle may sign x,y,z or will newcastle sign a player to newcastle will sign x, y and z or this deal is close etc etc.

But at the end of the day you get all the collection of newcastle stories on here from different papers re-written by Ed, also get a chance to comment and discuss things with other fans and on top of that it is a free service for us…we don’t need to pay.

If Ed wants to make headlines a bit more sensationalist to get more hits therefore advertising revenue for working 365 days a year to give us a forum to discuss things then I for one won’t begrudge him that.

  • 83 noir9 // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:55 AM

Suspect someone’s been trying to show the gaffer what a shrewd operator he is, “look at me boss I’ve stuck it to Lyon & we’ll save a few mil by signing Gomis in Jan, I really am the muts nuts”.

  • 84 Indian Magpie // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:55 AM

    I would Personally choose

    Taylor Colo Willo Mbiwa
    Bigi Sissoko Tiote Anita

  • 85 Lilongwe Geordie // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:56 AM

Villa Pop?? I assume you mean just the Villa game?

    Debuchy Colo MYM Santon
    Anita Sissoko Cabaye
    Ben Arfa Remy

  • 86 pawl250 // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:56 AM

Shola makring Benteke, please no. I would personally choose Sissoko, or Mbiwa.

They are no push overs, and 8 times out of 10 Shola loses his man during opposition corners.

Hoping Remy is fit in all honesty. But Cisse has to start, if we create more chances he will score. Rooney could have been in our team recently and not scored, he has had snippets of half chances nothing really clear cut.

He is a finisher, bottom line.

    ———————- Krul
    Debuchy – Mbiwa – Coloccini – Santon
    ——- Cabaye – Sissoko – Anita
Ben Arfa ——– Cisse ———— Remy

If we have a fully fit squad, this should be our team week in week out.

Its strong, hardworking, creative, quick. It has everything a PL team desires, only issue for me is Pardew will not play the style we would need to play to suit the system.

He will play long balls, and ultimately it bypasses Anita, Sissoko, Cabaye, Remy and Ben Arfa our creative players.

He needs to find the balance of when to play the long ball and when to not.

  • 87 jayphoto // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:56 AM

no nothing about Fridman, or business and billionaires in general, but articles about him suggest he’s big on taking small failing companies and making them global giants…
Suprised Alexei Mordashov has never been interested, apparantly he was quite a toon fan when he studied in newcastle

  • 88 wynsleap // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:57 AM

IF – and it’s a bloody great IF – Ashley was selling the club, the FA or local press should be enquiring politely as to why Joe Kinnear was given a contract to do a job which he wasn’t capable of doing (and in essence didn’t do) just before a sale. Corrupt? You decide.

  • 89 sexyirishtoon // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:58 AM

Lads I’m vegetarian but there’s one pig I want to fry and that is a fat cockney b*st*rd of a pig. I’m sick of being made a fool of. I’m sure he gets one of his numpties to read him the highlights of this blog and comments from Lee Ryder, Micky Quinn and and he lauds it up. The prick gets by on pure hatred for us. Never have I seen a club owner with such a blatant disregard for it’s own fans. There has to be protests, boycotts, sit-ins, whatever it takes. Personally I think next home game, we fill the stadium. Support the team start to finish and stay after the final whistle and sing our Ashley out songs. Do it for as long as possible and the videos will make all the news programmes.

  • 90 mindshaft // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:58 AM

The squad isn’t as bad as some people are making out and bar a spate of injuries should survive relegation dogfight until Jan at least, however I imagine Cabaye and poss a couple of others ( HBA, Sissoko etc) will be wanting to move come January – lack of signings not only infuriates the fans but shows the players that the club has little ambition to move forward and doesn’t create competition for places, this in turn affects player mentality who is more concerned about not getting injured than putting in a shift

How we’ll cope after Jan is anyone guess

  • 91 Transfer Sage // Sep 3, 2013 at 10:59 AM

    i’d go for

  • 93 t00ntime // Sep 3, 2013 at 11:00 AM

We wont sign him because marseille will agree a deal with the player to get him for free. Since it was reported that Marseille is his perferred destination.

Yes proud is nowhere to be seen lol!

Don’t know why these people put themselves out there to get shot down time and again.

  • 95 jayphoto // Sep 3, 2013 at 11:02 AM

dunno why people are worrying about dealing with Benteke in the air! Villa’s new signing Kozak is much stronger aerially, he’s on Andy Carrolls level when it comes to aerial challenges!
be more worried about Benteke laching onto flick ons etc…
That said, we’ve got a decent record against Villa, I remember them really struggling whenever they’ve played against Ben Arfa and Cisse seems to notch frequently against them too! That said, it’s worrying that we’ll have Taylor, Jonas and Tiote back in the side for the Villa game…. not sure that strengthens us!
Saying that, we’ll also have Cabaye back, hopefully playing like a man possessed! Like him or hate him, when he’s on form he’s probably our most effective player (over Ben Arfa who even when on form makes woeful decisions sometimes, seperates him from being world class IMO)

I will be very disappointed if Cabaye waltz straight back in.

  • 98 Spreadthetoon // Sep 3, 2013 at 11:05 AM

I think its very important to register as many points as possible in the early part of the season to gtee safety.

A lot of clubs have bought a lot of players. They will need time to bed down and adjust. I guess you could look at it from the perspective that we did our summer business last January. Let’s get on with it. We have a squad of plyrs who now know the premiership, should be settled and things may turn out alright.
I mean look at spuds and scum….they’ve got lots of players but they appear disjointed and will take them some weeks to find their groove. So its in our interests to remain united, hold strong and get behind the players. Besides which we still have a good squad of players, with good footballing ability, so let’s look for the positives in what has been a truly disappointing window, but true to form under the MA regime!

@ Indian – reckon it’s no coincidence we played our best stuff against Fulham when Cabaye was on the field though! For 3 games and 1 half before that we offered nothing! when cabaye plays well, the whole team plays well!

  • 104 mindshaft // Sep 3, 2013 at 11:08 AM

Bizarre that some people are thinking the reason we didn’t buy anyone is because some Russian billionaire is going to buy us – especially as its based on an email from some blokes mate of a mate who’s heard a rumour from a friend of a friend
    Talk about wishful thinking!

  • 105 Rotonda heights // Sep 3, 2013 at 11:09 AM

You just know that Saylor Jonas and Tiote will all come in for Anita, M’Biwa and Marv and all the momentum built form tha tlast 15 mins v Fulham will disappear back into the ether as pardew never seems to learn or be strong enough to drop his out of form favourites and keep with a winning formula.

  • 106 The_Toon // Sep 3, 2013 at 11:09 AM

Honestly I’m glad Cabaye, Colo and Ben Arfa are still Newcastle players. Coming to think about it now, we have an excellent squad for a 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 formation with cover in every position.

    LB = Santon and Haidara,
    RB= Debuchy and Dummet
CB=Colo, Mbiwa, Taylor, curtis and williamson
CM= Cabaye, Sissoko, Anita, Tioti, Bigi, gosling
LW/RW/AM = Ben Arfa, Goufran, Marv, Vuckic, obertan, Sammy
CF and SS= Cisse, Remy, Shola, Adam

    my team=
    Debuchy Mbiwa Colo Santon
    Hatem Sissoko Cabaye Remy
    Cisse Goufran

Goufran and remy could switch position

  • 108 banjax // Sep 3, 2013 at 11:11 AM

Jam tomorrow Ed. How many points will the Toon have lost 17 games into the season. The point is we need the players NOW. Saving a buck in January 2014 does not help when we are relegated because it will take any new players time to ‘bed in and adjust’ before they can help the team. When will everybody realise this ! Newcastle will struggle to stay in the Premier League now and it will be our skinflint owner and his gutless ‘yes men’ who be to blame !

  • 109 Rotonda heights // Sep 3, 2013 at 11:11 AM

I reckon it’s no coincidence the club got tough on Cabaye’s reported refusal after they realised no one was going to match the £20million. Still no fine for a player who supposedly went on strike…. odd that. Maybe in Jan more players will go on strike to try get a move as the club are so understanding and won’t discipline you for it….. nowt to lose for them.

  • 116 jayphoto // Sep 3, 2013 at 11:16 AM

i’d go 4-3-3 against Villa! Just have a proper go! They are very useful in attack and in Kozak and Benteke they have 2 battering rams if teams sit deep!
    would go with
    Debuchy, MYM, Colo, Santon
    Cabaye Sissoko Anita
    HBA. Cisse, Remy
Lot of pace, trickery etc in there, gives us the option of Gouffran and Shola off the bench to offer a difference in attack if its not working and we’re chasing a goal or Tiote and Jonas off the bench if we’re up and want to hold it for 15 mins at the end!

  • 117 Lilongwe Geordie // Sep 3, 2013 at 11:18 AM

    The Toon,
A great squad for 442?? The only actual wingers you name there are Obertan, and Sammi. The squad doesn’t suit the 442 system in the slightest.

  • 119 The_Toon // Sep 3, 2013 at 11:29 AM

I don’t know why some people think that a 4-4-2 formation would only work if you had two wingers that are only capable of running down the line. Completely a false understanding of a 4-4-2 formation. You need players that are able to cut inside when needed at the same time are able to run down the line ie. Ben Arfa, Samy, obertan, goufran and all those I mentioned. This is the way football is being played everywhere.

  • 120 jimBOB // Sep 3, 2013 at 2:46 PM

I dont care about Gomis, another thing Cabaye! if he wanted to leave so much…like all the press have been stating and he was on strike like all the press were stating…….where was his request to go on the transfer list, because to me that is a big factor in the whole thing, apparently Andy Carrol handed one in just before he left, or so they say. Felleni handed one in. where was Cabs’. the Nufc board need a gggggoooood slap for the way they have went on with him.

  • 121 JP...from The Rock // Sep 4, 2013 at 12:56 AM

One of the deals I’d be more interested in is turning Remy’s loan signing into a permanent one. He will no doubt make a huge difference to our attack IF he stays fit.
