Alan Pardew came out yesterday with a strangely positive statement that looked suspiciously like it had been written by his boss Joe Kinnear, but Joe wanted it put out in Alan’s name, in case fans might think Joe was looking for excuses for not getting the job done in the summer.
Alan Pardew – we have a thoroughbred in Loic Remy
We did get Loic Remy in, and although it is just a loan deal at the moment, the success scenario is that Remy scores lots of goals for us by the end of the year, works well with Papiss Cisse, looks great in a Newcastle shirt, and he signs permanently for Newcastle in January, much like Ben Arfa did in January of 2011, after he had arrived for a season long loan deal from Marseilles.
And it seems that in anticipation of maybe not bringing in another striker before Monday night, Alan Pardew praised Loic to the hilt, after the fantastic 1-0 win on Saturday against Fulham, when the manager said this:.
“Remy is a thoroughbred. You can tell he’s a proper player.” “He looks the part and carries himself well.” “The players have taken to him, and he’s a good guy.” “We’re lucky to have him.”
We wonder what players think about being compared to a horse?
Just a thought.
But we do think Loic is an excellent player, who is made to measure for Newcastle, and he also seems quite a character, and if his interview of a couple of days ago is anything to go by – he already loves it at Newcastle.
Now we have to hope nothing comes of that rape charge he faces in November.
Comments welcome – but please keep them civil and a hint – it’s probably not good to start out a comment by telling another reader they are an idiot. 😀

Comment #202Ok I’m may be about to put the cat amongst the pigeoons here but bare with me.
The obvious excuse for spending nothing other than 2 million on Remy’s loan deal is the amount of money spent and the amount of players brought in during the january transfer window last season.
I agree we could be stronger up front but we could have also bought 11 new players like sunderland have who posses no real quality (possible exception of Giaccherini) .
We haven’t had a bad start to the season keeping 3 clean sheets in our last 4 games. Having watched the Man City and West Ham games there was an obvious lift in performance. Again against Fulham once Cabaye and Remy were introduced we actually possessed some attack prowess.
I beleive, please feel free to argue the point, the players that were brought in in January will keep the squad away from relegation and in the top half IF we manage to keep both Cabaye and Ben Arfa fit and continue to play two up front. The choice between Cisse, Remy and Gouffran and possibly Sissoko playing a more advanced role could well see right.
Ever the eternal optimist, I think now the season is in full swing, the squad that was patched together in January might just suprise us.

I havent gone through all your posts, but I wanted to ask you this- Do u want Ashley to stay or leave ?
If you want him to stay fine. If you want him to leave could you please suggest some way of doing that.
Ashley , as long as he is owner , can do anything – change the name ,colors or perhaps shut it down.
What would you do in that case ?
If I get this straight, you dont want Ashley but you will not do anything to get him out until he does something drastic.

Imagine trying to educate a creationist about evolution.
A lot of Catholics don’t even realise that their Church promotes the idea of evolution.
It is hard to educate people that don’t want to listen. It is also very frustrating.
I think it needs to be a 2 way street. Some fans need to be open to listening and others need to stop being so vocal in their attempts to convert others to their ideals.

Comment #205Shearermania – Good on you. Some great posts.
Now that the transfer deadline is well and truly over, maybe it’s time to calm down, get over the name calling, stand back and have a good look at where we are as a club.
As I see it, the situation is as follows: The fact that we missed out on strengthening our squad of purple players, with the one exception, was a big mistake. The fault here is down to Mike Ashley who, unless he comes out to explain what happened in the summer transfer window, almost certainly denied the funds necessary for Joe Kinnear to do any deals.
After what he said just after his appointment, Kinnear has been left with egg on his face big time!
Without a stronger first team, Pardew, rightly in my opinion, will not risk his best players in the cup competitions for fear of injuries. I’m sure it has been made very clear to him that survival in the premiership is his priority. We should therefor not hold out too many hopes of doing well in the cups as clubs with bigger squads will always have the advantage.
On a brighter note, we have certainly four top top players, Krul, Coloccini, Cabaye, and Ben Arfur. Loic Remic could possibly be another.
Barring injuries to these key guys NUFC will give a good game to most premiership clubs and will retain our place in the top division this season.
Anything else will be a real bonus, but don’t hold your breath. Under this owner it’s just going to be a matter of keeping our expectations down to a minimum. He won’t be here forever.
As for the team, hopefully they will get maximum support, and that, of course, also applies to Alan Pardue. While he may not be a great manager, he is operating under circumstances we can only guess at, and he has at all times displayed a loyalty and a decency worthy of the great club for which he works. We all know the alternative to AP, and it’s not a pretty prospect!

Sadly that’s where Premier League football is going, not just our club…
I find it strange though how people use the famous SBR quote (on the right side of this page) as a stick with which to beat the current owner and his “regime”. They say that he is sucking the soul out of this club. But I see it as completely the opposite! Mike Ashley cannot suck the soul out of the club because the soul is the fans. The amazing ground is still the same, we’re still playing in the top division too. So as long as the players are trying their best and the fans are being passionate fans then the club is at is always was.
We don’t need to be challenging for the CL to be proud of our football club and all Mike Ashley’s job is to be a custodian for our club, to arrange the business side of things. I really care about what Pardew and his coaches do with the players that we have.

Comment #214It may be we are deluded but I’m 100% with shearermania and others of similar thinking who can recognise how much is wrong at the top of our club but will still support it through thick and thin.
NUFC and SJP were there long before Ashley and they’ll be there long after he’s gone. So will the true fans, and by true fans I mean anyone who has the team in his or her heart.
You know who you are. Even if you protest and refuse to give another penny to an owner who you’ve grown to hate, even when you moan and groan and criticise, you know who you are.
The first result you look for will still be ours, you’ll still get that horrible sick feeling when we lose and you’ll still have an extra spring in your step when we win.
I really believe things aren’t as bad as you fear and be honest, you would love it if I’m right.

The right ones? 🙂
To use your example about evolution and creationists, what gain has there been from hitting them head on with an opposing view?
I’m pretty sure you get what I’m saying as you end it with “I think it needs to be a 2 way street. Some fans need to be open to listening and others need to stop being so vocal in their attempts to convert others to their ideals.”
There needs to be respect between both sides or all that will happen is create a bigger divide.
Have we bored everyone to death yet?

Comment #223Beattie…Just as an example…it would be like someone saying something along the lines of -well you must think Hitler was misunderstood if you think we can have a good season-
How is that going to help progress?
To counteract that, I will also say that I know the mentality of no matter what happens or whatever Ashley does, I will still turn up and give him my money doesn’t help progress either.
However, two wrongs don’t make a right and you would think the enlightened ones would be a bit wiser.
As for post 213…That is exactly what I am thinking.

Can you not see or chose to ignore the divide amongst the fans?
There is nothing worse than seeing your own so low and trod on time and time again.
You must live in cloud cuckoo land if you think the majority are happy.
I know you are not oblivious to the sadness all around our club as the people that love it as much as you do cling to the hopes of yesterday in an attempt to be able to dream for tomorrow.
If you are happy with the club that is fine but you shouldn’t dismiss that the club isn’t what it was and may not never be what it could be.
If anything you should seeing the anger of the man to your left and hearing the sobs of the man to your right and thinking, if it is only me and a few others that can accept this, is something wrong with the club?
If your answer is yes then surely it is up to all of us to support one another until we can all feel what it is you feel.
If your answer is no, and you really honestly believe there is nothing wrong with the club and your fellow fans don’t deserve to feel positive again because they’re just whinging or something like that, then you need to come of the high horse and listen to the fnas that are genuinely upset.
Supporting NUFC isn’t about trophies, isn’t about Champions League, is’t about winning every game. The ‘soul’ of this club, for me, has always been born out of the hope that one day we can achieve greatness against all the odds.
That is not NUFC under Mike Ashley.

”But which half should shut up and which side should just listen?”
The ones who do not listen are the ones that never question their beliefs. These are the people that put their fingers in their ears and go la la la la la la la la.
The ones who should shut up are the ones that always try to change the beliefs of others. These are the ones that shout louder and louder when the others put their fingers in their ears.
I think everyone should always question their beliefs and let them grow organically.
I also think that the beliefs should never be forced onto people with any sort of aggression.
Whether we are right or wrong is not the point. It’s not about being right or wrong, in this case I think it’s about wanting to be better fans and supporters of the club and about making the club on the whole better.
The only way to do this is to shut up shouting your objections and stop being ignorant to others and listen.

I was in the process of praising a long post from you yesterday morning when I spill coffee on my keyboard and wrecked it.
It was a good post.
I guess I am one of those who should no who I am, and you are right I will miss things. I also hope to be back one day.
We all must follow our conscience and our feelings. There is no right and wrong.
I don’t see football as a proxy for war, and I wouldn’t presume to think a “true fan” is someone who is just like me.
I feel no negativity at all towards your choices.
And I would love it if you were right too.
I’m out until the loathing dies down and the scores are settled.
