Selection Posers For Pardew – What’s Your Team For Saturday?

I looked back at some of the articles we had out at this time last year, and the mood among the fans seems to be much the same as it is at the moment – not good – but one way things can get better quickly is to  start winning some games – and that starts on Saturday at Villa Park, which will be a  tough test, but it’s one we can win.

Loic Remy – big player for Newcastle

Paul Lambert has done very well since he took over the reigns at Villa, and he managed to keep the side in the Premier League last season, even though he was given precious little money to spend, and while Newcastle brought in five players in January, Lambert was told there was no money available for reinforcements.

And the Villa  fans to their credit stuck by both the manager and the team last year, and it was good to see them survive the drop, as their youngsters came through for the club last season.

But hey, there’s no time for sentiment on Saturday, and we expect Alan Pardew to field an attacking side – one that can win the game – and we expect Loic Remy to make his first start for the side.

But Pardew will have some decisions to make in central midfield as well as in central defense with Steven Taylor, Yohan Cabaye and Cheick Tiote now available to start.

Let us know how you think this game will go on Saturday.

And with Steven Taylor, Loic Remy, Cheick Tiote and Yohan Cabaye all ready to go  – what do you think the starting side will be?

Here’s our shot at the side:

Debuchy Coloccini Yanga-Mbiwa Santon
Ben Arfa Cabaye Sissoko Marveaux
Remy Cisse

That’s not a bad side at all and no room for Anita, Tiote or Steven Taylor, and we’re not sure if Jonas will be fit for this game.

But at least the bench should be strong – let’s know what your starting eleven is  for Saturday.

I’m well aware that football is played on grass and not paper but wow… on paper, this side looks very, very strong.

    Debuchy Coloccini Yanga-Mbiwa Santon
    Ben Arfa Cabaye Sissoko Marveaux
    Remy Cisse

I’d expect Tiote in for Remy though. It looks way too attacking to start a game away from home for Newcastle under Pardew. Especially with how gung ho our fullbacks can be. Can’t see us going 4-4-2. Also expect jonas to displace Marv if fit. Mbiwa rightly keeps out saylor however.

I’m just saying, look at things from the owner’s perspective to see the problem.

    He’s not a football man, he’s a businessman.

The customers are not just the fans these days sadly.

but most likely Pards will play Tiote in the middle of the park, and colo will play centre half and taylor on the bench

you can’t go to villa park and play 4-4-2…it’ll be suicide! gotta be 451

although I wouldn’t play a 4-4-2 I still don’t see how it would be suicidal against a very average Villa, they are nothing to be frightened of, whichever formation we play.

Simple selection for me 4-5-1 / 4-3-3 felxi team of

What i really love about this is that we have some good back up … Tiote, Marveux, STaylor, Dummett, SAmeobi, Shola, Gouffy (i know they are not great but a good bench team for Prem… – i would still prefer to have a better Striker Option but i think our squad looks good and i think we have a couple of good youngsters just starting to push on this team that can cover – Good, Street, Haidara, Vuckic, Cambell etc… all need loan time with option to recall if injuries dictate so maybe to Jan firstly….I am slowly trying to get more optimistic ahead of Saturday – can’t be a 6-0 drubbing we aren’t at home !!!!!!!!!

    B and B

Not mad at all. It just shows what quality we have … on paper, as Carrying says.

I just think Pardew’s negative tactics and uninspiring persona will wreck it. Lets face it, although Villa (like West Ham) have long been good for three points, our away record is terrible and nothing has changed that would suggest an improvement.

we should play with the team we ended up with against fulham in a 433

    Benny Cisse Remy
would be dynamite but it’s pardew we’re talking about who is ultra defensive home or away.

Well, believe it of not, I do have a theory.
One is that our full backs will bomb forward whatever they are told to do. Anita is tidy and can play the Barista role (Yo-Yo, help me here, I’ve forgotten) and has the natural sense and ability to drop in for both full backs.
We pack the midfield a bit, closing that gaping gap between the midfield and the forwards that has been so negative. Sissoko and Jonas can go forward or back as required. Cabaye is playmaker. HBA is Treq…thingy, to pull the defence about, while Remy runs the channels.
It is Aston Villa. And we are not Charlton Athletic.

villa are playing very good football…they were robbed playing against Liverpool and are playing much better than we are having played some good teams in pre-season meaning they’ve now got a bunch of good young kids playing for each other unlike us.

We’re a better team on paper but not a better team on the pitch at this moment in time IMO

in fairness against City we were simply just outclassed, but against West Ham and Fulham we were not defensive, we pinned Fulham back to such an extent that they had 1 perhaps 2 attempts at goal, West Ham we had numerous attempts at goal but we couldn’t get them on target, is that the fault of tactics or an inability from the players whose finishing was abysmal, but what was a certainty was that we did not employ defensive or as some would suggest hoofball tactics.

you may be right you may be wrong, Villa may or may not be better than us, but they certainly are not good enough to suggest playing a certain formation against them would be suicidal, that is way too extreme.

We out long balled West Ham with Fat Sam – the stats I saw said so. There was a change in the last game, Krul played it short, but it was along time coming

    suicidal = we lose

if we only play 4 across the middle against a team who always plays 4-3-3 morphing into 4-5-1 using Agbonlahors speed on the break, they’ll outnumber us all day long in the middle and we’ll lose therefore suicidal.

There’s no-one in our team can match gabby’s speed and I can see Debuchy been given a very hard time…

…I see us getting a point at best but only if we set up 4-5-1

did you see the West Ham game or are you basing your comments on stats, West Ham did not play the long ball game so even if we did hit it long more than them that doesn’t mean we played the long ball game, anyone who was watching the game would tell you that, the only time we have hit it long this season is when we have been clearing the lines, which is what should be done.

Spoof – I did watch the game but clearly remember something different to you. The chances you talk of were not even chances, they were boots from 20 – 30 yards that flew wide or over.

We played half the long balls vs Fulham we did against West Ham – this was noticeable and to say that it was just clearing lines is just wrong.

4-3-3 is our best formation and should be used against every other PL team outside the top 6. If we’re afraid of the likes of Aston Villa what does that tell you of the state of our club right now?

Saturday for me is the final acid test for Pardew he has been making improvements in terms of passing etc but he really needs to play the form players which means Tiote, Taylor, Jonas, Shola and possibly Marveux or Cisse on the bench !??

Villa are decent going forward but shite at the back we should be going for total pace as in Arfa, Sissoko, Remy Gouffran and Anita we have players who could press them high up the field and counter attack them at every opportunity

We are full strength its time to stop being defensive and attack teams the same away as we do at home Liverpool, Swansea , Arsenal all pretty much play the same way no matter the opposition and we have the players to do this as well

Who knows we might be buzzing after our 2 wins in a row we might actually go out all guns blazing lets hope Pardew has been working on a 433 with his 2 weeks off!

I was the match. In the post match interview, which I watched in the 1892 bar, Pardew referred to West Ham’s long ball tactics. I couldn’t believe it. I tried to get Sam’s reaction to it after the game because I thought he wouldn’t be happy. However, he didn’t hang around and got straight on the bus. I heard he was livid when he found out. The stats showed we hit many more long balls than them.

That would be my team and for pretty much the same reasons.

I can’t understand why anyone would drop Anita, man of the match yet again and then so many would drop him.

My only doubt is Cabaye and whether he is mentally or physically fit, he definitely isn’t match fit.
