The Newcastle team has just been announced and both Loic Remy and Yohan Cabaye start, but Vurnon Anita also keeps his place in the side, but Shola Ameobi doesn’t even make the bench for the game today.
And as expect Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa keeps his place in central defense, even though Steven Taylor had served his three match ban for getting sent off at Manchester City in the first game of the season.
And there’s no sign of Jonas Gutierrez, even on the bench, and we had assumed he had recovered from his injury and was available for today’s game.
Local lad Paul Dummett also makes the bench for today’s game and there’s a lot of senior Newcastle players not in the match day squad of 18 today.
Newcastle will also play in a 4-3-3 formation, with the front men being Ben Arfa, Papiss Cisse and Loic Remy, and it’s good to see Anita keep his place after some very tidy performances for Newcastle so far this season.
It’s a tough game today, but if Newcastle can play somewhere near their best form and the defense is solid, we should be able to get something at Villa Park this afternoon.
A win would be great, but a point would also be very decent.
Howay The Lads!!

Looks a cracking line up and finally 4-3-3 but we will see if it actually is 4-3-3 as he usually changes it to 442 451 or 4231. Pardew has no excuse and hopefully he doesn’t hoof and play negative football/tactics with these quality players playing.
No More Excuses.

Comment #44I can see a double change after an hour with Marveaux and Shola on for Cabaye and Remy. Cant see them lasting the pace due to their lack of recent game time

Comment #47Colocinni would make a good defensive midfielder. As a central defender he is pants! On every aerial ball he is a liability; he constantly fails to make clutch challenges in the 6 yard box and is very often out of position when it matters most.
He has been partnered with Williamson, Taylor, Perch and now Mbiwa.in this time our central defence has been terrible. He has been the constant in our constantly-crap central defence. Anyone with any modicum of deductive reasoning ability can see this

I hope that if Cisse doesn’t start scoring, we can see Remy down the middle with Gouffran playing down the left.

Take into account that Colo has had to play along side Saylor, Williamson and Perch who are all average at best.
He is the only player we have that can organise our defence and has looked good alongside Mapou, yes he’s weak in the air but he’s still a very good player and has been our best central defender for years

Comment #57@JackButler I respect your view but I humbly disagree. Pair Taylor with Mbiwa and we’ll have a far more solid central defence. Colocinni’s skills are better suited to him playing the defensive midfield role imo.

Comment #60Without Jonas, Taylor & Tiote barring Sissoko there’s no bite in the team. Jonas & T|iote graft more than the current 5 in midfield.
As much as everyone is happy they arent in the team myself included to some degree. Be aware its an away game against a team who are playing well. Theyve had Arsenal, Chelsea & Liverpool in their first 3 games and have managed 3 points, they will see this as the start of their season.
I can the see the result going either way,
Either we perform well and take the game to them and put them of the back foot.
or we sit back let them come at us and end up crumbling and getting a good beating.

Comment #63Very happy with the starting eleven, hope it remains the same even when Jonas is fit. The only change I perhaps would have gone with is marveaux on the left of the front 3 and remy in the middle with cisse on the bench. Only problem is if it turns into a 4:5:1 which would see Marv probably look worse with the tracking back. Happy though and hopefully we take it to them as its a good technical bunch playing.

Comment #68Newcastle Mole – the likes of Swansea and arsenal don’t really have much bite in their team but their technical players see them through. Cabaye is feisty but its a shame Tiote isn’t showing his form of old and then it really would give us a selection headache In midfield.

Jesper…Will do mate…hopefully positive updates.
TS…Agreed. He does do some stupid bloody things sometimes, but normally is a fairly solid CB…shouldn’t be starting ahead of Colo or MBiwa though.

Taylor has let the side down far too many times for me – and not due to a lack of talent, but due to pure stupidity, which is far worse. If we had signed a CB, I’d rather never see him pull on the shirt again; unfortunately he’s our third choice and third best.

Comment #74No starting English/British player as AaranPD says, a sign of the times. It’s a strong team today so hopefully we’ll get a result.
Didn’t Pardew harp on at the end of last season about missing having a heart of British players through the team! Saying that though, Pardew is an expert at “harping” on.

Comment #80expat – g/day possum ya leedle reepa. Hows things.
I imagine you are readying yourself for the match dressed up like Steve Irwin complete with toon scarf and corked bush hat with your supply of tinnies nearby.
you may have a point about Agbonlahor – for some reason he seems to be a bit re-vitalised recently -replication some good form he showed a couple of years ago.
We look as if we are going for it this afternoon -but might be tricky if they do not control Benteke as I still think our defence is suspect.
