From what we’ve already seen of Loic Remy in a black and white shirt, it’s little surprise that he was the number one choice to replace Demba Ba in January, and we have been after this player for six years, and if he had come to Tyneside nine months ago, instead of doing a detour to that small club in London, who knows what would have happened in the second half of last season?
Loic Remy – sign him in January
But Newcastle have finally got their man, albeit on loan, but Loic seems to have fitted into the side perfectly, and the 26 year-old is already a popular player in the dressing room, and if he keeps playing like he did on Saturday then well need to sing this lad full-time in January
We looked back in our archives and the first time Loic is mentioned is in September of 2007 , six years ago this month, when it looked like we would be signing the then 20 year-old French U21 International in the following January.
Take a read of that article for a trip down memory lane, as Mike Ashley had only just bought the club.
If we do end up signing Remy, that’s six years on from when it looked like we could have signed him in January of 2008.
A young Loic Remy – circa 2007
We did a similar thing when Ben Arfa was on loan at the club for a season long loan deal thee years ago, so we should sign Loic up before other bigger clubs realize what a good player he is.
January 1st would be a good time to do that.
What do you think?

Comment #7How fcuking stupied can you be? Does anyone think QPR will sell once they get bk to the PL will they fcuk, can see Remy having a stormer of a season and qpr demanding him bk or jacking the price up to 12 million deeming us out of running to sign him, from what jfk deem a smart piece of bisness ( 2,ill loan deal) could turn out to be a disaster…. and to say we are getting Gomis for free or buttons will be no consulation for the fact Remy wont be signing.

Comment #9I wouldn’t be surprised if we have an option to buy but also a clause stating that if QPR are promoted then that option is void.
So given the inevitable situation of us losing Remy at the end of the season who could we get in to replace him? We will have the TV money at the end of the season.
The problem is the best players will not come here unless we are playing champions league football. I personally would try and use that TV money to get somebody like Marco Reus to replace Remy… but of course he would never come.

Comment #11Since QPR are in the championship the release clause for the contract can still be activated in January. We find out whether he is guilty or not before then.
So Nufc 11 no Ed isn’t stupid in any way whatsoever. Floppy cannot bump the price up and he has to accept the release clause. Come January it will all be up to Remy on whether he wants to sign or not.

Comment #12Just looked back at that 2007 article and a few others from that time and oh how civil the comments were back then! Even Ed joined in with the comments. It’s a shame we can’t go two articles these days without the insults flying about.

Comment #16Dont want to put a downer on Remy as i am extremely pleased we have him in our side and we certainly look more threatening with him on the left- However i was disappointing in that apart from the run for the goal (was lucky the way the ball deflected from defender) he had a number of 1v1 situations with the full back and never really got past him. In fact he got tackled and lost possession relatively easily and i didnt see much pace from him even though i thought he was very quick.
Hopefully was just fitness issues.

Comment #17nobody knows the release clasue details
was it just the summer window? was it all the time they are in the championship? was it a release clause even if they are in the prem league.
Simple answer is we do not know. no details are given

Comment #18We seem a bit more clever with transfers since the BA Fiasco, I doublt NUFC would want to miss out on top player, I remember Harry giving this quote before the loan:
‘If you were buying Loic Remy for £8million, which there were clubs to buy him for, if you gave him a four-year contract and he ran that down and was a free agent, he’d cost you £2million a year.
‘If somebody wants to loan him they’d be entitled to pay £2million for him.’
If that is true £2 Million is a lot of cash for a Loan I bet there is a clause in the Loan allowing NUFC to buy out the rest of his contact for a slightly elevated amount…
Remy will be a NUFC player by next Summer if he performs as expected…

Comment #19now I think we have very strong team
mbiwa—fast, strong, good on the ball, read game well
colo—great player, read game, great vision
debuchy—with more games will be better and better, strong, good going forward
santon—still only 22 and one of the best fullbacks in the league
anita—great player, good vision, someone who need to be in the line up, doing easy things and make us look good
sissoko—strong, great athlete, box to box player we were missing
cabaye—will come very good and important, can make chances, great vision
remy—excellent athlete, good finisher, good passer and can go past one or two players
HBA—the special one, if he stay fit, he will get many goals and assists
Cisse—his form will come, and he will be banging em for fun
——bench
saylor—good as a third choice, but nothing more
dummet—I like him much, very promising
haidara—same as dummet
willo—as a fourth choice good
tiote—in some games he will be needed, true warrior
jonas—same as tiote, but none of them is starter
marveaux—can bring great pass, excellent vision
Gouffy—excellent player coming from bench, can score, can hold up ball
but we are still short of one strong striker Ba/Gomis and one strong CB Skrtel/Douglas and one winger Ince/Sinclair

Along with all the French players at the club, and playing in front of 50,000 every other week, sure beats a small club some where in London,

True but he did pick QPR over us before so why wouldn’t he do it again? Providing they get back into the premier league.
We just need to get him signed up in january, be difficult to turn down the money for QPR when they not definitely back in the league and Remy might want a guarantee of prem league football next year too.

agreed. if debuchy can put in consistent performance like Beye did we might have a great combination on the flank with Arfa and Debuchy.
As it stands they both just don’t tick. Beye would be awesome in this team.

Comment #26We looking too far ahead. Other goal scorers to be in line if Remy leaves us.
As long as his trial doesn’t affect his career and we can get through late autumn & early winter .. Then we’ll assess the situation.
Party on the Tyne in mean time .. Pardew has hopefully pulled it!
Joe Kinnear YES will be on case about prospective transfers. He can only spend in reams of budget given. Hopefully the pressure on will make Ashley get bigger and better toys in the box.

If there isn’t one there is an easy way around it. Agree terms with Remy first, then cancel the loan deal and then in turn trigger the release clause.
Put it this way I think Remy will be a permanent Newcastle player come end of Jan, if not I will be extremely surprised.

No trial as of yet, not even charged.
I think in January we need cover for Cisse and cover on the right for ben arfa. Those two positions would be enough I think.
Be nice to have an option of a goal scoring mid too.

Comment #32@29 It was a fiasco cause Ba leaving for £7 Mil on his current form was a disaster, what they should have done is not had a clause in place when they signed him… Ba Would have left no matter how much we offered him, his head was turned by Champions League football…

Remy has been arrested and bailed, no charge as of yet. Currently bailed to November.

The club messed up big time. They should have renewed his contract in the summer to remove the release clause, before he had interest from the likes of chelsea. To give him the release clause to start with was ok, might have been the only way to get him to sign. We just got caught out being cheap and not paying him what he was worth.

Comment #37Why would Ba have agreed to remove his release clause? Maybe if they upped hs wage to £80kpw but was he worth that with a suspect knee and the likely disruption to the rest of the squad. Would Cisse have been happy being paid so much less?
As for Remy…how bad would JFK and MA look if they had signed him and he ended up being convicted of rape??
The right decisions were made in both cases, people should stop looking for ways to criticise, there are always little things to find in every situation.
