It was not a goof time for Newcastle to put in their worst performance at St. James’ Park this season, as owner Mike Ashley and Director of Football Joe Kinnear were at the ground for the first time this season, and they would not have left very impressed with the Newcastle display – certainly the fans weren’t.
Alan Pardew – defense was not committed enough
Newcastle looked excellent in the first 20 minutes of the game, and Loic Remy will make a big difference to the team, as long as we can keep him fit, and he is now already joint top scorer with Ben Arfa with two goals, after just over two full games in the black and white shirt.
Alan Pardew did not pick out any particular player for criticism today, and we looked decent going forward:
“I wouldn’t say creativity was the problem. It wasn’t any individual’s performance that cost us the game today. It was a collective effort and it’s the collective effort we need to find consistency in.”
“I thought the whole team defensively should have been more committed. It was that tightness at Villa that got us the victory.” “I can’t say it’s a day that I’m going to fondly remember.”
“You know, I’m standing on the sidelines and I am a little bit disappointed with a lot of factors about today’s game.” “But the thing that we must improve on is our consistency of performance, as individuals and as a team.” “That is what got us to finish in fifth place two years ago.”
“This is a place where we need to crank it up all the time and keep the pressure on. I think when we scored, we just went down a gear and that is sometimes enough to give hope to the opposition.”
“They got the goal, and then they probably felt that they could score again, and they ended up doing that.” “In terms of Hull’s display today, it was very good. All their players played very well.”
The Newcastle players should watch the Manchester derby of yesterday, and see the passion and commitment shown by all the Manchester City players, and if our players had shown half of that commitment we would have easily won the game on Saturday,
We need to see more commitment and passion from our players, and the new lads should learn pretty quickly that this is not just any club they are now playing for.
When the lads give 100% they will always be cheered off the field, but when they look half-hearted and hesitant like they did on Saturday, they will get boos at the end of the game, and on Saturday they deserved that send-off at the end of the game from our very long-suffering fans.
The players had all better give 100% on Wednesday night against Leeds United, and it’s a good opportunity for them to make up for the rather pathetic display and terrible result of last Saturday

Maybe Anti-Ashley campaigners are using their time to affect change in a meaningful way? Or it could just be the same thing is happening to this blog, that is happening to SJP. Ashley, with his vice like grip on the club’s throat, is choking people’s passion for the club and breeding a poisonous apathy that threatens the very thing that makes Newcastle United so special.

Comment #83i think the blog has gone a bit shit because posters are talking about anything and everything but the team. thats what its here for, not a load of bullshit conspiracy theories and over reactions from ignorant people.
i think/hope/expect we learn from the defeat at the weekend and will be better for it, its not a big deal, we played well for large parts and its clear where we were lacking

On the contrary, I think it’s those that have blindly supported every crime against humanity that Ashley has commited that have turned people away.

its why i dont comment a lot. i tend only when pissed off or to make a seroius football comment or opinion when theres a debate going.
you provide the occasional laugh, il give you that, but all the negativity has sucked the life out of the blog. (not holdingyou personally responsible) 😉

Comment #91i belive the notion of football supporters is to support your team. this blog is aimed at giving fans the chance to read up on all information the fans want to hear and post an opinion. im no ashley fan but you could act outside of here instead of using this as an outlet for your negativity. its getting you and the rest of like minded people nowhere.
i would rather talk about the U-19s on here than ashley

this team has been together less than 6 months. does ashley take training and pick the team?? pardews nearly had 3 years, but the teams changed a lot since then. we just need to hold concentration levels, have a bit more fight about us and defend set pieces better. then we should be top7…
get a grip my arse

i consider myself and my fellow newcastle fans some of the best in the whole world. its funny how none of them seem to be on this blog. i could talk for hours about the newcastle football team, its what i care about. the blog has gone shit because is full of negativity.
offkey
i admit we’re as bad if not worse at attacking set pieces than defending them. we’re newcastle united, we’re set up to play attacking this year and you moan about our defence??
we invested in january, quite a lot relatively, not much in the summer but i for one bought the line about whats the point buying players if theyre not gonna challenge the 1st team instantly. i believe they tried,i believe they failed but who f**king cares, we have a decent team, support it!

Comment #104Dicanio’s round at mine now, we are having a beer and we are chortling at how he has done a ‘proper’ job up the road. He reliably informs me that Pardew does get called a lackey by MA and that he does not mind as he does not know what it means.
