It’s an important game tomorrow night in the Capital One Cup against former European Cup semi-finalists Leeds United, and it’s one that Alan Pardew will be looking to win, after Saturday’s disastrous result against Hull, and not a very good performance either.
Mike Williamson – likely to start tomorrow night
But Alan will need to give some of his fringe players a game, and at the same rest some of his current starters for next Monday night’s league game at Everton.
At the very least Pardew ill have the bench full with experienced players in case they are needed during the game, and it’s not going to be easy with over 5,000 Leeds fans making the trek up from Yorkshire.
Here’s a possible team Alan could start tomorrow night, assuming both Jonas and Haidara are not available, and of course Shoal Ameobi and Steven Taylor are both out injured for a few weeks, and Cabaye is not available either.
Elliot
Debuchy Williamson Coloccini (c) Dummett
Marveaux Gosling Bigirimana
Gouffran Cisse Ameobi (Sa)
There are eight changes to the side that started on Saturday, and the manager may not want to make that many changes in what is an important game for us.
With Mike Williamson fit again, we think he may edge out young Curtis Good, who played well at Morecambe, and we seem to lack decent heading power in the back line these days, and Mike will give us that.
And Cisse will be given a start in the hopes he can get a goal, but Papiss needs to look a lot more threatening than he has so far this season, if he wants to start the game next Monday night.
The last thing we need is another defeat, and that would be disastrous after the bad loss to Hull on Saturday.
What would your team be for Leeds?

Comment #1No reason not to play the full starting 11 Tiote in for Cabs and I would drop Debuchy and bring in Dummit at LB moving Santon to RB
I’d also tell Cisse that if he doesn’t contribute then he won’t be starting against Everton.
We make 8 changes and once again we aren’t taking the competition seriously despite what the club say

Comment #2They should field as close a team to Saturday as possible, bring in Tiote for Cabaye and possibly tinker with the forward line maybe bring in Vukic

Comment #4Martin from previous post, do you think we should play 4-5-1 versus Everton and drop Cisse. I definitely agree with you that Tiote and Anita should start in the middle versus them.
something has to be done RE: covering for HBA.

ed just churns it out like a man has a gun to his head
quality > quantity dude in every case, but since you used to work for IBM i guess you know nothing of this
I’m sorry Jeff but if you don’t like Ed’s articles then deactivate your account and leave. What gives you the right to sarcastically mock Ed referring to where he worked? Why don’t you tell us all what you do for a living and then we cann all proceed with providing our own critical evaluation and presumption of what you would know a lot about and what you would “know nothing” about.
Back to relevant matter at hand….I too think Tiote should come in for Cabs if he is not fit. However, that may leave us with less creativity. When you bear this in mind and add it to the fact that away from home at Goodison we will have to play on the counter, which means our striker up top needs to have a good touch and hold-up play in order to buy time for our players to move up, I think it’s better that Cisse is on the bench and Goofy comes in for this one.
So that would mean Tiote in for Cabs if injured and Goofy in on the left and Remy up top.

Comment #8Jimmy smith would be nice if Marveaux could be allowed to play in his position he played at Rennes, attacking midfield, he looks lost when played out wide.

Yea, Cisse needs a wake up call and a goal but other players have to be given a chance, he just has no right to be an automatic choice on this diabolical form.

Comment #11Of course Remy n Benny could start, but I feel the starting 11 mentioned in my previous post would at least go out to prove a point.
Ive always liked our younger players and still feel Pardew was way way to harsh on them for last season, his seniors are the ones who got us in all the bother, the youngins in the majority got us first English CLUB QUALIFIED FOR THE LATTER STAGES OF Europe.

Comment #12Drop Cisse and Debuchy they need to be taught a lesson, give Williamson to the Maccums they need another manager. Luckily Jonas and S Taylor are still injured si cannot be picked
Put Santon RB and Dummett LD, Colochini and Anita in the middle, Marvo in for Cabaye, HBA, Goofy and Remy up front. With Gosling, Sammy and Bigirimana on the bench to come on in second half.
Go for it, the players do not deserve a rest after the shambles on Saturday.

Comment #19Your possible team Ed is one way of giving Alan Pardew the carte blanche of having our club unceremoniously drummed out of this competition. Your suggested line-up is an insult to our club, its fans, and its traditions. We must play always the best available team and not play silly games with the game!!!
