When Coloccini injured his back in the home game against Southampton last season, he was out for around eight weeks, and Newcastle missed Colo’s calm demeanor in the center of the defense, and we didn’t well at all.
Fabricio Coloccini – will he stay past next summer?
And when he came back into the team for the final three games of the season, the defense seemed to tighten up significantly, and it was clear just what an influence the captain is to Newcastle, both on and off the field.
Coloccini said in June he will stay for this season, after trying to get out of his contract in January to return to Argentina, but we suppose it’s no more than that, so we’ll have to wait until next summer to see what transpires.
Certainly Alan Pardew, who appointed Colo as captain two years ago after Kevin Nolan left for West Ham, certainly wants him to stay:
“I don’t know how to put that into words, really. He is very, very important, a very steady, calming influence. “Last year when he wasn’t playing, there was something missing from the team.”
“That’s why it’s so important that he stayed – and hopefully he will stay for a lot longer than this year as well.”
Coloccini’s contract runs out in the summer of 2916, and we hope he can stay to see out that contract.
But we’re not sure of his personal situation with his family, who are now living in Buenos Aries.
