£7M Too Much For Newcatle To Pay For This Player

12:05 pm, Sunday, September 29th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 5 Comments

Newcastle were after PSV’s Dutch U21 International goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet in the summer, and were even reported to have bid £2M for the Dutchman, who was to be brought into challenge Tim Krul for the number one goalkeeper position at Newcastle.

But like a lot of our pursuits over the summer, we didn’t get our man, and now there’s news in the Dutch press that now the 22 year-old is the top goalkeeper at PSV,  his price has shot up to £7M.

That’s a lot of money to pay for an untested goalkeeper, who initially could even be the number three goalkeeper on Tyneside, given that Rob Elliot has done so well when substituting for Tim Krul.

But it seems that Alan Pardew wants three goalkeepers who can come into the Newcastle first team in the Premier League, so while Newcastle may still be out looking to bring in another goalkeeper in January, for £7M it will not be Zoet.

But there’s got to be some other good young goalkeepers Newcastle could bring in for around £2M to £3M, which is what the club want to pay out.

What do you think?

Do we not have enough depth in the gk position. I don’t understand why we keep going for one when we need other positions filled

if you read the chronicle, it says because we are willing to sell krul to either Milan or Arsenal

Do we actually have £7 million available to spend in the first place?? Chances are, we do – however, by the time you add in Extortionate Agents Fees, Wages over his career at NUFC, Scouting Costs etc, etc, etc then NO, we probably cant afford to buy him.

Keeping the overdraft at Zero, or less, is far more important than strengthening the team!!
