Alan Pardew talked with the local Newcastle press this afternoon, and of course he talked about the game coming up on Saturday at Cardiff, and also the match last Monday against Everton, when we were hopeless with no fight in the first half, and we looked a good side with loads of spirit in the second half – so go figure that one out.
Mike Ashley with Joe Kinnear picking his nose on Monday night
But Alan has said his Newcastle team must be consistent and play well over the full 90 minutes and that will be the emphasis on Saturday.
And Alan revealed he had asked for a meeting with Mike Ashley and Joe Kinnear after the disastrous game at Everton, and two successive league defeats.
This is some of what Alan Pardew said this afternoon:
“It was important to go and see the owner after a game like that, and see we know where we are coming from.” “We had a good meeting after with me, Mike and Joe.”
“Just to make sure we know exactly what is going on, on the pitch and in terms of the result.” “There was nothing untoward.”
Nevertheless there is now significant pressure on Alan and the players to get a decent result, and hopefully it will be a win at Cardiff City on Saturday, otherwise we’ll have to stew in another poor result for two weeks during the International break.
And then we have Liverpool at home in the next league game – now let’s think how did we do in the corresponding game last season?
🙁

Are you incapable of looking at things from the other side? And are you incapable of wording things in a balanced way? I’m not sure why you are fixated on Sissoko, I think I just agreed with someone at some point that if Ashley is to get all this stick for the club’s current situation, he also deserves some praise for some of the good things. You can’t blame him for other manager’s under-performance and yet not praise him when his staff over-perform.
He didn’t treat Shearer like shit. From what I understand Shearer (after 1 win in 8??) demanded a £20M transfer budget to get us promoted. Shearer was a great player and is a passionate fan but egotistical Mike Ashley won’t gel with egotistical passionate fan.
And it was ludicrous to appoint KK for the same reason. Ashley is the boss and he dictates how the club is to be run. If he wanted to ensure there was a tight reign on transfers then he shouldn’t have hired a maverick like KK. It was a mistake because those 2 are like chalk and cheese.
Pardew wasn’t a bad appointment, just wasn’t a great one either. He was a solid choice that’s all.
I’d rather we kept the name of the stadium too, I totally agree. But I never really felt the name went, hardly anyone used it.
You talk about fair money being spent, but surely we should only spend the money that we have? We’ve already got a lot of debt and we know Ashley isn’t a fan of more debt, plus the new FFP rules discourage it. The whole principle of modern football is to only spend what you generate. So what we really need to do is generate more money!

Comment #42Another scary thing is that West Ham and Fulham may pass us as well in the next few games, mainly depending on their schedules versus ours. It’s ridiculous but we might be 18th come early November. Would Pardew still be with us then? I certainly hope not. Maybe the men with the butterfly nets will have come for Ashley as well.

Jack- Can’t remember the last good 90 minutes in a league game. We had some good performances in Europa last year but that’s about it.

Comment #44Munster Mag- I am very well thanks and i trust you are ! Just calm down my old mucker – things can only get better.
Who really knows what Ashley’s main goal is now. Based upon his personal involvement in signings in January it was survival and to protect his investment and to secure the increased television money but many argue its not much more than getting his cash back and little else. If Journalism were my chosen profession I would , through an investigative campaign, seek to get answers to the why’s and what’s that we all want answering. Too many are prepared to accept his recluse like existence because its difficult. What a scoop unfortunately too many in the north east just pay lip service.
The sad fact is that Leeds United despite not having the 50,000 gates at this moment in time could well represent a better investment opportunity than the toon. Bates was an old miser running a tight ship. He was despised by their fans as much as we despise Ashley.
Anyway, it is also not helped by the fact that Ashley has a limited understanding of football and we can’t really be sure he fully appreciates what is required to be successful at this level . However he is on the record as saying that he would spend £20 million a season on new signings. I can almost hear you saying he can’t be trusted!

I remember the £20M comment too. Wasn’t it along the lines of that he would be willing to bankroll the club to the tune of £20M a season for the foreseeable future? I’m not sure whether that meant an interest free loan or gift but this was before the KK debacle and the death threats Oh I wonder if things could have been so different…

We still have a long way to go, but I am very optimistic fan. I am only interested in the past when I can learn something from it.
– We lost 3 games,
– We won 2 and
– We drew 1,
Just like ManU. SO WHAT? IMO we are a good side. We have 11 international players:
1. Krull: holland
2. Santon: Italia
3. Deb: France
4. Colo: Argentina
5. Mbiwa: France
5. Cabay: France
7. Sissoko: France
8. Tiote: Ivory Cost
9. Arfa: France
10. Remy: France
11. Cisse: France
We will finish in the top four. That is my bet and That is my opinion 🙂
Next game: win and then ==>
– We lost 3 games,
– We won 3 and
– We drew 1,
🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

For Ashley we are a business venture that has gone wrong and he will offload us at the first opportunity and you’d have to think that when he’s done with us Ranger could well be his next prodject

are you serious that Pardew wasn’t a bad choice he was a shocking choice, i said the day he arrived we would get to this point, not because i have a crystal ball, but simply checking his cv. his tenure at ST James has gone the way of every other job hes had and he’s won nothing, and the 5th place was a fluke i remember going home from games asking the lads i was with to explain how we got points, it was erratic as it is now we have gone in a circle ground hog day, i have been hear before. Pardew’s a total p*ick.

I think that sums it up, although I don’t think he’ll offload at the first opportunity, I think he’ll offload at the best opportunity for himself. i.e. if the club has 2/3 top 10 finishes then it becomes more attractive, but it also needs to be self sustaining. Tough balance…
And I don’t think that’s 100% why he bought it at first. He just acted like an idiot in trying to be a fan and a business owner. Got carried away…

Comment #56So many of us predicted we would be at or around the drop zone again, and we’d be getting the same old worrying performances. It wasn’t hard to predict and so it has proved.
If Pardew drops Benny, the man who has bailed him out so many times, it must surely prove to those who want to give him more time just what a clueless numpty he is. Has he got the wit to find a suitable role for the most gifted player at the club? And what will it say for him if he resurrects Willo, the man he dismissed as “the other guy” when he dumped him in the hinterlands?

He wants shot of us as soon as possible, to the point where I think he’ll take the first offer that allows him to break even and walk away and until then he will run us on the lowest possible outlay and we’ll do nothing but survive as a consiquence

You could be right but there’s really no way of knowing as we’re not exactly going to get honesty out of the man…
Lowest possible outlay though…the only point of that would be to increase the club’s bank balance. No, it makes more sense to continue the policy of only signing players if the deal is right. Sign a £10M player for £5M and you’ve effectively increased the value of the club by £5M. That’s what he’s trying to do…
He’s done it with SD too. He’d offer £200M to buy a business and they’d say no, then he’d target them commercially so a years later they’d be in trouble, approach him and he’d end up buying it for £50M. That’s his style.

He’s been running us on the lowest possible outlay for some time now. All those players that came during January only did so because our place in the league was under serious threat, if we had been sitting pretty in mid table we would not have seen them.
He gambled last summer and has done so again this summer and no doubt if/when we are in trouble come January next year he’ll agree to spend again as what he pays out on transfers is peanuts to what we will lose if we are relegated. But it’s sickening that he is actually prepared to gamble with our future……………the sooner he’s gone and taken his bumbling minions with him the better. Just hope he does make moves on Rangers and tries the same stunts he’s tried down here as he’ll be run out of town in a heart beat

I didn’t really care whether he stayed or went over the Summer to be honest. If he’d have gone then it would only have been worth it for a proper upgrade in my opinion.
So once the decision was made that he would stay, I said that he needed to be given a chance. Well I think his chance will be over soon…surely he’ll be gone by the end of this month if things going really improve. SBR was sacked for a lot less!

All this stuff about money though…you realise that it’s the club’s money? And it isn’t going anywhere?
The facts are that he took back £11M of his £29M short-term loan and has deferred the option to take the remaining £18M (was supposed to be this season).
So if we spent more then that’s the club going into more debt. If we spend less then the club’s bank balance improves for the next window.
It’s not his money that goes into the running of the club, it’s the club’s money.
Some people seem to think that NUFC’s money, MA’s money and SD’s money are all the same thing. Not true.

Every team gets approximately £25m (Deloitte) more in TV money this season. Considering we made a £1m profit last year, we do have the money. Should have spent some of that cash, as almost every other team did in the League.

Don’t you find it funny or even questionable that we hear that there’s no money at the club but amazingly when we are threatened by relegation they suddenly find a spare £18 million laying around to spend in January??? No doubt if/when we are facing a relegation battle again next January they’ll find another pot of gold.
