41 year-old Malky Mackay is a good friend of Alan Pardew, and he played for Alan and was the captain when the Newcastle manager was managing at West Ham, and Malky says Pardew is also his mentor in management, and apparently the Cardiff City manager has called Alan a few times for advice during his management career at Watford and Cardiff City.
Malky Mackay – Alan Pardew is his mentor
This is what Malky Mackay told the Journal today about the Newcastle manager:
“Alan is a good friend and a mentor.” “We have had some amazing conversations in the last few years that have really helped me.” “I was his captain at West Ham and I know he is a man who can bring stability to Newcastle United – that is why they gave him a long-term contract.”
“Just look at his record there – he orchestrated that.” “The first half at Everton was not what he wanted.” “He changed things a little against a very good Everton team, and in the second half they played like the Newcastle I have seen so many times.”
“In the end they almost nicked a draw, which would have been unbelievable on the night.” “They have some excellent footballers. Papiss Cisse is a proven goalscorer while Cabaye is a top class international footballer.”
“Give him an inch and he can put the ball in the top corner from 25 yards.” “And Hatem Ben Arfa is absolutely unplayable on his day.”
It’s true that Newcastle have some very good players right now, and our squad is the strongest it’s been since we got back into the Premier league three years ago.
But the players are playing nowhere near their best, and that’s the challenge for tomorrow in South Wales – it’s for some of our players to start playing near their best form. and also that our defense shows some signs of solidity and strength, after leaking six poor goals in our last two league games.
If we can do that, we may even be able o get something out of tomorrow’s game.

Comment #41In Pardew’s first full season, he went on about how they trained to deal with situations when players were in the wrong position and how they would go forward as a team and back as a team. All of this seemed to work well in the season we finished 5th. It was great to see players bursting forward compared to the slowness of our previous team (Barton etc. included).
So why does he change? We now have defensive midfielders that don’t do their primary job of defending, players constantly caught out of position, and often the midfielders don’t get up to support the attack. Fans of other teams he’s managed say pretty much the same.

Please leave the sex analogies out. I’m a cocoa person and I’m in enough of a tizz, thank you 🙂
So, what is the point of putting players on long contracts, if they may be depreciating in value?

the figures you use in post 25 are like you with £5 or a £10 reading you run your own business to some else it could be like 5p 10p the world Ashley lives in the time you bent down to pick up a £50 note you will have made a £100, the time we live in theirs the rich the super rich then theirs the Ashley of this world, then your next level like Abramovich.
my brother was told by Chris Mort that Ashley met john hall at the fa cup final & went on to tell Ashley how he used the club to promote his business, he also told Ashley that he had a number of interested party’s, and many had done due diligence as a sale was imminent. now i don’t know if it was true about the suspected flip, i would doubt it it was simply a s a tool to promote sports direct.
Chris Mort had warned Ashley about the debts and advised him to get his accountants on the case but he must have decided that the £86m debt was not a problem he had just sold 40% of sports direct, and at the time he had £100,000,000’s in cash possibly as much as £1.5b in cash.
The issue of due diligence was cobbled up by Llambias to discredit Chris Mort who was liked by the fans. and that’s facts that was passed on to me without any waning so i guess he would not care me repeating it.
I’m not sue if Nile & Biffa were at the same do when Chris Mort told my bother, and I’m sure one of them were when Llambias went on to slag off Chris Mort.

Comment #49Anyone got any ideas for a formation for tomorrow? I’m not going to bother repeating my opinion about it in detail but we have to balance attack and defense much better than we have been. Santon doesn’t offer enough at LB, especially when Debuchy is also struggling defensively at RB. That needs immediate attention. We also have to get Cisse going as BB says or bench him again. Benny needs to find space in attack and that comes from good passes from CM. Gouffy will continue to work hard and Remy is a fine scorer. We have a chance but no more defensive collapses please.

And sorry mate, I really struggle to read posts, especially long ones with lots of details when the grammar is bad. I don’t mean to offend if you’re dyslexic or were poorly educated, but if it’s just laziness, could you try and make your posts more legible?
I’m afraid I have no idea what your last post meant…

The point of putting players on long contracts is down to several reasons:
Firstly if it’s just a 2 year contract, then the value of the player would halve after one year in the accounts.
Secondly, obviously the player could also sign a pre-contract with a foreign club after 18 months and leave for free after 2 years.
Finally, FPP considers the transfer value and the length of contract when taking into account expenditure against revenue. So a £12M signing on a 6 year deal counts as £2M a year for transfer expenditure. Hence City spending so much initially but ensuring they were all on long-term contracts…

Comment #57We seem to be doing better with Remy and Gouffran. I suppose if Pardew feels we can risk it he could try 4-3-3 with Remy, Cisse and Gouffran up front. That may be the way he starts the match although it will probably look more like 4-5-1. Where to put Benny is a problem with the 4-3-3 formation for me. We need a good passing CM but you have to track back from that position. Interesting dilemma though.

Comment #58Aye Graeme @53. The 4-3-3 will probably end up looking like 4-5-1 if they press us hard. If it’s 4-4-2 I would go with Remy and Gouffran up front mate.

Comment #60The January signings were half a season too late and should have been bought a year last August.
Therefore, the zero signings we made this window, mean that there’s an awful lot of revenue heading somewhere, and it’s not being put into the team. That part is clear.

I can’t remember how much we paid for various players back in January, or the contract lengths.
But say if, as a mean, we signed four five million pound players on four year contracts, under FPP does that mean we spent five million on transfers in January, not £30m?
The ways of calculating transfer spend just seem so hard to follow. So many versions of the truth!

Comment #63Thing is if ToondarnSarf wants attention or is a wind up merchant he must be in dreamland right now, I know the financial side of things at the toon are not to bad, but when you are being forced to endure barefaced lies virtually every day all filtered down from MA then it gets tiresome, it gets annoying, and downright disrespectful, no love, no feelings, no passion, the soul extracted surgically from our great club, and for me it is at this moment im beyond sympathy for the near triple billionaire, we live this club, its just a plaything for im, well it must be if you employ JK n AP, and as someone said AP was it we are the new Entertainers!!! yea our back four are a bunch of clowns for starters.
Sarf, you are literally running the ship on your own at this moment, I don’t know how MA can get supporters back on board, I have jumped ship, are you that stubborn, are you that happy being forcibly lied and bullshitted to??????

If you can show me the post that dealt with the club lying to the fans meeting then my apologies, and as for the dress anology what has that got to do with the clubs lies, if I told my missus that nice dress I promised was in the wardrobe and when she looked it definitely wasn’t yet I still insisted it was, not only would she think me a mean cheapskate but also clearly unhinged.

Comment #68So much for squad depth. From the defenders in our 24 man squad, Ryan and Stevie are injured as well as Haidara. The starting four are in poor form.
All this leaves the youth like Dummett, Good, Streete, Mbabu and the unconvincing Tavernier.
And the nervous long-ball hoofer yet consistently solid Mike Williamson. Who, if there is any hope to be had, works reasonably well with Coloccini.
Transfer market should have addressed this ahead of a striker.

Comment #69Hope loaning Gosling out means we have a go in the cup, instead of fielding a team of second choice/youth. Dummett, Haidara, Bigi, Sammy…they need to be eased into a full strength team over the course of the season, a winning team would help.

Comment #70If I was the owner I would look for good performances, consistently competing with every team we play against, not one good performance then 2 bad ones, then something iffy in between. Mid table will be a real challenge for this management group.

Comment #71We were never deep as a squad OhShola @68. The owner doesn’t want to spend to make us competitive. It’s an endlessly repetitive sequence: no spending in the summer, get injuries, struggle, try to recover with panic buying in January, then repeat ad nauseum. What a recipe for success.

Comment #72JFA, I was also jail for jail, may not remember that one ha ha, so that’s three, time for me to stick my chest out and eat some really juicy Humble pie, and although I am not were you are with MA, I STILL NEED TO HOLD MY HANDS UP, those two idiotic appointments with JK n AP and the bare faced lies over the last two summer windows have convinced me it is not on, I wont back down on the fact we could have been LEEDS, but still the progression just does not look right at all, he just wants to protect his acuasition without further investment, (unless he sells players) cant ever in the next 5/10 years see any proper light, cant challenge that top six, the fair play league is a joke and our only chance, but no bugger is taking any notice of it, 9 still feel he will leave us in a healthy position when he goes but the bullshit inbetween is to much even for me at this moment., you also win at this moment, so fair enough. that’s about as much of an apology as your going to get ha ha, better than getting the golden glove bonny lad!!!!

Pleased to hear it. From what I can gather, the Time4Change movement is highly motivated and learning to be very disciplined. I imagine it will be a bit like herding cats, and the trick will be not jump in when the pen is opening.
Every word would need to count, I’d imagine. There is a big group of undecideds out there. Winning a point where it won’t count isn’t so much.

Comment #75Don’t think we’ll see that or anything like it askar mate @73. Cabaye is still nursing a groin pull, Gouffran has been excellent and you’ve left him out of the side, and there’s no saying Santon will be any better defensively at RB than at LB. Huge problems in the squad right now including those above as well as Cisse’s horrible goal drought, Benny being marked out of games with no decent passes to free him up, poor play overall from the defense. It goes on and on. No win for us in Cardiff I’m afraid. 2-1 to them.
