Alan Pardew has benched three players – Yanga-Mbiwa, Ben Arfa and Vurnon Anita – after the Monday night horror show at Everton and in come Mike Williamson and Yohan Cabaye as expected, and Papiss Cisse also returns to the starting line-up in place of Ben Arfa.
We expected Mike Williamson and Yohan Cabaye to come into the starting line-up, but the dropping of Ben Arfa was not expected, although he hasn’t played very well in the last couple of league games.
Vurnon Anita makes way for Yohan Cabaye, and it’s unfortunate the Dutchman has missed out since he had a decent game on Monday night, and he’s been playing well for Newcastle this season.
It was between Cheick and Vurnon as to who joined Sissoko and Cabaye in the midfield three, but maybe the manager wanted Tiote’s hustle and bustle in midfield.
Newcastle will continue to play in a 4-3-3 formation, as are Cardiff City, and we’ll have Remy, Cisse and Gouffran as the front three this afternoon.
Newcastle need something out of this game, and we need to see every single player playing their hearts out for Newcastle this afternoon, and if can do that, then we should be able to get something out of this game.
