When Loic Remy got back in the dressing room after the game yesterday, the Newcastle players were telling him his second goal was reminiscent of the great Thierry Henry, and it was both a precise and clinical strike from the 26 year-old French International.
Loic Remy – compared to Thierry Henry
That’s a huge complement to be compared to one of the best ever strikers ever to grace the Premier League, along with our very own Alan Shearer, but Loic seems to have brushed it off and says he wants to be known as Loic Remy, and not just being similar in style to Henry.
This is what Loic said on the Newcastle web-site immediately after the game yesterday:
“I am very happy and delighted because that is what I work all week for,” “I am a striker so it is my job to score.” “Today I took my chances.”
“The first goal was very good – in training I was not scoring many goals with my feet but I worked hard to change that, so when I saw the ball in the net I was very happy.”
“The second goal, I did a good job in following the ball and scoring.” “The guys in the changing room said to me it was like a Thierry Henry goal, so that made me smile.”
“I am often compared with Thierry Henry and it is nice to hear that from people because it means I am doing something right.”
“But we are two different players with two different careers and I want to be known for being Loic Remy, not just someone who is like him.”
France’s manager Didier Deschamps will be happy to read this morning how both Loic Remy and Yoan Cabaye had excellent games yesterday for Newcastle.
And Deschamps may consider calling up Yoan Gouffran, who continues to perform well in almost every game for the side, and has fought his way back to being a starter again, against some significant competition.
Didier must look for Newcastle’s result every week these days, as he checks on five or six Newcastle players who could make the France World Cup squad for next summer.
When are we going to see Didier Deschamps at St. James’ Park?

Comment #41Nufc11 I can remember the days when supporters used to be happy on a Sunday after a win. Simpler times perhaps. Now we have a parade of malcontents desperate to find something bad to say because they are so hungup on changing the manager.

Comment #42I’m sorry if I offend anyone, and I do respect the right of different opinions. That said, how the f*ck can anyone say colo is passed it or a liability? He is the best centre half to ever wear our kit. He’s calm, reads players runs, hardly ever gets overpowered despite his smaller stature and when on the ball he is always looking to pick out good pass. The lad is pure class.
Similar with santon, he is also a good player. He got a lot of stick yesterday for leaving his man, however he was only leaving his man to close down the one tote let run past, and it was said he actually had a good game.

Comment #43Great 1st half yesterday. 2nd, expected Cardiff to up their pace. We still had a few chances whilst being under the cosh and an on form Cisse could’ve scored 3 or 4.
I had £5 on Remy hat trick 40/1 then Pardew took him off. Dont know if he was injured but Pardew got the blame anyway 😀

It’s because we decide to look at the bigger picture, instead of burrowing along from match to match, kidding ourselves. We ask the question: what does that win mean in the grand scheme of things? What is the clubs goal? When you ask those questions, the victory is a hollow one, as you know it’s only brief respite before we lurch towards the next mini-crisis or humiliating episode.

Comment #46I think the main reason that Newcastle are the Jekyl @ Heyde of the Premiership is that Mr Pardew and us the fans is ,that we still do not know are best starting eleven players on the pitch.
Until we get a team playing regularly together, who know each other inside out, we will struggle.
For example in the better days under Keegan the team picked itself from 1 to eleven.
The great Man utd and Arsenal sides of not too long ago were regular of clockwork.
The second problem we have is .,is Mr Pardew and the coaching staff the right ones too complete the jigsaw ?

Comment #47Because I’m 22 and have my whole life ahead of me, with many passions besides my dwindling one for NUFC and football. Fairly straightforward.

Played well first half yesterday but how is Ashley to blame over Pardew for losing to Hull at home with half the French national team at his disposal?

Comment #51Harry Redknapp, made comments through the week, saying if a player/players ie Remy/Tarrabt feel they do not want to play for QPR then good luck to whoever they sign for in the future, he said we only want players at the club who want to wear the QPR shirt.
That to me suggests strongly we have an option to buy Remy and Kinnear is playing it down like he will go back to them, but in reality we hold all the cards for his move to us, he needs to get as many brownie points as he can does Kinnear as he is on the bottom of the sea be at the moment, I personally do not believe anything that now comes out of the hiarachy at SJP after that last window especially.

Comment #53Yeah Ted it is pretty straightforward, because we are not setting the PL alight why bother ? When you have a few more years under your belt you may realise that life is not all sunny days. I sincerely hope that everything else in your life is just great.

We rarely have set the PL alight, but my enthusiasm didn’t waiver because I always felt we had authentic intentions of attempting to do so, maybe misguidedly sometimes, however messed up we were, , but now, the owner in all but an official decree, is saying “let’s just survive in the league, nothing more, until I can make my money back and move on, might take another 5 years before you’re shot of me and the club has any purpose again”. Sorry if supporting that with the same investment as the past doesn’t appeal to me.

Comment #57iggystinger, bills-son, tequila er al… I must say I err toward thinking that Llambias and Charnley could well have screwed up on Remy by not making sure that he was flown into to us, under escort!
But, the situation now is that as long as that oaf Kinnear’s involved, then the chances if us missing out on Remy it he’s free to move, must be greatly increased..
Fraid I wouldn’t send Joe to the shop for a bottle of milk, not even with the fight money and a note for the shopkeeper. He’d probably get lost on his way to the wrong shop!

Comment #59Lesh, yeah JFK is hardly a positive in the whole process but I reckon we are still in the driving seat. The big variable to me is whether or not Remy will go to trial over the rape allegation.
Nobody is in a position to draw any conclusions on that issue. If guilty he could score 20 a season for us and I would still want him banged up.

Comment #60So its Colo who is getting stick now – what a joke some fans are.
We win our second away game out of three so far and STILL some of you are knacking on about ‘it was only Cardiff’ ‘Colo isnt Prem standard’ ‘Pardew is sh1te’ ‘Willo is still rubbish’ blah, blah, blah.
This blog is becoming a graveyard for neggers.

Comment #61Ted, no offence but if you were a bit older you would see that the current owners aattitude is the norm rather than the exception. Being a supporter cuts a little deeper with me than how tight the owner is. If you think MA is bad then you are very lucky not to have experienced Westwood and McKeag.

Your “very poor team” beat man city, drew with Everton and lost to an injury time winner against spurs amongst other good results.
Lets give credit where it’s due.
