Newcastle were interested in 21 year-old Blackpool winger Tom Ince over the summer, but for whatever reason we didn’t get him to Tyneside, but since his contract runs out next summer, Newcastle may be able to land him at a cut price, and we all know Mike Ashley is always interested in a proposition like that.
Tom Ince – Newcastle still interested in this player
The report does say that Blackpool will want a token fee for the player in January, so maybe that’s why Newcastle didn’t move to sign him in the summer – that seems like a possibility.
His price is listed at around £4.5M, and that’s hardly a token price, but it’s less than the £8M that was mentioned in the summer.
And of course it could even be that Tom signs a new deal at Blackpool soon, and his father, Paul, the former Manchester United and England great now manages Blackpool.
The Mirror is reporting that Joe Kinnear believes Tom Ince would be a good signing for Newcastle, but to us he seems very similar in style to 21 year-old Sammy Ameobi, although he has a lot more experience and is a better goalscorer, and if he arrived in January, that could limit Sammy’s first team appearances.
Ince’s representative is Chris Nathaniel and this is what he told the Mirror:
“Thomas now feels he is ready for Premier League football on a regular basis – whether that comes in January or at the end of the season. He is grateful for the chance Blackpool have given him, but he now wants to step up a level.”
There’s no doubt Tom Ince is a good player, and he was great in the pre-season friendly against Newcastle in that second half, when he was hard to contain.
Tom has made 96 appearances with 30 goals, since joining the Tangerines from Liverpool just over two years ago.
But do we really need another winger at Newcastle, when we already have a number of them on board?
What do you think?
