If the papers are to be believed today, Newcastle want to sign Tom Ince of Blackpool in January, because he will become a free agent next summer and could be brought to Newcastle for a fee of around £4M in January, and Newcastle also want to bring Wilfried Zaha of Manchester United on loan in January.
Wilfried Zaha – former target wants to come to Newcastle
That’s if the papers are accurate, and we’d be surprised if Newcastle want both players.
And it seems odd that we are going after two wingers, which is hardly a weakness in the Newcastle side at the moment, and we’d be a lot happier if Newcastle were looking at a few defenders.
Zaha cost the Red Devils £15M from Crystal Palace in January, but Zaha stayed playing for Palace, who then the newly promoted London club wanted to take him on loan this season, but that didn’t work out.
The England U21 winger played in the Charity Shield, but that’s his only appearance for the Manchester first team this season, and he needs first team football to improve, just like our own youngsters do.
Newcastle have a huge advantage over Stoke, Southampton and Fulham, who are also willing to take the lad on loan, because Newcastle is his preferred choice.
A source to the Daily Star said this:
“The prospect of playing at Newcastle is the preferred one at present but it depends on United allowing a loan move to happen.”
So this isn’t a new story. but it puts Newcastle in a strange position because Zaha will need games – and that will almost definitely be a part of any loan deal – so our own youngsters will be pushed further down the pecking order.
It doesn’t seem like Newcastle have too much confidence in their younger players at the moment, and presumably they will be moved out on loan to lower league clubs.
What do you think?

Comment #3Ed, I actually think the papers don’t know anything of value mate 😉
…don’t pay attention to them; they are just attention seekers!
Anyway we may or may not have enough wingers depending on how you would describe a winger? It also depends on how you see us playing.
Personally I could find a fee players at our club that play in that position I would move on so both players are welcome 😉

Comment #9I said we should go for zaha a a couple of months ago! Anyone else think Ben arfa is on his way out come january?
Ed we are pretty weak on the left wing, could do with another striker, even if we sign Remy on a permanent deal.
And then a couple of CB

Comment #13Sharp…I don’t see Benny being on his way out, but if a new deal is not agreed soon who knows?
…and with the way we are playing and certain players wanting to go to the World Cup, I think we might have problems retaining the service of some players!
It is really heartbreaking watching us play at the moment (have actuaally missed most of our games this season or great part of it) Have been watching Swansea mostly this season!

Comment #14Come now, common sense would dictate that ANY club would have a number of ‘interests’ that are monitored over time. That doesn’t mean we are going to bid for every one.
I expect we may bid for Ince or Zaha in Jan IF the conditions are right (price, willingness if player) and IF they would be the biggest benefit to the club at that time.

Comment #17I would love Sammy Ameobi to fill his potential – he seems to be part of the England set up, so they see something in him too.
I just worry about his frame, he seems quite tall & thin, which makes him quite a leggy player. I do not know many wingers that have a frame like that, his thin frame and unorthodox style also reminds me of the younger Shola Ameobi. Shola was similar, but seemed to bulk out in his mid 20s, is that going to happen to Sammy too? I am worried that Sammy is not physically matched to be playing as a wide attacking player – normally players in that role have a lower centre of gravity, an acceleration of pace and run with the ball tight to their feet.
It may be unfair to compare to Sammy to Shola, but we will see. He has potential, so it goes without saying he gets our support.

Comment #18I’d not be too surprised to see us either losing Hatem next year, selling Jonas or Obertan or both, which would certainly leave us some room for wingers coming in. Personally I’d like to see Santon given a shot on the left with Dummett in behind him at fullback.
