Newcastle Ambition – Top Ten – But Only If We Play Well

There’s little doubt that Newcastle fans think that Mike Ashley just doesn’t have enough ambition for Newcastle, and the Billionaire seems to be unwilling to spend the money that is necessary to make Newcastle into what fans want –  a top side in England again – the last time being when Sir Bobby Robson managed the club, and before that when Kevin Keegan managed The Entertainers.

Mike Ashley – not enough ambition for Newcastle fans

Newcastle are currently in 11th place in the league table,  but our next four league games are tough ones against Liverpool (h), Sunderland (a), Chelsea (h) and Tottenham (a).

It’s going to be tough for Newcastle to retain that position after those four games, but certainly not impossible, and Yoan Gouffran, who has been in good form for Newcastle so far this season, thinks that if the team can play well, then we can still finish in the top ten at the end of the season.

This is what Yoan said in the local papers today:

“The start of the season was difficult because we lost 4-0 at City,” “Afterwards, we won some games. We also lost points against Hull City and Everton. “

“We played very badly.”  “But this season I think we can be in the top 10 if we play well.”

It probably gives some insight into what the Newcastle top brass are aiming for this season, that Yoan talks about finishing in the top ten as being something good, but that’s hardly ambitious – given that we finished 5th a year last May.

But once we have finished the game at Tottenham on November 10th, we should have a decent idea of how good a team we have this season, and if we can keep our top players fit, surely we have a chance to finish closer to the top six than just in the upper half of the table?

What do you think?

Chance of finishing closer to the top 6? I mean, really? Well we’ll just see what ambition we really have come the end of the season won’t we?

We already know what Ashley’s real ambition is. To stay in the Prem and collect lots of TV money. That’s it. How can anyone doubt that at this stage, in our 7th year now with this owner?

16th won’t do again for Ash because it’s too close to the relegation zone. But a nice 12th place finish with no real effort in the cups would be perfect in his eyes. Especially if he can manage to lay off some more club staff and save some more precious pennies.

The only way we’ll ever be a good team is by getting a good manager, and we’ll have to take a gamble on a young up and coming manager. If we wait for the likes of Martinez, Rodgers, Laundrup, Zola, Ince, etc to prove themselves at a higher level then they will go to a bigger club. We have to take the gamble like Sunderland have with Di Canio and Poyet. Or we can go for a manager who has silverware & steady mediocrity in the far past. One with a reliable CV showing he’s worked in premier league and maybe has a league cup. guys like Bruce, Hughes, Pardew & McClaren.
I’d sack Pardew (he can’t work with foreign players) and bring in Zola or Clark or someone from Spain/ Germany.

And watch another manager put up with mediocre investment and lying to the fans time and time again. Pardew is perfect for Ashley, he does what MA tells him, when MA tells him to do it. Pardew is a willing collaborator of course, but he is not the main problem.

Spot on Ciaran and John Tudor. The man is just in it for the money he can make. He will keep us in limbo as long as he can with a mediocre manager and a clown for a DoF. His pockets will begin to fill fast now as the TV money is huge.

Spot on the next Mike Willo @7. I’ve been saying the same. Sack Pardew and hire a decent manager at the very least Ashley. I’ll continue to say that Pardew isn’t good enough until he proves me wrong. In which case I’ll happily eat my words and enjoy a winning club.

The main culprit is Ashley as you say Ciaran. He wants as much money as he can get from the club for the least output. He doesn’t understand football at all as even Pardew has said. It’s a no win situation. And if he can put a few more of the club staff on the dole it would suit him perfectly.

I would argue that if we play good entertaining football in the next few weeks against Liverpool, the mackems, Chelsea and Spurs then it will show we are a decent club with the right manager. If we get whacked in 3 or all 4 of those games we will be back to arguing about what to do about it. But that stands to reason doesn’t it?

John Tudor, Mike Ashley will continue to take money out of the club, correct, but it will be to pay of his loan, which is fair enough, the rest of the money in the club will then be used to purchase players that’s if we make more profits than his loan repayments, I would say we will but enough to get in the top six at any stage that is very unlikely at this moment in time imo.

I will say his free advertising of Sports Direct is incredible bad craic, his impulsiveness is a big danger to us as a club and us a s fans, maybe a gamble for MA but hes putting our feelings and emotions in a tumble dryer time after time.

The new away fans initiative is a great idea if we can get more clubs involved, and the best news for a while.

But the free advertising is out of order beyond belief.

AP has had 3 season to prove his worth and he’s worthless i agree with you all about bringing in a young manager, this is where stability is.

the sooner Pardew gets out the better, we have top players in our team though there’s only 1 person who controls them and is also a major weak link.

and for those on this blog stating to give him another chance should hang your heads in shame, by the end of this season i predict 3rd bottom ( in relegation zone ) or 4th bottom

what do you like in pardew, what are the qualities that some of us are missing

can you gave me 2 footballing reasons why he is doing well with what he has

I don’t want anything about him having his hands tied by Ashley, I want footballing reasons
    coaching
    team management
treatment of the kids and senior players for that matter
    statements
    tactics and subs

there are 5 areas to pick 2 things he is good at

    please try

I would also love to know where this comes from, our fans think we should be competing against the top 4 ,

now I don’t know one fan that thinks that way, I know thousands that think we should not be competing against the likes of Cardiff Norwich hull and a few other teams yet that is who pardew puts us against , the man is deluded
even without many signings this summer , we have a top 8 team , just it’s not being used right

at the end of the day MA isn’t gonna change, he’s cheap and so is his business.

ppl say MA is a very good businessman because of his SD empire BOLLOX, he’s nothing than a slave trader that them poor Tibetan ppl keep his empire running for pennies a week.

any billionaire & millionaire would see a big opportunity to take a massive club like Newcastle and wake the sleeping giants.

also imo i think MA makes a sh!t loads of money from Newcastle than we are led to believe

Lesh, how far does Pardew have to decline the team before you’ll be sick of him like a lot of us?

Is it being hammered at home 0-6 against Liverpool, 0-3 against Sunderland, 1-2 against Reading at home or this year with a fully fit team (no injury excuses) and still losing at home to Hull? No? Dreadful cohesion and movement? No? I shudder to think what else you’d let slide before wanting rid of the con-man.

No good saying sheep to us who want some more ambition, when you are getting sucked in by his weekly lies and misdirection and somehow supporting his blundering management. Thank Swansea and Bosingwa’s care-free attitude for an already relegated team for our Premier League status, not Pardew, he merely took us to the brink.

He wasn’t good enough when he came in and he’s not good enough now.

    Newcastle stadium capacity is 52,404
tickets prices on average about £36 more or less over a season
    £36 x 52,404 = over 180 million a season and that’s not including box tickets

Pardew is just a small fraction of much bigger problems at NUFC.

Clear direction and ambition is what is needed at the club along with a proper premier league recruitment strategy. Building every summer and not in January is the way forward as this gives us the best chance of competing over the course of a full season.

We have to spend to compete, our first eleven is overhyped and the second eleven would struggle to get gametime in the Championship.

We are a midtable mediocre outfit nothing else. Pardew will achieve that for MA, that is all that is expected of him. A vicious cylce of mediocrity is all it is. Another manager would just have to compete against the same problems with this regime.

Back to same old arguments… Guys, Ashley doesn’t coach the team, THINK about it. Let’s see how we are doing after 10 games. If AP still hasn’t steadied the ship, then he should be fired. We need stability and this team is anything but. We can lose from anyone (e.g. even Morecambe gave us a good game) and beat anyone. It’s nuts!

But I guess that’s what NUFC is about so maybe we deserve AP…
