We could see Alan Pardew make some surprise selections for the starting eleven for the game against Liverpool tomorrow afternoon, even though we had thought that because of the excellent showing last time out at Cardiff, the Newcastle manager would essentially play the same side, and bring somebody in to replace the injured Coloccini.
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa – will play tomorrow against Liverpool
And in our poll earlier this week we asked who between Steven Taylor and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa should come in to replace the captain, and at the moment a majority of fans favor local lad Steven Taylor.
But Alan Pardew said yesterday in his press conference that Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa would play because of his speed and movement, and that’s in an attempt to try to quell the double threat of Liverpool’s Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.
So the central defense pairing could by Williamson and Yanga-Mbiwa, but Pardew could also play Steven Taylor and Yanga-Mbiwa together, because Steven Taylor has a little more movement than Mike Williamson.
That’s a possibility, but it would be very tough on Mike Williamson who has looked very solid over the last one and a half games, since he was introduced at the start of the second half at Everton.
The other surprise could be a starting place for Ben Arfa, and the Newcastle manager went out of his way yesterday to praise the mercurial winger, and he had this to say in his press conference about the 26 year-old:
“Ben Arfa has trained well this week, and I am very pleased with his attitude and application.”
So it’s certainly possible that Ben Arfa could get a start tomorrow, and it would probably be at the expense of Papiss Cisse, since both Loic Remy and Yoan Gouffran are both in top form at the moment.
What do you think?
