An update on my health situation - we have terminated the PluVicto treatment halfway through, because of the severity of the side effects - diarrhea, vomiting, and acid reflux.
And there was no evidence the treatment was having any positive effect in stopping the prostate cancer from spreading in the bones.
There are no treatments left for me to go on.I will go into home hospice care now and will have a hospice nurse visit me at home regularly to ensure I am as comfortable as possible and we will treat the side effects of the treatments I have had.
It's down the final stretch now, and I have run out of treatments, and nature will now take its course.
I hope Newcastle can get many wins this season from now on, and I am at peace with all of this.
Thanks for all your help through the years - it's very much appreciated

Comment #81bills-son @ 34 as usual you are totally wrong Ashley paid off structured debt and as a result had to still pay all the interest on the money, some sites were reporting it recently the only reason he paid the debts is he does not like debt, an honorable thing for a business man to do.

It’s incredible seeing the disillusionment and seeing how it has manifested itself in two completely contrary ways. Some are so disillusioned they are taking action. Others are so disillusioned that they feel crushed and beaten and that they cannot take on Ashley as he is some omnipotent being who is bigger and better than us. It’s this apathy that will lengthen, not shorten Ashley’s stay at the club.
People say “Ashley won’t sell until he wants to sell”, my question would be – how do you know? Have you asked him? Has he released a statement saying anything of the sort?
The fans of this great club, in this great city, need to realise that they have more power than they think. Just need to find and channel it. Nothing like standing side by side with your fellow fans to help you find that strength.

Correct, the interest was still paid just upfront.
Banks don’t let you get away with interest charges by paying back early. The bank doesn’t desperately need that money back so why would they let you pay it back quickly and miss out on the interest…seeing as the interest is their profit and the reason for lending in the first place.

For me Ashley’s biggest fault isn’t not spending enough but running the club poorly.
For example, missing cat 1 status on the academy which won’t help future kids, not buying at the rights times to kick on, not having a goal (eg Swansea have a system they want to use and hire people at all levels of the club to match this, we play different ways trough out all levels and don’t but the players to suit coaches or don’t get coaches to suit the players).
Everything seems to be poorly thought out or not thought out at all, he wouldn’t do that with sports direct, every decision he makes there is for the companies best interest.

That’s the crux of the problem. We have no identity on the field, and no ambition off the field.
Ashley wants to use Newcastle United as a vehicle to promote Sports Direct. Compare the growth of Sports Direct and the stagnation of Newcastle United in his 6 years as owner of our club. Our brand is much more positive his tacky sweatshop, so he piggy backs on a positive brand – NUFC – for the best interests of his own brand – Sports Direct.
Solano said it spot on. While there may not be a crisis at the club, there is a disease that is eating away at what is positive about this club.

I don’t mind sports direct getting a ride on Newcastle United if it benefits both parties. If Ashley decided to sort himself out the free advertising wouldn’t bother me at all.
One appointment could turn Ashley around in my eyes and that would be a high level technical director. Like spurs did with Franco Baldini (think he’s the guy). Him and Levy set the tone for spurs. They decide a plan for the long term and indentify how to achieve it. Then hire the right coaches, sign the right players and get the right structure in place.

Comment #88What is true worth of the Sports Direct advertising at SJP. I’m afraid we’ll probably never get to know -although I think it is probably true that as far as the club goes advertising will involve lesser amounts than corporate sponsor ships.
As far as what is the advertising worth to Sports Direct -again we’ll probably never know. However, when it was reported some time ago, when El Gourdo bought the club, that the reasons were to promote SD, I don’t think that there can be much argument that the “free advertising” has benefited Sports Direct. Their profits went up last year by 20+%. They are opening up new shops all over the world -buying out/killing off the opposition as they do so -the firm is expanding rapidly.
Around the world Premier League football was watched on TV last year by 3.9 billion people, 1.24 billion of them in Asia alone. (they’ve got a couple of shops in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia ). We see a progression of aggressive buy outs of other firms and re-investing in further buy outs/purchases.
When you check out the Sports Direct football shirts pages – you do not see Toon shirts promoted but Man United and Liverpool shirts. There may be more interest in those teams shirts -but my take is that Ashley is no Toon supporter – but a supporter of his “clothing business interests”.
I think it could reasonably be argued that the “free advertising” at SJP has massively assisted the progress of SD but not Newcastle United.

Comment #89Solano- On your reading of the success of the march and apparent desire for some agreement on your conclusions. I suggest the journalists were just being polite because they were bemused by what the purpose was! I was just plain pleased it didn’t cause embarrassment to the toon and football club and detract from what was a suburb performance – probably our best this season.
You can’t rate what you don’t get Solano. And I think this ” not getting the objectives ” in truth , is the reason it evokes so much ire in those who can’t see what all the fuss is about. There are many things I don’t get – but I don’t get excited about them either, you do, it seems ?
As for making the case why don’t you get involved you have the passion and vision to get right minded fans on board. Those fans I know who thought it might be a good idea were quickly dissuaded by those who were just too full of themselves and not with a vision of how change could be achieved . A few wise old heads are called for rather than so many young kids who just can’t articulate the message to win the hearts and minds. In 2008 the main reason it was concluded for failure was that there were far to many competing ego’s

You can certainly say sports direct has massively increased it’s size over the past 6/7 years, how much of that is through the association and advertising Newcastle brings I’m not sure and think it would be impossible to quantify. It being cheaper than others and a world wide recession has also propelled it massively as it’s still in budget for most people on more limited incomes.
I don’t begrudge sports direct, it’s separate to Newcastle as far as I see it. My concern is with the running of our club and long term ambitions/plans which I can’t see linking up well

The thing is a protest or any action by fans (with the exception of raising the money for a buy out themselves) can only do so much.
Even if 200,000 turned up and protested every week it couldn’t make Ashley sell. All they can do is show displeasure and try to get more dialogue going between the two sides (and not the rubbish scripted answers we get at fans meetings now where difficult questions are passed over).
The most effective way would be a boycott which would cost the club around 30mil a season if no fans turned up at all. However as fans people don’t want to do that as it hurts the team and as much as some want Ashley gone they all want the team to succeed far more than they want him out.
So for an initial march I think it went well. Achieved local and national coverage as well as international coverage on tv stations broadcasting the game which is a good start.
