Alan Pardew has held his press conference this afternoon, for the Manchester City game tomorrow night, and there is bad news on the injury front as both Steven Taylor and Fab Coloccini will not be fit, and are also unlikely to be fit for the tough game against Chelsea on Saturday.
Alan Pardew – disappointed we didn’t win the game
Obviously Alan was asked about the second successive derby defeat against Sunderland on Sunday, and he again thought the Newcastle side played quite well on the day:
“It wasn’t extreme in terms of performance.” “I disagree with that.” “It was a rejuvenated Sunderland.” “But we should have won the game.” “The disappointment is that we didn’t.”
The question for Alan Pardew is why wasn’t it a rejuvenated Newcastle side on Sunday?
And there is always an over-reaction to any result on Tyneside, be it good or bad, and that’s especially true for the local derby game, where all that matters is the result.
And we agree with Alan the team played well in the second half, after not turning up for the first 20 minutes of the game, and therefore going a goal down after only 5 minutes.
But the over-reaction is to the result, another defeat against a Sunderland side who had one point from their first eight games – and it’s not too surprising there has been the over-reaction.
And the Newcastle manager said he was looking forward to the match with Manchester City tomorrow night:
“It is a good game.” “It is difficult, but when you have the best players in Europe coming to you, you want to impress.” “We have two games I feel we can win.” “Man City have been a problem team for us.” “We haven’t done very well against them.” “We have to look at how we can improve on them tomorrow.”
In reality it’s going to be very difficult for our lads to get a result in either of the two upcoming two games this week, but hey, we are willing to be surprised, on the upside.
Comments welcome.

I know you have gone, but just update.
As i said there is some bad PR, just things like this aren’t that bad. He banned the paper not as it’s bad PR, but just to show his power over the local paper who normally eat out of his hand.
As I said, sports direct has received a lot more damaging stories than this and they continue to grow, this will make no difference.

Comment #5There is no doubt that we CAN beat City & Chelsea – but we wont.
The club has NO interest in the cups as winning one (God forbid) would put us in Europe and we are not geared up to play Thursday & Sunday. Lambsarse and Pardew have both stated this although Pardew later altered his wording to claim Mike didnt think a cup win was in our interests, but he, as Manager was looking forward to a cup run and would go all out for it.
We will see who gets his way on this one!!!

And thats where we fall down mate, we did it last season and we are doing the exact same thing this time round. Beating City in the league cup is worth nothing after being beaten by the team that was bottom of the league.
the first half at Everton and the second half against Hull are two of the most disgusting displays I’ve ever seen from this club

Comment #7Newspaper Ban – NUST Statement
The NUST Board were shocked and surprised to learn that the Journal, Chronicle and Sunday Sun have been banned by Mike Ashley. The local media plays a vital role in the flow of information between the football club and it’s supporters, with the club having many avenues such as the match day programme, official website and social media to respond to any perceived injustice it feels, without the draconian and negative decision for all parties, of bullying the local press.
In a recently televised interview, the Newcastle United manager, Alan Pardew, in a rare moment of openness said ,in addition to Mike Ashley not understanding the football business, that “When he (Ashley) is upset he does things that aren’t brilliant for the football club.”
Unfortunately, we have found yet another example where Mike Ashley has got upset, the local newspapers having the temerity of reporting on a march by supporters who aren’t happy with the running of the football club by Ashley.
This episode is yet another in a long line of embarrassing incidents that the football club and its supporters have had to suffer, thanks to a remote owner who runs Newcastle United with only lip service to the idea of a properly functioning board and management team.
Until the football club have an ownership structure that endeavours to work constructively with all parts of the local community, including the media and especially the supporters, Newcastle United appears doomed to continue in this day to day existence of moving from one ‘own goal’ to the next. A long-term plan built around an all-inclusive structure is the only way the club will ever stand a chance of achieving the potential we all know Newcastle United has in abundance.
NUST BOARD
If you aren’t already a member of NUST please take a minute to consider joining us, every extra person makes a difference by adding their support to the cause of the fans of Newcastle United. Together we’ll all one day help to create the Newcastle United we all dream.

Comment #12Following the club’s latest own goal I have written to the club via the Contact Us section on their website copy below.
Sorry for such a long post but as this is my first post in over 2 years (although I follow the blog everyday) I hope you will allow me some latitude.
I have become increasingly tired of the sniping and calling that has increased this and last season which apart from restating entrenched views does nothing to advance the arguement. I often skip some bloggers posts for this reason. No doubt others will do the same to this but hey ho.
My view is a simple one based on what seem to be only a few viable options anyway
viz
Ashley sells up to someone who can take us forward
He sells up to someone who can’t or won’t
He stays for the forseeable future
None of these outcomes are able to be affected by us fans without some unacceptable protests which may do as much damage to the club i.e. not turning up to as many games as needed until Owner capitulates. I do not want to enter into conversation on this as it would be redundant to do so as I think we all know that the majority of season ticket holders will not take this draconian step – nor would I have when I had mine.
After supporting this club through thick and mostly thin for nearly 50 years I long ago reluctantly came to the inevitable conclusion that I and other fans could not directly change the ownership of the club until they are good and ready to go. This invariably means when they receive an offer that is acceptable at that time as we fans whilst backing the opposition against the current owners can do nothing to influence one being made.
If we accept that, then that is not to say we have to simply sit back and support uncomplainingly. We need to strive to engage in whatever forums the club participates in and for example bombard their website etc with coherent views and not simply of the “get out of my club” variety which whilst making you feel better are simply ignored. Repeated coherently argued emails to their sites will have some effect if only to cause backlogs.
Other posters may have better knowledge of how to actively engage with the club but my simple view is we have to start a dialogue not a row as to how the club can continuingly and consistently move forward. This is so even when Ashley’s stance seems to be wait until a suitable offer arrives but in the meantime do little more than keep the club ticking over. I do not believe it is possible to bully him out of the club whilst there is no viable offer which means he gets his money and what he feels is a reasonable profit from the sale. Would you? – as I certainly wouldn’t!!
He went down the sale route last time we were relegated and couldn’t get an acceptable offer. Anyone who believes any owner would sell at his disadvantage even if he loved the club is naive.
As for Time4change I am not sure of wha they actually want to happen but I can only paraphrase an old protest song which Ed and others of my generation will recall
“marches alone won’t bring change”
Please put all our energies into what can be achieved not raging against those with opposite or less strident views.
By the way Mike doesn’t read this blog.
Email to NUFC.CO.UK
I note with amazement the Board’s reaction to the Evening Chronicle’s coverage of the recent fan’s march through Newcastle City Centre. Having called the newspaper’s coverage “disproportionate” they then proceed to ban all three titles indefinately and without seeking to engage in any discussion. What is proportionate about that? It is another media “own goal” and makes the club yet again a laughing stock. I do not support the march’s agenda but would love to see some tangible progress in the club’s owner’s dealing with fans. The current attempts at meeting with fans seems too agenda led by the club.
I applaud Mr Ashley’s efforts to bring some financial stability to the club but am regularly made incredulous as a fan of nearly 50 years at the crazy decisions on football and media matters. Other owners of this club have made mistakes (and money) from this club but Mr Ashley has regularly surpassed all of them at least in terms of mistakes.
Most fans have realistic views on the immediate potential of the club but feel let down by the lack of clear communication and sign of genuine ambition from the club. I accept Mr Ashley does not want to be involved in the day to day running of the Football Club and so appoints people to do so. If his judgement on his cuurent (and previous) appointments were reflected in his Sports Direct appointments then he wouild not have as successful a business as he enjoys amd may even be in administration.
I do not believe for a second that Mr Ashley is seeking to punish the fans but as an astute businessman surely he can see that as the custodian( as well as current owner) of this historic club that he needs to engage on a surer footing by a proxy if he wishes ( Chris Mort did so very well a few years ago) than happens now. He has an asset which is underperforming and whilst we can’t financially compete with the Manchester clubs, Chelsea etc. Surely we can do better than the so called “smaller clubs” like Southampton, Swansea etc. who show a better understanding of the current state of the Premier League and show us the way forward.
I also acknowledge that he genuinely wanted to sell the club following relegation (when he admitted he had made mistakes) but couldn’t then or now find a realistic buyer. However is the only way forward whilst he awaits a suitable offer to let the club stagnate by an unambitious “keep our heads above the relegation waters” approach in the transfer market.
Can Mr Ashley state his intentions and ambitions for “our club” if necessary through the Sports Direct News channels if he doesn’t trust the press. Where are we on his original 5 year plan and what do the next 5 years hold? Please not more of the mediocre servings we have suffered so far and frankly do not deserve.
Surely it is in everyone’s interests Owner, Board, Management, Coaches, Press Officer ‘s Players and not least us long suffering fans for a new partnership and understanding to arise between us all to ensure this club can be all it can be and not a shadow of one.
It can only be started if not finished by you Mr Ashley .

Do energy companies, legal firms, car makers, even small businesses spend billions across the globe on PR in case they are accused of genocide?
You seem to be arguing the SPORTS DIRECT owner Mike Ashley is so sublimely untouchable that he just laughs everything off.
Within the last year he has tried to stamp down on national and local newspapers over coverage of both himself and Newcastle United.
This suggest that he is, in fact, hypersensitive to any form of criticism.
How can you claim that banning the Newcastle newspapers ACTUALLY proves that he is totally indifferent to their opinions?

Comment #17Wolfs @ 8 – Good God, mate, that would never do.
But, like banning the press, a comprehensive meeting would take place involving those concerned with team matters; free ranging discussions would be held and decisions in the best interests of the club would be reached.
We would then concentrate our efforts to finish in the top 10 of the Premier League, being comensurate with us not being able to compete with those at the very top!!

Sacking Ppardew is a must but going for another over rated Brit manager is a step back. O’Neill got found out managing his boyhood team.
He did well in Scotland, so could my nan !! Solksjaer or bergkamp are eminently gettable but ash has probably never heard of them and jfk would scare them off. job done for ash.
The funny and ironic thing is I think Ash would like us to play KK type exciting football but getting Pardew to do that is a hell of a stretch.

Comment #23magscar – only problem with using Sports Direct News as you suggest is that most folk on planet earth believe that Sports Direct News lie to the public – as evidenced by the recent story about Wayne Rooney. Sports Direct later had to withdraw the story and admitted it was false. We never ever found out who “planted” the story, who wrote it or who authorised it. Equally we do not know what sanctions were taken against those responsible – or indeed why such a mischievous story was even thought about in the first place.

I think it’s something we need to get through to come out the other side. It’s going to happen. Bring it on. Appointing JFK is one day nearer to JFK leaving due to health reasons, player mutiny or whatever.
At the moment JFK is the elephant in the room. Let him balls it up and he might finally take his odious, foul mouthed persona out of the building or be forced to.
To not get rid of Pardew just because there may be someone even worse and more out of touch and mediocre is not a healthy state to be in. That’s just settling for same old, same old with a fear that may never actually materialise.

Comment #34Well if we lose the next 5 games then surely Ashley must sack Pardew, I don’t buy the no better manager will come line, there are a number of top up and coming managers out there
Paulo Bento for one, Vincenzo Montella, Viktor Goncharenko, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and more who are all young managers who play an attacking style and have turned mediocre teams into good teams rather than pardews style of turning a good team into a mediocre one.
I’m sure they wouldn’t be that expensive and Ashley could load their wages with bonus incentives

The Trust is non-proft making organisation with the stated aim of raising enough cash for fans to buy a share in the club. They have elected officials and stuff and have established lines of communication with the club.
Time4Change is very recently formed with a view to getting the owner to shape up or ship out. Well, shape up with a view to shipping out.
The Trust were consulted by Time4Change over the march I think, and endorsed it. They are in a kind of shifting alliance on an issue by issue basis, but they are not a coalition. It is early days for Time4Change.

I see your point on Sports Direct News but what I was aiming at was for Ashley to just comunicate with us if necessary through a media source/channel he trusted and which wouldn’t manipulate or edit what he was trying to say.
Surely he could trust his own internet news outlet or is it that far out of control !
