Alan Pardew – We Can Win The Next Two Games

Alan Pardew has held his press conference this afternoon, for the Manchester City game tomorrow night, and there is bad news on the injury front as both Steven Taylor and Fab Coloccini will not be fit, and are also unlikely to be fit for the tough game against Chelsea on Saturday.

Alan Pardew – disappointed we didn’t win the game

Obviously Alan was asked about the second successive derby defeat against Sunderland on Sunday, and he again thought the Newcastle side played quite well on the day:

“It wasn’t extreme in terms of performance.” “I disagree with that.” “It was a rejuvenated Sunderland.” “But we should have won the game.” “The disappointment is that we didn’t.”

The question for Alan Pardew is why wasn’t it a rejuvenated Newcastle side on Sunday?

And there is always an over-reaction to any result on Tyneside, be it good or bad, and that’s especially true for the local derby game, where all that matters is the result.

And we agree with Alan the team played well in the second half, after not turning up for the first 20 minutes of the game, and therefore going a goal down after only 5 minutes.

But the over-reaction is to the result, another defeat against a Sunderland side who had one point from their first eight games –  and it’s not too surprising there has been the over-reaction.

And the Newcastle manager said he was looking forward to the match with Manchester City tomorrow night:

“It is a good game.”  “It is difficult, but when you have the best players in Europe coming to you, you want to impress.”  “We have two games I feel we can win.”  “Man City have been a problem team for us.”  “We haven’t done very well against them.”  “We have to look at how we can improve on them tomorrow.”

In reality it’s going to be very difficult for our lads to get a result in either of the two upcoming two games this week, but hey, we are willing to be surprised, on the upside.

Comments welcome.
