Alan Pardew has made 5 changes from the side that lost 2-1 at Sunderland on Sunday and in comes 20 year-old French U21 International Massadio Haidara for his first game of the season, and Shola Ameobi and Papiss Cisse also start up front in a 4-4-2 formation.
As expected Vurnon Anita is recalled in a middle four that consists also of captain Cheick Tiote, Moussa Sissoko and Yoan Gouffran.
Yanga-Mbiwa gets another chance in central defense alongside Mike Williamson, and Tim Krul is again in goal.
If Newcastle are going to get through this game then we’ll have to start with a lot more passion and energy than we started the last game at Sunderland, otherwise this contest could be over rather early.
The Newcastle bench is quite strong – Rob Elliot, Paul Dummett, Yohan Cabaye, Gabriel Obertan, Sammy Ameobi, Hatem Ben Arfa and Loic Remy.
For Manchester City 6’8″ Romanian Costel Pantilimon is in goal, replacing England goalkeeper Joe Hart, but he also played in the last round of the Capital One Cup.
There’s some debate as to whether Joe Hart will be dropped for the next game, after his terrible blunder that gifted all 3 points to Chelsea on Sunday.
Teams:
Newcastle United (4-4-2): Tim Krul; Mathieu Debuchy, Mike Williamson, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Massadio Haidara; Moussa Sissoko, Cheick Tiote (c), Vurnon Anita, Yoan Gouffran; Shola Ameobi, Papiss Cisse
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Paul Dummett, Yohan Cabaye, Gabriel Obertan, Sammy Ameobi, Hatem Ben Arfa, Loic Remy
Manchester City – Pantilimon, Richards, Boyata, Lescott, Kolarov, Rodwell, Garcia, Navas, Milner, Jovetic, Dzeko
Substitutes: tba
Referee: Neil Swarbrick (Lancashire)

Comment #5Its official, Marveaux has no future here under Pardew despite being one of our most technically gifted players.
Pardew has to go.

The Wooly Song!
Ibiza told GT about a thing he saw.
Had two big horns and a wooly jaw.
Wooly Wooly, wooly wooly.
Wooly wooly, wooly wooly, wooly wooly.
Ibiza told GT: “Let’s don’t take no chance.
Let’s not be *L-seven*, come and learn to dance.”
Wooly wooly, wooly wooly.
Wooly wooly, wooly wooly, wooly wooly.
Ibiza told GT: “That’s the thing to do.
Get you someone really to pull the wool with you.”
Wooly wooly, wooly wooly.

Sissoko and wing should not be in the same sentence.

Comment #21Let me show you the thought process of the one, the only, Alan Pardew :
Pardew – “Hmmmmmm, we aren’t scoring many goals lately and we very rarely get in the box or open teams” up.
Marveaux – Hey Alan, just letting you know I got the most assists last year and have a good understanding with Cisse (who can’t buy a goal lately) and am fit & raring to go” .
Pardew – “Ah, Sylvain . We was thinking about playing you but you are not even in the team sorry” .
I honestly think a trained chimp could do a better job than Pardew .

every single week I look at teams I think it just shows more and more signs that this team is fcuked because it simply has got no wingers at all.
the reason
1 HBA so fcuken greedy never creates much
2 obatan rubbish
3sammy probably been destroyed by pardew like the rest of them.
4 marvo I don’t have a clue where he is
5 Jonas finished now

Comment #36repost for the benefit of Ibiza
Ibiza, I honestly think Mash could advertise SD more efficiently than by owning a football club in order to do it.
I think he wants to be a successful club owner but he is also an arrogant f$%& who is going to do things his way.
I have said this before, he has made loads of mistakes (big ones) but no one can accuse him of not taking action.
I believe he sees it as a business but one he thought would be “fun” and one he wants to be successful – which means on and off the field (with the caveat of existing in a Chelsea and Man City world).
He has done a lot of good as well as bad. On balance, I prefer him to Shepherd, the Halls and McKeag regardless of whether those f%^&$% were “real” fans or not. I actually think in many respects it is better that someone who is not as emotionally invested is in charge of the club.
Back to my original point though…
There will always be good and bad things to talk about – how good this player turned out to be, how bad another is, a manager that should be sacked etc. These are short terms talking points.
At the end of the day, all I want is that the toon are playing in the top league and giving a decent account of themselves and trying to move forward. For the most part this is the case.
The squad is decent with mostly players with a positive attitude. As I say I think we nreally need to look at the manager as he is mediocre at best.
It saddens me that people would be so downbeat about stuff they have no control over and if only they were a little more philosophical about it all…
