Pardew Full Of Praise For French Defender

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has had his good games for Newcastle and his bad games, and of course against Liverpool his sending off just before half time changed the game, but he has served his one match ban and came back last night and had a very good game against Manchester City.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa – had a good games last night

And the Newcastle manager held his press conference today for the Chelsea game, even though we had just played the night before, and he had this to say about the French International defender:

“We are pretty stretched going for Chelsea, but we have four senior players who are actually playing very well at the moment, our back four, and I thought Mapou had a terrific game last night.”

“And I think when you look at  center haves who have come from a foreign field,  from a foreign league, it takes a while to settle in the Premier League, and Arsenal Liverpool have had that problem themselves.”

“And I think Mapou is getting to grips with it, and last night was his best performance, and I think that bodes well for Chelsea, because you need to defend very well against a Blues team who are in great form at the minute.”

We had thought it may be difficult for Mapou to make it at center-back in the Premier League, but maybe we are wrong on that, because he looked strong and steady last night.

He has speed, movement and determination, and of course if he can come to grips with the Premier League he’s likely to play a lot of games for Newcastle, since he can play anywhere across the back four, and has already played in every one of the back four positions for Newcastle.

Obviously we hope Mapou can come through big time, but he has to be consistent, and the Chelsea game will be another test for the 24 year-old.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

In 90 minutes he was our second best player yesterday, its only tiotes monsterous display that stops him being my man of the match.

I fear for him against physical strikers but he was top notch yesterday.

If he can keep it up, and Tiote remaining at his very best we should stop leaking goals.

Cost a few bob and has an impressive pedigree, captaining Ligue 1 winning Montpellier and playing in France national team but he’s only 24 and we need to remind ourselves of that.
