Newcastle are thought to be interested in bringing in a striker in January, and now with the top tax rate in France at 75%, and President François Hollande refusing yesterday to exempt professional footballers from the top income tax, maybe summer target Bafe Gomis will be very interested in joining Newcastle in January.
Bafe Gomis – more interested in leaving France now?
But it seems that the high taxes – for those earning more than €1M a year – will actually be paid by the football clubs in France, and they have voted not to play any matches from November 29. to December 2 – as a protest of this decision.
The French clubs are saying it is unfair that they should be given the burden of paying the extra taxes, and Lille President Michel Seydoux, has even said that French football is in danger because of this.
But whoever pays the taxes it would seem the new 75% tax will only force France’s best players to play their football elsewhere, and a lot of them already do that.
It will now be interesting to see if Bafe Gomis ends up on Tyneside in January, since he will be available for around £4M (or less) and that’s less than half of what Lyon wanted for him last summer.
But there again, Newcastle probably have enough French players already in the squad, and may turn elsewhere for an additional striker in January.
That’s always assuming that Mike Ashley will make funds available to Joe Kinnear and Alan Pardew in January.
What do you think?

I think that’s more to do with Ashley not wanting a different man as Pardew ticks every box for him.

Comment #60Again we need consistency in attack. Stop moving Ben Arfa around. Get him up the pitch. Teams are trapping him with 2 and even 3 players now. Look at the Sunderland game as an example. Our movement without the ball was poor for much of the game. The 3 or 4 players around the ball carrier standing still. No space being generated in attack. How can you put defenders back on their heels or turn them like that. Ridiculous. What was the plan in attack? I didn’t see one.

Comment #62Chelsea move the ball very quickly from defense to attack. They will come at us hard tomorrow. We need possession and composure on the ball. A lot of running will be required. Anything like the Sunderland game and we’ll get hammered. A lot will depend on Colo (I hope), Tiote, Cabaye, and Remy who should be the spine of the team along with Krul. Our fullbacks will have to be very careful if they push forward as Santon in particular gets caught out too often.

That’s my biggest whinge, the movement off the ball is truly appalling and why we never score the sort of goals city got the other night. It’s like pardew has never heard of pass and move and has no drills in his repertoire regarding this..

Spot on. We’re doing it to ourselves
Supporting the team effectively means supporting the regime. Blind faith is what Ashley counts on, ie bums on seats.
A couple of home matches with a half empty stadium is the only thing that will concentrate his mind. Short term pain for long term gain, but the fans won’t do it so can’t really complain when nothing changes.

Comment #68Sadly I don’t think Cisse will even start the game JT. His play has been very poor. He looked lost coming on against Sunderland. His shot has deserted him. I would play 4-3-1-2 and go with Remy and Gouffy up front with Benny in behind. It won’t happen though. Pardew will probably pretend to play 4-3-3 which will actually be 4-5-1 as we fall back and defend for our lives (unsuccessfully in all probability).

Comment #71To be honest I think a lot of us actually think our players are better than they are – if we put the whole squad up for sale right now our biggest sale would probably be Cabaye and given that we only had one bid at 10 – 12 million I imagine the rest would go for…
Even from the massively over inflated figures Transfer Market site gives, the whole first team against Man City are only worth 114 million euros
Krul, Tim Goalkeeper (GK), 25 Years 8.500.000 €
Mike Williamson Defence (CB), 29 Years
3.000.000 €
–
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa Defence (CB), 24 Years
9.000.000 €
–
Davide Santon Defence (LB), 22 Years
10.000.000 €
Mathieu Debuchy Defence (RB), 28 Years
10.000.000 €
–
Vurnon Anita Midfield (DM), 24 Years
6.500.000 €
–
Yohan Cabaye Midfield (CM), 27 Years
16.000.000 €
–
Moussa Sissoko Midfield (CM), 24 Years
12.000.000 €
–
Cheik Tioté Midfield (CM), 27 Years
10.000.000 €
Hatem Ben Arfa Midfield (RW), 26 Years
13.500.000 €
Papiss Demba Cissé Striker (CF), 28 Years
14.500.000 €
Yoan Gouffran Striker (CF), 27 Years
7.500.000 €
Shola Ameobi Striker (CF), 32 Years
2.000.000
So we’d probably be lucky to get 60 – 65 million for the whole 1st team and thats if we could even sell some of em

I don’t think it’s because of the French lads that we are too static, it’s down the the fact we have no leaders out on the pitch, no one vocal who drives the players on and we are still carrying to many players who are out of form as the manager simply will not drop them
