Newcastle Transfer Target Unsettled In Holland

Newcastle have been linked with PSV Eindhoven striker Ola Toivonen as a potential target in the January transfer window, and since Ola’s contract runs out in June, he would be available at a cut price fee, thought to be about £2.5M.

Ola Toivonen – unsettled

This is not the first time Ola has been linked with Newcastle, and we know owner Mike Ashley is always interested in doing a good deal for a good player.

PSV are in the position where they can sell the player in the January window for a reduced transfer fee, or lose him for nothing in the summer, and the news is that they are willing to sell in January, and would like to get at least £2.5M for the 35 times capped Swedish International.

The  27-year-old was asked about a potential move in January, and this is what he said today in the Daily Star:

“I haven’t heard anything, it is my agent who takes care of that,”   “Nothing new has happened.”

Toivonen is not particularly in good goal scoring form this season and in 17 total appearances he has only one goal, although in his time at PSV he has 77 goals in a total of 193 appearances.

Ola can play up front as a striker or out on the wing, and would therefore seem to be well fitted to play in Newcastle’s 4-3-3 formation.

What do you think?

Ed, there are far bigger stories out there like the NUST being barred by Ashley, the mythical transfer targets can wait for a while

Ha! People have the nerve to question our ambition!
We’ve tracked this for 2 years and it will save us a staggering 2-3 mil! And then he’ll be ours, our lean mean p*ss poor inconsistent goal scoring machine!

Toivenen is a transfer target the same way that Barnetta and Erding are transfer targets. Next up “Should Newcastle United sign Demba Ba/Andy Carroll/(Insert former striker here)”

I really cannot believe that even he has stooped to the level of banning everyone with a dissenting opinion. What happens if the stadium united against him again? Does he ban the fans from the ground? He’s losing control and he is responding in the maverick reactionary way that he has always done. Anyone who thinks he is a cool calculating mastermind is wrong.

    BandB

I’ve noticed his growing list of gripes, but it’s a token gesture to seem like a ‘man of the people’ he has an agenda and is losing credibility on account of that agenda so he is simply trying to recoup lost ground.

As for Ed, bland articles do make for a more diverse range of debate in the comments section. He has his style, I have mine, each to their own, although it does get frustrating when there is actual news happening and it is not being reported on.

    Ciaran,

I think of Ed as the Private Godfrey of the blog world, offering round fondant fancies as the world goes mad.
He’s not going to storm the beaches. But there is something reassuring in it, all the same.
Surely his is the kind old-fashioned, decent love of the club that we are fighting to protect?

The only way Ashley will sell is if season ticket sales drop to an extreme low and he can clearly see the fans taking a stand. Why would he sell when all he gets is a bit of abuse on a Saturday afternoon and all of the free advertising he needs.

Our Toon; love the enthusiasm, but the point ‘the only way’ to get him out is as NUFC-83 says, completely deserting the stadium.

Not allowed to pass comment on content quality? Give Mike Ashley a shout, maybe you could join his illustrious team.

    BandB

Don’t get me wrong, don’t doubt him as a fan whatsoever, and as tads suggests, perhaps it is a matter of getting more information on it before posting an article, but all too often he doesn’t report what is actually happening, which I find to be very frustrating.

Why would he ban the NUST for asking the questions fans want answering?

That unfortunately is the cost of being loyal, I have boycotted all things toon until he sells, missed my first toon game in 15 years when we played citeh (1st game of season), but some have paid for season tickets and it is harder to walk away when Cashley has got the money. Ppl paying on the day are the main issue!! season ticket holders can do the right thing and not spend a penny in the ground or on merchandise…..this will never happen though!! We deserve what we get unfortunately but its a fact!!

Well, if he clicks the News Now button on his own blog, he’ll see it has already been well reported locally. I get the impression he reads the Chronicle, so he shouldn’t struggle.

Our Toon i am mainly referring to next season when the chance to renew comes around.

I dont think anyone who has a season ticket should stay away this season as it only impacts on the team. At least not renewing would clearly impact on the club financially and would hopefully force his hand to sell up.

Ed – I very rarely comment, just read the stories and keep up to date with the comments.

I will no longer even do that, as this website gets worse and worse by the day. Like many people have said on the comments, there is a lot more going on at the club rather discussing some 2nd rate player who is unsettled. I have not seen and might be wrong but not one criticism/opinion has come from you regarding the club. Clearly this website is just a money making exercise for you. Good luck to the number of readers who continue to comment!

Ruddy’s blog isn’t taking off because instead of having an input and then suggesting for people to look at his own article about it; he comes on here, knocks Ed’s numerous articles for not writing about his chosen daily topic.

I honestly think he’s the sort of guy who would ask for a megaphone for Christmas just to be the loudest (then in his mind the only correct) person in the pub. Thinks he does everyone a favour but he’s just ruining it for us all.

What amazes me is that the reports on the march only received regional coverage, but as soon as Ashley ban’s them the story goes nation wide. Talk about bringing about your own downfall. Poor old Wendy Taylor really has her work cut out for herself.

Anyone else think that the next march will attracted a lot more than the 300 or so that attended the first one???

I’ve been saying since April mate, problem is not many listen. You get the whole howay man support the team!! Well the team would better served by having no support, I said a few postings ago that we are to blame for what is happening, we still pay money to watch the dross that gets served up to us every week, Ashley will continue taking liberties because he knows that LOYAL fans will continue paying (LOYAL = ADDICTS) for selfish reasons they pay money to watch and take the rubbish from Ashley n Co. They complain and the following week they end up back at the ground, apparently supporting the team!!

You’re misinformed. NUST had nothing to do with the organisation of the march whatsoever. All they did was give the march its backing as an organisation. If that is enough to remove their ‘permanent’ seat on the Fan’s Forum then I would call that an overreaction by the club wouldn’t you?

I really question people’s self-control if they can’t resist going to a single match – very strange admittance, that I hope doesn’t come into play in other aspects of their lives. What do they think they’re going to miss out on, exactly? If people really cared, they wouldn’t attend matches until MA is gone, those that don’t, well, despite your moaning, I really question the fidelity of your statements and feel you just like to have something to grumble about.

Must admit i was wrong to be apathetic about the march. Brilliantly as a direct result 3 local papers and a fan group have been banned indefinitely from the club as ashley sets a precedent for the future. Its really shown ashleys true colours to the worlds media. We can’t predict what exactly the final outcome will be but the cogs towards change have been set in motion. Definitely feels like thinks are finally coming to a head.

As much as this is bad press for Ashley, I think there is a lot of purposeful intent within these bans, yes he isn’t happy but just as things start to go quiet Ashley will do something to bring us back into the press!! At this point he is getting National Coverage which means Sports Direct is getting National Coverage. He might be getting bad press over this but every mention of him is followed by SD owner. No such thing as bad press, especially when it’s not your brand (SD) being tarnished…..just a thought

Miss 90 minutes of football to send a very loud and very clear message to Ashley.

The national press, TV, Radio would have a field day with an empty SJP in protest to Ashley and it’s about the only way we are going to get shot of him
